Why am I not wealthy? Never have I felt more self-pitious than when I experienced this scent…then learned the price.
I have my health, I have a wonderful career, my family is loving, and I can feed myself. My blessings abound. And yet, after experiencing The Little Black Dress, I feel deprived and craven.
I wish I had never let the elixir touch my skin. I wish my nose never knew this composition. I wish I had a time machine to go back to my life before I tried La PRN.
I was gifted with a single sample drop, which I rubbed into my wrists and inside my forearms. I walked away in a trance. Over the next 8 hours I wrote every subtle change in my journal. First ripe forest fruits then vanilla then almond and tonka bean. But the best quality of each.
For three days, I meditated on the smell. I did not shower. My body chemistry married with La PRN harmoniously.
For nearly one month afterwards, I did not wear any fragrance at all. Nothing. I researched La PRN. I did a lot of math to see how I could possibly afford this. 1 drop every three days for the rest of my life. Maybe if I cut back on food, stopped using gasoline and electricity, sold my car, walked everywhere, got a second job, sold a kidney maybe then I could afford this. I would be the best smelling woman who ever lived under the bridge. It took me a long time to realize that just like Lamborghinis and the Hope Diamond, La PRN is NOT meant for me.
I can appreciate fine craftsmanship and learn to accept that my station in life does not allow me to own every wonderful creation invented.
Now I’ve recovered. La Petite Robe Noire amazes me. It nearly ensnared my mind and stole my logic. In time I’m sure I’ll learn to be grateful that I experienced it.

The photograph here is not doing justice to how gorgeous and massive this bottle actually is. I went by my most favourite Guerlain counter in Hong Kong in the past Sunday and saw the bottle (25/40) being displayed there. The bottle was actually not in proportion liked L’Heure Bleue or Mitsouko in the open heart bottle but more resembling a square column of thick jet black crystal. The bottle looked much larger than any 250ml bottle that I had ever seen and could easily weight a few pound by its appearance. The remarkable embroidery work on the detachable ribbon collar was much more three dimensional and vividly coloured than shown in the photograph here as it was all done with bullion thread of fine metal spirals on felt. It was not difficult for me to imagine the time and craftsmanship required to finish one of those embroidery art collar. 12.000€ is really a lot of money for a bottle of fragrance; however, if we look at it as a rare piece of art by one of the best artists, it might not be that bad of an investment after all.

The black version of the Guerlain bottle looks like Darth Vader to me.

The bottle is beautiful, but I don’t think there’s a fragrance out there that’s “down payment on a house” beautiful just because it’s in a nicer bottle. That’s a little obscene.
