Description

Original Vetiver is Creed‘s modern take on the classic Vetiver fragrance. Vetiver fragrances traditionally derive their scent from the root of the plant. Original Vetiver infuses vetiver leaves into the blend for a fresh and original effect.

This unisex fragrance pairs vetiver with Mediterranean citrus and spice, for a warm, sensual and sophisticated aroma.

The top notes consist of ginger, mandarin and bergamot. Middle notes incorporate vetiver from Haiti, Mysore sandalwood and Florentine Iris. The base notes include musk and ambergris. Original Vetiver was launched in 2004. Original Vetiver was created by Olivier Creed Sixth Generation and Erwin Creed Seventh Generation.

I do not know, but I do not understand how they call a vetiver fragrance and that “no” smells anywhere to the woody and beautiful essence, in short, that the manufacturers explain to me because it does not enter my head, that they put another title because it fits well.
That said, this Vetiver ?? from Creed, begins with a nice entrance of spicy citrus with a powdery and floral background due to the iris, and also flies and feels very good, the Iso E and a little santalol in the background, combined with a soft and clean musk, with a point of ambergris that takes us by the hand to an aroma that is classic, relaxed and wearable, with that touch of Creed so measured. It does not yield much either.
Of course, if the fragrance was cheap, I would not criticize it, but this aroma does not leave anything of the ordinary and the high prices that the firm handles, because no, no, no, and a thousand times no.

Ok, if it gets compliments? No ! Because you’ll smell fresh out of shower and clean! They will think you smell nice, clean like traditional white soap! 200euro for 100 ml to smell like soap? I respect if you do but I have better idea and alternatives ! Mugler Cologne 60 euro for 300 ml … you want even cheaper alternatives? Ok Ferrari bright neroli 100 ml for 15 euro ! Even better than original Vetiver because Creed original Vetiver is linear soapy but Ferrari bright neroli gets more floral after 30 minuets which I like it so much…

Sampled this today and it doesn’t hold a candle to Guerlain’s Vetiver.

Instead of rubbing LUX soap on your cloth, use this perfume. Dislike for me.

The most soapy clean fragrance in my collection. Very well made as all Creeds are, but probably the most safe, boring one to my nose.
    Why you would love:
Extremely clean, safe, pleasant, refined, classy, non offensive
    Why you would not love:
Boring, not sexy or edgy at all, safe, linear, and only has moderate performance.

The opening blast did not contain much of the subterranean part of vetiver but I enjoyed the fresh lawn, real grass, smell with some slightly sour musky notes hovering somewhere at the back.

    Misleading Name
Leave it to Creed to botch what a vetiver fragrance should be. This can’t even BE counted as a vetiver scent. Original? Maybe in the sense that as a “vetiver” scent this has none. Rather a fresh and clean and soapy smell, like you just completed taking a shower. No, it’s not a bad fragrance. Just a completely misleading name.

I like it a lot (Jim Carrey voice). Nice, manly, gentleman’s frag. Smells like what my barber put on my neck after a cut many years ago. Wish I could find that, I’m sure it was cheaper. Anyway I’ll agree with a poster below (somewhere) who said Tom Ford Grey Vetiver is more interesting. This is still great though…

This opens with the scent of limes and grass, then dries down to a faint, powdery sandalwood. Nothing wrong with that, and if price was no object, it would be a pleasant addition to my collection, but alas…

It smells like old school white soaps! If the price even was 10 bucks I would never buy it…really and honestly if some body give it to me as a gift I would never use it! Maybe it was good at 250 years ago when creed factory started working but not for now days

I LOVE a vetiver smell that can be work both both sexes. I blind bought Guerlain vetiver and it was a horrible mistake. I did not smell citrus at all and it immediately went to aftershave for old people. It was awful.
I had been planning to buy the Creed OV because I LOVE the Mugler Cologne so much but after smelling that awful Guerlain, I am having second thoughts.

  14. :

I find this rather simple, clean, but there are more elegant fragrances like this for far less money. The quality ,to my nose, simpy is not here.
I recently came across Phlur Greylocke and olmsted and vaux. Both of these have a different approach to clean sharp vetitiver and smell better for half of the price of this creed.
Then you have Guerlain Vetiver and TF Grey vetiver to consider.
Then if you are a monster like me, you would prefer a darker vetiver like Encre Noire a l’extreme or a fragrance in the family of terre d’hermes like hermes tres fraiche or Kaleidoscope by daniel josier.

One of the most under appreciated fragrances on the planet!
I know, it smells just like Mugler Cologne, blah blah… Yes, they do share something identical. Its a green soapy scent that is at the core of both fragrances, but aside from that they wear very differently on the skin and OV has a clean spicy-woodiness that I can’t get enough of.
At the top we get a really sharp and peppery citrus that is clean and green. As it develops, we get a creaminess and this is where it really smells like a bar of soap. As it continues to dry down on the skin I get a nice clean, woody, peppery green scent that has a vetiver vibe although the vetiver isn’t too strong or noticable. When it projects off my skin I get a warm, spicy freshness that comes off very natural and put together.
The performance is great for a fresh scent, but not great for the price. It never projects too far, but it projects about a foot for about 3-4 hours then becomes a skin scent. I may get a whiff every now and then up to 7 hours later. Compliment factor is not huge, but I have had a handful of people say I smell nice.
This is incredibly versatile and can be worn any season or occasion, but is best suited for work or casual daytime wear in the summer. Never a bad time to smell clean!
9/10. Its not perfect but its damn near close.

The opening is almost identical to Mugler cologne. More than 90%
Then they separate. Mugler becomes more floral and musky while creed becomes woody, salty with clear vetiver base. Regardless of the huge price difference, they are very close with two exceptions:
1- Creed has deeper and more complex composition. Mugler has no vetiver at all. Not listed and I dont detect it.
2- Creed has much stronger longevity (7 hrs on skin and full day on clothes) with better and longer projection and it becomes more sophisticated as time goes which is usually the case for vetiver scents.
But as far as quality concerns, no much difference between the two.

Really really great I never wear it because it’s so f***ing good, I am frightened of the things it whispers and growls and scoffs at me in multiple different voices, usually menacing with gruesome tarp zip sting(s) zits

I purchased the Creed Vetiver without testing. I have owned serveral Creed fragrances over the years. At first when I initially sprayed on my skin it smell like strong fresh cut grass. After 15 to 30 mins the scent become more pleasant and very clean. I usually spray two to four times….it doesn’t hold very long on me. I use on my skin not my clothing. I only wear the summer.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about this fragrance? It’s spectacular and the greatest from the Creed lineup other than Virgin Island Water, in my opinion. It smells like a lush green meadow with hints of vetiver and a fresh green ginger accord and also interestingly, neroli. My grandmother says it reminds her of the naranj fruit or ‘sweet lime’, which is a hybrid between citron and orange. It smells like Mugler Cologne but is far deeper and richer than it, but also way more expensive. This is one of the greatest fragrances ever made and you will love it if you love green fragrances. I hope to own a bottle of this one day. In the meantime Mugler Cologne will suffice. Longevity and sillage are both fantastic as well.

My, oh my — this fragrance is awesome! When I first smelled it (at the Holt Renfrew store in Montreal) I knew I needed it in my collection.
What’s not to like? It is fresh, clean, yet not boring. I really love the ginger note in it.
It is now my signature scent — I wanna smell clean all the time! I don’t see a situation where that fragrance would feel inadequate.
I know own 3 Creed fragrances (used to own Aventus as well) — Man this niche brand makes top quality perfumes! You can really smell the quality in their fragrances.

I love it very much! great bergamot scent nicely blended with vetiver. only problem I have is lack of longevity and projection in Creed fragrances, I mean most of them 🙁

  22. :

    5 out of 5

How delicious… and yet what a disappointment. Picked up a fresh sample from Selfridges – so no fake… and yet… where’s it gone!?
It opens with a blast of Bergamot, it settles to a luscious vetiver, and then it disappears! Poor sillage and no longevity at all, within fifteen minutes it was a skin scent, in an hour it had vanished. Tested on a scarf it fared even worse, 30 minutes and it was non-existent. I happened to have an atomiser of the great cheapo Cuba Paris Gold to hand and tried equal doses of each on opposite wrists. Hours later the Cuba was still pumping it out great guns and the Creed was simply non-existent. I don’t care how nice it is – and it is a lovely lovely spring/summer scent – the price tag is ludicrous with appalling performance like this.

I just dont understand how lots of people here think this smells like Mugler? Its not even close. OV is much deeper. This out classes mugler cologne 10 fold. Shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence. One of my favorites in the hot and humid SW florida weather. 9/10 easily

  25. :

It smells like a slightly sweetened and classed-up bar of Irish Spring soap. Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver is a more interesting fragrance.

  26. :

I’ve never served on a submarine, but I agree with C-Sauce: OV really smells like some armed forces standard issue hygiene product, no matter navy or army. It’s not original, it’s not even pleasant, it just… smells to indicate that it was applied. I’ll definitely pass this one. Penalty points to Creed!

  27. :

    4 out of 5

I did not like this one. Too soapy in my opinion. If you are looking for a great vetiver frag that won’t burn a hole in your pocket, look no further than Tom Ford. The EDP or EDT will do you just fine. Tom’s is very clean, fresh, and in my opinion, just an overall better scent. While both scents are entirely different, OV just lacks that umph! Grey Vetiver by Tom Ford will grab your attention over this one. I did a review of this about a year and a bit ago; it smells like a citronella candle. Yuck!
    Sorry Creed.

  28. :

    4 out of 5

Green leafy – salty – earthy
    Color impression: marine green
You don’t have prominent touch of vetiver in Original Vetiver to call it Original Vetiver. Though the title is a huge oxymoron, OV’s not a bad perfume. It’s popular and functional which fits sport to formal. And also a good pick for humid weather. It has also strong tenacity and projection. Original Vetiver is highly soapy citrus woody fragrance which woody side is anonymous and its citrus side is hesperidic, sour and marine. In OV we have also a sneaky rendition of iris and musk to emphasize on powdery base. A strongly-recommended replacement for such perfume with much lower price is Thierry Mugler’s forgotten fabulous, Mugler Cologne.
    ★★★

This aftershave is standard issue aboard nuclear submarines, and all personnel are required to apply it in the morning before leaving their cabin.
This is the most boring and uninspired Creed. To me it smells like the beginning of a perfume rather than the completed work. In this way it resembles pseudo-fragrances such as Molecule 03 (straight vetiver) and the like. The name is only half true: there is nothing original here, but there is vetiver. Couple that with a Brut-green bottle that belongs on your shower ledge and you have a masterful rendition of an ordinary men’s hygiene product.
    Scent: 5/10 (not bad, but . . . Bore-RING!)
    Originality: 0/10
    Longevity: 4 hours
    Sillage: arm’s length

  30. :

    5 out of 5

Opens up very green, fresh and citrusy. The vetiver is clean and herbal, not the dirty, woody one that you find in Encre Noire for example.
It dries down into a refined soapy scent but I would not pay Creed price for this one. Great deal of smiliarities to Mugler Cologne.
    Feeling: fresh, grassy
    Performance is medium.

  31. :

    3 out of 5

Got some of this juice and I’ve only worn it once, but during the dry down it reminds me SO MUCH of Voyage d’Hermes. It has that soapy, clean, fresh scent to it. I don’t see anyone mentioning Voyage d’Hermes as a scent that is similar to this. Am I going crazy or is my nose on point? I haven’t worn Voyage d’Hermes in quite a bit of time but from my memory it smells quite close.
As I keep on sniffing it “Voyage d’Hermes” keeps being imprinted into my brain.

  32. :

    3 out of 5

I like the starting notes of Original vetiver, a bit bold and kind of right on your face. I agree with Aiona it has lemongrass fragrance and lemongrass remind me of summer.
The start notes won’t last longer and then you will simply smell vetiver.
Performance is just okay. In an hour and two it just become skin fragrance. This is more like a fresh out of shower fragrance.
    Smell : 6/10
    Longevity: 5/10
    Sillage /projection: 5/10
    Overall rating: 6/10
Important note: I just recently bought this and used 4 times in fall. In my opinion this is purely spring day and hot summer fragrance and it will perform better when there will be heat. So keep this fact in mind when see my rating.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

I love vetiver fragrances, from the clean and green to the dark and dirties, and everything in between. Original Vetiver is, by far, my favorite fresh vetiver perfume that I find wonderfully refreshing, clean, yet a subtly sophisticated scent that’s wrapped in that Creed ambergris DNA. Sure, the clean soapiness of this fragrance reminds me of Mugler Cologne (I have both) but Original is richer, more refined, and is less linear in that it changes somewhat during the dry-down.
While you may not receive (m)any unsolicited compliments while wearing this one, you will smell fantastic and offend absolutely no one. People will just assume you have the best smelling skin, hair and pheromones…and will linger longer while in your presence.
I also love Mugler Cologne (great office and casual scent) but, to me, Original Vetiver is just a bit more elegant and can be used as an evening fragrance as well. Projection and longevity are very good on my skin in that it lasts a solid 6-7 hours and projects moderately. Overall, I find Original Vetiver to be a leader when it comes to fresh Vetiver fragrances…however, it’s pricey and I find Mugler Cologne to be a highly suitable alternative for those not wishing to pay $$$ for a fresh fragrance.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

Both women and men seem to want to touch me a lot when I wear this… and I am not sure I’m enjoying that.
In all seriousness, this is one of my favorites, absolutely easy, fresh, great for work, not too strongly projecting, but with a nice discreet sillage, which isn’t offensive at all. Works very well on my skin, lasts maybe 6-7 hours, and even when I think it’s gone, it will creep back up and surprise me. Doesn’t really mean anything I suppose, but it is a sign of a beautifully crafted product, well worth having. It is a bit soapy vetiver, less green and earthy, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I love it!

  35. :

    3 out of 5

Original Vetiver is barely anything at the level of muglier cologne
While not my favorite Creed even and certainly has room for improvement the sparkling, natural and fresh citruses totally embarrasses it’s designer brethen, you have sparkling lemony bitter orange, mixed with some sweeter orange and dash of fresh cut grass at the opening that is both invigorating and refreshing.
The Muglier on other hand is harsh, screechy and just an ultrabrite-synthetic ‘layman pleaser’ of a scent that only justifies the Creed’s far higher price.
On drydown, while the Muglier gives up the ghost with a faint vague-citrusy grass and some woody musk Creed gives you ambery-florals and a nice clean classic sandalwood
The difference is huge in other words but still, a very moderate if hugely versatile Upscale scent by Creed
    Overall rating: 7/10

This ties aventus as my second most favorite creed. Although I would choose aventus for more special occasions, OV is definitely my morning go to everyday grab. Living in Texas comes with mostly hot days throughout the year, so having a colognes that smells like a clean, masculine, inoffensive bar of soap definitely comes in handy.

  37. :

What must old man Creed have felt when he first smelled Mugler Cologne? Jealousy, rage, delight? Probably all three. Exactly how long did it take to transition this first realization to that of deciding to make a full on clone and call it “Original” Vetiver?
Though it does not smell like vetiver it does smell 99% like Mugler Cologne. In fact, neither smell like vetiver yet both have a neroli underpinning, both last about two hours, both become a skin scent that lasts all day. It takes brass balls to rip someone off so entirely and sell the result for 10 times the price. My hat is off to you Sir Creed, may all the monies belong to you.

I love the soapiness in this fragrance, certainly a unique vetiver. One of the best vetiver based fragrances I ever smelled, alongside with the classic Guerlain Vetiver and Vetiver Extraordinaire by Frederic Malle. Creed definitely nailed the ”grassiness” with this one for sure, it is a modern wearable vetiver that everyone can enjoy and it works perfectly in hot countries. The only negative is the longevity. This scent would have been a masterpiece if it was lasting longer.

“Your English is almost as bad as your review. That’s one of the worst reviews I’ve ever read here on Fragrantica and there are some really bad ones.”
That’s just like, your subjective opinion, man. You’re comparing two things that’s not technically sound to do so. You’re maybe qualified to assess someone’s language skills or reviews written on Fragrantica, we wouldn’t know that for sure though. They were just ‘bad’ or ‘worst’, it’s good to know that your fragrance reviews are written by D-Bo-Lamo, it really matters to know a person when we read any reviews on the internet.
This is the stupidity that plague this world, ain’t nothing wrong with trying to better ourselves by applying ourselves. Do good, help people out if you’re that good, and lastly this goes for everyone, “Give the world the best you have anyway!”
And by the by, you just can’t top the subjective point of views, the truth probably is that our uniqueness makes sense(s) of this irrational world, and by that logic, we shall embrace the so-called bad reviews on equal grounds.
Egocentric and controlling with some arrogance, these are the words that describes you and your comment, D-Bo. Epistemologically speaking, your presence on this site will falter if you keep this up. Critique better next time.
Overall, I have to say, freedom is ambiguous. The scent of this Creed OV fits right in to that pocket of space on this spaceship earth, this is my review, thanks for reading.

Soapy, fresh, vetiver. This frag reminds me of using Irish spring soap when I was growing up in the 90s.
This is an excellent work scent and a fantastic addition to any man’s collection. A decent candidate to be layered as well.
I will always have a bottle of creed’s og vet on hand.

Clean is the best way to describe this scent. A superb cleanliness smell, like soap suds and warm water. Invigorating but in a simple way. It doesn’t scream or get loud. It doesn’t sit to close to the skin where it’s too quiet either. It’s right in the zone where it announces that a squeaky clean person is in the room. It’s hard for anyone around you to hate this scent, unless they just hate things that smell clean. Good for spring and summer. Fresh and green vibe to it, kinda on the warm side rather than the aquatic side or the bright sharp citrus side. It’s like a calm, beautifully clean and delicate smell that sits on a organic earthy base.

This is simply WONDERFUL! So underrated! Why?! A perfect 10/10 in my opinion, like Aventus.

  47. :

OV is the perfect understated, clean, natural-smelling daytime fragrance for when you want to to smell compellingly good without risking offense to anyone around you. Don’t be fooled by olfactory fatigue with OV. I have received compliments as late as 8 hours after spraying. I wear it spring/summer and use 4-5 sprays. It’s the perfect blend of fresh ginger/citrus sparkle and elegant musk/ambergris.
While talking about Creeds, I enjoy what I would characterize as the English restraint in many their fragrances. Two notable exceptions to this style would be projection beasts like Aventus and Original Santal, and where 1-2 good sprays are plenty for getting noticed.
Also, regarding the name, it would seem to me that ‘original’ here implies a new or different take, so I wouldn’t fault Creed for not making a standard smoky Vetiver fragrance with OV.

Creed’s Original Vetiver is the the olfactory equivalent of your father telling you how to dress for work, or success. This is by far not a game changing scent, but it represents what a man who cares about his appearance in any line of work should smell like. This fragrance is a soapy masculine done right. To start off, there is a nice punch of green and citrus to set the mood, and a zingy ginger that almost wakes you up (ideal for mornings). As OV progresses we get a sweet iris and vetiver tango, the earthiness of the vetiver is rounded out by the sandalwood, which gives this scent a hint of creaminess as well. As OV progresses we are left with a very green freshness that clings to you for a good 5-6 hours (at least on me). I use OV as a work scent from spring until early summer and its solid. It’s a nice, refreshing scent, that brings the wonderment of the outdoors on beautiful spring days to you, when you are tied down at your place of work. Whether it’s coveralls, a lab coat, or a dress shirt and tie; OV will remind you that there will be a cool breeze and the smell of fresh cut lawn to greet you on your weekend.

I’m a fan of vetiver fragrances and own several. I sampled this on my skin in-store. The initial notes are light citrussy, a mix of lime and lemon with the afterhit of vetiver, albeit relatively subdued and lacking the body of say Encre Noir.
Like other Creed scents, there’s a darker, dirty, mouldy finish which may appeal to you but it doesn’t work for me. As it dries down, there is a mandarin orange/tangerine note fighting the mouldy note that doesn’t blend into something better than their component parts. I always feel that the best compositions don’t easily reveal their components.
This is a lightish fragrance and in my view, a more successful alternative would be Malizia Uomo Vetyver which is a more attractive blend of citrus and vetiver. Plus it’s a fraction of the price.

This stuff is pretty good. But if you like the vetiver smell, get the Thierry Mugler instead. It’s much cheaper. I think all the Creed line is way overpriced.

Creed Vetiver is a beautiful fragrance that smells like heaven. It is a Woody and Citrus perfume and I can smell fresh spicy scent too. The main scent of this magnificent perfume is Vetiver. I can also smell Bergamot. Longevity is great and it has a good projection. This perfume is a good choice for Summer and Spring. I like to wear it for daily activities.

I have it on good confidence from our local perfume authority that this fragrance is being dropped altogether by Creed as of 2017. Not surprising, since there are so many affordable vetiver alternatives out there that are equally (if not more) splendid.
For those of you who love/need it, better stock up now…

I generally like Creed fragrances and vetiver is my favorite note so this one should be a no brainer for me. After reading so many of the comparisons to Mugler Cologne I guess I was hoping for something similar but obviously superior – like Original Santal and Individuel or MI and Unforgivable. Instead, this time I find the differences so incredibly small that I could never justify the price difference. I actually prefer the ever so slightly more floral Mugler to the marginally soapier Creed. Longevity of Original Vetiver is OK – I do get hints of vetiver in the drydown but otherwise it stays right in the soapy green territory that Cologne already occupied so well. Really disappointed in this one.

Fresh, green and grassy in the beginning. After the first hour, I am starting to detect some vetiver, but in small proportions; the fresh bergamot and mandarin are stronger with a sprinkle of iris. The base is mostly white musk with synthetic ambergris and, the main word to describe it is “soapy”. I find the whole fragrance overrated and at medium designer quality level. There is something that puts me off from the start which comes and goes at times.

This is Creed’s version of Neroli Portofino. It is primarilly a fresh fragrance without much vetiver. I think it was a smart marketing stratagy to call it “vetiver”, makes it sound more substancial.
I am enjoying it, it has fresh, clean sparkly notes, as many Creeds do. It smells like a great soap, and gives me a clean fresh feeling, and is different than most fresh fragrances. Projection is softly moderate, longevity is good.
It has some nice, fresh green grassy notes, that make the color of the juice very appropriate.
I got my sample, and I am ordering T Mugler cologne.
I remember trying TM cologne in the cold weather, and I also thought it smelled to much like soap.
In the heat of Summer I am now thinking Creed OV, or TM cologne would be a nice after shower cologne, to smell clean and refreshed.
I remember TM cologne was smelling like a quality fragrance, and I dont see this as being much better.
I have Green Irish Tweed and I think its miles ahead of Cool Water, but not that kind of difference here.
OK, with Creed OV its mostly like TM in the opening, then you get more vetiver in the mid with Creed.
If your not familiar with this one or Thierry Mugler; Creed Vetiver is not like most other vetivers I have tried,
It is more of a Summer time, fresh, citrusy, fruity fragrance, that is soapy and not like other fresh fragrances.
So if your looking for that great Summertime fresh, cologne type fragrance, this could be the one.
A fragrance that is similar, that has more vetiver, green grassy note, and is very fresh with lime, yet more year round versatile, and is my biggest compliment getter is, Guerlain L’Homme L’Eau Boisee.
I am going to look for a good deal on a bottle of TM Cologne and if I end up enjoying it a lot, I may end up getting the Creed, because it is better after all…
I would like to use this all the time as a Summer signature scent, but I’m not that rich. I have expensive fragrances, but I use them sparingly.

I wore this today for the whole day, in the summer, DO NOT DO THAT. I do not understand how people rated to wear this in the Spring or Summer.
It’s a very mature, strong fragrance. I did get compliments (from older people) but the younger crowd wasn’t impressed.
It’s smells like a Barbershop type of smell, its not my personal favorite and I don’t think I will be wearing this again for myself ( I will give it to my father )
Of the Creed line, I’m more of the Green Irish Tweed Fan, and if you are as well, you most likely will not like this one, it’s literally the complete opposite.

It’s great but Mugler Cologne is available for a fraction of the outrageous price this sells for.
