This smells amazing. If I was a woman, this would be my signature. It’s optimistic, alluring, clean and sexy. Has a floral vibe without being floral, and popcorn with sandalwood gives it a gourmand vibe. Just delicious.

La fin du mond is beautiful and fascinating. In the same direction as dior homme and valentino, but this is lighter and higher quality. It is a cozy crowdpleaser. A bit sweet, but not cloying. The most fascinating is its texture. Its almost like air. Its like its hollow in a strange way. Its like you smell parfume, but dont have parfume on. Another reviewer said its overly feminin, but I think its very unisex.
According to etat libre d orange, this is suppose to smell like the end of the world. I get the image of me being a little child and visiting a tivoli with my mom. I hold her hand and can smell her leather purse with make up. Lots of coloured light is blinking, people having fun in the carrousels. Laughter. All happening in slow motion. My mom and I is in the line waiting to buy popcorn and cotton candy from a funky stall. Suddenly something happens.
The sky is turning darker and darker. People first wonder whats going on. The carrousels stops. The laughters stops. The lights goes off. The sound of panic. With a boom all existence is over. The last experience is an olfactive «poff» of popcorn, cotton candy and a leatherpurse with make up and the comforting feeling of holding my mom’s hand.

This is how I smelled it at first whiff: slight lipstick smell, buttery, and sweet. Looked at the ingredients and smelled again for the second time: powdery, sweet, buttery and some lipstick (gun powder) and gets “woody” when you get really close to your skin that teetered into “spicy” notes but contained itself as under current peppery bites like a tv in between stations all static-y and the volume just above zero. Interestingly, the ingredients act like they are one – not discordant and no breaks in between notes either. If you gift this to someone inexperienced or just not into perfumes, they will just say this perfume is floral.

I personally don’t think La Fin Du Monde is close to Amour Nocturne L’AP. Amour Nocturne’s caramel note is combined with very specific rubbery note – some say it is metallic note which is marked in official list as gunpowder. Here in La Fin Du Monde – the caramel note is very salty and that is why I think it is more close to Shay & Blue’s Salt Caramel. Shay & Blue’s creation is more loud, more sweet and more linear as the time passes…La Fin Du Monde has a more toned down salty caramel pop corn note, maybe iris makes it a little dusty. What I am saying is that they both have caramel note but a different type. Salty caramel pop corn in La Fin…and toffee caramel in Amour Nocturne.

I love the opening of this fragrance. It’s a big bang! An explosion of joy with gun shots. Super fun & spirited. Shame it does not last. It becomes very quickly something shy and mellow, sugary. Like a candy store that has sold all its candies. No tricks.
It does stay fairly long on clothes. I sprayed it on my t shirt in the evenig and it was lingering in the morning with many notes intact, but on the skin if’s just a bang and it’s gone. On my skin it goes to sugar within 30 minutes and I have to dig my nose into the skin to detect anything else besides sweet popcorn. Dissapears after 6 hours.
I wish this lasted longer, but I Really love it. It is a fun & unique scent. Suitable for day use all year around paired with some snickers and a pony tail.
I have tested this twice. Loved it both times. Sprayed generously.

I was just gifted a sample and thought gunpowder and kitchen spices might be something my boyfriend would like, so I had him give it a try.
I missed the opening, but what I smelled was a really elegant oriental with a pronounced floral note — although I didn’t recognize it as iris or freesia, maybe the headiness of freesia blended with iris and vetiver? It was heady and mingled with spicier notes. If I didn’t know better I’d say I was smelling a classic designer fragrance. I liked it though.

I was totally prepared to hate this one as I dislike 99% of this brand’s fragrances. But wow, I really love it! Unique, and in a category of its own! The closest label you could put on this is a spicy gourmand, but the gunpowder keeps it from being so. The gunpowder note is actually very approachable, not metallic or gross at all. It adds a smokey note without adding smoke (if that makes sense). I was pleasantly surprised! On me, this smells a bit like kettle corn at a carnival/fair with a tinge of something else underneath (carrot seed?). But the scent never gets too sweet or foody. It’s also intriguing is how light and positive La Fin Du Monde is! Not a doom and gloom apocalyptic smell, but rather embodies the REM lyrics “It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine”.
Update: L’Artisan Parfumeur’s Amour Nocturne is very similar! I recommend checking it out if you want something less spicy, mossier, and no popcorn.

I think this scent is a work of art. I’m not sure if I want to wear it… but I love it anyway. I was immediately blasted with the scent of something that I recognized but couldn’t figure out. Looked at the notes and realize it’s gunpowder, ohhhh yaaa now I remember what was so interesting and why I HAD to test this. The gunpowder is sweetened from the iris though. I usually am not crazy about iris in perfume. But the powdery scents in this combine to make a magical smelling sweet gunpowder (by our powers combined, heh). Really A+ scent, just wish it lasted a little longer. Still can’t decide if it’s something I would actually wear around, but I’ll just go ahead and put it on my want list for now!

Well, if this is what the worlds end will smell like, I don’t know what to think. “GO OUT WITH A BANG!” the sample says, but, I’m not sure if this is a _BANG_, but it is at least a little POOF.
I don’t get Armageddon vibes from this one, nothing melancholic or angsty at all (EVEN THOUGH there is iris in it, whaddya know.)
This could be renamed “Carnival”, and it would be more accurate in my mind. Popcorn, The Human Cannonball, and a heavily perfumed palmreader looking in to a herby teacup. If I were to be here when the world ends, I would be totally fine with that.

This is a soft nutty like aroma. The opening will mislead as after about an hour it dries down to a soft floral,slightly metallic with a pinch of sweetness. After the big vibrant popcorn opening is gone it is still likeable but not as enjoyable as it could have been. The gunpowder note is present throughout the majority of the scent but it’s so delicate that I would say that this is way more feminine than masculine. 5-6 hours of longevity with soft sillage after 60 – 90 minutes.

Opens very cotton candy-sweet with a metallic undertone. The metallic notes get stronger and the scent gets a bit acidic too. Then, I start to pick up a mix of spices and sweet floral notes. It reminds me of orange candy but really isn’t it. The cumin in the background makes it a bit sweaty. I still smell a bit of metallic notes underneath. From here, the scent tones down more and more into the drydown.
Sillage and longevity are moderate on me.
Like all scents from this house, it is a bit strange. Albeit interesting, it isn’t wearable for me. I’m not a fan of the metallic notes, and they play a pretty big role in this scent. Try this if you like a bit of excitement and strangeness and can handle metallics!

Lately my sniffing habit has left me feeling like a curmudgeon. It’s all starting to smell the same and wearing this one kind of brought it all together for me. It seems like there are a few chemicals that many of the new fragrances contain. The buttery note in this one has a chemical that is found often, mostly in sweet caramel containing frags. It’s not that this is a bad fragrance or even an unoriginal one. Quite the opposite. There’s just a sense that this one chemical is everywhere and I’m tired of smelling it.

This fragrance has a weird sweetness to it. I don’t think I like it for now, but maybe it may grow on me in time.? I got a sample to try because of the different strange notes it has. Popcorn and gunpowder are some of them. Whoever thought before that notes such as those would be put into perfume.? The other thing about this fragrance is that I don’t find it very wearable in public, because I think it’s more feminine smelling even though it only has 2 flower notes in it. I just can’t get myself to wearing this for now, even at home.

A wonderfully odd blend of savory, vegetal notes, pepper, powder, salty butter and metal. Despite the odd notes, it’s really quite easy to wear – not at all as offensive or strange as you might expect.
The carroty-iris builds in strength as time goes on, and becomes a little flat in doing so. The first hour or so however is a true joy to experience. Wacky, weird and wonderful.
Sillage is pretty woeful, remains a skin scent even when bathed in. Longevity is tricky to ascertain, the sillage is so soft that unless you’re actively inhaling your wrist you can’t be sure if it’s still there or not.
Still, a lovely, if fragile, offering from a house that continues to impress me at every turn.

La Fin Du Monde, both in title and scent conjure up the excitement of the cinema. Just imagine: the plush velvet chairs underneath you, the slightly metallic and plastic-y wind of the projector in the back, the large cone of toffee popcorn in your hand, and on the screen, the latest apocalyptic blockbuster. Canon’s are firing, Paris is on fire, you’re captivated yet safe in the confines of your seat. La Fin Du Monde brings all of these images to mind. As a scent, it is not worlds away from the likes of La Vie Est Belle, it’s toffee-sugary sweet, but this has a kick to it, the seedy notes and the gunpowder give it a bang, a pop, an explosive nature which makes the opening of the scent exciting as well as yummy. The iris, popcorn and seedy notes are very prominent throughout, making this a scent which would appeal perhaps more to women than men. Overall a delicious addition to the Etat Libre d’Orange collection. The only negative aspect of the fragrance is the lasting power. I get around 2-3 hours,

I’ve been testing this, and I like it more and more.
It smells exactly like the multiplex cinema in my hometown, and every time I put it on that thought makes me chuckle.
Air freshener and hygiene wipes, dust caught in the folding seat mechanisms, and floating in and around it all: popcorn.
Despite that description, it’s really quite inoffensive and easy to wear. You could happily wear it to see the latest end of the world blockbuster on a Saturday night, in fact. Which I may just do!

A lovely fragrantican sent me a sample of this in a swap. I never would have thought to try it otherwise but I’m so glad I did! Something about this is very pleasing to me, but I can’t pinpoint the note, I think this brand might use it a lot because I smelled it in Tilda Swinton Like This as well. There is something in it that is overwhelming, sweet but musky while kind of smelling like fresh vegetables. Whatever it is I really like it. I don’t know that I would wear this as a perfume but I really like the way it smells.

What a great concept for a fragrance, right? That’s what originally drew me to this scent. But if you’re looking for a very avant-garde fragrance experience, look elsewhere. In ELdO’s La Fin Du Monde, the apocalypse smells… well, downright polite.
The intriguing popcorn and gunpowder accords do actually exist in this fragrance, but they are MUCH softer and understated than you would probably expect from ELdO. La Fin Du Monde is so much more about soft, delicate florals than about the end of the world. Iris and freesia are the starring players in this composition, with a creative use of carrot seeds to play up the starchiness of iris. Popcorn, cumin, styrax, and gunpowder add a quality that can be described as hot, dusty, spicy, roasted, and ignited. This is mostly present in the first five minutes of this fragrance, as the drydown is almost entirely floral in nature.
This fragrance is clever, but not brilliant. It’s a little too subtle and passive for a fragrance based off of a concept as chaotic, captivating, and unnerving as the end of the world. La Fin du Monde smells fine, but gosh, wouldn’t you hope that the apocalypse would be a little bit more exciting?

This scent reminds me of a cinema. Not nessicerey the exact smell of the walls and furniture, but more the feeling of the whole experience. You know… Maybe some girls are wearing iris perfumes, maybe for a date some seats infront of you. In the air, you can hint the smell of popcorn. Behind you there is the metalic veird gunpowder smell from the projector. This scent is kind of a mix of the feelings of safety and comfort together with feelings of exitement and anticipation. Like how it feels in a cinema, There is some action, but only on the screen. You are a little bit exited, but you feel 100% safe beacuse you know it is just a movie. I would prefer a real life adventure over a movie adventure, But hey! sometimes you just want to enjoy a movie too.

First reaction: WOW! Very bright opening…like a bang! Carrot Seeds, Sesame, gunpowder, popcorn (that you can almost hear popping), the wet and aromatic iris, underpinned with the slightest hint of Freesia (I wished she came out stronger and competed with the Freesia).
Sadly though, the initial attractiveness, quickly fades away. Just like fireworks that you can spend a fortune these days, they just have a very short “life span”.
I guess we will all go out with a big bang then, only to be left with some faint spicy notes and that gunpowder, cold, bittersweet, metallic wafting through the ether….
Sad somehow. Was nice meeting you, Mother Earth. 🙁
P.S: Rather disappointing development and the scent is elusive and fades too fast. Instead invest into AMOUAGE “Fate” that has similar notes and is a true performer and a sillage monster.

Odd odd stuff yet again from Etat Libre d’Orange but quite lovely and very palatable indeed. The opening is a very sweet and complex explosion of notes, the iris and popcorn being prominent with a slightly metallic flint type gunpowder note…it really is there.
Recent release Valentino uomo is quite similar but creamier and nuttier maybe not quite as complex. I love La fin du monde it’s a tasty, sexy gourmand fragrance…sniff it out people it’s good!

“La Fin du Monde” has a nice background and an interesting list of notes, but its performance on skin is very similar to what you’d get from any mainstream fragrance.
When you think of Etat Libre d’Orange’s fragrances you think of a strange and tongue in cheek universe, but that’s not what you get with “La Fin du Monde”.
The initial blast is close to what you get from “Dior Homme” with a dusty íris accord, but without the lipstick vibe. After this stage, I’m left wondering where the popcorn could be hiding, because unfortunately I cannot feel it on my skin. On the other hand, there’s something that reminds me of gunpowder and “Desir de Rochas pour Homme” with its dry aspects.
Don’t expect a killer bomb like “Rien” or “Charogne” this time because “La Fin du Monde” is quite tame on skin.
My final impression is that “La Fin du Monde” is too nicely done, comfortable and safe for an Etat Libe d’Orange release.

Immediately reminded me of MOTHBALLS, and a basement, somehow. Cold hard and lonely feeling it evoked but I couldn’t place what the ‘cold hard’ smell was at all (gunpowder), and lots of muskiness. Then as it settled into my skin I got a decent dose of pepper and peppery floral (freesia) w/ a hint of a pleasant floral (iris), but still always that cold, almost metallic smell. Also it makes my nose itch, but I’m quite sensitive. The ‘gunpowder’ effect is a bit too realistic in that way, too peppery.
Interesting to be sure, NOT to be judged out of the bottle or at the opening!! Let it sit and different oddities continue to show themselves as it warms. I think it may actually be charming on a man.

I had mistaken this perfume for another, less offensive, ETLO instalment when I posted my last review. This actually smells much worse! The gunpowder is awful. It makes the foody ingredients smell distinctly cold and utlitarian, as if someone was making popcorn in a coal shed on a Primus stove.

They said this is an easy one. They said this is a more bombastic version of Dior Homme. They said this will almost pass unnoticed amongst the plethora of deliveries of this late 2013. They said a lot of things but, actually, La Fin Du Monde is a very funny and incredibly solid fragrance.
Yes, the link to Dior Homme is probably there but it’s only relegated to the fact they both focus on iris as the core accord (which is honestly not enough to consider them similar). Just like with many other ELDOs, the fragrance is pervaded by an incredible sense of humor and subtle twists. Here, what really fascinates me, it’s the almost holographic gunpowder accord which paired to the carrot-seed and the iris give birth to a funny accord entirely based on juxtapositions. It’s like bombing a bouquet of flowers with a massive dose of TNT and some spices.
There’s also powder but it doesn’t bring the fragrance towards affected territories. Instead, it enhances its pleasant oddness by emphasizing two polar opposites. Iris and gunpowder. On top of that, a smooth synth sandalwood / woody thing provides some extra body.
Downline: The fragrance is based around the safest and most conventional iris / carrot seed accord but carefully and masterfully deranged by a lot of funny and dangerous things that will keep your attention up for quite a while.
Probably not my favorite from the line but still extremely enjoyable and way more honest than most pretentious niche lines with their silly promises of faux luxury and exclusivity.
If the french revolution were done with Uzis instead of pitchforks, this is what Paris would have smelled like!

It was not the end of the world, but it still smelled good. Sorry, after this kind of advertising and naming the fragrance was bound to be a bit underwhelming. It is a competent perfume nevertheless, held together by iris and sandalwood and surprisingly conservative from a company that created juices like Jasmine et Cigarette. It has a sexy undertone and while it is feminine enough for my wear, I would love to smell this on a man. As for the sillage and longevity, it’ll take a few more tests.
