Description
Kristiansand is a new masculine fragrance that combines two different ambiences— the serene winter atmosphere of the Norwegian town Kristiansand and the urban lifestyle of New York. The perfume was designed by two Norwegians who met in New York. Britt Hovde Ross and actress Elisabth Steen wanted to create a new masculine fragrance, as there are so few out there that they really like. Perfumer Pierre Constantin Gueros from Drom Fragrances helped them develop the composition.
New York is embodied with sophisticated powdery notes, musk and amber, while Kristiansand—Britt’s hometown—is described with wood, spice and green flavors.
The composition opens with crisp aromas of plum and fig, exotic spices (black pepper and nutmeg) and green mandarine. Silver lavender and clary sage are in the heart, along with woody notes of cedar and vetiver, as well as a dash of cinnamon. The fragrance finishes with a warm base of amber, musk, tonka bean and oak moss.
It is available as 50 ml and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
Kristiansand was launched in 2010. The nose behind this fragrance is Pierre-Constantin Guéros.

Unfortunately, if you bought it to replace BY, I can assure you will be disappointed. To be crystal clear, it´s more sweety and powdery. A really good fragrance, anyway. I will stay with it in my collection. Great to use in a Spring or winter night in South America.

Kristiansand New York Review:
This fragrance opens up with a spicy and peppery green smell on my skin. The pepper lets up a bit revealing a little nutmeg with a hint of fruitiness from the fig note. After the opening, a nice masculine lavender note takes center stage. This lavender note then transitions into a soft musk and amber dry down.
This is a VERY powdery fragrance. If you don’t like powdery fragrances then definitely avoid this one. If you do like them, you have to try this fragrance out. It’s an absolutely beautiful and unique take on a masculine scent. If you’re looking for something that will make you stand out from the crowd, I would definitely recommend this one. My only problem with this fragrance is it occasionally comes across as a bit sour on my skin. Other than that, I really enjoy this one.
Some people compare this one to D&G’s BY. I have never tried that fragrance so I can’t compare. I can only tell you that, out of all the different scents I’ve smelled, there has been nothing that smelled quite like this.

Does anyone know where to get this fragrance? Mine is running low and I would like another as I love its similarities to By Man.

I decided to try Kristiansand New York ever since I had heard it was very similar to the discontinued masterpiece by Dolce & Gabbana “By Man”.. Yes, it is true Kristiansand New York is very similar to By Man but they do have their differences.. Kristiandsand opens up with green mandarin, pepper, nutmeg, plum, and fig.. The green mandarin is not very detectable but probably adds to the crisp opening.. The pepper is noticeable but it is not overpowering, it is there along with the nutmeg to add a lovely spicy-nutty vibe to the scent.. The fig and plum are detectable in the opening as well and lend a slight sweet fruity vibe.. As the top starts to move into the heart the scent becomes a bit more powdery.. Kristiansand New York is a very powdery scent but it is powdery done right! The powdery vibe almost smells like a baby powder but in a clean sweet sexy masculine way.. The heart contains silver lavender, clary sage, vetiver, cedar and cinnamon.. The lavender is detectable throughout the fragrance as it is one of the most prominent notes.. The wood notes are also detectable and lend some depth to the scent.. There is also a slight touch of cinnamon which lends some more spice to Kristiansand.. The base notes consist of amber, musk, tonka bean, and oak moss.. The musk is also a very prominent note in this fragrance, it is a very clean musk.. The amber lends a nice sexy sweet vibe to the scent, along with a touch of tonka.. I do not get much of the oak moss but it is there.. Kristiansand New York is a EDP, and it does perform very well.. You can tell that there is a nice concentration of oils in the fragrance.. Kristiansand New York comes in a beautiful bottle, and I must say that it has the best sprayer that I have ever come across among any fragrance.. I have grown to love Kristiansand New York for what it is, and not just its similarity to By Man.. However I do recommend this fragrance to all the fans of By Man.. It is a great fragrance which has similar notes and a similar vibe but do not expect a complete copy of By Man because that is not what this is.. Kristiansand New York definitely deserves a lot more attention than it is receiving! It is more of a cool weather type of scent although it can be versatile.. It can be worn casually or for special occasions, but I definitely recommend this one for dates..

This is a quality fragrance on its own but no way near By D&g. Ok may be for a brief moment, only if you haven’t smelt BY in a while. Now the fragrance itself does smell powdery, sweet and sweaty. I get a lot of lavender, cinnamon and some amber. I do not get any tonka. I’d rate it 4/5 on projection, 5/5 on longevity, 3/5 on uniqueness, and 5/5 on presentation but if somebody really wants to compare it to BY it 1/5 or less. Will try it again in fall/winter

Let me start by saying I have not smelled By, with that introduction on to this fragrance. I think this is nice. It is spicy, sweet, a bit woody and powdery. This sounds funny but the first thing that comes to mind with this is huggable. It smells like a daper guy. Like a mid-level executive, maybe single but not the playboy type. He is probably married with a couple of kids, dresses nice, speaks to everyone in the office and belts matches his shoes.
What I am saying is this is safe. I think it is great for church, work, visiting family, a good movie date but nothing beyond that. I don’t think you will ever turn heads, but as you walk by you will give off a pleasent aroma.
This isn’t something that evokes sensuality, playfulness or even fun. I wouldn’t wear this partying or even to a formal event. But it also doesn’t fit for backyard BBQ or your kids basketball game.
It is for a place where there is formality and courtesies where etiquette rules. Again I think boardrooms, executive meetings, a formal church gathering, and a formal family dinner.
Overall this lasts long, projects decently for quite a few hours and is it quite versatile from a season perspective. Again if you know how and when to use this, I think it is quite satisfying. You won’t “drop panties” (their term not mine) but you may get a tight hug from someone who is already feeling you.

So, the question everyone wants to know…does this smell like D&G By Man? To me, Kristiansand slightly resembles By, but it doesn’t have the intoxicating thick drydown that By has. I find it even muskier than By, but some of the spices come close. Is this a substitute? Absolutely NOT. This is about as close to By as Scott McClintock is…both have pieces of it, but neither comes close to matching the discontinued scent.
On its own, Kristiansand has some appealing points, and had I never smelled By, I might be attracted to this on its own merit. It is a very nice aromatic musk fragrance with some amber and tonka to sweeten up the spices. Very nice. I am tempted to call this By Light. No disrespect to the Kristiansand crew…in fact, since By is one of my favorite frags, that is a compliment.

I concur with Britt and Elisabeth in that there are not that many interesting men’s fragrances. Glad they decided to give it a try. For that, bravo!
I came across this scent from a sample which turned me off by the cover of a bare chested man. Did not bode well. To macho and…
Nice and crisp start with green notes and mandarin. The vetiver is subdued but there in the middle. The musk and amber give it a slightly sweet finsh.
Sillage is nice and the longebvity is above average.
After living with it I give it a thumbs up. Not a classic but a worthwile frag to add to one’s collection (priced right at about $65).

I’ve tried it on my hand one afternoon and it lasted through several handwash and a shower to the next day. So I would say it lasts a long time. Didn’t smell a lot of the green notes but the musk and the lavender was there. Very nice.

I’ve never smelled By, but I can’t really say that this is something worth going nuts over. It’s a woody-spicy-peppery fragrance with a powdery rosewood and nutmeg smell. I know I’ve smelled this before, I just can’t recall which exact fragrance. Decent longevity.

I read that this perfume is similar to BY – D&G (which is not producing now. So please, I need more informations. How many hours last on the skin? …
