Description
Joy by Dior comes out at the end of August 2018 as an ode to pleasures and to life. It is conceived as a scent of energy, liveliness and softness, of happiness and good mood.
It is a fragrance illuminated by the vibrant smile of flowers and citrus fruits, the smooth caress of woods and the serenity of musks; a fragrance with a thousand nuances and facets, yet crystal-clear.
Dior perfumer François Demachy said: “JOY by Dior expresses this remarkable feeling of joy by offering an olfactive interpretation of light. This perfume resembles certain pointillist paintings that are rich with a precise, yet not too obvious, technique. It is constructed with multiple nuances, a myriad of facets that lead to an expression that is clear and self-evident.”
The composition’s description by the brand: “Zested Bergamot and Mandarin explode in unison with flowers. Grasse Rose, in both Essence and Absolute form, as well as heady Jasmine, blend with these delectable fruits in a vibrant smile. Warm and creamy sandalwood embraces us in softness. An intimate signature, the clear and powdery whisper of musks creates a tender and sensual skin-on-skin effect.”
The bottle is of a simple shape, crystal and soft pink, jewel-like. The face of the advertising campaign is actress Jennifer Lawrence.
Dior Joy is available as a 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum with an accompanying scented body lotion.
The nose behind this fragrance is Francois Demachy.

I tried a sample yesterday..left it in my bag and could still smell it today. It is a nice fragrance..I can’t agree with the negatives. Each to their own. The creator of this perfume is one of the best and I trust it will be beautiful but different. Nothing like poison midnight, Addict or privee collection..a different offering. A skin scent but very beautiful.
Kayla_fromAD – :
I had no interest in this scent. Had nothing to do with the name, bottle, celebrity, or whatever. It was just not in my radar. Until last night, that is. My daughter came home from the mall and brought me a test paper asking me to guess the scent. It was a pleasant, soft, feminine smell. Very agreeable and office-safe. It wasn’t unique or a standout, but we both liked it. When I couldn’t guess the perfume, my daughter blurts out that it was Joy by Christian Dior. I told her she should have tested it on her skin so we can tell if it was FB worthy. She said, “I did!” and held out her arm for me to sniff. Well, there was NOTHING. Not even a faint smell. She said it was not even 1-2 hours since she sprayed it. In short, good scent (on paper, AFAIK) but terrible longevity.
P.S. I may still buy it. Maybe.
Maximax – :
Received a sample of this recently, was super excited to test it as I love Dior and more high-end fragrances at times. Its also been heavily marketed so wanted to see if it was worthy of the hype. It is a clean, fresh and feminine scent, that is almost a “nice shampoo” type of scent. Its a very basic female scent that I’ve smelt in other more cheaper fragrances – and while its nice and pleasant scent, it isn’t unique, it has poor longevity and no sillage. I expected more from Dior. I will happily finish up my sample but would never want or spend my own money on quite a basic fragrance.
rhumb – :
I’m no expert in florals and nor do I have vast experience with perfumes marketed towards women. However, upon first smelling this I thought it was very uninspiring and like many floral musk fragrances I’ve smelled before. However, as it settled down, more of the base was revealed and it’s a little more sophisticated than I’d first thought. Green, fresh citrus/floral opening which settles back to kinda generic white flowers and white musk you’ve smelled a million times before and crucially not only too feminine but too boring for me to wear. This is pretty much how it remains throughout until after a few hours I get a really soft almost caramelised, sweet base which I can only interpret as sandalwood. Also after several hours the white florals do actually resemble jasmine but only very subtly. For such a big popular fragrance like this, is it enough to win people over? I think the same can be for Joy, it will sell regardless, and to me at least is less innovative than Sauvage. It’s a perfectly nice gift for that special someone but nothing mindblowing. So I’ve given my opinion on Joy and critiqued it from a originality stand point but I don’t really understand the criticism on performance or quality. I’ve smelled cheaper versions of the floral musk that are awful and Joy lasted and projected on me, almost too much so.
Hardix – :
Pretty but boring generic pink. Nondescript floral musk. Easy to wear but completely forgettable.
D.G.MASTER – :
What a disappointment. The scent is so light, I can barely smell it. It’s a nice scent, but very boring and non-descript.
Also, this smells nothing like Allure or Dune on my skin. It’s just a light, musky floral. Very meh.
Leseqzlpjoy – :
All this time is was sampling i was thinking: ‘I know that smell, what’s that smell? Who wears this smell? I have this in my collection already’ but i couldn’t link it…
And indeed, it’s a copy of Chanel allure, but rather the allure sensuel version. It’s the signature of my mother in law…
Very confusing
valtornist77 – :
Have you ever read reviews of a fragrance you just sampled and wondered if your sense of smell is just very different from others’? That’s how I’m feeling right now, because when I sampled Joy, I didn’t get ANY citrus at all from it, and I didn’t think it smelled like Chanel Allure — which, to me, has a distinct lemon note. To me, Joy smells like it looks — soft, feminine and “pink.” I’m having a hard time identifying individual notes, but I’m pretty sure there is sandalwood and rose in here. It’s a gentle, safe, woodsy floral — reminds me of the scent of feminine hygiene products or scented tissues, not in a bad way, though. There is nothing sharp or “sparkling” in this fragrance — something about it makes me think of dusting powder, though it is NOT a “powdery” fragrance. I am probably not describing it very well. It does smell a *little bit* like Chanel Gabrielle to me, but without Gabrielle’s sunny/citrus notes. Joy whispers, it does not shout. I admit I kind of like Joy, but then I liked Gabrielle enough to buy a bottle, and many others found it bland or disappointing.

No matter how new one is to perfume, no one is exempt from the impact of marketing.
This doesn’t bother me – I enjoy marketing and bottles – but you cannot pretend that you are immune from being part of a target audience – everything has been chosen for you, the bottle, the color of the juice, the actress, the strength of the notes.
If Jean Patou Joy is not a part of your personal or family history, you can’t pretend to know the impact it might’ve had on someone.
Like this juice, that’s fine, but don’t patronize people who don’t like it.
Maxmms – :
One of the things I like best about not being a great perfume connaisseur is that I can only judge scents by my one simple nose.
I may know nothing (or close to nothing) about perfume history, complex molecular interactions (which I find fascinating, yet have no clue about)or the wonders of natural ingredients, but I know what I like.
This is a simple, pleasant, clean and very nice scent, and I liked it enough to buy a full bottle.
It’s safe, harmless, fun, gentle and crystal-clear.
I like the musk, the flowers, the slight citrusy notes. I love the drydown even though it’s really mild.
I don’t care about the name, the bottle, the launch, the colour. I just enjoy the fact it smells lovely on me and is a very easy and pleasant go-to scent.
Call me an ignorant. I know I am. Still, I like it.
Danilow – :
I hate the bottle, I think it looks too cheap and clunky for Dior.
I hate the ads, the photo-shopping and airbrushing totally wash out any of Jennifer Lawrence’s personality. She looks anything buy joyous. To be fair though, have you ever seen a perfume ad that wasn’t heavily airbrushed?
I hate the name, I don’t understand why they would reuse the name of a classic and ride it’s coattails, unless their aim was to provoke controversy and get everyone talking about their perfume. If that’s the case, then they’re geniuses. It totally worked.
I even hate myself for sounding pretentious and jumping on the band wagon and complaining about everything that everybody else is also complaining about.
BUT…
I can’t help but like the actual perfume! It’s a pretty, sweet, inoffensive floral. Sillage is weak, and so is longevity, so I shouldn’t like it all, but I really do. It’s simple and pretty. I feel pretty when I’m wearing it – for about 2 hours or so that is. After that it fades to a faint skin scent on me. With my body chemistry it’ lasts about the same as a body spray. If it was priced the same as a body spray I would buy 5 bottles and spray with abandon and love it while it lasts. I’d actually get some joy out of it that way. Unfortunately, it costs what a nice Dior perfume costs, but unlike most of the other Dior perfumes it’s not worth it in my opinion.
And yet… I still like it.
EDIT: I just realized why the bottle looks so cheap to me, it reminds me of the Avon Love bottle!
saynniina – :
I don’t care what the label says… This is a classy EAU DE COLOGNE (Don’t believe me try it for yourself and compare it to the strength of eau de colognes)
pakenas – :
I really like this one, even though it took me a long time before I had the courage to buy it, due to the negative reviews.
On me this is a very fresh citrucy and sweet floral scent, just lovely in every way. Not overly sweet or floral at all, as the citrus notes balance it and the outcome is fresh. Not overly citrucy either, as the sweet florals are there.
Chanel Allure EdT and EdP, especially the EdT, are on my all time favorites list, so I guess it’s not just a coinsidence that I like this lovely creation by Dior. I love the blend of citrusy and sweet notes.
SWAP:
I have just a small bottle of this so far (yep, wanted to try carefully at first), so if anyone of you have a sample or a bottle that you simply can’t stand and just wish to get rid of, please consider me! 🙂
I can also do a swap, of course.
I just wrote a review on La Perla in Rosa EdT and I have a full 30 ml boxed bottle of it available for a swap. It has received very positive reviews here, but it’s not for me, as my exceptionally warm skin brings out such notes of it, which I don’t like.
Please just send me a message. I’m in Europe/EU.

I just have to write this as a warning. This perfume gave me the worst, nightmarish headache… I don’t know what it is about it, maybe benzoin or cassis.
denzez – :
I never brag about a fragrance more than two times (and even so, I left reviews twice for just very few of them). But this is the third time I post my opinions for Dior Joy. It has been upgraded from a like to strong like, and now a love from me!
I wore Dior Joy the other day running on the beach with my husband. I normally don’t wear any fragrance when exercise indoor or outdoor. It was a beautiful sunny but breezy day (75 – 80 F degrees). The sun was bright and warm, and goldenly sweet like honey. Dior Joy surprised me once more. It was still citrusy fresh but less woody this time. It became a sporty scent on my skin which suited the situation perfectly. My husband kept a distance and ran a little behind me, so that he could sniff the gorgeously bright and energetic trail of this scent from me. He said that I smelled so delicious and sexy, and if it was our private beach, he would take me right there and then :)) The scent turned him on! It illuminated and sparkled on me. Later on, when we stopped for a water break, we could both smell a peachy sweet, fresh and delicate red rose as the final base/undertone on my skin. My husband insisted that I should pack this perfume for our trip to Florida in few weeks 🙂
If this is the new twist, representing Dior new style of MODERN perfumes, well, so far it has worked out tremendously well in my favor. I love Dior Joy and am now eagerly looking forward to its flankers 🙂
Don’t be shy, let go of the “past” and let Dior Joy today shine. I hope it brings you ladies joy and wonders like it does for me. Thank you Dior!
Клещь – :
I really like it, It is very safe but truly pretty, like a pink version of Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana.
On my skin the scent is sheer, gently musky and sparkling, like diffuse sunlight. the notes I detect most are citrus, musk a subtle white floral and a soft warm pink – I don’t know what note that could be. I think its more like contentment than joy.
Wamearguert – :
joy is pretty tame , is floral , fruity pleasant , is also very meh

opening fresher than allure but the rest are pretty much the same. As someone who love the original allure so much I would definitely go for Allure more than Joy for obvious reason because Allure is the original girls!
sanches112 – :
I don’t hate this scent. I’d NEVER buy it, probably give it away if gifted, but I don’t *totally* hate it. It’s just not worth the hype, like, at all. I agree with people who state it smeels cheap and shampooish. And it’s not even that fresh shampoo vibe.It smells exactly like the Garnier Argan Camellia hair care line. The bottle looks very cheap as well.
Overall, is not awful. But absolutely unparallelable to the classy scents Dior has reliesed through the years.
alllex – :
I tried it yesterday. I have always had Allure and loved it. Thats why I was very excited to test Joy. I liked it very much. It is a weaker and sweeter version of Allure. While Allure stays dry and mature, Joy is softer and sweeter. It is a beautiful skin scent. Smells devine. I think I could easily live with both: Allure and Joy if I could afford it. And I guess each one of those two will find its lovers and haters. I was just a bit disappointed that Joy didnt stay longer on my skin than 3-4 hours. Allure (even as EdT stays longer).
Prizrak3D – :
this was a gift. after several minutes it starts developing into sweet & quite a lovely fragrance.. it is a little bit citrusy & musky which I’m not too sure im too keen on… unfortunately it’s not unique so it will never be my favourite
simae – :
Tried this, found it pretty but not really that interesting, and certainly not worth of the name it ‘borrows’ from one of the great classic perfumes, Joy de Patou.
Unoriginal name, unoriginal bottle, unoriginal scent. I am thoroughly unimpressed by what Dior has done here.
Lockok – :
It’s a pleasant enough scent but just boring. Very safe but with the lovely Miss Lawrence face fronting it I’m sure all the fellas will buy it for their oh’s. Well that was the whole point.
It is as it says on the tin. A nice zesty opening with Jasmine and musk. I get quite a bit of citrus all along the timeline. A little rose. Nothing shouts. It’s all softened by the sandalwood base. It’s fresh, a touch zesty and musky. It is all things to the many and sadly that results in meh.
It has reasonable longevity and moderate sillage. A nice little earner for Dior.
Very linear as are most modern mainstream scents. Your first sniff is what you get all along the timeline.
owtmyiwddc – :
I tried it and was delighted. It’s citrus top notes, so a fresh fragrance. In the Door line, for me most similar to Eau Fraiche. (I don’t get the comparison to Dune, find this lighter and much more versatile. The longevity is good. For me sillage should be close. My dance partner should perceive my fragrance, not someone twenty feet a away, but that’s a matter of personal preference. A nice addition to the line. I couldn’t care less about the add campaign, if it’s got some sophistication without being overly complex, I am happy. Try it!!
Tymen – :
This actually smells nice. It smells like baby oil, rather than baby powder. Anyone who likes the smell of baby oil but finds that it’s not strong enough ought to try this
rifatt – :
The new fragrance from Dior. It’s nice, but not so much original. The jasmin-musk-citrus combination reminds me somewhat of Shalimar Souffle, but without the wow-effect.
Pretty jasmine, clean musk and fresh bergamot. There’s also soft sandalwood. To my nose the sandalwood smells more vanilla-like than it smells woody. In the background there’s some orange and cedar.
A friendly, sunny fragrance, I think the name ‘Joy’ suits this composition very well.
For a Dior fragrance, I find the performance a bit disappointing. Sillage is weak and longevity is 3-4 hours max on my skin.
No, I’ll stick to my Shalimar Souffle!
yohurt – :
What can I say about this one that hasn’t been said before? Yes, the bottle is copied (Sauvage), the name too (Jean Patou), and so is the scent (Allure). Is it a “bad” perfume? No, but I guess that depends on your point of view. I like this one more than Allure because it’s a fresher take on it, but I’m disappointed in Dior for being so unoriginal. Would I buy this? No. If I got this for free, would I wear it? Sure. It’s a like, but not a love. I’ll be waiting for the flankers (hopefully they’ll be more daring and original, and this one is just the appetizer for now).
temsega – :
I have to preface this by saying that I admire the passion so many have when it comes to loving vintage fragrances and the legacy of venerated houses so I do understand the wounded, angry feelings that this fragrance invokes by both using a name associated with Jean Patou and seemingly ‘nicking’ a scent essence that belongs to Chanel. All that aside, I have to admit I was shocked at how much I actually like this fragrance, but that’s because I adored the original Allure when I was a child and this is a reflection of that scent. I also think that it smells similar to Injoy without that stomach-turning (to me) salt note, so I can see where Dior was going with this. They could have released this as InJoy Jasmine Essensuelle because that’s basically all I’m picking up on aside from a creamy/spicy sandalwood. Not a bad scent at all to me, but the name, marketing and overall timing (pink juice as the northern hemisphere heads into winter?) is a fail.
vova75 – :
Went to Sephora the other day and got to sniff this one. Didn’t give it a test drive on my skin yet, but on paper it’s nice. Citrus and musk. Fresh and clean. Pretty, but nothing special. Doubt I’d ever buy a full bottle. It just doesn’t wow me. If I was in the mood for a fruity-floral musk scent, I’d probably opt for Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet.
WedgellCike – :
This smells like traditional lemon cologne with a bit of meaningless scent cloud. Nothing special and deifinitely isn’t worth the price.
FitteeTuh – :
a woody citrus white floral with musky balsamic accents…

Dior Sauvage for women.
Dominated by Musk, Sauvage is dominated by Ambroxan which is basically “man musk”.
Same bottle design.
vovikoid – :
The bottle of this gem is feminine answer to Sauvage.
The shape is the same.
But juice is like lighter Allure. I like it after spraing it on blotters.
gte117bedyWelty – :
I’ve felt no urgency to test it until today – I thought that it’d be a lot worse, but it’s not. Joy is pretty and conventional on the verge of unremarkable. In the opening stage I can’t possibly pick every top/middle note, whereas the dry down is pure soapy sandalwood.
This is some sort of J’Ador stripped down to the basics – even though the two perfumes clearly smell different I get similar vibes (heady musky-floral, bright, etc…).
The name seems to be mismatched for 250.000 reasons, the bottle looks way too basic and pink but honestly, I don’t think it deserves such pile of dislikes. C’mon guys, vent your frustration on something else!

Second review.
“Allure Eau Fraîche”.
A combination of Chanel Allure and Chanel Eau Premiere
with fresh and fruity top notes. I smell pear in there.
If this came out as a flanker for Allure it could have been more accepted. The perfume itself smells perfectly good, beautiful even. Modern and contemporary unlike the other two (which are absolutely lovely nevertheless).
“A joy to wear”, but the price is astronomical. If a fruity-floral costs 80 euros per 30ml it is too pricey.
Aleksei10021986 – :
Fresh, floral, weak, forgettable. But I like the design, it’s classic and girly. The perfume itself is rather boring. Most suitabable for spring and summer in my opinion

Congratulations! Dior gave birth to an extramarital though royal heir, whose parents are Allure and Chance de Chanel. The baby’s name is expected to be Joy de Diochanel. How come that my beloved maison de Dior delivered such an impostor?
SainoinaveMer – :
Probably the most hyped perfume this year. Anticipation and expectation were high. Slightly disappointed by its lack of originality and the name (Jean Patou would be turning in his grave right now!). I like it enough, but you’re all so right: There is a hint of Chanel allure here. I know Allure so well because it’s my mum’s signature scent. But the difference between these two is that allure has vanilla in it. If you have allure already, please don’t bother about Joy. Personally, I’m beginning to like Joy more and more though. It’s very safe. I can’t imagine anyone being offended by it. But to be the first perfume launch by Dior since j’adore in 1997, I expected more umph and substance. Longevity could be better. I have no problem with the ad. It is well executed. I think Jennifer looks lovely (Yes, I know of her leaked iCloud racy photos years ago!). But she is the modern day Dior woman I think. Perfect for Dior. Just like Charlie Theron perfect for j’adore. Both have a star quality look. I give this perfume 7 out of 10 for its scent. But 2.5 for originality and name!
kkf400bedyWelty – :
When I got a sample of this I tested it and I told my fiance to take a sniff, told him it’s the newest by Dior. He said it’s extremely basic and “I hope you’re not going to pay $100 for this because it says Dior on the bottle”. I agree. A perfume for people who don’t care about perfume in the slightest. Mediocrity sold for a high price just because it’s Dior. The only thing it has going for it is that it’s quite safe to give as a gift to a person who you know has no business with perfume. It says “Dior” and it smells ok. It will please.
vitek69 – :
I truly thought people were exaggerating with the negative feedback but I had a chance to smell this today and it is so…. basic. Average. Forgettable. Plain. Even for an every day “simple” fragrance it is just too basic. There’s no depth, no intrigue, no character. It’s not bad. It’s simply nothing.
If you would prefer to think positively, this would smell “good enough” on everyone and their cousin and could be given as a very generic gift to a high school girl.
Zlodei – :
As other reviewers already said: this remembers me of Midnight Charm. It was the first thought when I tried Joy. I bought Midnight Charm in 2006 when it came out and still have some left.So it is easy to compare the scents. Maybe MC is a bit more harsh in the opening, Joy smells a bit softer. MC came in an amazing bottle too. More prettier then this one. I bought Joy because I like the perfume but not realy understand why Dior used a scent similar to one they already put on the market once and also gave it the name Joy. There is already a Joy from Jean Patou. Although the sales-woman who sold me this didn’t know the Joy from Jean Patou and also not knew that Dior had once a perfume called Midnight Charm when I told her this. Maybe Dior thinks that people not have a good memory? For me this is just MC.

There is only one Joy, it’s by Jean Patou.
Cyrendylyk – :
I agree with many of the reviewers who say this reminds them of Allure EDT and Gabrielle. I think I might actually prefer Joy over those two though (:-o). In general, Dior scents work out really well for me while I haven’t had much luck with the few Chanels I’ve tried.
I wanted to love Gabrielle, love the opening, but then it turns to lemony soap on me, albeit a luxurious lemony soap. Allure EDT is a love (the only Chanel I own) but it can be too strong if I even slightly overspray, and that one too eventually dries down a bit soapy on me. (As you can guess, I’m personally not a fan of soapy scents.)
Now Joy takes the best of these two, gets rid of the Chanel soapiness, and gives it a Dior twist of a sparkly, creamy and woody, mild sweetness instead. This is not a powerhouse but it’s not trying to be. I spend most of my week in an office environment, with lots of “scent policies” (not to mention that my SO is also sensitive to strong scents) so I can’t wear powerhouse scents or those with heavy sillage in those situations, so it’s nice to have a discrete and classy option such as Joy, which in my opinion is not just a run of the mill bland soapy/fresh/lemony “office safe” scent.
I’ve worn it a couple times now and it lasts a good 5-6 hours on me.
Alhimik – :
I got a sample of Dior Joy with a Macy’s order. Really pretty, clean floral. Almost like a generic shampoo scent. This is probably blind-buy safe. It’s nothing particularly earth shattering or memorable, but it’s nice and soothing. Versatile and unpretentious. Not my usual style though but definitely pleasant to my nose. It kind of reminds me of Ralph Lauren Romance on my skin. This scent seems to remind people of a lot of other perfumes because it’s so generic and perfume-y smelling. Would I buy this for myself? No. But if I got it as a gift I wouldn’t turn it down.
gdo108intitytek – :
If anyone remembers the limited edition Midnight Charm by Dior that came out in 2006 for the holidays, to me this smells just like it and they used that perfume and rebottled it now. You can’t fool me Dior! Nice perfume anyway.

I received a sample of this in the mail this week. I figured right away that if Jennifer Lawrence was the face of this campaign that it had to be good. I actually really liked it & I’m not a fan of florals at all (gourmand lover). At first I was a little confused about it, kept smelling my wrist but couldn’t make up my mind. After a little while once the warmth of the musk started to come out I liked it a lot more. Smells really classy & feminine but not overly snobbish or old lady like. It’s light, fresh & airy. My fiancé loved it on me & I’d actually go buy it but the $100 price tag killed it for me.

So Joy has finally arrived at the local counters and I of course immediately sprayed it on my hand.
My very first impression: I am scratching my head at the great disparity between the like and dislike bars at the top of the page. Joy is by no means a groundbreaking scent nor a singular, standout fragrance such as Poison, Dune or Addict. But it is so safe and pleasant that it is hard to imagine anyone finding this offensive, except perhaps for some who may be averse to certain notes or more developed noses that could only appreciate complex fragrances. If it hadn’t been for generous outpouring of negative-leaning reviews (and some negative with a passion at that!), I would never have thought of this as a scent to gain such a massive amount of dislikes. (But then maybe I’m too generous with my likes? I very rarely click dislike, even for fragrances that are just “meh” to me.)
Anyway, on to the actual fragrance. Bright, sparkling opening that I feel will easily appeal to the younger crowd. Indeed, my much younger sister (mid-20s) who smelled it with me, liked it very much, while she disliked the Addict EDP I sprayed on my other hand. However, I didn’t find it cheap at all, and I feel it will also suit an older woman who wants something simple and light (even someone 40-ish like me). It settled into a quiet woody musk, with a touch of saltiness to my nose, reminiscent of clean skin.
Light, bright, then quiet. I understand that this may be a disappointment to someone expecting something of Poison’s caliber. Poison has only recently landed among my great loves, and Joy is light years away from it! But smelling this on its own merit, setting it apart from Dior’s legendary fragrances or any other more complex fragrance for that matter, stripping off the name Joy, I can’t find any fault to this fragrance, except perhaps its simplicity, and perhaps the fact that it was so hyped that it raised expectations even more. But I don’t find Joy’s simplicity to be such a bad thing. Perhaps it will draw in a new audience, someone not yet ready to enjoy Dior’s star players, someone like I once was a mere couple of years ago (not young, but simple of nose!).
It’s just a like and not a love, and I wouldn’t buy this for myself, simply because it’s not the type of fragrance I really reach for anymore. (Unlike my sister, I preferred Addict.) But I would wear it if it came into my possession. Yes, I hope Dior’s next major offering will be closer to the classics. But this Joy, no, it’s not so terrible.
But then again, I am a relatively recent enthusiast, with perhaps a yet undeveloped nose. So don’t take my word for it. Try it out yourself. Without any expectations, if possible. It may or may not work for you.

I normally don’t go for well-known commercial brand’s perfume like Chanel or Christian Dior, but my aunt is a loyal fan towards Dior when it comes to purchase a perfume. Joy was the only perfume which my aunt didn’t really like, so the whole 50ml bottle was given to me as a gift.
I understand all the rages towards Joy; it is pretty linear and simple perfume, which is pretty disappointing due to the history and reputation on house of Dior. Dolce Vita, Dior Addict series, Poison collections etc. were huge successes of this house and all these big hits are mainly based on deep and rich oriental aromas. However, starting from Miss Dior era, I think the house of Dior has decided to target on younger generations which is more bright, lively, being more casual and so on.
I would say Joy is a musky jasmine scent with a strong hint of sandalwood. When I smelt Joy, I immediately thought Gabrielle from Chanel. They are not identical in terms of the juice, but they do share lots of similarities; both perfumes are from very classic houses which used to have a deep and rich perfume as their signature collection line, but just recently they started to re-target their audiences as time pass by (of course, a huge bashing and raging comments are another similarities between them).
In my humble opinion, it is not a bad scent. It is very office-safe and versatile perfume to have (could be worn when you’re in casual jeans with a blouse or a semi formal party dress). The silage is not that huge, but the lasting power is still pretty good on me at least. However, if you’ve known all the reputations and innovations that the house of Dior have done in the past, it is definitely a miss since it’s not ground-breaking or something that is extraordinary. However, I guess the general preference on the perfume nowadays is getting lighter and minimal, so that’s the reason why those classic power houses are releasing such creations which is very sad to mention.
But in general, I liked it pretty much. Just that I don’t love it.

I quite like this. In all fairness, I expected to dislike it because of the amount of dislike for it and the fact I am not a lover of sweet florals. I do not know many of the fragrances it has been compared to here, nor am I all that acquainted with Dior fragrances to begin with. I have and love wearing J’adore EDP.
That being said. I like this one. It reminds me of J’adore but it is not as deep and is definitely lighter and more fresh. If J’adore is gold, this is pink – the colors are spot on.
The person who said it has a bubblegum feel is right – it absolutely smells like a bubblegum-y, flowery, soft pillowy sweetness. Its dry down is a softer but still linear version of its opening and it retains its similarity with J’adore. It lasts moderately well on me – 1 spray spread across both wrists lasts a good 4-5 hours. I apply and wear it as a skin scent and it mixes well with my body chemistry.
This is one I will be keeping.

Tried it in the airport shop. Does. Not. Last. At. All.
Is not bad, but is pretty generic, good to give to a teenage girl, very light, girly, soft, pink, diappears in one hour, which is good when your daughter is learning how to manage a bottle of perfume. But quite frankly for this price there’s tones of better stuf
