Description
John Varvatos is celebrating 10 years of his successful business with a new fragrance for men. The fragrance is created in collaboration with fragrance licensee Elizabeth Arden Inc.to expand Arden’s offer of products for men.
The new fragrance is actually a version of popular perfume for men John Varvatos, launched in 2004. Varvatos’ latest product, a limited edition eau de toilette is named John Varvatos 10th Anniversary Special Edition. It was created by perfumer of the original edition – Rodrigo Flores-Roux. As the designer says: “I wanted something that felt a little sexier for men”.
John Varvatos 10th Anniversary offers refreshing top notes of chinotto orange, bergamot and Ceylonese cinnamon. A heart is based on the main ingredient – patchouli orpur enhanced with Haitian vetiver roots and black leather. The composition closes with amber, cistus resin, fluid balsams and Tamboti wood.
The glass flacon is very elegant and covered with silver-grey chrome, topped with a very unusual cap with JV inscription on the top. The flacon is also decorated with a tag with John Varvatos 10-year logo on the neck of the flacon. The fragrance arrives on the market as 4.2 oz.(125ml ) EDT from October 2010.

This is very reminiscent 02 Tauer L `Air du Desert Marocain

I love the orange/citrus opening of this fragrance. I can also smell the vetyver and patchouli, which I love. I sprayed it on this morning at 8:00am and it is now 4:00pm, I can still smell it on me. Great fragrance by John Varvatos.
STRELOK – :
I’m wondering if this is a bad batch issue, a tester bottle gone bad or just a joke. (But the reviews preceding mine suggest that it isn’t an isolated bad tester.)
What I got was an unbelievably vile opening blast, very animalic. It’s the famous Guerlin Jicky vomit/fecal/cat urine note times twenty. “Off the chart pungent” in the words of one reviewer, indeed. Then – nothing. Or almost noting. A faint orange-amber note of no projection but good longevity remains. I didn’t mind it but my friend whom I tried it on tells me it has the cat urine smell to him.
If that was the celebratory anniversary fragrance, I wonder what the party was like. Happy anniversary!

I love this fragrance as much as all the other John Varvatos colognes. I can most certainly smell the Patchouli and Vetyver which I love. I also smell citrus and I love the combination of all these ingredients together. I will be wearing it very frequently.
ArrawayNentee – :
I get lots of patchouli and amber right at the opening and stays pretty linear on my skin. Longevity is a little below average 4-6 hours. Sillage is average as well. You can get away with a few extra sprays if its cold outside. Otherwise 3 sprays max. It could annoy or offend your neighbors. I like the scent but not a crowd pleaser by any means. If you like earthy patchouli and amber scents you may like this one.

I tried this and wanted to give this a review. Unfortunately, I could not overcome the opening of this, and it didn’t improve much with time.
On my skin chemistry, it smelled like someone had made a few trips to the gym for a heavy work-out in 45C weather without showering for the past week. In a word: VILE. Sweat, and not in a good way. Really disgusting to smell. This ranks up there with ELDO Secretions Magnifiques in that it’s just so off-the-chart pungent.
I can at least tolerate the other Varvatos offerings, my boss is a particular fan and they work very well for him. This is not one I can imagine him wearing, nor one I’d recommend he even try. Fortunately, longevity is killer, but it’s far too long for the aroma it projects.
This is one you should definitely test extensively before you make a decision, but mine is an absolute no.

I picked this up at a fifty percent discount so I had to grab it. I’ve spent a few evenings experimenting with it and must say that I have grown quite pleased with it.
The opening reminds me a bit of my Idole de Lubin, it’s quite boozy, and screams rather loud right away. After it dries down a bit the booziness starts to mellow and it becomes warm and spicy and comfortable. There is a bit of “nastiness” that can be detected once you put your nose in it and I like it, as does my woman.
This will be nice to break the monotony of the office scents I have to wear to work. It’s not commonly worn so it should be interesting.

love the bottle,
not the scent so much…

Honestly, this scent smells terrible to most people. While some perfume enthusiast can find pleasure in it, it irritates and repels the average girls nose. Take it from my personal experience. Just trying to help my fellow men out there. However, I do get a lot of compliments from the original John Varvatos cologne.
krotyra – :
Very fresh, very green . I found it disappointing for a Varvatos scent because it’s like so many out there. Not very pleasant.

I have had this for a while and I have not reviewed it. I sill start by saying that I adore this fragrance so this review will be positive.
This starts off with a nice citrus note but with the added pleasure of cinnamon. When I first smelled this (yes, “smelled” my British friends, “smelt” is a fish) there was a woman next to me that exclaimed’ Oh, that’s sexy!” I agree. The citrus note does not last over about half an hour for me, the cinnamon remains but adds Patchouli and a hint of leather. In the dry down stage the wood sort of takes over but still with a hint of patchouli and cinnamon for me.
This is a masculine scent, never cloying and never over the top. Always a fragrance with class but not old school in my book. Silage is not huge for me, but I usually don’t want to be noticed from a mile away, if I did I would wear Le Male. People close to me notice and like what they smell. and I like it too.
This is a reassuring scent, and one that is in the end close to the skin and very warm. Most say this is best for winter but I think this is one woody masculine scent that could be worn any time of the year.
The bottle is beautiful, but don’t but this for the bottle! Buy it because it is IMHO, one of the better masculine scents out there, especially if you don’t want to smack someone in the sinuses with your smell!

When I first tried this on my skin, I had it applied on one wrist, and JV Original on the other. JV Origianl was great and I actually never liked 10th Anniversary right away. But after 30min when JV original was pretty much gone….shame, I started to like 10th Anniversay more and more, and later bought it. I love the scent, and it has great longevity on me.

When I first saw the flacon I was absolutely taken away. I could only hope that the fragrance itself would be as great as it’s presentation. Away spraying I could automatically tell there was cinnamon in the fragrance. And yes I would would to say that the cinnamon was the most dominant ingredient. The first spray is very loud and strong but after you let it sit for about ten minute the fragrance starts to smell like burnt vanilla which is a very pleasant smell to me buy I don’t it would turn head but make one feel like that walk through a candle store. I know there is no vanilla in the fragrance but that was my interpretation of it. It’s not for everyone, but it is for that man that loves style and is not afraid to get in touch with his sensitive side. Which is not really me.
In short: to strong to begin with, sweet and spicy, very sweet later

Puddlemonkey has a point; it doesn’t last very long.
This type of scent can’t be too strong or it will be repulsive, so to for me to say it’s a bit wouldn’t be fair, but I like my scents to be very loud but without being overwhelmingly pungent. A few scents have been too powerfully projective that I get dizzy wearing them.
The smell itself; a very strongly green tone that’s slightly sweet, a slighty liquer body that I would have thought was cognac or brandy, but I’m guessing is the sap.
The patchouli and leather make the perfect heart for this scent.
I find the scentnitself sensual, romantic, determined. It reminds me of a hard office day ending on a lounge at a quiet bar, a stiff scotch, a loosened tie, tussled hair. Its over, just relax.

had artisan as my first varvatos cologne. i found it to be too “orangy”. this 10th anniversary edition is a completely different scent – way different from artisan, artisan black, and even the original varvatos. i get a lovely vanilla like scent as the opening (i’m not sure if this is the patchouli some of our experts are talking about). after that, a definite cinnamony/chocolate flavor (and being born in Ceylon, i do appreciate the Ceylonese Cinnamon as a key ingredient). lovely spicy feel, but not in a strong way. after about 3-4 hours, i got a delicious vanilla/leather like scent. the leather was much like my old leather pilot’s jacket which is well worn in. not a “stale” leather scent, but very warm, fresh leather/vanilla combo. did not appreciate much of the spicy feel toward the end of the day……nice winter fragrance
veter336 – :
I love JV’s stuff, but this is a colossal FAIL! Smells like a watered down A*Men, gross. Only bright spot is it lasts about an hour, then the nightmare is over.
qwqwasa – :
actually…disappointing i gotta say. just received JV 10th anniversary frag yesterday but right after i sniffed the bottle, and then took the first test of this…i felt like fainted…how could JV let this out on to the market which is already full of cheap fragrances…:(
