By all accounts I should absolutely hate Hypnotic Poison. My type of scents are fresh, white florals or bright, citrusy scents. But strangely enough, I don’t hate this perfume. I’d never buy it, and wearing it for long will probably give me a headache, but it’s not even close to the sweetness I thought it’d have. It’s mainly vanilla, but it’s not a sweet, gourmand vanilla, it’s a powdery, creamy and smooth scent. It’s very warm and fascinating. If I had smelled it on anyone, I’d totally ask them for the name. It’s very intriguing in some way. Wow.
In conclusion, I’m very intrigued by it, even if it’s not my type of smell at all. Which speaks great of Dior and the nose behind this jewel.
Ps. I smelled an old 2000s bottle. I heard the new one is much worse.

This is fascinating. So many times I thought if I had to buy at least a small bottle. For me, owning Hypnotic Poison it would be like losing, a little bit, that air of mystery that still possesses.
It is twilight. It is mysterious.
I follow the trail as soon as I get the chance, until it disappears.

This has always been my mother’s favorite. Though I have no idea what it smells like now. So many great classics have been reformulated to not even a shadow of what they once were. I’m not sure if that’s the case with HP. During my childhood I couldn’t appreciate the scent. It was overwhelming, sweet, seductive and warm. That’s all I remember. I would love a bottle of the 2000 Hypnotic Poison now.

I got a sample of HP today and it was a little different than what I expected it to be but very much exceeded my expectations. It’s sweet but not as sweet as I expected which I surprisingly love. It is such a SMOOTH scent! Very luxurious. Vanilla, almond, sandalwood and musk are the notes I notice most. Some people mentioned it smelled like play doh but I don’t notice that at all.
I think this would work for any woman at any age; young, mature, and anywhere in between (I’m 23 and adore this btw). It’s a very sensual scent so might be best suited for night wear but if you’re a bold and sexy personality who demands attention then you can rock this anytime!

People trying and reviewing this for the first time: you must start with a vintage bottle. The new version is like one of those wafer thin body sprays from T.J. Maxx — a huge bottle for $9.99 .
You want evidence that the original is the “fan favorite” ? Do an eBay search- the old ones get snatched up instantly! They are getting harder to find because of the Hypnotic Poison Hoarders of the Universe.

Okay I tried Hypnotic Poison for the first time today. On me, the strongest notes are vanilla, almond, & musk. It is sweet but not overly sweet and it’s warm. I get a little bit of the play-doh everyone else has mentioned but it isn’t quite full on. There is something else that is also familiar and I can’t quite place it….it is not rootbeer float but something else. The powdery aspect of the scent is what makes it familiar, at least I think.
I liked the fragrance more the longer I wore it but I am still undecided. More testing is in my future with this one!

Love it on my mom. Like the powdery vanilla smell.

This fragrance is very pleasant. I’ve never had the pleasure to smell the first version but if you tell me it’s better than this … it will be divine. However, he does not beat his dark twin Midnight Poison (which I consider Dior’s best olfactory creation for women). Vanilla-like and overwhelming opening followed by a magical and dried almond and coconut. It reminds me a lot of snow white and the poisoned apple. How can I put it shortly? That’s it: EROTIC! so sensual and attractive. So overwhelming and divine. “Hypnotic Poison”, after all the name got it right. A color for this perfume: Blood Red. A state of mind: Seductive. A celebrity (albeit imaginary): Jessica Rabbit
    Rating: 8/10

The most beautiful perfume ever, wish it was a little less common, I try to not wear it too much because it annoys me that whenever I wear it there’s five other people wearing it but at the same time I get jealous when I smell it on someone and wish it was me wearing it haha
On me it smells like bitter almonds, powdery vanilla and in the drydown there’s presence of creamy white flowers and deep fruitiness which makes it smell so luscious and gives a little bit of juicy freshness to more dry notes of almond and vanilla, but it’s SO creamy and fluffy and soft, never cloying unless you overspray.
Lasts for entire day and I can still smell it in the morning, and I have the reformulated version!
Best suited for winter, in small amounts it can be worn in warmer weather but then it becomes much more linear and loses those fruity and floral notes.
It does remind me a little of play doh but I like that, gives it special kind of nostalgic warmth.
One of my favorites if not THE favorite❤❤❤

It is likely an issue of pH at play, but for me the initial application of “Hypnotic Poison” just smelled intensely of cough syrup. It did lessen after a few minutes, and I could detect some mild floral notes…most of it was just musk, though, and the impression of cough syrup persisted. By far one of my worst experiences with a perfume.

I guess I became a bit obsessed with this perfume and it’s flankers.
I have a vintage of the EDT which I love.
I also love the EDP, and Eau Sensuelle and also Confetto from Profumum Roma.
They are all simply amazing and “feel good” perfumes.
Yes I love all of them!

I dont know how you can not like This. Sweet vanilla, coconut , almonds on a musky base. So sweet, so strong and soft , sexy and feminine at the same time.Hypnotic poison has it all. Silage end longevity is way above average. Worth every penny

My sweetest perfume! Almonds, play dough, vanilla, warm cozy scent!

  14. :

It is almondy, warm and vanillic, its not sugary sweet, but vanilla sweet (I don’t know whether that makes sense). At one point I liked it a lot, however not so much lately.

  15. :

Beautiful scent. It has a lot of almond but not tiring. It has some sweetness but not the kind of sweetness found in most of the perfumes we have in the market now. It is a little sweet but a classy adult kind of sweetness not girly candy sweetness.

  16. :

    3 out of 5

This is my signature perfume. It is sweet, I can smell coconut, vanilla, almond on me very long-lasting
, around 7-8 hrs. The Sillage can called as strong, around 0.5-1 m.(Depends on how many sprays).

I think we need a separate page here for the reformulation[s?] of this. The current version is not a bomb and the longevity is just ok. It is actually pretty light weight. I wish Dior would be upfront and honest about this. I haven’t even smelled the original but from what people say on here, they are very different.

You know, I never associated a rootbeer scent per se, but gosh-darn, I agree with the reviewers who say so!!
Hypnotic Poison to me is the closest to the OG Poison of any of the flankers. Poison, circa 1985-1989..not the Poison of today. Yummy, sweet with warmth, with a hint of sexiness!! Pull me closer..and let me intoxicate you with my scent..I am sweet to the bone!!
Kidding aside, this is especially great for cooler months. Not sure it is crowd-safe nor office friendly..But hey, the OG Poison could be smelled and practically every other female at the mall back in the day…;)
But rootbeer scent aside, the notes I pick up here are a vanilla/almond and a slight nuttiness and an even slighter woodiness and a little fruitiness. There is a warmth, a coziness.
But having said that, I think there are some tricky notes that could be translated on different skins and by different noses in different ways, so I just don’t think this is great for places you will be in close-quarters with people for a long time, as some of these notes can hit noses in a bad way. So I would wear this only when I am around those who I know like this or don’t mind sweet type fragrances anyway; not for around anybody with sensitive noses, anyway, but I am kind of that way with most fragrances. This one in particular I feel has some tricky notes, so, there’s that.. Can last all day/all night, and moderate to beast sillage, depending on how many spritzes, where spritzed, and how closely spritzed.
Welcome, cooler temps.. And welcome, HP back to the front of the line!! 🙂 xx

A handsome, clove-laced rootbeer. Something of a masculine, hairy barber-shop smell underneath. I think I would blindly let Annick Menardo lead me anywhere…
I’ve noticed that the three Menardo-composed fragrance I am familiar with — Bvlgari Black, Lolita Lempicka EDP, and Hypnotic Poison EDT — all have a vanilla/cherry rubbery undertone at some point, almost as if they share the same DNA, which would make a lot of sense. Kinky.
Would love to try the original!

Goodness…EVERY single time i pass a tester of this in a store I simply HAVE to spray this on myself…I’ve promised myself that one day I’m going to save up for a bottle of this beautiful fragrance! This certainly doesn’t smell like any old generic vanilla gourmand, the vanilla used in this smells raw and real. Imagine a tall glass of root beer topped with gourmet vanilla ice cream, served with a side of toasted almonds. THAT is what this perfume would be if it was a dessert. The vanilla and almond are the main notes for me; I can just about detect the woods and some of the plum notes at the base. Such a cosy, warming and huggable fragrance! Best to be reserved for wintertime and cold weather only, sprayed onto a sweater or scarf as well as your skin! I think overall this may be the best poison out of the whole range.

If you want to try the real deep and rich Hypnotic poison you should find the old formula! It’s beyond any comparison with the new! Simply fantastic!

That’s an amazing scent and I’m in love with it. Both the Hypnostic Poison EDT and EDP are fantastic. But the quality is not that good. Sillage is very soft and it isn’t long -lasting. Not worth the money.

…that almond protects that vanilla and it protects you. You can never ever identify in which balance the ingredients are layered in this perfume. So that everytime you inhale it, that’s how you want to inhale some more. Because every time you inhale that almond it just tricks you in because it covers up all the other ingredients. It covers them and makes that cocoon of softness. A slight rubbery feel around it you can never penetrate. You can’t cut through that rubber. You can’t open it up to get to the other ingredients. It never let’s you do it. It keeps you just hinting at it all the time what’s inside that rubber coat. But it never lets you in. And that’s the hypnotic aspect of this drug. Of this potent poison. Because it poisons you. It’s your hand putting willingly into that basket of the forbidden fruit and the snake is in there. And you know the snake is in there. You want that snake to bite you. You are ready to get bitten by the snake. It poisons you and you want it to poisons you. The venom of the snake is the venom in this bottle. That’s how it is to experience hypnotic poison.

Trip back in time to the 70’s, and you just ended your shift at A&W where you served cars on rollerskates and spilled root-beer on yourself.

I get wafts of savoury vanilla with a hint of almond, reminiscent perhaps of fresh pastry like these filled, tender horns coated with powdered or glazed sugar. A herbal element is revealed closer to the skin, initially mingled with what seems like a lightly burned synthetic element that I do not necessarily appreciate. It may overall not be overtly complex and the question of versatility might be raised, but still this is the kind of comforting fragrance that I appreciate from time to time and that I believe to be thankful for.

What I can imagine Lucrezia Borgia would wear had she lived in this century.
A venetian red Valentino dress, a kitten smile, an intrigue filled with cyanide and smolder and Hypnotic Poison inside her ring.
The smell of vanilla laced bitter almonds that lingers on the air after cyanide has reaped its toll at a crime scene plays a trick on the mind that turns all sorts of harmless, digestible things like coconut, vanilla, almonds and licorice smell mouth-watering yet inedible. Brilliantly deceptive, like a gourmand shadowplay.
This being reformulated makes me steam with anger, though. Dior, what the hell…?

This is another fragrance worthy of the adjective “classic “ . It is so well balanced, not loud, yet does project gracefully to garner a compliment every time it is worn ( yes that is right ). It reminds me of Chanel Allure , but not because they smell similar . They are both ultra classy , versatile for most occasions and also long lasting fragrances . Some fragrances are worth a higher price , and HP is as well done as a Chanel .
I do not think this will be a trendy fragrance or one that goes out of style . It reflects the highest quality , originality , and will always enhance the lady who wears it . I think HP is also one that attracts male approval . It is sexy , warm yet also suitable for a professional setting if not over applied.
I have never experienced any whiff of play doh or root beer . However , I smell a slight note of anise , which adds interest and complexity . I like the anise very much and the smoothness of the blending notes that linger and literally bless my nose all day long .

My friend’s daughter wore this and raved about it, so I thought I’d try it if it was so great. My first few times spritzing it on, I thought, “Ugh.” But each time I’d go back and try again, because slowly I began to crave the vanilla Play-Doh dryness. After about a year (and trust me, I have never taken so long to purchase a scent in my life), I broke down at last – used my points and some birthday money for the 30 ml EdT at Shoppers. I doubt I will ever find a pre-reformulation version, so this 2018 version is just fine by me. It makes me happy, it calms me down, and it just plain smells good. And I love the feel of the small 30 ml bottle in my hand. Feels like a magic talisman!

I cannot believe the QUALITY of an EDT made in the 90’s versus the EDT made after the millennium. Crazy DIFFERENCE. And I am talking about the fragrance industry as a whole.
Dior please remain consistent with this fragrance.

Hypnotic, sexy and sophisticated but still somehow ‘sassy’. This perfume, despite its new formulation, is very long lasting! Especially for an EDT. What I adore about this perfume is how it can be used for special occasions or just a cozy day/night. It is what it is! I never smell this on anyone where I live so that’s just perfect. I just love Hypnotic Poison for its dry, warm, woodsy vanilla smell, which is so sensual and sexy but still cozy and cuddly. People tell me I smell like cookies or cookie dough but in a very sexy way, fortunately!
Edit: HP is now my mostly loved perfume. I never get tired of it, and I just smell sexy and delicious forever. I found my perfect sweet scent and all my surroundings love it too!

upon getting the initial smell, I am reminded of a delicious local dessert named “فالوده کرمانی” (faloodeh kermani)
it is made of starch, rosewater or mintwater, and served with ice and suagr
it smells powdery, sweet, floral and cold
actually I have received comments that it smells like Sholeh Zard (Persian Saffron Rice Pudding), another delicious traditional dessert!
Hypnotic Poison starts with a blast of cool, dry, vanilla…very little sweetness…then more and more waves of coldness hit me….after years of wearing this perfume, I am still baffled as to where this coolness comes from…maybe it is a specific type of vanilla?
eventually on my skin, this scent morphs into indeed the most hypnotic mix of woods, vanilla, tuberose and musk…in that order…coconut and plum can be clearly smelled as well, giving the scent a tobaccoish vibe…it’s super smooth and rounded, there is no harshness…after a day or so (yes it’s that strong), I get 90s scented erasers vibe from it!
    addictive

I hate the initial spray. Smells like bug spray and vanilla. But boy does it transform after 10-15 minutes. It starts smelling so delicious like almond vanilla pastry with a touch of sandalwood. I love the way it transforms on my skin and it projects pretty well. This is a cuddle quality perfume.

As a lover of deep, strong and long lasting scents I had to trial this! a few years back people I knew used this and it smells heavenly. Purchased a bottle which was quite pricy and it does smell nice, I like the bottle and packaging. But when I wore it you couldn’t smell it, I’m a heavy sprayer and I’d get a whiff of it if I smelt my wrists, but beyond that the silage and longevity were awful – felt like a complete waste of money, I sprayed a good amount on myself and 15mins later asked a friend if she like my perfume and said she couldn’t smell anything? not sure if my bottles off or they’ve remade it but while the scent is divine -there’s no longevity of this on me. Wont be re purchasing.

I was surprised when I sampled this for the first time and fell in love. My typical fragrances of choice are super sweet and bright. Over the years, I have developed an appreciation and fondness for deeper, darker fragrances, but I am very picky about them. Hypnotic Poison does it for me! It’s fabulously complex. I definitely get a sexy, mildly sweet, mysterious, almost goth-like vibe from this, whilst still remaining feminine.

I’m so disappointed. I thought I would love this. I tried and let it settle and dry down. Just awful. Gag inducing for me. Not even that it smelled that bad but it was literally catching in the thoat and gagging me. I thought I would love this based on the notes but it’s just a hard pass for me. I can’t.
On a different note I will say absolutely no play doh smell on me though. Just yuck. I’m almost disappointed in my nose for not liking this. I really wanted to. Total scrubber with Ajax and a toothbrush…and it’s still there mocking me with its grossness….
    I’m wondering if it’s the tuberose I don’t like.

I decided to spray this on the past two days at ULTA just to see if it comes up play doh on me. Not really! At first and on paper its relatively straight vanilla root beer but in about 15 minutes it dries down to a nice vanilla almond cookie scent. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t find the sillage to be particularly strong which is fine. It’s long lasting but not invasive. All in all I really like it. I’ve had both Hypnose and vintage Tabu, this reminds me of both in a way but I swear I smell heliotrope. this has a more floral side.
I might eventually try to swap for this or buy but for now, I’m giving it a pleasantly positive revie

I find this poison the easiest one in reception. It is sweet vanilla. Perfectly enveloping in winter and late autumn. It will appeal to the majority. There is no aggressive turberosis here like in the classic or storm jasmine like in Pure. It is gentle and nice. My perfume also corresponds. They are “easy” to wear. They take many compliments and pay attention to men.

  40. :

    4 out of 5

Tried the EDT at a Dior counter as they didn’t have an EDP to test. I sprayed it on my hand and I can smell it with my arm fully extended. I wanted to love this as I’ve read so many reviews touting this as an HG gourmand vanilla-bomb. And it is. Only, on my skin, the combination of vanilla, almonds and coconut give off the infamous play-doh smell. It’s absolutely a play-doh bomb on first spray. Once it dries down a bit, that vibe settles down into something soft, and much more palatable, even beautiful. The play-doh element doesn’t quite go away – I suspect the interplay of the almond and the coconut. The drydown is okay and I like the sexy, powdery sweetness it becomes but I just can’t get over that opening. It’s classified as an Oriental Vanilla but I’m really missing some power in the oriental department and I believe the earlier formulations did that part justice.
Edit: Longevity is surprisingly good. 10 hours in and I can still smell it.

My favourite and it’s probaby going to be my signature scent. The combination of vanilla, coconut and almonds is amazing – soothing, balancing, reminds me of a sweet summer cocktail or freshly baked cookies in winter. Makes me feel romantic, gentle, warm. It’s seductive but not in a “dark sexy ” way, but more romantic and tender, dreamy. Sweet lovemaking, not passionate and wild. At the same time not girly- like, but very feminine. I just adore it!

Update: So i sprayed this a little heavily last night around 5pm, and thismorning at bout 8am it was still going strong.
This may not be the bewitching magical aroma it once was before the reformation, but on me, the longevity is amazing!
It had seemed to morph into a deeper scent too; there were fruitier and slightly woodier notes there.
This was my favorite stage of the whole scent i just wish it came sooner, that vanilla clings on for quite some time.

    This is a vanilla bomb!
I got a new bottle of this, with the shiny glass not the matte. Its kind of like a stronger Kenzo Amour, which i already own so it feels like a bit of a redundant purchase but i love Amour so i naturally love this too its just this new version is so similar i think if you have one you don’t really need the other but maybe thats just how it dries on me and its probably different on others.
There are differences though; where Amour is powdery and soft, HP is quite heavy and thick They both have a really natural vanilla, not sugary sweet but very close to the real thing.
Amour has a smoky sort of oriental finish from the incense but this is a creamy almond, its really lovely.
I have smelled the old version on so many women and when worn right ( sprayed lightly lol) its absolutely beautiful; a perfect balance of fruity, almondy, and creamy.
This new version is alll about the vanilla and i get none of the unpleasant sounding notes like play dough and root beer, thankfully..why would anyone want to actually smell like play dough?
The opening is similar to Christina Aguilera’s By night, this is the only time i get any fruity notes, and that fades very quickly and settles into the the smoothest velvety rich vanilla almond cream that last for hours and hours and hours….
I tested it very lightly on the back of my wrist yesterday at about 12pm and after showering and washing dishes, i could still smell it on me at 2pm today! So longevity is pretty unreal.
I got this with Addict ( also the new version, despite the sight i purchased from advertising it as the 2012 version)
Addict is like the night scent and hypnotic poison is the daytime fragrance.
Honestly,I was torn between this and the edp but a lot the reviews for the edp said theres a very prominent licorice note, which put me off but i think that one would’ve actually been the bettrr choice.

Listen, I totally get that this stuff is loved by so many people. It seems like everyone gets some kind of different beautiful sugary vanilla fantasy from this fragrance, and I love the goth girl vibes. There’s much to appreciate with this fragrance, but oh my… please don’t blind buy this. Please try it first. I went to the store to see what all the fuss was about, why everyone thought this was the sexiest thing ever, and 10 minutes later, I was walking through a shoe store with my nose to my wrist and a tense expression on my face, looking very perplexed. This… this is bottled Play-Doh… What do they put in Play-Doh to make it smell like that? What do they put in Hypnotic Poison to make it smell like Play- Doh? A mystery.

I asked my husband for this one Christmas, I had no idea it had been reformulated so you can imagine how disappointed I was when I smelled it. The vintage version is so much better in my opinion. Better silliage and longevity and it had a fuller warmer feel to it.This is just “meh”. Kinda smells like Play-doh. I really wish they would have left it the way it was. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

It’s perfectly pleasant, soft, creamy, smokey vanilla, but I was very underwhelmed when I tested it after seeing how much beloved it is. Not worthy of being called “hypnotic poison” in my humble opinion. The name was making me expect something else entirely.

I prefer Poison, but this is nice also. More powdery, more “come to bed baby” kinda scent.
    Not bad.

I hear a lot of the original fragrance and how wonderful it was, but having never smelt/smelled that one, I can only review the newer version.
I own the EDP and I love it, such beautiful gourmand/floral, a tiny bit powdery but not enough to turn one off; it smells of warmth, comfort, mystery and above all elegance and yet not necessarily sexy (?). The notes blend beautifully and I don’t feel it’s overwhelmingly sweet, just sweet enough. At first it projects strongly but not in an offensive way and it dries down to a nice personal space projection. I find that it has great longevity and it does linger on the clothes. I love the magical, maybe “haze” “dreamy”—Hypnotic(!) feel of the scent. The perfume’s name is very appropo:) I always receive compliments when wearing it. It’s a perfect fragrance for a special gathering, dinner, the theater… I absolutely love this fragrance.
For those who feel that a perfume doesn’t have enough longevity, I recommend using a good body lotion before spraying to give it something to cling to. Sometimes when a perfume doesn’t seem to last as long as I would like it to, I spray a bit of the perfume into the lotion, use, then spray.

A headache inducing smoky almond scent. So thick and stifling.
I really tried to enjoy it on my skin, but I just can’t. I tested it so many times now…

A year ago, Hypnotic Poison turned into something sweaty and rank on my skin – I was devastated as it’s one of the rare instant loves I’ve come across. I tried it again and it’s either been reformulated, or the weather was kinder today (in summer?), because it’s beautiful on me now. Still complex but balanced, with the most gorgeous vanilla I’ve found. Lasts and lasts.

I did a partial exchange of a different Dior (Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming Pearl Roller) and bought this yesterday after comparing Hypnotic against Pure Poison on test strips. I was wearing a good amount of Chanel Coco Mad and didn’t want to try either of Poisons over that.
So glad I bought it! I sprayed some on my wrists before going to bed last night and, just wow! It a warm, well-rounded fragrance. It’s got some interesting notes, too, so it isn’t just “nice,” it’s got a bite to it. I can appreciate that slight bitterness, as it adds some dimension. I love this. Definitely will try others in this line.

This is my second review of Hypnotic Poison. It’s the middle of winter here in NZ (June 2018) and I wore this today. 5 sprays permeated throughout the entire day as I kept getting wafts of superior quality vanilla. Like opening a vanilla pod and scratching out the seeds and crushing them. Wow… and to think I nearly parted with my bottle. Definitely a winter frag for me.

I’ve got this in EDP , mmmmmmm and eau sensuelle , mmmmmmm, and eau secrete, mmmmmmm … So it made sense
    To try the original edt.
I went for a vintage edt with Christian Dior on front
Probably 1998 before first reform, but I’m warning people my bottle smelled of hardly anything so
Do ask questions if you buy vintage, make sure it’s been well stored and still has some good strength to it as sadly mine was a real let down .
Batch said 8603 stamped on side and was a 30 ml.
Time is catching up with these vintage bottles it seems, unless of course it was a watered down bottle ?
Does anyone have an early bottle is it still potent or has it lost much of its notes??
I’m not having a lot of luck with vintage perfume lately.
    ( Sigh’s)…..

So I just had to buy another bottle of HP when I was sent a sample of Juliette Has a Gun’s MMmmm. I thought it was quit reminiscent, but didn’t have the presence or girth of HP.
The first time I purchased HP was in the late 90’s and yes…it was different. I loved the rubber feel of the bottle…almost fetish-like, and the juice inside….good googley-woo….it was there to make pronouncements about sex appeal, spice and yummy almond goodness…but without the diabetes.
I miss that formulation….it was magnificent with my chemistry.
Fast forward to the reformulation and I have to say I still love it…but I’m not entranced by it as before. That being said…it is still a solid top 10 fragrance for me…perhaps for just reminding me of the previous version’s glory.
This version is a little softer…still comes through as spicy on me…but the vanilla/almond can be on the hairy edge of being overbearing…I think the sandalwood saves it.
All that being said, I do love wearing it, and I get compliments on it whenever I do. It is warm, comforting and wood,y and I won’t ever be without a bottle of it.

For me it’s more obnoxiously sweet than mysterious and sexy but could be pleasant if not oversprayed

I’m in the odd camp of enjoying the root beer float beginning, but hating the drydown on my skin. It turns into B.O. and is the only perfume I have ever returned. (I loved it enough to pay retail!)

I still can remember that feeling when my boyfriend´s mom put her cashmere scarf over my shoulders /because I was cold/ – and my whole soul was filled up with the scent of mild & sweet vanilla, gourmand almonds, bittersweet apricot kernels & coconut milk. Since then I´ve known this fragrance is absolutely perfect for cold & bad weather – it keeps you warm & makes you feel comfortable.

This is the one that started my passion for perfumes. I was 20 years old and lucky enough to have bought the pre-formulation. Not suitable for those without an affinity for gourmands and orientals. It does have slight root beer and licorice redolents, but so what? All the notes come together for a velvety and sexy perfume that will get compliments. The new formulation feels watered-down, and the vanilla is slightly different- I’ve revived it by layering it with Diptyque’s Eau Duelle. Hoping to snag an original before it becomes totally obsolete.

Whoops, just ordered a new bottle. The first perfume I’ve ever repurchased, I just cannot go without any longer. It’s the one I reach for when I’m not sure what to wear, when I’m sad, when I wanna feel sexy. This is how close I’ve come to having a signature. Warm, soft, sweet, powdery vanilla, so so beautiful. The coconut isn’t cheap, suntan smelling, it’s blended so beautifully. This isn’t a very helpful review I know, I just needed to rant about my love for this scent.
I like how this scent can be both comforting and seductive. A classic!

Hypnotic Poison wears really woody, sweet and even a tad spicy on me. When I first started wearing it I had to be careful how much I would apply because it was almost too sweet and nauseating. I was afraid that the nutty note would be too intense and not work with my skin, but luckily I get a warm spicy vanilla most of the time. I always have people asking me what I’m wearing when I have this perfume on. For me, this scent can only be worn in the Fall or Winter. It’s too cloying and “gooey” to wear in warmer weather. But it’s an absolute masterpiece.

This is gorgeous! I usually can’t stand sweet scents, but HP is in no way sickly or cloying. I
