Description

After the success of Hypnose for women, Lancome launched masculine version of this perfume in a similar bottle. Actor Clive Owen is the new face of Lancome‘s Hypnose Homme men’s fragrance. Perfume is built on a contrast between aromatic and oriental notes. The composition starts out with relaxing fresh notes of bergamot, mandarine and green mint note followed by a spicy cardamom accord. Its aromatic heart is made of lavender note from the South of France harmonized with spices and almond note. The oriental base is composed of patchouli from Indonesia, musk and amber. It was created by Maurice Roucel in 2007.

Cardamon and lavender take the main stage here – the first one straight from the opening, with lavender becoming more prominent as the time passes. Be careful not to overspray it. If used carefully, this one is a really charming fragrance, ideal for colder days.

The drydown smells extremely similar to Mon Jasmin Noir by Bulgari. This one is woodier but quite as sweet; that one has some moneyed sweetness that is a bit louder. But they are like a boy-girl twin situation. I imagine them as attractive and enviably insolent blondes.
They are both a sweet musc/patchouli base and introduce sweetness to the formula from the get-go. I find Hypnose Homme having a sweet woody quality, and get next to no citrus here. And the mint in this is not dry nor bitter. Very faded. Maybe the scent could have been a bit more intriguing if the lavender and mint had been imagined as a bit more potent in a traditionally masculine French sort of manner. I bet Lancome feared for it to smell to old if they were to punch up those two though.
I like him, because he is dashing. Well polished and oiled. Poor sillage and longevity though. Gimmick-y bottle that looks lesser next to Guerlain and Chanel.

    A very unique scent.
Has a medicinal note, like that note in Clinique happy, maybe both has something similar as both companies has cosmetics?
Very neat, intoxicating, never cloying, not boring, smells expensive, has quality, it fresh, yet warm, Oriental but not very, that’s why it’s unique.
Very linear, almost doesn’t change from start to finish yet lovable, can be worn all year long. Very versatile. A unique and weird scent. I love I though.

    Wet green hay + lavender.
Interesting. A man with the scent of “air” in his hair.

After dry down this is powdery and sweet. Not as masculine or fresh as the mint should make it be. Couldn’t smell the lavender. Overall I could get the hint of something mysterious behind the powdery sweet wall, yet I couldn’t put my finger on it.

I was so hoping for a wow with this fragrance. I searched and looked for it high and low. I received, as providence would have it, I had to go for an MOT, or (WOF), where every year the women at the reception desks, always comment about my fragrance. I hade just received this fragrance and applied about 10 sprits, of it. The place is 7 mins drive.
The reaction was wow for once your not wearing fragrance! I think this is the biggest waste of money ever. I don’t know how it gets such postcode reviews. This is totally like getting £40 and flushing it down the toilet! What a waste of money!

Spicy fragrance for this man: Early 50’s, 6’1″ weighing 170 pounds with greying temples. Prefers dark grey or navy suits (slim fit),starched white shirt with spread collar. Black oxford shoes and black socks that are just under knee length. Works in banking, insurance or some other financial services organization. Guys on the wild side need not apply….

SORRY but I will be ordering this blind and make myself like it LOL. I see it’s being compared to Jil Sander Man and I’m Jil Sander’s bitch!! That was the game changer! Also I’m tired of being depressed I can’t find miracle so Hypnose it is! Review coming soon!

I smelled this year’s ago but don’t remember how it smelled because I was smelling a hundred other colognes at the same time. I am a huge Miracle Homme men’s fan ( and also women’s version and hypnose women shhhh hehee;) so we will see.

This one is good for nighttime and not for a casual day time, at least for me. Longevity and sillage are very good even on a hot climate. Still this one is best suit to use indoor and not outdoor.

  16. :

    4 out of 5

it’s not typical spicy fragrance, it has the distinguished Lancome’s DNA. easy to wear casual and formal I prefer to wear it at night, I get the cardamom and lavender. I wear it in fall and early winter longevity is not as I expected but not bad, inoffensive and unique.

  17. :

    5 out of 5

It starts very nicely with quite alot of lavender, mint, cardamom and amber.
After a while it focuses mostly on amber and lavender. It is very nice, but I don’t think that it is amazing since I think that there is something in it that feels a bit too synthetic… I like it and think that it smells good, but I dont think that it is exciting enough.

I’ve owned Hypnose back in the days when I was just starting out wearing fragrances and it has a modern, yet mysterious and classy character.
The blend is very well done, a bit fresh at first (nice mint) but it settles nicely into a balanced spicy amber with just a bit of sweetness.
A very interesting fragrance and quite unique these days.

  19. :

This one reminds me of Chanel Bleu, without the powdery notes, which in my dictionary translates to mainstream generic perfume.
Although citrus notes have been graded as low by many, this is what I can mostly smell at the beginning. The mint is noticeable and patchouli is hiding behind it, giving an earthy grassy feel to it. It is sweet too and I think its the amber and white musk notes.
It is safe to wear to the office, non-offensive, and nice.
It is good if you want a safe perfume, but I don’t see it as a signature scent.

Smelled it first time in 2011 and that second knew i need to have it. Still have half of that bottle as it is an occasion fragrance for me.
It is an undeniable chypre for men. For me, though it is not listed in the notes, its a beutiful white rose with lots of mint and bergamot. I think the rose effect for me comes from lavender and the mandarin.
I know it is discontinued so when i will finish my bottle i will miss it very much.
    Excellent longevity on my skin.
    Moderate projection and silage
After 7 hours still able to smell it from myself.

from the cap it smells like Michael Kors (for women) but once sprayed it’s a different scent. don’t take my words for it because I really wasn’t paying attention but it definitely has jasmin in it.

  23. :

    First time wearing it.
Refined, discreet, easy to wear, office friendly, overpriced, but has the Lancôme class, maybe I won’t by it again, I rather get another bottle of Miracle for man.
I read about the poor longevity around here, and I guess that’s true, it’s been barely two hours I put it on and I can’t barely smell it in my wrists. 🙁

    One Night Stand Fragrance!
I belive that, most of the Lancome Hypnose owners bought this fragrance because of its gorgeous opening. It has great top notes with some sweetness in it. However, things are not going well for the heart and base parts of this.
In my opinion, LH is an elegant frag for 20-30 years old people for colder seasons, who prefer nice cut suits. Not only jeans and hoody guys, but also someone who is in his late 30s should avoid LH.
Opening is gorgeous. Women loves this part of the frag and it is impossible to over apply it. You get the whole attention of the opposite gender in the event with the 5-6 sprays. Put this amazingly designed bottle in your car and apply before you join any kind of social environment. However, you need to know that, this gonna lasts only 1 or 1.5 hours, then frag looses its best part and becomes a heavy lavender skin scent with close range sillage. Longevity is max 6 hours on skin, 10 hours on clothes.
If you want to attract women, this will probably do the job.
If you are a frag gig, this is not gonna be sth that you are gonna turn into again.
    Overall: 7.5/10

One of my husbands favourites. Whenever he hugs and kisses me, he leaves me with a divine jasmine cloud. I keep smelling him over an hour! Makes me wanna grab my ‘Mon Jasmine Noir’ and spray, spray, spray. The odd thing is that jasmine isn’t even listed in the notes for Hypnose! Absolute LOVE this fragrance.

  27. :

    3 out of 5

Light, delicate, decent, elegant, sweet but in a very different and ambery way and not like something you could eat. Performance is poor as projection is at an arms length for 1 hour and then stays close to the skin for about 6 hours. Would have been a winner for me if it performed better but it’s good for work, office settings and only those who come close to you will get to smell this. The amber made it feel similar to Dior sauvage but that can also be because I tested the two together.

This has always been one of my favorites. Believe it or not, in my early 20’s I wore this all the time. My dad loved it too and I purchased this for him before he passed away. Twice actually, after he went through an entire bottle (which was unheard of for him). This one will always hold a special place for me because of that, but I hadn’t worn it again since he passed until recently.
What can I say? It still smells amazing after years of sitting on the shelf untouched. There are many other scents that I’d place in the same scent category as this one, but none that I’ve smelled are quite like this, nor are they quite as strong (unobtrusively) or long lasting.
Upon initial spray, you may be greeted by a “pencil shavings” note, however once it dries, you’re left with a beautiful sweet amber and cardamom, supported quite nicely by the lavender and mint.
Every time I smell this, it reminds me of being overworked in my early 20’s, time spent with my dad before he passed, and an unusually mature “clubbing” scent choice that used to be my favorite. This one’s hard for me to wear these days, but I definitely recommend it.

Hypnose Homme is an ok frag. It doesn’t blow me away in how it performs. The frag does not change too much on my skin (pretty linear). The dry down is less intense after 1-2 hours but the same amber with musky undertones are still there. It does project pretty well and have decent longevity.
I would wear this more in the fall (day or night), cooler days mainly because it is pretty aggressive. Personally I wouldn’t wear it to the club just because it doesn’t change much throughout the day/night.
**For me to wear a frag to the club, the frag has to be slightly aggressive and be amazing!**
    Overall: 7/10
    Longevity: 7/10
    Sillage: 8/10
    Agressiveness: 8/10

Am I the only one that smells a soft orange blossom/neroli combo? Hypnose homme reminds me of a soft, very safe version of Reflection Homme. Where reflection dares to stand out with some prominent notes, Hypnose settles into a blurry, blunt somewhat sweet accord.
Not bad, just not special as well.

dominant notes are bergamot, amber, lavender and cardamom. simple compositions but amazing longevity. i heard it was discontinue but i got this perfume last year at the unpopular store in JB. not many people knowing this perfume and definitely unpopular as Chanel Allure Homme and Dior Homme first version. now people start to find this perfume at the Lancome store unfortunately not available.

This is a really well done fragrance for men from Lancome! I am surprised how much I like this, it projects well but has a nice dry down and stays close to the skin. It’s masculine, but complex. Very good!

    Woa… lol… ok there.
Well… this just isn’t for me. Maybe it’s my skin chemistry, although on clothes I don’t like it more.
It is just loud, brute, offensive to me. It seems to try to be suave and smooth and elegant, yet ends up seeming like a perfume trying hard to be something it cannot become.
Sort of like an experienced perfumer who has the potential of making something nice, yet who gets so hammered and sleep deprived that his senses play tricks on him and he ends up making a product where people think he is either playing a joke or his senses were seriously altered by something.
If there is any hypnosis to this, it is a nasty, nightmarish hypnosis.

    The 100 Days Challenge – Day 8
Pleasant and simple. A scent for the orthodox, anti-metrosexual, good ol’ masculine man. Not modern nor dated. Just warm spices and lavender to provide appeal and cosiness. Not an attention seeker, and not super hypnotic, but secure and most of all enjoyable. A safe hypnotherapy.

Nice, warm and a little spicy. Light, but lasts quite well.

Very strong candidate for Olympic gold medal in 2 categories: best looking bottle, and best smelling… hair spray?
At least on my skin it has that noticeable component of “hair smell”. And although much less, I still can smell it when spray on paper. I think it could be one of those perfumes that widely varies how it smell depending on how it interact with wearer’s skin. It does smell VERY different on my skin and on paper at every stage.
It also doesn’t have best longevity or silage. Lasts 3-5 hours on my skin, depending on weather.
I can’t say I don’t like it, but I also can’t tell that I like it, and definitely not in “I love it” category. Now, if we take into consideration it’s price, it definitely would go into “skip it” category.

  41. :

Citrusy lavender start. A bit later nicer as the fresh spiciness comes through. It’s not at all what I expected from the name and the bottle, both of which promise something dark, perhaps sweet, intoxicating, complicated. What I get is quite light, fresh, a bit spicy, lots of lavender. It reminds me a bit of Eternity for men in its citrusy opening, the lavender and light spices. Again in spite of the image, for me it would be a sort of office scent. I like lavender, but I can’t help feeling there’s something unpleasant mixed up with it, spoiling it. There’s a review by Colin Maillard that describes a metallic note, and this also hits home with me. It’s a good description.
What’s it like? Like meeting a new colleague at work, looks nice, says nice things, but there’s just something that repels me from him, and I can’t say what it is.
A few hours ago making notes I wrote: “quite pleasant as it goes, but not for me”. Actually, now, after a second try, if I’m brutally honest, I don’t like it. Sorry to those who do.

Hypnose for me is a very classy and seductive fragrance, that while reminding me a little of Dior Homme, is different enough to warrant owning both.
A solid ‘date night’ type fragrance that women love.

Hypnôse Homme is one of two fragrances that are top shelf for me.
Instant gratification couched in spiciness. It’s a delicious fragrance and gets positive remarks from a variety of people, male & female, young & younger whenever I where it.

Smooth, clean and spicy fresh. Perfect for a Spring / Summer’s Day, and definitely one of my favourite ‘off the beaten track’ scents for men. You could but the White Lacoste bottle, but then you’d be doing yourself a disservice, because this is better in every way possible. I love the fresh opening accord, which stays strong long; backed by the lavender and amber (with light musk) upon dry-down. I’m a fan, and I want it.

  45. :

This has a niche like quality to it. I have been wearing it for years and it always gets compliments. A wonderful choice for spring/fall. It might be too subtle for harsh winters but perfect if your winters are fairly warm. The light spices blended perfectly with the amber giving it a gourmand feel but more on a discreet level. Good for office and women can wear it as well.

  46. :

    5 out of 5

It opens with a fresh note of mint and citrus properly blended with lavender and cardamom. I’d like it was more intense. However it’s a good choice for those seeking a refined and discreet scent.

This is definitely an old school fragrance in a good way. Very masculine scent, woody and musky, not very sweet which I like. Reminds me of Canali for men which is discontinued. Average silage and good longevity. I think if you are 30+ you can wear this anywhere and you will get compliments.

It was the bottle that grabbed my attention first. A strong statement and definitely masculine in shape and size. As for the fragrance, again, both masculine and strong. Bought it instantly for my husband who liked it too.
It is somewhat old world, like the 80’s and has that lasting power of something like Aramis. A mans scent amid the frequent metrosexual absudtities often found today.

My short review: This is a great fragrance.
My more detailed review: First impressions of this fragrance were: Oh… This is an old man’s cologne. It certainly is not, but, as a youngster, I had an older relative who had a liking for cardamom in scents. This made me think of him.
The more I wear this scent, the more I appreciate it. Most of the individual notes can be detected in Hypnose, something I am not usually very good at! I have decided that I really, really enjoy lavender in perfumes. And I am now more appreciative of cardamom – not the old man smell I once thought! The mint freshens it up without making it smell like toothpaste or a polo mint. And finally the amber and patchouli leave a slightly sweet base that I can’t stop sniffing!
Longevity and projection are good, and I think Hypnose is best suited to nighttime wear. Overall, although you do not get a unique fragrance that will stand out, what you do get is a solid, charming fragrance suitable for date nights, nights out, etc. Plus, you can pick this up for a relatively low price, making Hypnose a solid purchase and the reason for my ‘short review’ above.
EDIT: I have been wearing Hypnose for several months now and I have yet to come across anybody that dislikes it. Compliments aplenty! I have now checked out several of Maurice Roucel’s fragrances and I must say I am a huge fan! This, however, particularly stands out… Well done, Maurice.

I’ll be straight up about this review…I never would of considered this fragrance from Lancome because there not known for fragrance not like Chanel, YSL, Dior and many others….
Now about Hypnôse, I enjoy the opening notes of amber and cardamom giving it a deep warm/spicy aroma. After it settles this fragrance has an overall sweet creamy aroma from patchouli and musk. A hint of herbal aromatic scent from lavender and a cool underlying tone of mint barely noticeable.
Longevity and Silage is better than moderate lasting over 6hrs. .
    Finally thoughts,
This juice is excellent during the late fall /winter months especially when it’s works against the warmth of your skin which is like pheromones giving pleasure to those women who love the deep sweet/warm aroma on a man.
Guy’s if the women in your life enjoys this frag then give it a try and you might enjoy it just as much or more.
I do enjoy the base notes coming together beautifully making it very luxurious and soft without it being too feminine. Rating this juice is definitely 7.5/10…I do know why some reviews have giving it a low rating…my guess is that it didn’t work well with their body chemistry..it’s important you try it before buying this GEM!!!

I received my first Lancome perfume as a gift in uni, since then I have always been impressed by the quality of Lancome frags. I have to admit I have very little idea about male frags, but Hypnose and La Nuit de l`Homme YSL are my favorite male frags so far.
I was trying to find a nice X’mas gift for a friend of mine. There were just so many nice male fragrances in the stores, I could not find anything to match my friend’s personality until this one grabbed my attention. The packaging was well designed and the smell stood out immediately from the moment I sprayed it on the paper. It smelt warm, spicy and youthful. The friendly sales assistant kindly offered to test it on his skin for me. It smelt just divine and sophisticated. So I got a 50ml bottle for my friend then and there.
It was nicely wrapped in Lancome paper and ribbon, which looked really nice. When my friend was unwrapping it in front of me, I could see his face lightened up. He sprayed it on his wrist, then he told me that it smelt great and he really likes the bottle as well which looked just beautiful and perfect.
ps. my friend is in his late 20s. He’s kind and smart.
It’s such a nice feeling to get lovely gifts for family and friends during X’mas. I truly enjoy the opportunity to be generous and to make ppl around me happy during this season 🙂

So after reading a couple of reviews and after being sold by “The frag guru” Marc on Youtube, I finally got my hands on this gem. I must say when I first tried it out on my wrist, I was major worried with its performance as am used to powerhouses but after a while I kind of got carried away by the scent itself… its amazing and for some strange reason I initially thought it smelled like tuned down Joop homme with a dash of fresh pencil shavings. Today is my first full wear and boy oh boy, Marc was soooooo right and am sooooo enjoying the cardamon in it, not only does it smell sophisticated in an expensive complex way but its just one of those fragrance that just linger on and on and on…. I must say its like the quiet Royce Rolls driving down a quiet country road, blending in with its surrounding… unlike having a loud Lamborghini tearing the country road apart.
UPDATE: This frag reminds me so much of Carolina Herrera’s CH Men without the leather.

I can see hypnose as a date fragrance. It is nice, well blended and natural, but perhaps not for everyone.
The start is a little too sweet for me, but that is just me. I got complimented on the morning sub, so no worries if you like three teaspoons of sugar in your tea.
The sweet fruity opening is orange, mandarin and grapefruit with a hint of mint and a lot of sugar. The result reminds me of a dessert made of warmed apricots.
Then the fragrance suprisingly turns very much towards Orange Star by Tauer. Hypnose is less “sticky” and therefore “better” to my nose, but perhaps a little less mysterious. No strange radiance lurking underneath.
No individual note stand out in the mid and base. All is blended nicely together.
Quite strong sillage and longevity on me.

This is one of those rarest of fragrances that I could truthfully describe as (almost) unspeakably beautiful. When I use this, I always spray on my wrist too: I just cant stop sniffing it.
The scent pyramid and classification as an oriental fougere is accurate and fair: it all revolves around the cardamom/lavender/patchouli axis. The almond note is very interesting. But there seems so much more about Hypnôse: a depth that isn’t immediately definable. For instance, I can sense notes of mossy tree bark and birch leaf – and they’re not cited in the ingredients at all.
There are no “challenging” phases or transformations. The projection is perfect. I don’t agree with fumigating everyone at five feet and beyond. My only (very considered) criticism: longevity. It isn’t bad. But if this facet was better, this scent would be peerless. Makes me consider how every day you don’t wear a scent like this is a day your pleasure is lost forever. It is that exquisite.
I deliberately wear it selectively hoping never to lose the elation reaching for it gives me – a risk that goes with overusing any fragrance. I could, were it possible, choose to wear this on my last day – to have this fragrance with me as I pass from this world to the next. A small comfort whilst in purgatory. Can one speak more highly of anything?

This is a very nice fragrance. The opening screams mint and lavender and the dry down is very spicy. Perfect for the office since it is not offensive. The bottle is very nice but I wish it would come in a 3.4 oz. size.

I get a sweet frutiy scent. The sweetness bothered me a bit actually. Unisex on the masculine side. Versatile and daytime non-offensive. Very nice bottle. Seems that it lasts 8+ hours. I don’t think it projects much.
Reading the reviews they are vastly different – leads me to believe this one is highly dependent on the skin and nose of the wearer.
I like it but don’t see myself wearing it much as it felt too cloying.

Can I say this without sounding patronising. I can see that there has been a massive amount of thought and care put into everything, the packaging is stunning, it’s nicer then any other fragrance I own. It is like opening up something really special. The bottle itself again is gorgeous, I love it, so masculine and lovely to handle. Now for the fragrance, while I can’t say it’s amazing, it is very solid, inoffensively spicy and woody. It contains pachouli, one of my favourite elements. I can’t see anyone going crazy for it, but it is a really nice smell, will stick with it as an occasional fragrance, until they decide to give it the boot as they did with men’s Miracle, sad times!!!!

First day with it and it is nice. Even first day, I got 3 complement about this cologne. It has a unique smell, however after 2 hours, it was reminding me little bit of Dior Fahrenheit but this is just my though.
Longevity is very nice on my skin. Some people say it has really short longevity but until 4th hours I was still getting the smell from myself, 8 hours later I though it was gone but I got my 3rd complement after 8 hours. So it keeps up with you around 6-8 hours. Also I see that again if you don’t get the smell, it doesn’t mean cologne gone away, still would be with you as it happen today.

This for me is a deeply sensual, sexy fragrance.
A friend of mine recently told me he liked YSL La nuit de L’Homme and it was his lady killing, go to signiture scent. I was thinking of fragrances he may like, considering he loved that so much and this one sprung immediately to mind as a recommendation.
Hypnose automatically makes me think of a ‘date’ fragrance something of the ilk of YSL or D&G The One.
Despite never owning a bottle until now I got samples when it came out and subsequently tried it a few times since and was always of the same opinion..it’s good, classy, unique juice.
Then when I came to purchase it about 12 months ago I couldn’t find it anywhere…every Lancome counter I tried didn’t have it. Then at Christmas I saw it reduced in a bargain bucket but unfortunately didn’t have my wallet so returned later in the day and it had been sold!
I figured I was destined not to own this one but to my surprise I found it very cheaply in a perfume shop with a massive selection of rare fragrances.
So the major thing with Hypnose for me is the unmissable cardamom note spicy and aromatic with a touch of lavender and a lush kinda creamy base of amber and patchouli. This is not everyone’s idea of a great fragrance but to me it’s refined and beautiful, warm and spicy smooth but slightly rough.
I had to have it for the collection and what a great bottle one of the most original designs out there.

    Mmmmmmm… Seductive & Oriental
If I compare the opening stage with the dry down of this one, it’s hard to believe that it’s one and the same fragrance.
I love the fresh opening with the bergamot and mandarine with a touch of mint.
Soon the cardamom comes to the surface releasing it’s aromatic, spicy aspects.
As it dries down I would say there has to be vanilla/tonka, and/or benzoin in the basenotes, because it gets kinda warm and sweet on my skin. But since these are not part of the composition I assume that it’s the almond and amber creating this aura on my skin.
Sillage is soft but noticeable and longevity moderate.
    ♥♥♥♥♥

Smells good at the beginning but as it dries down you get like a soapy smell.
