Description

A gourmand fragrance mixed of edible and earthy aromas portraits a really hungry hippie. It is imagined to be a dark chocolate marihuana brownie, sprinkled with cassis on a background of earthy patchouli.

It is available as perfume oil in a 8 ml bottle with a glass applicator stick. The nose behind this fragrance is Brent Leonesio.

Smells like a burnt sugary cinnamon with a bit of a chocolate syrup added to the scent, it’d work best in cooler climates from how warm and sweet it is. It is a pretty clingy fragrance which is probably its biggest perk for me.
No idea where are you all getting the weedy patchouli part though. I’m very familiar with both pot and patchouli but I dont get either of these from this whatsoever. I’m pretty crazy for patchouli so I thought this would be a really nice scent complimenting the muskiness of patchouli but I’ve been mistaken. I don’t hate it, but this reminds me too much of a run of the mill old lady’s perfume, just overwhelming and sweet. Not even sure if I can even recommend this if you like gourmet scents really. Perhaps with some reformulation this could actually be a great scent.

Utter rubbish by Smell Bent, again I have to say, sorry.
Let me justify: this is half a scent!!
The thing that peeves me off more than putting gasoline or burning leather, green, oud-beaver must notes in Niche scents is a half-finished scent.
It’s pretentious, cheap and even to the point of being cowardly.
Not to mention, at least 1 saving grace could be the actual scent itself, but it’s just the usual SB ‘bare minimalism’ indie oil notes.
The scent is akin to acid, literal real acid. It goes on 1st spray to assault and actually burn the nose, the stinging, harsh green of the patchouli is that overbearing. No chocolate, just a nuclear clod of green with a drowning faint puddle of dying amber in there, somewhere.
I mean, I guess the amber I can detect while trying to wear one of those dustmasks at least is of high quality. So that is 1 reprieve from total burnout disaster. But the blend?
It doesn’t even develop properly, not that that would save it from my review as I am very top-heavy mass-appeal lover. So yes, no chance for this 1.
I’d forgive if it was just a side-effect and tradeoff for using the essential oils in such a crude fashion but then how does Slumberhouse do it so much better, rivaling the very best Houses for Quality while producing rounded, ‘complete’ scents that need no essential layering?
Sorry for my burning review but I don’t take scents that take half-measures.
Layering is something that should be released at a heavy discount; most of these aren’t and are not specified for layering

I tried this because I was curious about how a cannabis perfume would smell, and that was the reason I got this. I haven’t tried any other perfumes in this category, however I’m very familiar with the different smells of cannabis. This is not even remotely cannabis like, so if that’s what you’re looking for, keep looking. If I were to create my own cannabis scent, I would use a small amount of patchouli, oakmoss as well as lavender, maybe hay, tea, tobacco, pine, maybe oregano for the green herbal part, maybe a tiny bit civet, musk or cummin for the animalic, sweaty feel.
It starts with a very distinct, strong, inky green note. I don’t particularly care for the opening. Luckily it soon after morphs into a powerful cinnamon, reminiscent of Ambre Narguile and Paris LA. About an hour later, the patchouli is the most prominent note and stays patchouli-cinnamon. You know Angel? This is the type of patchouli. The chocolate is merely a facet of the patchouli in this, and not a main player or candy like. This is a very long lasting and potent perfume, and would probably not be someone’s go to for daily wear. It’s charming and lovely as it is.

TBH I don’t smell any marijuana in here lol but it does smell amazing and like very dark earthy chocolate and patchouli. Definitely unisex.
    Also cinnamon i think.

I thought I knew what I was getting into with this, as I’ve tried many other cocoa/chocolate patchouli things as well as quite a few “pot” fragrances. LIDGE, Coze, Mountain High, Boccanera, Kokoriko, Pardon. I was shocked when I actually first smelled HHH. I was expecting pot brownies, what I got was gooey pot brownie batter sprinkled with cinnamon powder and with a slight touch of airy, herbal mint. The opening is more complex and distinct than I expected, and I’m quite smitten with it.
As it dries down the herbal bitterness of the pot and the freshness wears off and it becomes a dusty, slightly sweetened earthy patchouli that is smooth and pleasant, not annoying (mountain high from the same line leaned a bit too heavy on the patchouli in the drydown for me, here its dialed in just right). Totally pleasant fun little fragrance, and a serious deal considering how monumentally well this performs. Considering the price I would say this is essential for any gourmand fan. I am not even a fan of gourmands myself, but here it hits that sweet spot that they do on occasion where they have enough unsweetened and bitter elements (aomassai and coze come to mind) to come across as a seductive spicy sweet body fragrance instead of just something candied and obnoxious.

Earthy powdery patchouli delight! Very appetizing with this type of chocolate on board. Definitely a more food like chocolate vs your run of the mill chocolate that you’d find in other fragrances. This gets me in the mood for fall and everything that comes with it especially when it comes to baking.

I hate comparing scents, but the mind likes to make comparisons and categorise. This is like an incomplete Noir de Noir. Totally earthy, sweet, chocolatey and deep. Patchouli bomb extraordinaire. I think this is like a wicked treat, something not to wear every day, but when in the mood as it is very powerful. I like it a lot, but I find this to be an appetite suppressant rather than munch inducing because of the sweetness. Like other indie/niche houses a very raw feel, but interesting to smell and test.

It opens with a blast of fudgey, gooey, not-quite-done-yet brownie right after you open the oven to peek in. It’s rich, and all chocolately, and then as it settles the cannabis peeks out almost shyly, before becoming bolder yet still mellow as it melds with the chocolate and cassius. The cinnamon is almost nonexistent on me, but I’m not complaining because it still smells delicious. The drydown is where the patchouli comes out, and while the cannabis takes a backseat to the chocolate and patchouli it is still lingering in the background, like something naughty.

Ok, it is unlike me to be quite so rash, I like to wear a perfume several times before I try to review it, or at least have a full days wear or extensive sampling etc.
Possibly the first time ever I have been compelled to come and write something within the first few minutes of spraying.
That said, this had a very sudden and shockingly intense impact on me when I applied. So here I am.
I have been ill lately. Really ill. I have not had an appetite, can barely eat.I sprayed this on, grabbed at random from my samples as I felt like trying something new. Sprayed onto arm. Seconds later OH MY GOD I WANT TO EAT MY OWN ARM!!! I stopped to look at what the perfume was – Hungry Hungry Hippies! Fair enough, I am not really a hippy but maybe this has given me the munchies as all I can visualize is chocolate brownies…Literally my stomach is rumbling! Never had such a reaction to a scent, not even a gourmand.
I will come back with a proper review once I have tried this properly.
What I can tell you is that other than wanting to eat my own arm (I found 2 chocolate biscuits in the barrel luckily, and managed to eat 1.5 of them!) this opens with a rich chocolatey slightly earthy and a hint of cannabis, over the first 5 or 10 minutes I am hallucinating chocolate brownies, and after that it begins to settle (I think) into a rich earthy patchouli chocolatey earthy mmmm. Is this stuff even legal?!! Will for sure test this one properly and do a serious review.

Just ordered the 50ml EDT spray. Thought it was only oil. It should arrive in a week or so.
Will let u guyz know what I think then.
    Update.
Imagine a chocolate muffin in the hot blazing sun. Like burnt chocolate cake.
Can be stuffy. People will notice, it’s just that they might think you work in a bakery.
It’s also linear but that’s not such a bad thing in this case.
somebody might end up biting you.

I really love this. At first I get strong smells of chocolate, which I wasn’t thrilled with…they’re pretty overpowering. But it dries down on me to a cinnamon-patchouli-cannabis blend that is intoxicating. I only wish the cinnamon was a little less strong and let the patchouli and cannabis shine.

This review is based on their sample. You have to like cannabis to like this. It’s heavy on that and cacao. I don’t get much patchouli though. It has above average projection and good longevity on my skin.

Very smoky in humid weather, I can only smell the cannabis with a very thin of cocoa and earth tones on the drydown. Good longevity and good sillage

The base for this smells like Chilli Vanilli to me. It has that same patchouli-vanilla-cinnamon groove. Add some rich, Dark chocolate and cassis on top and here you go! I really dig this one.

I found this to be a very sophisticated take on the scent of pot brownies and hippies. It’s very wearable for any patchouli-lover, and well constructed!!
On my skin, the opening notes were patchouli, chocolate, and an intense spiciness that smelled like cloves. Normally I don’t enjoy clove notes in perfumes, but here the note felt true-to-life rather than sharp and synthetic. The spiciness faded within fifteen minutes, where I began to detect a subtle cannabis note, while the chocolate and patchouli remained the center of attention. Hours later, the dry down was all smooth patchouli and dark chocolate. I didn’t detect any cassis, but it could be my skin chemistry or my nose!
I have to say patchouli is my favorite note and this is one of the smoothest patchouli scents I have tried, and the chocolate note is superb. Definitely, absolutely, undeniably full bottle worthy!!

Definitely an interesting creation that is pleasant enough during the drydown, especially the patchouli with a hint of vanilla. But the opening notes are not my favorite. Many claim notes of cannibis. While it is clearly green and leafy, I think one could wear this walking past a police dog and not alarm it.

One of THE best gourmands ever created! What this fragrance reminds me of is a cinnamon bagel covered with cream cheese (the kind you get at Panera) with some kind bud sprinkled over the top. I cannot express enough how delicious this is 🙂

Some of the Smell Bent compositions smell like fragrances for comics characters. They’re funny, colourful and not too serious. Hungry Hungry Hippies could be a scent worn by a character from Gilbert Shelton’s The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. It opens with a bizarre chocolate and cannabis combo where the former is leaning towards the cocoa and latter is a tremendously realistic and very resinous interpretation of the dried plant (yes, I smelled it). A strong “head shop” patchouli bends all together in such a bizarre, kinda gourmandic fragrance that’s delightfully funny and very nice. Reasonably priced.
Definitely something not to wear while flying back from Nepal or Morocco, unless you want to get stuck at the customs for a deep inspection.

Wow, I just began exploring the Smell Bent catalogue and this is a HIT for me. The first whiff is overwhelmingly earthy…it smells of a dreadlocked hippie who just smoked his third joint of the day. The drydown…the earth tones down…mmm, patchouli….and then some of the richest chocolate I have ever had the pleasure of smelling. The sillage is nice and long-lasting. I will absolutely buy this again.

Hungry Hungry Hippies starts with a burst of real dark chocolate smell, and soon gets some delicious cinnamon-y but not really cinnamon scent added in. It is potent, and delicious stuff with some earthy patchouli hint in the background; somehow it makes me think of Christmas time, fireplace, and a lot of sweet comfy food. The cannabis? I cannot smell much of it here; I would say…it smells like 1/10 the strength of a typical Space Cake you can get from Amsterdam, which doesn’t really smell much of the real cannabis. Yea, I agree with jonovon, it smells like slightly burnt brownie.
Later on, Hungry Hungry Hippies turns into something like the mild patchouli/ the transition phase of TM Angel’s start ‘armpit’ smell and the sweet, more developed typical Angel smell, mixed with a lot of dark chocolate. Somehow the dark chocolate gourmand factor really reminds me a lot of In Black by J.D P, and as time goes by, it just smells like In Black with a tiny tiny bit of smokey patchouli.
The dry down is like the middle phase plus a swirl of a really tamed version of the incense-y, smoky smell from Tabu, or Opium, which is actually quite charming, and much more elegant than the food-y aspect of Hungry Hungry Hippies.

DEEEEEEP dark chocolate and earthy patchouli – where Fresh “Cannabis Santal” wanted to go but didn’t dare!

Chocolate smells a little burnt, like a brownie left in the oven just a bit too long. Also it’s more of a powdered cocoa than a greasy one. I’d just love it to have a noticeable cannabis note. Well, the patchouli used here gives this scent a brute, artisanal feel that few scents around have. What you’ll get is chocolate and patchouli, and that’s it. This perfume is not exactly classy or elegant, but has that chic and cool found in simplicity.
I find Hungry Hungry Hippies to be in the same category of A*Men and Very Irrésistible (because of the gourmand aspect), but way less sweet and more earthy than both, and not as cloying as A*Men can be if overused. If you like these two scents by Mugler and Givenchy, you should definitely give Hungry Hungry Hippies a try. I myself prefer it over those two.
How do I apply the oil, knowing that I live in a perennial warm weather?
First I shake the bottle thoroughly, then I just dab one very little drop on my left wrist with the glass wand. Then I press my right wrist against the left one, then rub both wrists like behind the ear and on the chest, and the inside of the elbows. I find oil perfumes don’t lose quality with the rubbing.

The cannabis and chocolate both are very chemical but the earthy patchouli is right on.
