Description

There’s no place like a “Home Port”, which is why we chose it for the name for our flagship fragrance. The comfortable familiarity of the water that surrounds you, along with memories that cling to every sight and sound fills you with a deep sense of belonging. The natural beauty of our Home Port on Lake Ponchartrain’s North Shore in Louisiana comes from magnificent oak trees, enchanting stands of cypress, still black water bayous, swamps, and marshes.

Home Port soothes the soul with top notes of Lavender, Iris, Menthe, and Citrus, and base notes of Basil, Tobacco, Leather, Musk, and naturally, Oakmoss. After 15 years of living, sailing, playing, exploring, and enjoying our lifestyle here, this will always be our Home Port. The nose behind this fragrance is John Verde.

a very old-school fragrance.. great if you’re 80 or if you feel like 80.. I can’t imagine this on a younger man really..

I purchased this fragrance, and I like it. I agree with most of the reviews; it’s masculine, clean, and dries down to a comforting and warm base. On me, it has very good longevity and I think its sillage is fine. Cabo, Tobago and Zanzibar smell of exotic spices and flowers to my nose; in my imagination they fit perfectly the places they are named for, and are best suited for women and casual fall/winter wear in my opinion. Home Port is perfect if you are or when you want to feel like a grown-up, confident and uncomplicated men. I really like it, and I’m also looking forward to the next releases. I agree with user RomanianPsycho, good job for a start, Mr. Verde!

I believe this is the most masculine of the Yachtsman range. The evolution of the fragrance is predictable but in a good way. Fresh start, lavender and citrus, calming to reveal the strength and confidence of tobacco and woods. Someone said they would feel safe with the person who wears this and I totally agree. Perhaps it says the wearer is reliable and quietly self assured…no need to scream it from the rooftops. This person can rise to any occasion, and knows who they are. You cant go wrong with this.

When I first began to study fragrances, the olfactive families and notes I thought “aromatic fougere” meant “stuffy old man fragrance” many in this family have changed my opinion of this type of fragrance…Home Port is one of them.
When I recived my four Yachtsman fragrances Zanzibar was my initial favorite and I have held off trying this one since it was in the smaller size. When testing it on paper for the first time I thought: nice, manly, fresh and pretty much left it at that. On wearing it today…WOW!!
I wondered on looking at the notes…what(?)no heart notes…trust me, this fragrance is ALL heart! The citrus is quite fresh and the mint adds to this while contributing a unique green facet to the composition, while the masculine florals of woody lavender and powdery iris give it a gentle masculine strength. The drydown on this juice is exquisite combining the perrenial favorites of musk, moss, tobacco and leather while adding the sharp herbal accord of basil. It is as if Polo had a fling while on a beach vacation with a clean aquatic and had a love child who had all its fathers characteristics but was himself young, modern and all MAN.
    Sillage: great
    Longevity: above average
    Overall:4.25/5
Having quite a few aromatic fougere frags myself I thought as I read the reviews and articles of Yachtsman, do I really need another? I am so very glad I got this. It is another in a series of excellent creations by this house and resonates old fashioned charm with rugged manly appeal while having an underlying soft sweetness that is the perfect counterpoint to its overall masculine energy…YES,you do need this!

First sniff is spicy and the mint gives it a nice refreshing balance. When the base notes come out it becomes very masculine and traditional men’s perfume. It safe and comforting as a home port.

Home Port is a very masculine fragrance. On my skin it’s powdery bitter lavender – fresh and kind of a little heavy at the same time. The base is also very masculine with a bright note of tobacco and musk.
A man wearing Home Port is the one you feel safe with, being with whom makes you feel at home…

In reading that this was a fougere, I compared it with Worth pour Homme (what I consider to be an archetypal fougere). The opening notes – including the lavender and citrusses in Homeport are much more luscious than is usually the case with fougeres. There is no sharpness in this one. The sillage is not as great as Worth, Paco Rabanne or Azzaro pour Homme.
There is an accord I am trying to find the right words to describe, but the closest I can come up with is “bubblegum”. Not the sickly sweet modern bubblegum, rather the lightly flavoured old-fashioned musky pink bubblegum I used to have as a child.
The leather, tobacco and musk combination in the base notes is a winner.
This is the best of the 4 fragrances, in my opinion, and lasts quite well.

It’s a very soapy, masculine scent, where musk is the star of the show. It reminds me of a Spanish bath gel called Magno (but not the brown one, but the navy blue).
A single drop lasted four hours on my skin.

I don’t want to use the ‘typical’ word, but Home Port is very “traditional” i would say. This scent could have label with note “archetypical mens cologne”. If u think about men scent-it is it. Sharp and strong in the beginning (lavender and some mint mainly for me) and gentle fresh when its fade(tobbaco, basil). My Grandma who loved to use mens colognes would be crazy about it. I am sure:)!

Definitely the most masculine of the four; it is a pleasant fragrance that would smell wonderful on most men.
Unlike the other fragrances from this collection, Home Port is not edging or daring instead it is fresh and clean, and can almost be called a skin scent.
My 17 year old brother was very happy to receive a sample of this scent and said that he would wear it on his next date with his girlfriend.
(I also had him test the others: He loved Tobago and thought that Cabo was nice but he disliked Zanzibar)

Home Port, while masculine, is a scent that I would also recommend to the ladies. I certainly do not agree that only men can wear this fragrance.
The scent is reminiscent of some notable male scents on the market today. At this present time I am finding some similarities between this fragrance, Davidoff’s Cool Water and Gucci’s Envy for Men. Despite the fact that this fragrance isn’t particularly ‘new’, I am impressed all the same.
I am a recent lover of mint in fragrances. The mint in Home Port is very likable and distinguishable. Along with the lavendar and citrus notes, this fragrance opens with a rather peppery and warm aromatic quality.
With the introduction of the herbs and spices in the heart, Home Port takes on a rather exotic like feel. However, this isn’t an Indian bazaar, this fragrance is like a chef’s storage room, filled with glass bottles of spice and herbs.
The drydown is my favourite aspect of this fragrance. The leather and tobacco are manly and daring. A little like a bad-boy riding up to your house on his fast and flashy motorbike in the middle of the night, to steal you away.
Some may dislike the straight-forward smokey tobacco note, however I love it. Tobacco is one of my favourite smells. To me it’s sexy, to others it may be repulsive.
Home Port lasts relatively well, however the sillage becomes rather subtle the minute it reaches the drydown. Prior to the formation of the base notes, the scent was quite strong.
A lovely, pleasant and sensual Summer scent, for all ages and gender.

I agree with Jeca, it’s a very masculine fragrance. It starts with citric notes and after 5 minutes the notes of leather and tobacco start to appear but I can still smell the citrus notes along with them. I received this today as gift among the 25 contest winners and I am very happy to own it. I gave this to my father and hope to buying big bottles of all the four fragrances.

A fairly plain peppery lavender and vetiver blend, nothing ground breaking, but still nice. It’s very very light, must be applied in quantity (which you’ll NEVER Hear me say again, I think, as I hate people who over-apply their scent and make me taste it just by standing nearby)Still, nice, pleasant, clean. It’s the most masculine of the four new scents.

I loved the cool, breezy opening notes. This is perfect for a hot, humid day. And what lasting power! Eight hours later I could still smell it faintly. A good one to build a fragrance wardrobe around. “Home Port” is a great name because it’s the one you can always go back to.

Masculine and safe fougere. Light and very comforting, as the rest of fragrances. For my skin it’s too manly, but I think it might please men who seek fresh, masculine, light, modern&classy fragrance.
