Heritage Eau de Toilette Guerlain for men of Guerlain

Share:

Description

This masculine perfume bears the heritage of old values in revelation of the new age. It is addressed on man with a sense of style, elegant as well as traditional, presented as sharp woody and spicy fragrance.
Designed by Jean-Paul Guerlain in 1992, it greets you with fresh notes of bergamot, orange, aldehydes, green accords, lavender, lemon, petit grain, violet, clary sage and the gentle touch of nutmeg.
The middle notes of the perfume bring the explosion and richness of spices which interact with floral scents (pepper, coriander, orris root, along with rose, jasmine, carnation, honeysuckle, geranium and lily-of-the-valley).
The warmth of the woody notes is emphasized at the base by cedar, vetiver, patchouli, amber, tonka bean, oakmoss, sandalwood and powdery vanilla.
The elegant bottle, traditional and sheen, was created by Robert Granai, and can be bought as 50 and 100 ml edt, as well as the aftershave and shower collection.

    EDT review
This is a very nice citrus/floral scent combined with lots of sandalwood and a nice touch of patchouli. I used this first during summer and it smelled ok to my nose but not special however i did respect that the blend was done very well and high quality of the scent.
Tried it again for a wedding invitation in the cooler weather and now i am a big fan.
I started getting so many different notes, each time i caught a whiff i sensed something different i started to look around to check it wasn’t someone else.
    This smells very classy.
I would say its the most classic modern scent Guerlain do.
This scent is the one i would recommend any young man to buy for their first Guerlain scent if they are over 30.
Do not judge this scent straight away as it does start out smelling very mature and can easily put someone off. However it does a 360 in the drydown or once it settles and smells very modern and unique. The best part for me is the way violet is used in this scent where it pops up from nowehere shows it’s face and hides again. This scent is a work of art.
Lasting power is great i get an easy 6-8 hours and can even smell it faintly after 10 hours. Projects in a very mannered way unless you spray too much. I would use this scent for cooler eavening/day time when its below
    14 degrees Celsius.
Do not use this during the summer day time as it will be too much.
for me this is a top fragrance every man should try once in their life.
the only other guerlain i rate highly are Guerlain Homme EDP and L’homme Ideal EDT.

Hats off to previous reviewers and perfume connoisseurs! Heritage deserves this “Heritage” of estimators! I am one of them! One of the few fragrances where the sandal is well sedated by a perfect patchouli. Dry-Down similar to a human embrace (no joke): I feel enveloped in cedar, amber and coriander.

This has the same DNA as Versace L’homme, Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree, & Zino Davidoff. This is probably the best refined of the bunch, however it is probably the least overt in the projection & longevity department. Still worth owing however.

I had high expectations…and I liked the top notes. But the drydown is so dominated by cinnamon and carnation that this reminds me legitimately of Big Red chewing gum. I just can’t get past the bubble gum / chewing gum note on the base notes, so I could never buy a bottle of this.

one of the best release of the 90’s. i just love heritage, very manly, charmy, oldschool but not outdated. the composition is so well balanced, it opens fresh-fruity but immediately a special blend of spicies, floral notes, creamy woody notes with a soft touch of powdery vanilla arrive to hit your nose in a pleasant way. it’s criminally underrated, many fragrance collectors are mad about insense by givenchy but for me heritage is far more superior, more masculine and refined. a year ago a found 2 vintage golden cap bottles, so im happy to use it freely. i heard reform is good too.
better for 28 and up, for casual and formal situations but not for playful or sporty events, u can use heritage in any season, maybe not in the warm summer days. performance is good, nothing amazing but nothing to complain. un profumo da gentiluomini!

Just beautiful. It is masculine and very polished. Women really seem to love it.

    A pioneer in masculine perfumery!!
smooth Patchouli, a touch of rose, hint of sandalwood & dose of lavender when the latter gives the scent a barbershop vibe. I really started to dig this stuff, it is amazing and outstanding. As usual Guerlain doesn’t miss when it produces any perfume so far! Absolutely great quality and very complex scent yet easy to wear! that is the hard equation in the perfumery industry.
It has a lot of character, dark, ultra masculine & stays close to the skin on me. Héritage does not force itself into the place; it seductively whiffs your surroundings to come closer.

This is absolutely great quality and very complex it takes a few wearings to actually realize what’s going on. The opening is more balsamic and aldehydes but once it dries this beautiful woody accord comes out in the forefront and it is extremely unique and great + classic. Genius woody accord

Well SHIT ! I had an entire story typed and almost finished and then my internet app on my phone decided to Close and it’s gone.
Probably for the better, lol. Long story short I was in Vegas at the Guerlain boutique and sprayed about 6 fragrances all over my wrist and arms and feel in love with one of them, thought that I knew which one or was but had it wrong and bought the one that beleive it or not was the scrubber, like worst fragrance I’ve ever sprayed surprisingly. I am NOT manly or advanced enough in this fragrance journey to get past that sweaty pissy fecal smell of Derby. But Heritage I found out later was the one I fell in love with. Only problem is that they only had a tester of the Heritage EDT not the EDP. LUCKILY the lady at the store was kind enough to let me at least Exchange it for same value, so ended up getting 2 bottles of HHeitage and I made the mistake of choosing the EDP without smelling it, thinking that it would be a longer lasting but still similar smelling version of the EDT. WELL, I learned once again that that isnt always the case…
Dont get me wrong I like the EDP version but it’s definitely much deeper and smells more dense, I think what I liked so much about the EDT was that it was just a perfect blend of slightly sweet, slightly spicy from the cinnamon, lightly floral but just perfectly balanced the whole time, but it all leads to the most perfect subtle yet supple leather finish. For me being in my mid 30’s the EDT seemed more wearable and just more to my style. The EDP is still very nice bit it because of the extra depth it does feel a little more “mature” is the only way I can put it really. Maybe it has less of a leather component on the drydown and a touch more of the cinnamon and some civet or castoreum, and a touch more of the floral aspect ?
So long story still kind of long, I am keeping one bottle of the EDP but I still have 1 more sealed bottle if anyone would be interested in trading for the EDT version let me know…
    Cheers !

If you love Patchouli, Sandalwood, Cedar, Amber, and Lavender, this will be a gorgeous gift to your lovely self.
This is a very affordable fragrance that is rich, lush, and creamy. It’s definitely a Woody Oriental potion made in Heaven. This is a mature fragrance for anyone with a matured mind. Better worn seriously but again with confidence, you can rock casual as well. This is not the same but a vibe of chanel coromandel which happened to be one my best chanel fragrances; so you see Heritage is in good company.
Decent projection and decent longevity. Check it out if you want something unique, classic and sensual.

    (Vintage version)
Well, this isn’t an easy one to explain. It’s essentially an extremely rich, spicy, sweetened amber/patchouli fragrance. There are lots of florals which for me seem to get drowned out by the heavier notes. The overall effect is what you would come to expect if you’re familiar with Guerlain. It’s a high quality, mature but not dated scent for cooler days. A classic in my eyes, but not quite a masterpiece.

Beautiful. One of the nicest fragrances I’ve tried. Better still, it just gets better and better as it dries down. Definitely my next buy.
One of those fragrances you keep wanting to sniff.
To me, it’s very unique, bold, and sweet.
Annoyed at myself for not trying it sooner.

  17. :

Classic barbershop fragrance with amber as the focus, instead of green notes or lavender.
Understated, but not dark or elegant. You get a casual and everyday fragrance for the established man.
This fragrance is not sexy, inviting, aquatic,or modern really, but does not seem dated. I find this fragrance odd to place and in a limbo like VR Antidote.
Overall nice, but does not have enough personality or performance for my taste.
3 to 6 hours longevity fair to poor projection
Not unisex and Men younger than 30 should second guess buying this.
Sean Jean unforgivable or DG The one EDP would likely do you much better.

OMG just got my bottle today this smells exquisite.
I remember smelling this 2-3 times in supermarkets and in a garden centre I was trying to find the persons wearing this amazing scent but didn’t see who it was. For me it’s all about the sandalwood as it is my favourite note in fragrances and in Guarlian heritage is smells amazing with all the other notes combined.

@Oso thank you for your reference to CK Obsession. When I sampled Heritage it reminded me of a fragrance in my 250+ bottle collection but I couldn’t think of which fragrance. Although they don’t smell exactly alike, they are quite different actually, but there’s certainly a similar vibe between the two that cannot be denied.
As for Heritage, I only sampled it once so I won’t give my review until I had a full day wearing on different days and occasions. On first sniff, I liked it a lot. I would of purchased it on the spot but I’m trying to control my fragrance buying habit. Thus, I’ll sell one fragrance in my collection (or gift it) and then I’ll buy the Guerlain Heritage.

Purchased on a blind-buy and was initially disappointed because I did not smell the top, middle and base notes that were described. I came back a month later with no expectations and enjoyed it much more. The dry-down cuts through the sharpness. There are certainly some hints of CK Obsession, but this is more crisp and can be worn during the day as well as night.

Interesting that cinnamon isn’t listed as a note. At first impression I smell a cinnamon red hot candy mixed in milk. It smells delicious though…makes me wish there were a cinnamon red hot cereal. 🙂
Will update as I get more time with this scent.
I must be smelling something different than the rest of you. I don’t get a dark vibe from this at all. What I do get is a dusty, powdery cinnamon candy bowl vibe. I sold my bottle that I blind bought. I just couldn’t see myself wearing this often given all the other fragrances I have that I love.
I am a Guerlain fan and own 8 other Guerlain fragrances. I can see the quality here…I just don’t see myself wearing it.

Royal, Regal, Eternal- Heritage is THE litmus paper for the maturation of the new nose! Are you worthy of Guerlain Heritage? Have you walked the long distance on your fragrance journey from superficiality to the appreciation of eternal classics? If the answer to the above questions is a resounding “YES”, then Guerlain Heritage will gracefully usher you into the realm of timeless fragrances. Every time you spray Heritage you are wearing a member of the perfume “Hall of Fame”- do not forget it!
I have the privilege of owning a vintage bottle of Heritage (the one with the raised glass and the Guerlain logo at the front) and I must say that this is what royalty would smell like if it could be distilled in a bottle!

On my skin this gets very smokey. Must be the patchouli. Usally not a big fan of patchouli but this way I love it.
Take the raw smoke from pine tar, sand all the sharp edges off untill completely smooth, then rub it in with warm and soft amber until polished to a deep chique shine!
Has a lot of character, dark yet chique. Stays close to the skin on me.

This is truly a stunning fragrance! It emanates pure class and refinement and avoids all the pitfalls of trying to be contemporary and modern. It is a fairly new fragrance but in my mind it neither modern nor old. I would not call it vintage either; rather it transcends what we normally think of as ‘time’ it is the stuff of legends! Héritage will suit the boardroom just as well as the cocktail party. Héritage’s only requirement is that you try to match its class, at least in part, by wearing the appropriate attire to complement the scent. In other words not for jeans and t-shirt, but rather a dress clothes, suits and black/white tie events.
The first moments after spraying are rather warm, dry and powdery in a very refined way. Sober but enticing, gentle but still with a regal presence. Slight citrus with some lavender all woven into a fizzy upbeat experience. Then, enter the woods. Fantastic Cedar and Fir, but the Sandalwood really shines. A creamy, inviting and smooth Sandalwood that is accompanied by lovely spices and some floral notes. Once the dust settles, Amber and Musk joins in to make the ensemble complete.
Héritage does not elbow itself into the room; it seductively beckons your surroundings to come closer. It is not an alpha-male scent to attract attention; it confirms your self-confidence and adds a bit of allure. It will not overpower the retail scent-bombs in the nightclub; it will add mystique to your tête-à-tête at the upmarket cocktail bar. In short, Héritage is prestige, class and elegance all in one while keeping on the good side of inviting and comfortable.

Earlier today I sprayed this on the back of my hand in the store, and a few shots to the neck.
Smelled decent on the hand, if not a bit chaotic in the beginning, and seemed to dry down pretty quickly into a skin scent. Forgot about it and went on with the day.
Fast forward 6 hours and I am now surrounded by an incredible fresh patchouli/sandalwood aura from the neck sprays, and it’s kicking out pretty damn strong!
This scent is all about the dry down.
“Take my money” I believe is the expression.
(This was from the new bottle with the wooden cap).

Reminds me softly and smoothly of oldspice somehow. This is a classy oldschool amber fragrance that stays aromatic and a little bit spicy.
I got 4 hours and weak projection. A great Business Casual scent or Family get together scent, because it is a bit classy and calming.
For me personally the sweetness in the dry-down is soft, but annoying, which a weakness for many amber fragrances for me.
Not Bad, try it out if you are 20 plus, probably 25 plus.

    A timeless old school scent.
A scent that I’ve smelt many times from others around me growing up.
This is what a politician, royal or simply a gentleman would smell like.
It reminds me slightly of Tom Ford’s Anthracite, but where that is more the brutal-kind-of-no-prisoners-I’m-the-alpha-male-of-the-wolfpack-kind of scent, this is the gentleman, stepping elegantly to the side to let the ladies pass first.

Totally agree 100% with the review below we need more Sandalwood scents that smell like the drydown of heritage.

  33. :

    4 out of 5

People really should put whatever material it is- in drydown of Héritage, in a lot more things a lot more prominently. It’s just a very natural refined + subtle, woody hazy dry sandal wood accord. Like a cloud of really lucious – but dry, very fine sandal wood powder. It is just the base, it doesn’t even become noticeable until it’s been drying a good couple hours. The opening notes contrast so much, being balsamic, that it covers that base note for the entire opening. The balsamic note might be some benzyl benzoate.
    cool, also very unexpected

  34. :

    5 out of 5

This is pure class. It blurs the lines between modern and classic, and bridges the gap between old and young. It can be scruffy or smart as long as you’ve got the confidence, and seems to change with your mood. There’s a lot going on, but it’s never overwhelming. House of Guerlain at its very best.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

Heritage EDT is one of those strange scents to me that I didn’t entirely get at the beginning. My inexperienced nose kept on telling me that I was smelling something similar to Obsession for Men. Right now, I can see why I thought that but I definitely don’t think that any more.
It’s one of those scents that I can’t always enjoy because I don’t always feel like wearing it… yet I still love it on others, or on me if I can only smell it bit. To me, this is something you only ever apply with a light touch.
The flyspray quality that I mentioned in my now deleted (with shame) previous review is more than likely a strong mixture of clary sage, lavender and bergamot. All of these are common ingredients in fly spray in Australia, and probably elsewhere. This dries down after about 5 minutes of wearing and the lavender shines more independently and beautifully. Then, from the listed notes: rose, carnation, fir and pepper seem to be the most prominant notes, with the addition of sandalwood and I could swear that there’s something lightly aldehydic about this scent. It sparkles, not like No. 5 but there’s something effervescent… like orange cordial in lemonade. The dry down is a soft patchouli, cedar and, again, sandalwood.
A very classy fragrance, can’t really do better.
The EDP, however, is a whole other kettle of fish. Don’t really like that one.

This is another review, slightly different to the one I previously submitted.
It is one of the best smelling classic perfumes you will find, it is truly as someone said, a SYMPHONY OF NOTES,it tickles all good vibes you can think of or want.
So much recommended for a real , warm-hearted gentleman. Rock it with love.

  37. :

A fragrance with a foot in the old world and yet at the same time, modern masculinity in a bottle.
It opens with that fresh combination of bergamot and green notes, which is a whole fragrance in itself, but a few minutes later this morphs into masculine florals dominated by jasmine and rose. This has a true heart and that heart is soft and spicy at the same time. The fragrance itself plays like a symphony on the skin where you ride out all the dynamics of citrusy, spicy, floral, amber, powdery and finally, woody.
Again the spices work to sharpen any of the pillowy powder this might turn into, but it doesn’t end there. On my skin, just as I think i have reached the lovely settled base notes, a strong cedar and sandalwood combination shows itself.
For an edt i get great performance (8hrs), which is good for a Guerlain on my skin.
It has soft projection perfect for day or night in cooler months and shines as an office scent.
This one truly billows of the skin and displays all its wares.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

This fragrance is elegance and class in a bottle.
Doesn’t matter what I’m doing, when I’m wearing Guerlain Heritage I feel regal.
Heritage has a certain sensitivity which comes from the perfectly blended mixture of florals, sandalwood and patchouli.
It always garners compliments because it’s friendly, optimistic and welcoming, but there’s also something mysterious about it.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

A pillar in masculine perfumery. This, to me sums up the impeccable house of Guerlain. I own an older bottle with a gold cap. It’s woody, spicy, leathery and resinous. The drydown is absolutely stunning, with its sandalwood and vanilla under something slightly animalic. This is not a fragrance that can be imagined. You have either smelled it, or you haven’t. You either love it, or you don’t. This represents a time when perfume was done right, and serves as a reminder of what quality used to be, as opposed to the modern junk that occupies our department store shelves. A classic.
    10/10

    Pure class!
    Outstanding perfume!
    Extraordinary longevity and sillage!
Is it the best perfume I came across with? Probably!
    Worth every cent!
In every stage you get some strong scents that combine in perfect harmony. You get lavender, absentees and juniper in the top notes; patchouli, spices and geranium in the middle notes; sandalwood, amber and oakmoss in the base notes. Other scents in mind or intensity do contribute for the happy complexity and beauty of this totally masculine perfume.
Enough said! I will probably get a backup bottle ASAP just for my peace of mind.

  41. :

    4 out of 5

OK, I shall say this only once.
This is the most beautiful fragrance in the world (literally).
It is the most perfect composition of notes as far as my nose is concerned.
I couldn’t imagine to change anything not even a tiny bit to make it any better (and I always have that faulty habit to think about what would I do or modify to make a fragrance I like even better (for me))
So as far my taste is concerned this is made perfectly, it has timeless beauty and it is confident and alluring and it has a feeling of something good in it.
I mean good in way that it just smells to me like a good person, like someone who thinks about a world and people around, it just (for some reason) has that good person aspect to it.
Maybe because I think my dad is the best guy in the world and because this fragrance for some reason has that mature (although more like young dad vibe).
If I ever become father one day, I will wear this fragrance on that day, I would like to color that day with this fragrance and the name suits event as well (even though that probably will not be important at that moment)
I guess this is maybe weird review but it is the way I feel about Heritage 🙂

This has the feel of Tiffany for Men. Had a mini from the 90’s EDT and thought this is excellent. Just purchased a Silver Cap 100ml 2010 production. It’s better because it is brighter. 2003 Gold Cap production has a bigger plonk of oakmoss and is richer than 2010. Early 90’s is fabulous with the richness of Oakmoss galore.
This is up on my list of must haves. Wear it formal or casual as it’s elegant and not quite as dense as the Tiffany. It melts into my masculine skin. Thumb’s up!!
The EDP. Now you’re talking. Think holding closer to the skin, intimate, a halo around the whole of you. Golden oil, slightly darker, vaguely dusty.
Like them all, bigtime, however the 90’s Vintage EDP and EDT are so very Full
    Fat ButterCream scrumpdili-icous!

I stay with the Vintage, it’s old yes !! But it has charm, it radiates quality, its three well defined phases are not boring, the excellent duration (more than 6 hours), sensational projection (if I put more than two sprays expands to more than one meter), the essences are over Quality and are not watery and that potent and wonderful arrangement of amber with sandalwood and patchouli that is already detected since before entering the notes of heart seems to me the best of Guerlain.
In fact, I have a first edition (details in gold and wood effect cardboard box), and this, more like an Oriental pulling sumptuous and woody than a woody spice as it labels Fragantica.

To my nose, imagine a much smoother and more complex -yet more subdued- version of Creed’s Bois du Portugal, then add a bit of buttery smooth Patchouli, a touch of rose, and other thoughtfully considered notes to the mix. Very, very classy.

Recently bought a bottle of this classy perfume, on me its very creamy, I am surprised some people don’t see it like that, its almost buttery, which makes it a bit less masculine in my opinion.
Nice woody, fir, amber, and floral combination. The notes are too many to tell apart but this is what makes it a classic one. This also means that different people smell different notes too.
The wife doesn’t like it and says it smells of liquorice, but I like it and will still wear it, maybe use fewer spritz than I usually go for
It is not a teen perfume and I wouldn’t wear it with a T-shirt, afterall its classic and need to be in the mood for it

At some point in the near future I am going to give this a proper review since I have 2 bottles, one old in the original style bottle and another purchased this year.
I am interested in seeing if there is anything to the often discussed reformulations that so many fragrances are alleged to have been put through.
Overall the new bottle is a solid fragrance with excellent longevity.Spicy and masculine.
The real complaint with this brand is finding them anywhere .
Perhaps it is exclusive but it cannot be good for sales.I like to try before I buy so online fragrance shopping is not for me.

On my skin, it smells like the original formulation of Calvin Klein Obsession for men. For some reason, I get a smell of cinnamon from one of the notes
It is like a higher quality Obsession on my skin. I used to wear Obsession for years so it is nice that i get a scent that bring back memories

Amazing! This juice is warm, spicy, woodsy, fresh, and inviting!
Jean-Paul Guerlain hits another home run with Héritage!
It opens with citrus, aldehydes, and lavender, moves into a warm heart of cinnamon, pepper and florals, and dries down to sandalwood, creamy amber, patchouli, cedar, and oakmoss.
Awesome sillage and plenty of staying power, this stuff is potent and stands up nicely to cold weather. Warning: it has the power to fill up a room!
Masculine, elegant and smooth, this fragrance is a classic scent and perfect for fall, winter, and the warm spices make it especially nice for Christmas!
Thank you, Guerlain for this stunning offering!

The one thing I want to say about this, its the best Fir scent in the world. It smells of the piney, sap, resin from a Douglas Fir Christmas tree, blended with Lilly of the valley, and smooth sandalwood with a good blend of florals.
It is a great classic, along with fragrances like Bel Ami, Egoist, Derby and Equipage. It is the most piney of those classics, a great winter time, Christmas fragrance.

Not really a review, but I think it’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever smelled, absolutely lovely on either sex. I’m female & whenever I wear Heritage people always compliment & assume it’s a “ladies” perfume. It’s complex & full of little nuances that keep my nose interested, I never tire of smelling it. Anyway..maybe it’s “asexuality” is just the mark a truly fantastic fragrance though ! I love love Heritage – on anyone.

I own LIDG, LIDGE, HR, Habit Rouge l’eau, and even their new Homme Ideal (which is definitely taking a new direction) I’m just going to say Heritage is not my favorite of all those amazing scents. It sparkles but I wish the sandalwood was more creamy when expressed on my skin.

Guerlain’s Heritage, yes a trip down memory lane.
I definitely get the classic masculine spicy from this: Patchouli, Amber, Oakmoss, and the softening Lavender are prominent to me. But fairly hard to single out any note.
The current formulation does not perform as well as I would hope. Maybe 5 hours of longevity, but ironically huge projection in the first hour and then fading a bit or so.
This one smells masculine, smells great, and can be a signature scent.
