Description
With its large, elegant cream-colored flowers, frangipani or plumeria is one of the most beautiful tropical flowers. A perfume by Ormonde Jayne was dedicated to it.
Its composition is very feminine, with a wonderful development which includes many gorgeous components. Starting from sparkling lime, unforgettable linden blossom and magnolia, the fragrance opens its opulent floral heart. Intoxicating frangipani is joined by tuberose absolute and water lily. The beauty of these flowers is accentuated with fruity nuances of plum and oil of green orchid.
Velvety final notes with cedar, musk, amber and Madagascar vanilla accompany the flowers perfectly, softening their lushness and caressing the skin with their beauty.
The fragrance is available in eau de parfum or Made to Measure Parfum for which the customer selects the concentration, bath and body products and candles. Frangipani was launched in 2003. The nose behind this fragrance is Geza Schoen.

It might sound odd but I just discovered the flower of frangipani in vacation few weeks ago at a hotel in Greece where the outside patio of our room had wonderful frangipani trees in bloom. I was totally stunned by the beauty of the flowers and the whole week I kept smelling them every time I passed by. A lady from the hotel told me it’s jasmine but knowing jasmine I was very intrigued that the leaves could be jasmine. But from some short searches I discovered that those were frangipani trees, of which I’ve known only the fragrance or rather the interpretation of, until then. And from there started the second search as I had to have a fragrance that reproduces that wonderful sweet creamy and elegant fragrance. Now, Frangipani OJ is not really that, because the unparalleled creamyness and almost Madagascar vanilla note of the flower is diluted by the green lime notes and the (fresh, not indolic) jasmine and the lilies but overall it’s a perfume that evokes now in my mind my vacation in Greece amongst the wonderful fangipani trees and flowers on our terrase. Maybe I will find a more true to the flower frangipani fragrance later on, but for now this one is sunshine in a bottle and an extremelly well done one (PS: the OJ boutique in London on Old Bond’s Street customises the concentrations – their EDP comes standard in 30% oil concentration but in the boutique they can make on spot 40% and even 50%. I took mine in 40% as I found that 30% was a bit too light. But they don’t do it when you buy on the site).
Helenic – :
It’s lovely and creamy and tropical and intriguing but for the price and standard I hold this special line up to, it’s just not enough.
Galkalend – :
I grow hundreds of plumerias (frangipani’s) in my yard and consider myself a collector, and although each hybrid cultivar smells differently, I don’t detect any plumeria note here. This isn’t a surprise as I have sampled numerous perfumes and lotions bearing the plumeria name and haven’t found one yet that does resemble the classic ‘Celadine’ or the species ‘Singapore’ or any other hybrid. I think it is one of those flowers that is nearly impossible to replicate, which is why they fill my yard, but I will keep searching. I think that this is a pleasant white floral citrus fragrance in any case.

While this is divine, I just saved myself some money because it is very reminiscent of Louis Vuitton Apogee- which I already own and have grown to LOVE. OJ has just a tiny tiny bit more creaminess to it, while the LV remains a bit more bright and clean overall. You cannot go wrong either way. Beautiful bright watery floral(s) with a citrus ting.
Crobgrorp – :
This is one of my favorite white florals. It goes on strong with a realistic, mouth-puckeringly tart lime note. The florals are creamy, dewy, velvety and just a tad sweet. It does retreat rather quickly to a beautiful tropical floral that doesn’t overwhelm like some can. I brought it with me on my recent trip to Hawaii and after smelling actual frangipani, the OJ captures its qualities well. Highly recommend to white floral lovers.
Z.E.R.O – :
Incredibly exotic scent. Foreign citrus, tropical flowers, strange waters. This smells like what I imagine an island Pacific resort might, with the aroma of far off places. For me, the central notes are lime and linden blossom. The lime and linden are a brilliant combo by Geza Shoen. Their treatment in this composition is unusual bringing out the underlying beauty and strangeness of each one. Echos the lime used by island natives to do everything from preserve and season food, use in health remedies, to scent the air. All other notes on my skin are accents that rise and fall in ascendance. A touch a creamy plumeria here, a whiff of amber and vanilla there. Not what I was expecting with the name Frangipani, but as that is the name of a tropical flower, and it does have a micro hint of it in the accord . . .
Dumtuldet – :
I don’t know.. to me it has an off-putting fleshy milky note (apparently the real flower has a hint of that as well)
MiroLog – :
Its all about citrus and flower, but no frangipani, at least not the white creamy ones, maybe the pink frangipanis, the have a more sour smell. Its a very fresh smell mixed of all the flowers, i wonder why they call it frangipani, when its not a soli floral one. i sadly dont get any vanilla or sweetness. Not my cup of tea, sadly. May be a good spring perfume for mixed-floral lovers.
neemianny – :
Light citrusy, floral, tropical pleasure.
Goni666 – :
Beautiful white floral fragrance with a citrussy opening, a very true to life frangipani heart and a wonderful tuberose drydown, that manage to remain fresh and dewy (without being overly aquatic) all the way. Medium sillage and excellent longevity. A wonderfully soothing and uplifting summer perfume. Love.
trembovetchii – :
I think this is one of my favourites of the more feminine scents in the range. Unmistakeable frangi pani opening but its tamed by the lovely lime and linden blossom which lift it and prevent it becoming cloying. Magnolia and waterlily once again add further depth to the frangi pani, lime and linden blossom with are very much ephemeral top notes. This fragrance has greater longevity and richness which I think is care to the tuberose, orchid and amber. The downside with this fragrance is that my skin has as usual amped up the musk in this and spoiled it for me. Of the fruity florals this one has the greatest depth and longevity.
Simba1338 – :
Green, summery, sweet and refreshing. If you are looking for a good Frangipani fragrance, seek no further.
Hose – :
Agree with review below – fresh , summery, best mix of sweet (but not cloying) and citrus. Non obliging scent
wfa003Negeltzex – :
Pretty, summery and subtle.
The name’s a bit odd, since the focus seems to be more on the linden blossom than the frangipani to me, but I think by now we’re all used to perfume names suggesting a soliflore then being anything but.
It opens with a juicy burst of lime. So many citrus top notes seem to be based around orange or orange-y scents (like bergamont), so it’s a refreshing change to get some lime, since I very much enjoy the scent. It’s a very realistic lime, I’d be surprised if there was anything synthetic about it. It’s tangy and rich, like squeezing it into a glass on a hot day. It’s soon joined by the linden blossom, which is the star of the show throughout to me.
I’ve always found something ricey about linden blossom. I don’t know what it is, but whenever I smell it, I get the impression of a soft rice note on top of the honeyed fruit.
The florals take a while to appear – well over an hour. I was very wary about the tuberose note as it often elicits a very negative reaction from me, but I needn’t have worried. It’s there, but it’s so subtle that it’s not a bother at all.
The frangipani itself is light. It’s not the heady note we usually expect from this flower. It’s gently creamy and offers a lovely contrast with the tangy lime.
There’s a creamy, non-indolic jasmine too. The floral notes are blended together so well that small hints is really all you get of individual notes.
The very final stages offer a slightly woody amber. I never get musk.
The sillage on this is very soft, but the longevity is insane. 24 hours +.
Fb worthy for me. It’s a very thoughtfully put together perfume. Nothing overwhelms, everything either merges or contrasts seamlessly and it’s oh so feminine. Lovely.

I’m not a huge fan of this I realise as I’m just trying it out now. It’s very timid and shy and quiet. Not really the type of perfume I want for summer. To be honest I’ve tried most in the sampler box now and the only ones I like are Tolu and Ta’if. Many of the others smell very samey to me. I can see that it has a lot of fans though.
Wabclerebor – :
I really love this perfume for the summer, although I layer it over Lolita Lempicka Coral Flower. I love the smell of frangipani and Coral Flower was a bit too powdery for me, while OJ Frangipani was a bit too sharp and citrus-y. Layer them both and voila…the best frangipani and summer date-night scent I have ever smelled. OJ Frangipani is heavy on the lime at first whiff, and then on me the orchid, linden blossom, frangipani, and magnolia come through and turn the scent into a beautiful mix of tropical flowers. The heart doesn’t last quite as long as I would wish, but the longevity overall isn’t bad, even though I mostly smell amber and musk after the first couple of hours.

I had a similar experience as described by rschmidt65.. Minus the international shipping.
I really loved this & was so desperate for a full sized bottle. After a long wait, I realised my chance.. Everyone wanted to know if I had something in mind for a Christmas present.. I asked everyone if they would be happy to chip in together for this wonderful, expensive perfume that i Needed in my life.. They said yes.
Fast forward to Christmas day. Paper wrapping everywhere, kids going nuts, happily playing with their gifts. Time for the adults… Time for my, one, much wanted gift.
The Ormonde Jayne presentation is lovely. The gift box, the packing, the gorgeous perfume box.. Beautiful, heavy, classy bottle.. Lovely! A little spritz, so the givers could share & appreciate the joy their collective gift will bring to me.. & .. Instant headache! Why!!!???
I didn’t complain but I wanted to cry as I thanked everyone, whilst my head screamed at me. I’m sure that no one else in the room enjoyed it either… Not one ‘oh that’s nice’ comment.
I have tried 3 times since (would have tried more, just not keen on giving my self headaches!) Same result each time. I dont understand! I wont stop trying.. I figure, one day, I’ll try again and it will be fine.

I received on Friday some samples of O.J. perfumes. The first two I tried were Champaca and Frangipani.
For me, Frangipani started with a strong citrus note – lime is listed, but I could swear it is some grapefruit there – maybe it’s how my nose interpreted the bitterness of crushed leaves you talk about + the hesperidic opening.
After about 10 minutes – and still after an hour it is all about linden flower for me.
A few minutes before begun to sing the white flowers, it is an uplifting dewy garden feeling in it, full of just-opened jasmines, magnolias, gardenias, lilies, tuberose in no particular order- no one is dominating – smells are graciously intertwined, plus the verdant accord still present. And some musky undercurent .
And the plum… yesss, the plum.
It is a very complex and beautiful scent.
EDIT:
And it HAS longevity!
I sprayed it on my wrist friday at about 5 PM. I wrote the first part of the review at about 6 PM (Eastern European Hour 🙂 ) The drydown was very well noticeable at midnight when I went to sleep.
I woke up for some reason at 3 a clock in night and suddenly felt a very pleasant smell… I identified it being the Frangipani from my wrist! Transformed in a gorgeous creamy plum scent. It remembered me a bit to By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses certain stage of development.
The plummy drydown was still there at 9 AM this morning.
Very impressive perfume Ormonde Jayne Frangipani. I am seriously thinking to get a split or a bigger sample, something (no budget now for a FB)
It is a perfect perfume for mood lifting in these dark-cloudy-rainy-foggy-damp-cold days…
blv092speagoessenda – :
I love this perfume. When I first smelled this scent I was immediately wrapped in white silk and surrounded by creamy, buttery white flowers. That is until I smelled Carnal Flower…then I had to rethink OJ’s Frangipani. I now think its sharper with the top notes of lime…but still right after that are those wonderful white flowers. Its like you put your face into a soft bouquet of them.

This was my favourite out of all the Ormonde Jayne sampler that I bought about a year ago. Well I finally bought a bottle, even sprang for hazardous material shipping across the Atlantic, only to discover that what’s in the full bottle gives me a full on sneezing fit and had to be washed off which has never happened with any perfume before and certainly not the Frangipani sample that I fell in love with. It still smells good but absolutely not wearable by me. I’m heartbroken.

The below guest review was mine. I thought I was signed in.
“It opened with a sharp white floral and lime. The magnolia was the most prominent followed by the Jasmine. I could catch a whiff of the Frangipani every so often, but it was shouted down by the Jasmine, and Magnolia.
After it settled down, the Frangipani came forward a bit more. It was a true plumeria scent but sharp. It didn’t have the warm feel to it.
Overall it had the “generic white floral” thing going on for me. I would prefer to wear Songes if I am in the mood for a true Hawaiian floral.”
союз – :
This is gorgeous and very natural, but as far as longevity and sillage go, you get little to no bang for your buck. By all means, give this one a test run, just to experience a beautiful fragrance, but unless money is no object for you and you can afford to spritz on a $125 perfume like a body spray all day long, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this one.
ice_squirrel – :
Very femenine, soft floral and creamy
One of my favourite when I don’t know what to wear.
Uncomplicated and comforting.
BIGKONDRAT – :
Mmm…what a delicious opening! The most natural and aromatic lemon scent ever!
When it dries down,a sensual, creamy frangipani note takes over, the best I have ever smelled in perfume! It is not overly sweet or overpowering, either ; there is some greenness which tempers the white floral note.
I find that the frangipani note is more evident on really hot days.On colder days, the citrus scent is dominating.
Altogether one of my all-time summer faves!5 stars!
jek_ee – :
I find this perfume to be gorgeous and have enjoyed my little sample, now sadly almost gone. I’m finding the same issue with this fragrance that I have with all the Ormonde Jayne line. Namely strange, unpredictable sillage and persistance. Some of the line seem to disappear almost immediately only to reappear hours later. Others disappear after an hour never to return. I’d completely given up on Frangipani as being too short lived to bother with when I smelled it distinctly and beautifully on a blouse I’d worn more than a week previously. So I thought maybe give this one another try and not spray directly on the skin. So I sprayed it on the hair behind my ears and am spending the day floating in a beautiful, layered and constantly shifting cloud of scent.

When I was in high school, I lived in Hawaii, and we had white and pink plumeria (frangipani) trees in our yard. OJ’s Frangipani is exactly the scent of those plumeria directly after a tropical rainshower, crushed flowers lying under the tree with their sweet and sharp scent.
It starts off with the scent of greenery and crushed plumeria. It is not long before a shy jasmine and tuberose peep out lending a slight sweetness. I’m crazy about tuberose scents, but prefer the ones with more complexity than just a shrill note of tuberose, so Frangipani’s hint of tuberose is perfect. Finally, the amber lends just a hint of powdery goodness to the cedar and vanilla. A truly lovely tropical floral. I tend to have a bit of chemistry mis-match with several of OJ’s musky drydowns–they become a little too sweetly neon on my skin, so I’m very glad that the musk note in Frangipani takes a backseat to the other basenotes.
oleg_rs – :
I grew up in the tropics and find this to be a fairly good rendition of what a frangipani flower actually smells like. I wish the buttery aspect of the flower had been incorporated – then it would have been perfect.
Still, this is a lovely fragrance, especially in a hot climate, where it is delicate enough for daytime, and romantic enough for evening. If you plan to wear OJ Frangipani from day- to night, you will need to re-apply at some point, as its staying power is moderate at most.
SlaGAD – :
The first point which I should probably make about Ormonde Jayne FRANGIPANI is that I managed to drain my entire large (2 ml or is it 2.5?) spray sample vial in very little time. So, no, this is not an overly potent potion, as tropical floral perfumes sometimes are. Instead, FRANGIPANI offers a pleasing bouquet of a variety of floral notes, only one of which is frangipani, and none of which is especially strong. Rose, linden, tuberose, jasmine, water lily, and orchid are all listed among the notes, in addition to frangipani, but none of these is dominant to my nose.
The slightly sweet and resinous quality of this composition is manifest and makes it seem a bit more oriental than floral. One thing is clear: FRANGIPANI is not at all a soliflore, as its name suggests. Instead, it’s a nice, relatively polite little bouquet of a variety of flowers suspended in a clean musky and lightly ambery base. I like this creation, but it’s not my favorite from the Ormonde Jayne line. It seems more like something that was produced to appeal to mainstream perfume users making the transition to niche. Although some men may take a liking to FRANGIPANI, it definitely strikes me as more feminine than masculine or unisex.
dyimka – :
My review is based on experiences in consuming a 50ml bottle of EdP. On my skin Frangipani opens with generic citrusy-linden note, which is replaced by soft and lovely white floral note, presumably the frangipani flower (have not yet been to South Pacific or sniffed the real flower). Pleasant, universally appealing scent, one of those fragrances that can be safely worn anywhere, by anyone.
The major problem I had with this fragrance is the longevity, which has also been mentioned by previous reviewers. I could not detect ANYTHING on my skin 1h after heavy-handed application.
I got the bottle as a gift from a friend and will not replace it. Not worth the buck unless you want to buy a nice present to someone who likes fresh, soft and safe, noninsulting fragrances. If you want to get a nice frangipani fragrance for yourself, there are other more long-lasting (and cheaper) options available.
zkh932Diobtetty – :
White frangipani is one of my fevorite flowers. I really love its beautiful and clean scent. I live in Thailand and grow almost 10 different types of frangipani in my garden. I’ve heard that Ormonde Jayne Frangipani is the nearest to the real frangipani scent. So I’ve ordered decanted one from USA.
At my first sniff, i thought it was just a bit similar to, but not like any color of frangipani I grew, even my fev. white one. After spraying on my skin, it was still not frangipani. For me, I could smell of outstanding plum mixes with other things that I can’t tell. It’s not a sweet fruity, but quite green, fresh fruity with a little bit floral scent. None of vanilla, rose, jasmin or lotus is clearly noticeable.
On my skin, its staying power is good, but silage is not (kinda below average IMO). The smell is quite flat, not so complicated because it does not change or develop at all through out the day. Just the same smell all along. This is still not frangipani scent I’m looking for. Will continue seeking for the right one. ^__^
shurkorap – :
It took me a while to get used to the Ormonde Jayne line, because I tended to get perfume headaches from something in the base. However, I persevered and am glad to say the headaches are a thing of the past.
Frangipani is a truly lovely scent but my search for the perfect frangipani continues. The lime gives a beautiful lift and cuts the headiness of the white flowers, but stops it from being completely authentic. I do like that this does not have the sweet vanilla overdose that other frangipanis suffer from. Never mind. The hunt continues and I hope that I find some more treasures along the way
Igor_OK – :
This is actually very very pretty! I’m finally getting to see what Frangipani smells like in the strong sense and it’s beautiful. I can only describe this as three words….Crisp, Sweet, Fresh and clean.
This perfume smells very real, like someone has literally bottled the essence of the flower without blending it with anything else.. It’s extremely fresh and light and slightly transports me to another place in my head. Frangipani definitley do not grow in London so I feel the tropicalness of this perfume as it’s not the norm to my nose. It’s a cool smelling perfume that is very feminine and very sweetly floral.
This is the 3rd Ormonde Jayne perfume I have tried now..and once again..the authenticity of the scent is dampened by the longevity. 🙁 These perfumes are literally only lasting about 3 hours max on me some much much less. I just think for the price…I would never buy a full bottle. I have samples of them all so will be revewing them all in due course…I hope to find a sillage bomb somewhere in this collection.
Funtom – :
It seems that those who’ve visited Hawaii or the South Pacific hold a special place in their heart for Frangipani, and this is the case for me. I love this delicate, proud flower, and OJ’s version the perfect showcase.
While it is a straight up floral, there is just enough ‘something else’ to keep this from being a frilly foo foo scent. It’s balmy and exotic, like a calm evening walk on a far flung beach.
I suspect the parfum version (which I’m trying), notches it up a bit, but I’m really enjoying my sample. It wears like a whisper and the mood is elusive, but at the end of the day I like it, and in general I”m not a fan of white florals.
This is an extremely lovely submission by this house.
MALVI – :
This is a pretty tropical floral, fairly commercial smelling, but enjoyable to wear. According to the notes on the OJ website, it’s a mix of many different floral notes, including something called “green orchid oil”. I have no idea what that is, since I doubt that it’s extracted from a real orchid flower. Maybe it’s a type of vanilla, which is an orchid, or maybe it’s a fantasy accord called “green orchid” for lack of a better name.
With plenty of sillage, this linear scent of mixed tropical flowers lasts all day. I tested this immediately after thoroughly scrubbing off a perfume that I strongly disliked, so maybe the contrast effect caused me to like Frangipani more than it really deserves, but in any case it should appeal to lovers of floral scents.

Starts out as a bright floral accord with linden and lime very prominent. Voluptuous magnolia then makes a discreet showing, which quickly infuses softly into the heart.
Jeca is right—the frangipani here is very delicate, but distinct. Like a waft of the flower on a cool gentle breeze, no big balmy tropics or heat.
Amber, musk and vanilla add to the sweet radiance while cedar keeps it clean all the way.
White voile curtains billowing in an open room of a Pacific ocean beach house…

I too spent some time in Hawaii – smelt the lush wet frangipani flowers and visited the volcanos – would try this just to smell the memories of this wonderful time in my life!
kolpak – :
A delicate the most fragile Frangipani ever created by a perfumer. You feel the flower without any annoying fruitiness, only the big white creamy flower.
AlteredBeast – :
This is very different from most perfumes I’ve tried-it’s probably more natural and concentrated for a start. It’s quite strong on me but the jasmine, tuberose, musk and vanilla are unobtrusive in the mix. It smells like a heady floral and very much like frangipani, not masculine, powdery or aldehydic. Not sure if I love it yet as it’s quite different from what i’m used to
Armeec – :
a few more notes on this one- I had high hopes for it, as it was my first niche sample decant, but was under-whelmed-

The musk is too prominent for me, I get some floral water thing going on too. I cannot wear musks, reminds me of NR for her too much.

In the summer of 2007, I visited Hawaii, and there smelled the most luscious frangipani. When I first tested this fragrance, it was like being there again: the citrus, the lush greenery, the flowers, the vanilla… I even get watery notes, which is perfect, given that it rains frequently in the islands. A softly sweet green floral with very little fruit (only the citrus in the opening and a hint of plummy sweetness in the heart), it dries down to a gentle woody amber.
I will wear this one and remember the gorgeous gardens, the glorious sunsets, the stunning volcanoes, the tropical warmth, and the caressing waters.
dentim4 – :
It’s like an ice-cream, an exotic scent which is sharply floral bright from the first notes, it becomes creamy (like some kind of butter) and softer after a while, but still very exotic.
Another floral by OJ I want badly.
