Description

“Essences Insensées is a collection inspired by the year’s most exceptional Grasse harvest. This year, a field of glorious May roses inspired perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin’s latest creation -Rose de Mai.
Delicate, vivid, and fragile, this luscious scent is made with the centifolia rose, which has become an elusive rarity on the French Riviera.
On the skin, the scent is at once heady and refreshing, with hints of berries and honey.” – a note from the brand.

The juice is a lovely rose. High quality. HOWEVER, the bottle and packaging are nothing short of crap. I have purchased two bottles and both came leaking out during shipping inside sealed wraps with NONE OF THE JUICE LEFT but a last weak spray from the sprayer tube. This embarrassing design not only creates inconvenience to perfume lovers, but also puts delivery companies at risk of fire and combustion.

This is a beautiful fragrance, and I would have hit ‘love’ if I had never smelled Malle’s Une Rose, which I prefer. But if you’re looking for something a little quieter and more office friendly than Une Rose, this fits. On me it smells a little smoky, but strangely clean.

I really like this and hope Diptyque brings it back for good. This is the scent of their infused face oil and face water products! It’s the most wonderful pulpy, luxurious smelling cabbage rose with an expensive smelling soapiness and yellow smell. Underrated and one of my favorite roses.

this is exactly that kind of Rosenote I can’t stand! Tried it and it will never come close to my skin again. Dark, sour, boring rose.

It is a sweet & sour velvet rose, not as dense as some dark roses in perfumery, but very potent and red.
Berries gives it an intoxicating slightly boozy vibe. It is not as sweet, but rozy sweet. Very comfortable to wear, I not percept it as an old-fashioned fragrance.

A very pretty Rose, pink petals, sweet and a bit syrupy. I do notice the berries giving it sweetness. It has both powdery and juicy aspects. Its very nice, but also very similar to others out there already, like Rose Perfection and Attar de Roses, it is the same Rose note and sweetness, but not as loud as the afore mentioned. Stelladiverflynn’s review is spot on!

I bought this in London in October 2016. With the exchange rate, I was able to get it for about $110. Went into the boutique on Bond St., had a chat with the SA, was determined to stock up on other frags – vetyverio, eau rose, my classics! Instead she guided me towards this one.
When I sprayed it in store, I really enjoyed it – like a honeyed rose nectar, similar but stronger than eau rose. Given the great exchange rate and the “discount” (I’d never spend $180 in the US), I decided to go for it.
I wish I hadn’t. I didn’t pay much attention the rest of that day, but she gave me a few samples. At home, in a different climate, this smelled like curry on my skin. Smoke and spice. How?! How could such a delicate rose soliflore end up so unpleasant? It wasn’t a smoky, dark rose. It was just smoke (and mirrors, apparently). It opened with a jammy rose, and morphed into something very different indeed. None of the freshness of the rose de mai, none of the provencal sweetness of the honey, none of the heady romanticism of those velvety petals. Rose fragrances tend to do very well with my skin – out of the 30 or so perfumes currently in my wardrobe, most are rose based, often softened with honey or violet. I’m not sure what they have done to the rose, but surely it didn’t ask for this?
I ended up selling this one on Ebay. I hope the person who purchased this from me enjoys it more than I did!

It’s safe to say that 2016’s Essences Insensées is a rose soliflore. Right from the beginning until its very end, it’s almost entirely a suave, velvety cabbage rose. A subtle green spicy nuance accompanies the opening, while rich, sweet honey and tart, wine-like raspberry aspects render a voluptuous feeling in the heart and the dry down, yet the fragrance maintains a diffusive, weightless character, like the delicate pink petals of a rose flower.
Essences Insensées becomes a bit more musky with time. Thanks to the slight animalic aspect of honey, it manages to avoid the clean “shampoo” route. The sillage is quite soft, and it becomes an intimate skin scent after about 6 hours, but I can always smell its trace even after 12 hours.
I find 2016’s Diptyque Essences Insensées a very pretty rose fragrance, showing all the charming side of rose in a quite natural way. But even though it does present different nuances of a cabbage rose, it’s so focused on these characteristics of rose that it became kind of monotone in the long run. I’d definitely recommend it to ardent rose fans to give a try, or to those who would like to experience a cabbage rose soliflore, precisely because of its sole focus on rose. But it can also turn out to be a flaw to some people for the exact same reason.
