Description

Swedish cosmetics company Oriflame dedicates its new male fragrance Espionage to the fiftieth anniversary of the movies about secret agent 007 James Bond. Inspired by the scent of whiskey, it is created as a combination of different kinds of notes – fruit, marine, aromatic and ambery.

The scent belongs to the woody – aquatic perfume family. It is developed by Fabrice Pellegrin. Opening with notes of bergamot, red wine and Kirsch, the composition introduces amber, clary sage and marine ozone notes. The base captures refinement and masculinity with vetiver and cedar.

It is available as 50 ml Eau de Toilette.
Espionage was launched in 2012.

This is one – that when you smell it – you wonder, “how does no one know about this?”
Such a pronounced wine note – mixed with a unique backdrop of semi-light amber, aquatics and citrus. Yes, the note breakdown is weird – but the smell is 100% unique (which is what we all want, right?)
As noted previously, the performance is strong. To me, it’s quite pleasing. I don’t find it to be too strange or “unsafe” – in fact, I believe most people would find this quite pleasant. The opening is a bit shocking – but less than 5 minutes it smoothes out. Because of the uniqueness, I feel this could potentially be worn year round. For the price, this could easily be considered a diamond in the rough. Kudos to the brand and the nose for taking a chance.

This one is sooo odd… wine-boozy vibe, no soft notes to make it smoother, more approachable.
Also, it’s a bit sour and marine at the same time. Really unique. That’s what a psycho would wear, daily :).

Long lasting and good sillage I must say that after using it for a year I hate it now. It’s too strong and makes me headache.

This is more woody aromatic rather than woody aquatic, not particularly fresh or aquatic but very bold and unique.

i am so disappointed with this perfume. Too weak and soft :'(.
Amber and wine are not fresh anymore. smells are like balsam.
Bottle in this web is looking awesome and luxury, but after i get this perfume, the bottle is not luxury anymore. looking like a cheap bottle.
Do you know? i wait this order perfume for 4 weeks. 🙁

So maybe it’s just my odd taste…… I’m so reluctant to appreciate every single perfume that has marine notes in it or notes that was made to smell sour on someones skin. Espionage is another example of that. Combinations of two. The marine/ calone notes is fiercely piercing my nostril, and whatever the luxury brandy or whiskey notes behind it, I am sooo distracted by that. However, for a perfume enthusiast like me, I think the idea is quite unique to combine those sea & liquor notes at the same time. Too bad I can’t handle the scent, although I really like the shape of the bottle which reminds me of E. Aigner’s Private Number bottle.

this unique fragance make me melt with a touch of brandy at the biggining.. yeaah.. expensive brandy mix with bitter wine,, really unique.. estimate 10-15 min
then the middle become soft and amber with a touch of brandy,, hmmmm… i smell fancy on my skin,, with medium sillage,, estimate 3-4 hour
after 3-4hour spray,, the brandy and amber keep stick on my skin,, but some soft and peacefull aroma combining with vetiver,, wow.. seem like i’ve shower with a fancy soap.. eheheheh,,
but i dont like the bottle.. seems like girl fragance,, eheheeh,,
i think its fit for night in summer time.. in the relaxed time.. 😀
    i give rate
    smell : 8/10 its good n unique..
sillage : 8/10 enough for relaxing
    longevity : 8/10 6-7 hours is good..
i’ll recomended this fragance at the age 25 – 35 and i love this..
    fancy,,

Amber is the most prominent note. It is not bad, but too much amber makes it smell like ointment.

Espionage is my first touch with Oriflame and it was a blind buy. I was grabbed by the strange notes – red wine and brandy plus amber in the middle…interesting, isn’t it? I didn’t have high expectations so when the bottle came I thought it would be fun, nothing more. But Espionage gave me more then fun. I expected something average with short life and low projection, but I was wrong.
Espionage starts very interesting – fresh, but very differently from the typical fresh start. The apple is here – nothing new, but the red wine and brandy are also here…exactly these notes makes the big differences in the start. I can’t describe precisely the start as separate notes, but I can describe what comes into my mind immediately after spray it…Imagine you are on a beach, in a night beach bar, very close to the sea and you have an exotic cocktail in front of you…And that is the start – fresh, but exotic.
Later, the middle notes become stronger and they are as fragrantica shows in pyramid – I can sense definitely Sage with some strong sea freshness. Then came the amber note – I was sceptical that amber is in the middle notes, but on my skin it comes in the middle. I know it, because the scent becomes more balanced and a little bit sweeter and closer to others known men scents with amber. On my skin the amber note it’s not loud as the Sage note. Clary sage is defiantly the most powerful note in Espionage. Base notes give the woody feeling, but through the whole scent life I can feel some fresh aquatic notes and that is very uplifting.
About longativity and projection – both are really great/on my skin/ and that is a nice surprise, because I know Oriflame as a mediocre brand with some nice scents with average quality. It stays on my skin more than 8-9 hours and projects very good in the first 4-5 hours, then it calms a little bit, but it still got decent projection through the whole day.
Final words – Espionage is a very interesting, unpopular/by now/ woody-aquatic and fresh-exotic man scent, with excellent longativity and projection.
It’s not an expensive perfume so you can try it – there is nothing to lose here.
Oriflame and Fabrice Pellegrin did a great job and make me want two more man scents from Oriflame – Signature Heritage and Architect.
