Description

The house of L’Artisan Parfumeur is launching an interesting new fragrance named Batucada. Batucada originates from Rio de Janeiro and is a substyle of samba.

Perfumers Karine Vinchon and Elizabeth Maier were in charge of the composition of the new fragrance. The perfume connects not only two perfumers, but also two places on different sides of the world – Grasse in France and Sao Paulo in Brazil. Grasse is present as the place of origin of the fragrance while Brazil serves as inspiration for ingredients, name and general idea behind the fragrance.

Batucada, a fragrance for men and women, opens with Brazilian drink Caipirinha, which consists of lime, cachaça and mint leaves. A heart incorporates opulent and sweet floral notes of tiare flower and ylang ylang. Final notes close with a drydown of coconut water and marine notes of sea salt.

The fragrance is expected on the market beginning of October 2011 as100 ml and 50 ml EDT.
Batucada was created by Karine Vinchon and Elisabeth Maier.

I applied non-scented lotion right after showering this morning, waited an hour then spritzed Batucada, hoping to eek out a bit more time with it. My effort proved futile, nothing gained in terms of performance. The opening of this is fabulous, but from experience it lasts less than an hour.
So I brought the bottle to work and reapplied during my lunch break. That first hour is magical. I pick up a bunch of fresh notes all hanging out together: lime, mint, sea salt, ylang, and a very light coconut essence. It feels exotic but not in a sweet, commercial way.
If i was on vacation, this perfume is where the locals hang out.
After about an hour it morphs into a skin scent. All of the notes are still there, but are now softer and rounder. I wore this on a warm Fall day, with temps around 70 degrees (unusual for us here in Seattle), so I don’t think it’s going to perform much better in Summer.
I like it a lot, but the longevity issues are preventing me from loving it. I bought a 50ml for a steal so for now I will enjoy it in short bursts.

Interesting fragrance…It starts out with lime, sugar, and mint…but doesn’t really smell like a mojito…more like a candy of some sort.
After drydown it gets more interesting..some of the other notes come through…salt notes, very light coconut, ylang-ylang, and the floral note. There does seem to be an herbal base that isn’t listed…and it seems a bit piney and woody. I actually like that part.
Longevity is surprisingly good given the main notes.
I think this is for those that want something longer lasting and higher quality than Set Sail St. Bart’s or something more interesting and less coconutty than Virgin Island Water.
    But, this isn’t for me.

I blind bought this perfume based on lime and mint notes. I was hoping for a beach suntan lotion vibe because it has coconut in it too. Nope not on my skin!
This scent on me is only aquatic with almost animalic note except it is actually dirty ocean salty smell of seaweed rotting on beach. From the opening it had no citrus or any other notes. As time passed it faded to salty seawater but nothing else. Zero flowers detected!
After reading other reviews I assume it is my body chemistry ruining this fragrance. None of the other notes ever came through on my skin. I am so disappointed!
This is a skin scent on me but strong. I live in Arizona desert it is 119 degrees today and I have extremely dry skin so any perfume struggles to last on me.

Smells like whiskey or some kind of strong booze, not caipirinha though. No citrus either. Was expecting it to be waay fresher and brighter, with the lime, salt, mint and all that.
Also, it’s extremely weak. Even after I applied the *entire* sample it was just barely there. I wonder if maybe I’ve been scammed or something with the sample I bought… :/

If anyone is interested in purchasing or trading, I have a 75% full 3.4 bottle of this fragrance in the original box.

Batucada by L’Artisan Parfumeur was not quite what I was expecting. I knew it was going to be fruity, it was the oceanic vibe that had me off-guard. Although marketed as unisex, I must admit that I find it better suited to masculine skin.
Batucada is a rich and juicy fruity floral which suits the warmer weather. This fragrance was supposedly created to emulate the scent of a Brazilian beach and to pay homage to a Rio de Janiero samba dance, and although I have never traveled to this vast South American land, I can certainly see how this fragrance’s composition came to be.
Although this may sound off-putting, Batucada is the kind of fragrance that would complement the natural, salty scent of sweat on a warm Summer’s day. It’s the sweaty, pheromone aspect of this fragrance that makes it far more attractive on other’s skin than it is on my own. Nobody wants to be sexually attracted to themselves.
Batucada, despite being a warm weather scent does have rather bold projection. The longevity is also impressive, lasting a decent six to seven hours on my skin. The best advice I can offer is to go easy on the sprays and to treat this fragrance as you would a potent Eau de Parfum.
The most dominant notes to my nose include salt, lime, sugar cane and tiare flower. Batucada’s scent pyramid almost makes it sound like a sweet, Escada-style tropical scent, but do not be fooled, the sweetness in this fragrance is minimal.

Full review to come very shortly, but ALL I can say right now is that this is one half of what I believe to be one of [if not] THE GREATEST fragrance blends in Fragrance History…… I may be embellishing somewhat, but please stay tuned for that revelation and please try to get your hands on this discontinued gem ASAP- I mean ASAP before it totally vanishes from the market….. The offer half of this blend is STILL very much available- at least since the last time I checked about a week ago…….

I love this. Such an unusual refreshing citrus aromatic. The best way I can describe this is womanity summer. Batucada has the same marine caviar accord and adds a healthy splash of lime. I only get the tiare and coconut at the drydown.
One of the very few tropical/Caribbean scents not sugar saturated/synthetic smelling I’ve come across.

  9. :

    5 out of 5

Batucadas opening is surprisingly nice with is salty lime and bit aquatic/ozonic feel to it and I usually don’t like aquatic/ozonic scents at all but this kind of opening is one I can get behind! Middle is bit troubled in my mind; the nice energetic feeling of the opening is gone, freshness has more of a floral edge to it with ylang-ylang and what I assume is tiare flower. I hoped to get more sweetness as it works wonders for fragrances in my skin but I’m left with bit of a dry feeling, it’s hard to explain; this is bit funny as I thought Batucada as a beach scent. Drydown on the other hand is musky, bit salty and sweet; rather inoffensive.
Longevity is quite good for lighter summer scent; it hangs in there most of the day. Batucada isn’t loud scent and I don’t really mind that summery scents aren’t sillage beasts.
Overall I do like this one but I do not love it, that’s bit of a problem when there is so many amazing things I can get instead but still I am glad I got my nose to this one to finally get aquatic fragrance that I did like is great. For those that like aquatics I’d wager this is great fragrance and after the L’Artisans bottle design change there has been pretty amazing prices for Batucada.

I can smell all the notes except the coconut, it is nowhere to be found. Overall, this scent is more masculine than feminine, yet still unisex. It smells fresh and sweet at first, the salt and aquatic notes come later. Unfortunately the aquatic note smells kind of generic, I’ve smelled it a thousand times in men’s fragrances. It’s a bit musky, masculine, and very synthetic.
The sillage is low, longevity is about 4 hours. I’ll probably use up my sample but won’t buy a full bottle.

Ordered this last summer on a blind buy. When it arrived I sprayed it on and it was meh, no big deal, not very interesting. Brought it back out now that the temps are warming up and WOW I am in love with this stuff!! The lime, sugar, mint and the sea combine to make a wonderful summer spritzer! Lime is the star of the show in the opening, then you get the sweetness of sugar with the salty sea during the dry down. I think I’ll be wearing this quite a bit this summer.

  12. :

This is DELICIOUS!! I get pretty good longevity and moderate projection on my skin; 6+ hours.
So glad I picked this one up!

  13. :

    4 out of 5

Edit: Blind bought this and initially loved it. Now I smell what everyone says when they say it is off.
Drydown is pretty, opening is interesting, the heart is nausea inducing.
Save your money and don’t get this one.
Edit2: Tried it again. I like it again.

  14. :

A heady cocktail of lime, mint, coconut, and ylang ylang. The fragrance opens with a nice blast of lime and mint, with a hint of marine notes and sugar. The coconut and ylang ylang then kick in, and are sustained through the drydown. The whole mix is tempered by a bit of salt, to keep it from going into that sickly-sweet territory.
Definitely a fragrance for the beach, with caipirinha or mojito in hand. While billed as unisex, I feel this is slightly more on the feminine side. I still enjoy it, however, and it’s definitely a great summer fragrance.
Longevity is decent, I get around 4-5 hours on my skin. However, this is a skin scent on me, with very little sillage.

  15. :

    4 out of 5

For me it was a blind buy as I read so many good reviews about Batucada. I can’t smell lime much, may be a little. and I smell a lot of ylang ylang. Very strong smell. I didn’t like it at first but after using it several times I liked it. My husband likes it as well. I should probably try it on other people )))) unfortunately I can’t wear perfumes to my work.
Longetivity leaves much to be desired.

  16. :

this is very musky and fresh on me , a bit sour however it is my after shower perfume 🙂

  17. :

    5 out of 5

It’s been love at first spray. You immediately get a sugary red-fruits cocktail which is led by a bitter base of warm sand, slightly marine and iodized note (has nothing to do with Acqua di Sale, Salina, Rem, Aqua Motu’s style).
The cocktail smell will eventually dry down to leave that touch of bitterness alone which is then very evocative of salty water that has dried on your skin after having played some beach sports under the afternoon sun.
    Longevity: 2/3 hours at best
    Sillage: radiates within arm length.
9/10 very evocative of summer and fun.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

Smells like an exotic cocktail. I get lime, coconut and milk, but no sea water or any freshness. Batucada, you don’t impress me much. Sillage is very low, longevity is super short (1-2 hours). Forgettable.

  19. :

    4 out of 5

Mmm I love this really refreshing and zingy with the lime and ylang ylang but sweet enough not to have that dry bitter feel most citrusy scents tend to have. The seasalt and coconut add a tropical feel but not overbearing just a touch.
I have 100+ niche samples for swap within Europe – updated spreadsheet of samples on my profile, get in touch!

  20. :

    3 out of 5

First off a big hit of sugared lime and some sort of mint leaf. Like you are about to sip a cocktail. Then I get the exotic flowers scent. There is something beachy there too. I think this is a summer perfume. It reminds me of holidays in the sun. Nice. Not something I would wear often but I like it.

  21. :

    3 out of 5

A nod to the caipirinha cocktail. Summer, summer, summer. Batucada (great name) opens with a blast of spearmint and sea green lime. The marine notes keep this juice from becoming too juvenile, but they are very detectable so be warned. If tropical is your thing then at least grab a sample. Fans of Creed’s Millesime Imperial should definitely take notice as well. I generally prefer darker scents so this is a little too sandals and sunglasses for me, but if it sounds like your cup of tea then get out and try this refreshing juice. Good lasting power for a L’Artisan perfume. I could still smell it lingering even after a shower.

  22. :

(If anyone wants to try this, happy to swap a decant for my want list.)
I really wanted to love this one, because it’s inspired in a brazilian drink, caipirinha (and ‘m Brazilian). Sadly, it does not remind me of such drink. It is citrusy, without much sweetness, and a tad salty. Interesting, but it’s not my thing.

  23. :

    5 out of 5

Unusual. A nice balance of sweet and citrus. Lime, quite rindy and fulsome, is the first note but it’s not harsh – then mint (a green mint, not peppermint) then tiare, again not overdone. It is a bit like wearing a cocktail, but it’s never sickly. I can’t find any coconut but the final blend is salty, woodsy, subtly tropical and beachy. On the summer shelf, very pleasant x

  24. :

    3 out of 5

Batucada starts limey and a little spicy but more so fruity all in one; For me, it is very reminiscent of Bois 1920 Oltremare and Bahiana or at least along those fragrance veins.
There may even be a hint of DG Light Blue in there…..I think this is a fantastic scent for summer and spring. It’s winter now; I’d like to try it and see what comes of it.

I got this in TK Maxx for a good price. I really love this to wear on hot days. Its fresh, classy and pretty. There is nothing heavy or cloying about it. I love the lime, tiare and coconut combo. I dont find it overly aquatic even though many appear to notice it in the top three notes. It manages to last about 3 hrs which is not bad considering the notes in this. The sillage is moderate to but I’ve not really tested it in really warm weather yet.

I’m LOVING this!! But, is it me or does Batucada have a dry down that smells VERY similar (if not, just about spot on)to Tom Ford’s Costa Azura?

  27. :

    5 out of 5

The opening is very beautiful, fresh, energetic, tropical! a perfume for use in hot summer days! the favorite part remains the opening. Soft scent of sillage and longevity average in the base notes evolves almost “gourmand” .. sugar along with the mind remain “fresh” composition .. is not among my favorites, but could be better it smells good!
    Sillage: 5/10
    Longevity: 6.5/10
    Scent: 6.5/10
    Overall: 6.5/10

  28. :

    4 out of 5

Batucada is a typical summer fragrance. It’s sparkly and fresh like a sunny day on a tropical beach. On me it opens with lime then I can smell cocconut, sugar cane and something alcoholic that reminds me a cocktail but, after a while, on me it smells like a suntan cream. For this reason I don’t like too much to wear this scent. But on the mouillette I find it very nice. It lasts on me a couple of hour and sillage is very poor.

  29. :

    3 out of 5

I was very excited about this because majority of reviews labeled this scent as not only marine but also sweet and aromatic.
I am terribly disappointed. The scent is VERY sour like the bottom of a caipirinha with all the sugar already dissolved and drank up.
I’m sure it will work for many and it is a pretty scent but completely not what I was expecting.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

Opening: The first 0-3 minutes: Salty beach water, lime, some kind of smooth clear alcoholic beverage (I’ve never tried a caipirinha so I don’t want to lie and say that’s what I think it smells like) and a soft, pretty, perfumey but never overbearing tiare flower.
4+ minutes after it settles down: The salty ocean lime alcohol element settles down (or the nose gets used to it) and the lightly creamy tiare comes more into the foreground.
After that, pretty linear, did not notice the coconut (one of my favorite notes.)
I have an obsession with beachy perfumes, to name a few: Bobbi Brown Beach, Margiela Beach Walk, Lolita Lempicka Elle L’aime, Creed’s Aventus and Virgin Island Water and my ultimate favorite of all time Heeley’s Coccobello and I would rate this near the top. Unlike may other ones, this has no suntan-lotion-smell at all, which is a nice change and it also doesn’t choke on the white flowers. However it IS very sea-salty and limey so I’d say try before you buy, espeially if it’s hard for you to imagine what it might smell like from the reviews.
Very cool and unique, definitely a summer fragrance and in my opinion, completely unisex.

  31. :

    4 out of 5

This is citrusy-sweet, salty, beachy, and all other things mentioned before.
However, it is also a l’Artisan: expect none of the screechiness or cheap suntan lotion of lesser summer offerings, no overbearing coconut, no bug spray. Complex enough to remain interesting, and the drydown is delicious, almost woody I’d say.
It does have a very subtle whiff of cumin (I doubt Batucada is restricted to its listed notes here, it’s a more intricate fragrance than that), but take it from this cumin and indoles-phobe: it smells absolutely clean.
    A delight.

  32. :

I really didn’t care for this as a dab on my hand. I got a decant of it as a bonus in a swap and threw caution to the wind. Went for the whole hog spray. And…I love it! So refreshing and citrusy sweet. I’m a fan!

  33. :

    5 out of 5

Very strong citrus and mint at first ,after that it smells like strong body odour on me.What went wrong?

  34. :

    5 out of 5

I happened upon a sampler of this, and there’s only one word for Batucada: joyful.
It’s light, it’s floral, it’s citrusy… and there’s that rum and coconut vibe somewhere in the background, but none of it is overwhelming or oppressive. It’s not too much of any of those, nor too little. I’m not the manliest of men, but it seems to work very well for me. Definitely considering grabbing a bottle of this.

  35. :

    5 out of 5

A sumer day on a beach… samba music and tanned bodies moving in a rhythm.
Fresh citrus opening mixed with sun cream lotion and subtle ylang-ylang. A minty losenge dropped into sugary mojito drink.
The composition incorporates a skin accord as well, which I can’t smell, unfortunately. The scent is familiar and natural, stays close to the skin and doesn’t project.
Longevity on me is 8 hours, more than 10 on clothes. Test this before buying a full bottle. There are better alternatives out there.
    (score: 73%)

  36. :

    4 out of 5

I tried this before looking at the scent notes, and about an hour in, I thought, mint! Well sure enough. I want to like this, but the marine accord often plays like eau du bug spray on my skin, and this is no exception. I may try again when the weather turns warmer, but in cool rainy weather, this is a no-go for me.

First of all I would like to say that to me perfume is like art,it is an impression of a certain place or thing. For some fragrances you have to have an imagination. This is one of those fragrances.I bought this blindly based on notes alone and some reviews from different websites. Some people said it was lacking for a L’Artisan fragrance and others absolutely loved it and I am one of the ones that loved it.It is one of the best blended perfumes I have ever smelled and its very natural and non synthetic. When you spray this you can really smell all of the notes all the way until the dry down but on my skin the sea salt and suntan lotion vibe is what I notice the most. There is a slight. dirtyness similar to what you smell in Angel that might be a turn off to some but to me its part of its allure. If your in hot weather all day at the beach your gonna smell salty sweat all around you but when its mixed with ocean salt and coconut suntan lotion and your sipping on a lime cocktail I guarantee no one is going to care at least I wouldn’t.I wouldn’t call this a feminine fragrance but a citrus beachy scent.Longevity on my dry skin is awesome. This is a high quality FUN fragrance that I will be having a blast wearing this summer with my beachy boho attire. This will bloom in the heat and I guarantee that this perfume will bring to your mind the palms swaying in the breeze, the ocean waves crashing on the shore and the last remnants of suntan lotion and sun on your skin. Now your headed to get a lime drink and relax.Yes you get all of that in one bottle.I do anyway.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

I really enjoy this juice. It reminds me slightly of Virgin Island Water from Creed. It offers a unique twist on the theme though with the addition of a more fruity opening. I feel as though when my 10 mil sample is all gone, I will get a full bottle.
    My Score 8.5

  39. :

    5 out of 5

Unfortunately this fragrance did not agree with me at all. I am a Pitta type of a person from the Ayurvedic standpoint and I believe it was the sour, lime aspect of this fragrance, which rubbed me the wrong way. I tested it from an authentic sample and instantly smelled alcoholic vomitus type of odor. The intensity of this nasty smell waned in about an hour, leaving my skin smelling sour and unclean for about one more hour. This is the first L’Artisan fragrance which I dislike and hopefully the last.

Open a bottle of white Havana rum 6 aňeos 3 aňos, let it stay for a month so, that the alcohol evaporates, add coconut milk and 10 tablespoon sugar and now smell this.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

At first this is a sour, fresh tropical drink, like a margarita or mojito. Like a mix of both with the salt, lime, and mint. Then as it calms down I get a milky, coconut milk feel to it although it still feels part of an alcoholic drink. Very boozy, refreshing, slightly sweet without being too cloying. Delicious! Great for summer. Lasts about 3 hours.

  43. :

    4 out of 5

Fresh sweet wet fresh lime juice with a salted rim.
It does have a sweet mojito flare but the mint is very light.
This is a summery fresh light citrus perfume. About an hour in, some of the floral notes come out a bit, but they are very muted and almost spicy.
Sweet juicy lime and salty oceanic notes carry through the fragrance. Lovely coconut that pairs very nice with this scent.
I think its a great fresh, very citrusy, light scent that is super non offensive. GREAT in hot summer heat.
Longevity is quite good! 8 – 9 hours

    Review from a sample (dabber):
Batucada opens with zesty lime, spicy and fruity, with a tiny hint of bitter lime peel. It reminds me of a tropical cocktail, it’s almost a gourmand for me.
Then the perfume starts to settle down and the florals appear, in a salty sea breeze. The lime keeps lingering through.
Longevity is moderate, sillage is soft on me. Didn’t get any mint or coconut.
I can see how this scent can be unisex. I like it on me, but I’d also very much like to smell this on a man. Smells like a good party is about to happen!

  45. :

    5 out of 5

Batucada is nice & weird at the same time. Definitely tropical – salty sea air mixed with lime, gentle tropical floral and little mint.
This is different for sure. Salt vs. Sugar combination somehow reminds me of a line of Womanity by Thierry Mugler.

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Never been a huge fan on L’Artisan – on me they tend to either become very plain or soapy. But I’ve been looking for a summer citrusy fragrance for years. Standard citrus usually smells like dishwashing liquid on me, so I’ve almost given up. Reading reviews on this one I decided to give it a try. And didn’t regret!
It is tropical, slightly citrusy, very summery and lively! Despite all this it is not your usual spritz. It is very rich, yet fresh, doesn’t give you headache (which is vital for me) and smell good on “hot skin”. If you can’t wear anything “fresh” and have to go for more heavy and sweet fragrances, then try this one.

  47. :

    5 out of 5

I gave this perfume a couple of tries.
The initial blast is amazing – alcoholic, citrusy, coconut sweetness with a grand sea breeze.
Then all is drowned down by a certain scent, like the sea breeze notes takes a bad twist towards b.o.
So sad, as this is a super funky and fun scent up to that point.
I just hope that it’ll work better with your chemistry than it does with mine.

  48. :

    4 out of 5

To me this is a sugary floral, Tiare flower and ylang ylang with a thirst quenching hint of aquatic seabreeze and an exotic cocktail type feel to it. I’d largely disagree that this fragrance is all about the lime margarita thing which it does vaguely conjure up in the opening but soon becomes apparent Batucada is more about the flowers.
It leans toward the feminine for me but do you know what…that doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
I love this fragrance…I really love it.
Not sure I could pull it off with such a butch reputation to uphold, another wear and I may have an answer. L’Artisan is a good house offering quality and invention at a slightly more reasonable price this is yet another good one.
Update: Oh yes!!! Wearing this today and I have cemented my position finally. I will be purchasing Batucada it’s tropical wonder juice so, so good and really unlike anything I have currently. It was between this and Antigua which came in a close second place.

  49. :

Woah, am I the only one who actually thinks it’s quite nice perfume? Citrusy, but not in a harsh way like many other citrus smelling scents. It makes me think of a lovely sea-breeze.

@maio2012! From Wikipedia:BATUCADA IS A SUBSTYLE OF SAMBA and refers to an African influenced Brazilian percussive style, usually performed by an ensemble, known as a Bateria. Batucada is characterized by its repetitive style and fast pace.

  52. :

    5 out of 5

Cachaça, lime and mint can be an interesting drink, but it is NOT CAIPIRINHA! Batucada is not a subtype of samba; it is any afro rhythm made predominantly with percussion instruments. As a brazilian I can only imagine that L´Artisan is well-minded, but didn´t studied minimally the country that will host the 2014 FIFA World CUP and the 2016 Olympic Games.

  53. :

What a mess! Lime and mint and salt and some kind of alcohol…like a Margherita cocktail, but with a hint of mint…I love Margherita, but I can’t imagine to smell like this. It would be weird. But maybe exactly that it should be – confusional and incomprehensible. When I imagine the carnival of Rio I could use the same adjective – confusional; and actually Batucada is a subcategory of the famous Samba danced in Rio…
I cannot detect any coconut, neither any sweet notes. The dry down is rather masculine, even animalic and I admit – I LOVE it a lot! It’s worth waiting for an hour for enjoying it… I can imagine a funny, exuberant, well dressed (but in all colors) young man wearing it for some hot summer nights out.

Excuse-me, but here in Brasil we don´t drink caipirinha with mint. I live in Minas Gerais State, the land of cachaça and the original caipirinha recipe only includes cachaça, sugar, lime and ice. The drink recipe with mint leaves is mojito (that is not a brazilian drink). Well, I don´t know how caipirinha is served outside Brasil…
P.s.: Thinking more about brazilian scents I guess mint not even represents Brazil. We don´t use mint in any recipes from north to south. We only use mint in pineapple juice.
There was hundred ingredients they could put in this for represent Brasil like pitanga, acerola, mexerica, jaboticaba, cajú, pequi, mate, cidreira, cajá, mangaba, cagaita, mamacadela, seriguela, gabiroba, acaí, guaraná, castanha do pará, buriti, andiroba, maracujá, cupuaçu, jaca, fruta do conde, pimenta malagueta… hundreds.

Straight up Margarita, salt rim included. Tart, freshly cut open lime, enough to make you salviate and your jaw ache. A touch of sugar, a splash of fizz..and then salt, salt, salt. I can only apply it sparingly on the wrists and behind the knees, any closer and it feels like a face full of sea spray. Really have to be in the mood to wear this one and the conditions have to be right so as not to amplify the salt. Huge sillage and good longevity.

Great summer concoction: sweet, flowery, citrusy…and oceanic good
Batucada is a great summer fragrance. Certainly, it is not a linear one. During its initial phase, Batucada is alluring and unique, it feels like spraying a sweet lime-based drink surrounded by tropical flowers (unisex flowery). During its middle life it slowly turns into a sweet flowery and aqueous composition. Last, during its dry down, it morphs into salty skin fragrance.
The first blast of Batucada is lovely. The lime scent is natural, refreshing, delicious, and sweet (due to the sugar note). This lasts for about 30 minutes. At this point the Ylang-Ylang and Tiare kick in adding elegance to Batucada, Also the mint shows up, adding a sparkling freshness. So within 30 minutes Batucada is in full swing and at its most captivating point. It is sweet, pleasant, elegant, and refreshing, perfectly suitable for hot, steamy, and wet weather conditions.
These notes dance together for 1 hour. It’s the best part of Batucada. I’m happy at this point. This is how I want to smell all day long on a Caribbean vacation If I had to walk all day under a searing tropical sun. I really like how it performs here in Florida where you don’t want a perfume to suffocate other people or you from the heat.
As Batucada approaches the 1st hour mark, the lime begins to fade away slowly, the Tiare and Ylang-Ylang stay, and the aquatic and salty notes begin to surface. This aquatic/salty combo accord makes my skin smell like as it does at the end of a day at the beach and salty ocean water has evaporated over it multiple times.
I wish I could pick a little coconut in Batucada as some people report, but unfortunately I don’t get anything at all.
Batucada usually lasts about 5-6 hours on me. However, there have been times I can still get wafts of it much longer than that.

A ticket to Brazil, one way, please!
    Oh, this is so good.
A few weeks ago I tried ananas Fizz, and I was disappointed.
Batucada is what I expect from a tropical fragrance. Fresh, fun, fruity, with some aquatic accords (just the right amount)and a little bit sugary.
So many things are going on at the same time that is hard to describe it. The lime, tiare and sugar make an explosive opening, then the salt, sea water and mint bring a fresh burst while the sugar plays all the way.
It feels like a rollercoaster, a wonderful one. The dry down is more quiet, like a sunset at the beach, when the sand is still warm but a light cool breeze starts to blow.
Fantastic. After my bad impression of L’Artisan with Ananas Fizz, I have to say that thanks to Batucada I have a new respect for this house.

Overly sweet and *cheap* smelling concoction of coconut, calone and some booze with salty facets.
Smells somewhere between a long drink, laundry detergent and a mass market white floral. Dreadful.
    Rating: 4/10

Now I understand sherapop’s comment about ‘needing a shower’ lol. I have put a sample of Batucada on as I went out for a jog. Bad move…honestly…the heat and sweat from jogging just exacerbated the saltiness of this perfume. All rather odd as I didn’t get any saltiness at all when testing on a perfume strip, just got lime and marine notes…hhhmmm.
I could smell like this free of charge…no hang on…maybe for the cost of one lime…I could go for a jog on a hot sunny day and instead of having a shower afterwards, I could just rub juicy lime under my arms. It would achieve the same effect!
I can picture festival goers or surfers perhaps wearing this but not me sadly.

Finally I found crispy, juicy and fresh lime fragrance!
This fragrance with the lime and the mint note is a truly delight for the hot weather!
And thanks to the other notes, it smells unique enough comparing with other fresh citrusy fragrances. The most noticeable floral note is ylang-ylang. But it is far from being intensive as usual here luckily.
It’s sweet a little bit sweet and salty at the same time:)
This fragrance is my favorite by L’Artisan Parfumeur.
    Awesome!!!

Sherapop described this perfectly with the phrase, “drunk and in desperate need of a shower”. Batucada is a light aquatic, citrus, and coconut beach scent that has been drenched in rum and has partied all night, resulting in just a hint of sweet perfume behind all the booze and sweat. Interesting, but I generally try not to smell I’ve spent the night drinking mojitos and dancing on the beach, even if that’s what I’d love to be doing.

This perfume reminds me of the movie ‘Cocktail’. I swear I can actually hear the opening title soundtrack by the Beach Boys when testing this scent…bermuda, bahama, come on pretty mama…..
Batucada has such a laid-back beach vibe.
Straight off the bat, I mean beach, I get a fresh dose of mint, shaken not stirred crushed with white rum on ice. Vanilla ice. And lot’s of fresh cut lime. Then there is a beautiful tiare flower, white in the heart of this fragrance that gives it a golden glow. And in the first 20 minutes, I can even detect the tiniest amount of pepper along with some grapefruit.
After 4 hours, the white floral heart is left. No salt for me either
