I’m having a hard time deciding between the 2 great Heeley incense fragrances. Eau Sacree has a touch of Jovoy La Liturgie des Hueres’ distinct sweet flavor of unburned Catholic incense with a background of arid, fuzzy Iso E Super (even though on Fragrantica, more people compare Cardinal to the Jovoy…I disagree). Cardinal, on the other hand, has a pronounced, central note of piney, lemony frankincense that lasts a few hours until a soft smokey skin scent remains. Both are really good and exemplify Heeley’s well-edited, chic and modern-classic style. Like Margaret Howell as perfumer. I guess the choice comes down to the cool mineral scent of frankincense like a Catholic Church celebrating The Epiphany in January (Cardinal) vs. the warmer, sweeter resinous scents of incense you might associate with Ash Wednesday mass in April. What’s your favorite scent memory of church?

Dense, smoky, clerical but not too much. The best incense exists.10 / 10
    Incredible performance.

An expertly made and tightly balanced frankincense composition is always great to meet. Eau Sacree is a purist, straightforward incense that greatly succeeds in being different than the other Heeley offering Cardinal in a way that is devoid of the freshness and “whiteness” of its predecessor in support of a more classical soft oriental structure. Every note is superbly blended and judged supporting firmly a beautiful, sanctified perfume that opens as a soft “rosy” incense and dries down gracefully in a very calm and elegant manner. This fragrance is indeed reminiscent of faith and devotion in the divine and truly wonderful.

This was a lot to take in when I sprayed for the first time. There is lots happening, it’s very deep and strong. However, it has grown on me tremendously – maybe even to my favourite perfume, and now I wake up in the morning looking forward to inhaling this delicious resinous concoction. It feels more complex than the other incense based perfumes I’ve tried, and without that kind of dry & sweet frankincense in perfumes like Cardinal / Avignon / Montale-Full Incense… give it a couple of goes to get used to it before deciding. This and Armani Prive – Bois D’Encens are my favourite incense perfumes… So happy to find this – Phoenicia in the same vein is also delicious!

I just received samples from Heeley.
I was looking for incense perfume so long and this one complied my expectations.
There are so many resins in it, the rose also fits and makes this perfume smoothe.
I can wear it all day and all seasons.
I am so happy, I found my incense perfume!!
My rate is 10. Great job Mr. James Heeley!

Eau Sacre makes me swoon. I sadly finished my sample, and now I don’t know what to do. Buy another sample I guess, because I can’t afford the 200+ dollar price tag.

Cardinal was my first fragrance by Heeley and I was quite impressed with the quality and feel which prompted me to try more from the line. I ended up blind buying Eau Sacree in the hope for owning another great incense fragrance and I wasn’t disappointed… but, yes there is a but… I already have Cardinal and this is in no way different to that.
I don’t know how to describe the smell, I just haven’t smelled anything similar to it. There is a kind of sheer oily thing going on with it which supposedly makes it last longer but Cardinal and Eau Sacree are basically the same fragrance in different bottles with maybe slightly varying concentrations. It is redundant owning both and it’s okay to have one or the other. I really like Cardinal but Eau Sacree is slightly preferred over it because it has a slightly more powerful silage becoming closer to the skin around the 4 hour mark and they both last equally long on me which is a surprising 8-10 hours and I usually have complaints about fragrances not lasting.
By the way, this is not even remotely related to L’air du desert Marocain in any way. The only other fragrance it compares to is it’s sibling Cardinal so please do not allow yourself to be mislead by comparisons to other fragrances.

Well, its correctly named. A major incense/myrhh/labdanum opening. It does remind me of other intense spicey fragrances. A sweeter, more resinous Andy Tauer Moroccan air immediately sprung to mind but also of one of the Oriza L Legrands. Intense incense and spices. It’s warmed up with the rose. The musk works it’s usual magic of rounding and softening notes. The vetiver gives some kick whilst the patch grounds everything.
If I didn’t have the Oriza L Legrand and Andys desert beauty I’d be very tempted to buy a fb.
    Good longevity and silage.

It is very similar to cardinal and it’s scent is better than cardinal with sillage and longevity more but it is so overpriced.
    Anyway I love it.

If you like this style, try Sauf Plein Jeu III-V. My new favorite churchy incense.

Eau Sacree is the best incense scent ever imho. If you like church y incense fragrances such as Comme des Garcons Avignon and Heeley Cardinal, I’m quite sure you will love this one as well.
There’s some similarities with those two fragrances but Eau Sacree is warmer and spicier. Projection is good and it lasts about 12-14 hours on my skin.

Very intense Frankincense-labdanum combo, smells like priests which is find of unsettling. Whereas I feel Montale’s Full Incense feels like it is the whole setting- incense, cold stone, wooden pews, atmosphere. I wasn’t a big fan of the Montale until I compared the two, and Full Incense is much deeper and well blended. I thought I liked frankincense in a major role, and I do, but not as much as Eau Sacree presents it. I have now learned I need other players involved for much needed balance.
Short Version- Too pungent Frankiencense for my tastes, stick with Montale Full Incense, or others for my churchy fix.

It’s sharp and very strong (almost as much as V for Men, but not there yet)

If Heeley’s Cardinal is the scent that wafts from the robes of a prince of the church, perhaps L’eau Sacrée is the whiff of an Anglican curate who’s been weeding in the sage bushes. It’s a tilt in the same direction, enough to make me wonder why, but to my nose, is thinner and less rounded than Cardinal. I’m getting some frankincense and myrrh, and lots of sage, but not much else and longevity is not very good on me, although this is an extrait. ‘Sacrée’ is a somewhat freighted descriptor, conjuring airs of pre-Christian ritual and mystery, so I was hoping for something more, well, grandiose.
