My impression: lots of vanilla, hints of “Angel DNA,” light patchouli, light cotton candy scent. No watermelon, and I’m not sure what mimosa smells like. This is basically Mugler’s take on a fancy, Angel-influenced vanilla. I don’t know why this is listed as an oriental, because if there ever was an oriental vanilla, this would be it.

The essence of seventies childhood summers: head shop patchouli, watermelon, endless all day trips to the beach, Troll dolls, real actual hippies (not hipsters), Dad’s El Camino with push-button presets on the radio.
Tropical Storm Allison (2001) destroyed the neighborhood where I grew up, and FEMA* bought out the land to raze the houses. When I say raze, I mean they even dug up foundations and plants so that NOTHING is there but an empty street. I have almost no relics from my childhood, just a couple of small toys and a Frito Bandito eraser. Eau de Star recaptures so many smells from then, it’s like TIME TRAVEL for me to smell. It’s the scent of all my seventies childhood summers.
Light Angel scent + watermelon. How could it not be groovy? If you find a bottle in which the perfume has turned pink, buy it anyway. It’s still good. Mine faded from blue to light pink last year, still smells wonderful.

You know how when you salt watermelon, it explicably makes it seem sweeter and juicier? Eau de Star is that in a bottle. I don’t get any patchouli or really anything else in this besides a very realistic, summery watermelon. I’d call this my future summer scent but we’re having unseasonably warm weather here in SoCal so I’m getting to know Eau de Star a bit early.
Edit: I’m revisiting this in the ACTUAL triple digit SoCal summer and getting a lot of hippie shop patchouli!! Wow! There is much more depth to this fragrance than I thought there was. This is a big LOVE for me!!

Maybe my best purchase ever, despite the blind, quick buy factor, from Budapest’s airport. The subtle Angel DNA with aquatic tones and a musky drydown became the perfect combination for winter 2009. Eau de Star was very appealing to men, offering me a bunch of compliments whenever wearing it. I was truly sad when it was discontinued, I would more than definitely buy it again.

Eau de Star is discontinued for some years, but I recently purchased a sample of it. Its age might be the reason the first spray is very sharp and alcoholic. Not sure though, maybe it’s just the way it smells…
After 1-2 minutes it calms down and becomes beautiful. There is some undeniable Angel DNA in it, namely the patchouli in all its earthy, dirty, almost musty but also chocolate-like facets. I also get a nice warm honey note, and lots of delicious juicy watermelon and cool aquatic notes.
It’s a very special blend of earthy-dark, sweet and refreshing. I love watermelons, they’re one of my favorite fruits, and I think this is the most unique take on them I’ve smelled in a perfume so far.
When I first tried this I already searched for bottles on ebay, but now after the third trial on my hand I think it’s not for me. I think you have to really enjoy Angel-patchouli AND aquatics to make this work for you. To me, it feels too cold or too dirty at times. Also the alcoholic opening makes me a bit wary of buying an old bottle.
I like it and I’ll keep my sample and try it again in summer though.

A very classic scent. Sweet honey and patchouli dominating the first minutes and then you can smell the water, or a sea water maybe because it smelled fishy to me. Still has the Angel DNA, just a little bit lighter n easier to wear maybe because the watermelon n water notes.

    At first
    Sweet, honey, patchouli, wood
    Then after a while
    Vanilla, melon, water?
    In the end
Dusky, maybe a dried watermelon, warm.
Overall impression before reading the notes was warm, sweet/thick, spicey, some herbyness/woody. I know there would be fruit, but couldn’t discern what.
I’m used to the watermelon being in fresh types of fragrance which I prefer, but this blend is interesting and pleasant.
I hated this when I tested six months ago, the cooler weather brings out the sweat in the patch.
Now in full summer I get more notes, this blooms and changes.
I’m not free of fear if this gets on the wrong type of fabric as that patchouli teeters on the sweat/not sweat border, the woody patch is maybe ten mins then it gets better.
    — the cooler weather must keep the patch hanging around.
Original angel just hangs around like a semi friend that just wont f*%k off. I would be open to testing it again, on its own, on my arm. Same with alien. This one has definitely changed with the seasons.
POINT OUT. I don’t know if the fact I can smell the melon and aqua is a result of my reading the reviews more closely and the accords – but I think it is. TRY IT WITHOUT READING ABUOT IT, LET YOUR INSTINCTS GUIDE YOU, I got warm, spicey, killer patchouli sweat. The sweat part didn’t get to sweat like last time so I’m still eyeing it suspiciously.
I did a past review for it too
A cheap semi dupe might be Rihanna rogue as it has a sweet warm duskyness to the mid and end notes.

Thierry Mugler’s Eau de Star bottles up that summer you spent with the bleach blonde stoner cutie who carved a bong out of a watermelon.
Fresh and wet and high and unforgettable.

  10. :

There is something very comforting and retro about Eau de Star.
Eau de Star opens with a burst of creamy, black pepper. The mimosa spins sugary, sweet, and softly just behind this pepper accord. The mimosa quickly bows out while this creamy black pepper turns very sharp and almost green. The watermelon rind/aqueous fruit note surface and battles with the sharp black pepper.
Eventually the watermelon rind/aqueous fruit note are subdued by the black pepper only to be replaced with a tame honey note.
Eau de Star is unquestionably unisex. Even with the abrasive, Thierry Mugler style black pepper note. I wouldn’t question if this was a men’s or women’s fragrance. If I smelled it on a woman, I’d figured she was wearing a sweet and spicy perfume. If I smelled Eau de Star on a man, I’d figured he was wearing a spicy cologne with some sweetness. I just know that I completely enjoy Eau de Star each time I wear it.
I will say that if this gets on your clothes, your clothes will smell like watermelon hard candy (not Jolly Rancher, just generic, cheap hard candy) the next day! Very sweet and cool smelling.

I will always love eau de star’s big sister angel but she can be an over bearing bitch after awhile…while little sister is sassy but has such a sweeter gentler caress. I love the watermelon and patchouli mix such a unique combination. This has to make a come back and not in the watered down weak version that have been showing up again lately.

  12. :

    5 out of 5

Eau de Star is unpredictably nice.
Who would have imagined that patchouli and watermelon could smell so good?
The boozy and overbearing sweetness in Angel EDP is gone and replaced with watermelon. Amazingly, for such a delicate note, the watermelon is really prominent yet so very well balanced.
If there is one thing we can trust Mugler for, it would be its battery life and projection. And it is no exception for Eau de Star.
    Love it!

I hated this when I first sniffed it but then the first notes wore off. It was heavenly! I wear this everytime when it’s raining outside or in a cold windy day. It’s warm and comforting but sexy at the same time.

This one was one of the very few Thierry Mugler perfumes that didn’t give me a headache. The balance and the contrast between the sweet and the sour, the cold and the hot notes, were perfect. Sillage and lasting power were very good. I do not understand why did they discontinue it.

  17. :

I used to wear Angel in the 90’s and see the family resemblance.
Somebody said this smelled like swimming in a forest lake surrounded by flowers. Unfortunately not on me. Am I the only one who gets something like dill?

  18. :

    3 out of 5

Yes, the watermelon is very detectable in an unripe rind sort of way. I feel it could be a spicy patchouli that might be giving off the peppery vibe.
No one else mentions the mimosa. That is the one note that screams to me the loudest which is a dealbreaker for me. The patch is super loud while the watermelon is loud enough but i feel this is a cool & powdery fragrance.
The mimosa is what make this compostion even less reminiscent of Angel besides the watermelon & aquatic note.
Incredible sillage with super longevity. The smell of one spray on the back of my neck left a heavy impression on one of my jackets for 3 weeks right up until i washed it.
Just like Angel, i would prefer to smell this on someone else rather than myself wearing it all day.

I LOVE Angel, both edp and edt , and really like a lot of the other Thierry Mugler perfumes . Eau de Star is no exception. This one is like a juicy patchouli (weird, I always think of patchouli as being something very dry) dipped in salty seawater and marinated in watermelon juice. But in the best way possible ! Projects well and last forever . The bottle match the rest of the Angel ranch, but I think the juice gets yellow rather quickly. It does not affect the scent , but it makes it look uglier. A shame . A cute detail with the little blue rubber star floating around inside the bottle 🙂

I just got a triple order of this little gem in the mail.
I had always thought of this as my signature scent and when it became discontinued I tried Chopards Wish but it wasn’t the same.
    THIS IS NOT WISH.
    THIS IS NOT ANGEL.
if it was like Angel I wouldn’t be so devastated that it’s discontinued.
This is watermelon Aquatic pepper heaven with a dry down of divine Vanilla and honey.
IMO this was discontinued because the juice fails to hold it’s light blue colour and turns an off putting yellow. (all 3 of my new purchases are yellow)
…however it alters the scent not at all.
Thank godness as I adore this and am so pleased not to have to save my precious few last drops for a special occasion.
and on that note,(pun intended) how good is the silage and longevity for an EDT?
    Fantastic that’s how.
My little Star is mine again.

  21. :

    4 out of 5

Eau de Star is a trippy little Angel varietal. I’ll have to try it again, but this is my initial impression.
Right out of the gate I could detect most watery watermelon ever, coupled with the signature Angel patchouli in a very zesty, “juicy” form. I love the opening, but it lasts for about three minutes in that state. Soon, the intriguing water notes settle and vanilla rises up to accompany the still-dominant patchouli note, adding more smoothness than sweetness to Eau De Star. I like this stage too. Captivating.
…Then this fragrance turns on me. A peppery note kicks into gear and suddenly Eau de Star smells heavily herbal and sour, reminding me of the moldy dumpster facet found in original Angel. There is still an underlying sweetness to Eau de Star, but it seems to make the dumpster smell like it’s being baked in the sun. The unique watery freshness that I liked dies, and the worst parts of the original Angel appear and decide to hang out together, like a group of trolls, in the drydown.
Sour and sweet at the same time, and toggling between fresh and decomposing – Eau de Star is just not pretty to me, and certainly not summery. It’s gotta be my skin chemistry wrecking something here, or maybe my bottle was off? If only the fragrance would have been like the opening all the way through – I would have been on my third bottle by now!

I am a die hard Angel, Alien and Flanker fan. At first I dismissed Eau de Star as a weak Angel, however it is in a class all of its own! That watermelon just stands out and is succulent! The patch is a lighter note, in fact it is all lighter, but still delectable. I currently have 3 back up bottles lol, but I am getting them early before the price really goes up as it is discontinued. If You enjoy Angel, but are looking for something lighter along the same lines, try Eau de Star! Perfect for Summer too!

Angel halved, but with the addition of some aquatic and pepper notes. Sweet, but not sickly or too girly. There’s a bit of Womanity in the background. It’s a bit of a mish mash, but pleasantly so. Nice enough, but having known and loved both Angel and Womanity, I won’t be rushing out to buy a bottle.

  24. :

This was nice, I did prefer this to Angel in a way, lovely sweetness of honey, without being too sickly

i LOVE this and i LOVE the weirdness that is Thierry Mugler – perfect perfumist for a misfit and ‘weirdo’ such as myself. This doesn’t smell comparable to anything else, it smells like its own yummy self that doesn’t require a label! <3

Apologies if this hits a sore spot with some, but this stuff is horrendous. My mom bought it for me a few years ago, thinking it was Angel. I sprayed it on, and wanted to “toss my cookies.” It smelled so awful I immediately had to take a shower and wash my clothes. To me, this smells nothing like Angel. It smells like awful restaurant soap! Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me. None of my friends even wanted it when I tried to give it away. So, it went in the trash. Such a disappointment. My suggestion; go with Angel.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

The opening comes right out and slaps you in the face with sticky chocolate patchouli. It’s dripping with sugar; must be the honey? Then comes the vanilla underneath and a slightly salty hint of watermelon. This is a really odd scent. It’s weirdly balanced and I can’t really describe what the overall effect of these notes together is. The only comparison I can really make is to the opening of TF’s Black Orchid. The opening of that scent was very weird to me and Eau de Star smells as if Thierry Mugler simply distilled those top notes into a different bottle. Very sweet and definitely not my thing. If you like gourmands and more off-the-wall scents, this is for you. If you can’t handle sweet, stay away! This one will rot your teeth out.
EDIT: for what it’s worth, this has ABSURD longevity. When I tested it I accidentally sprayed about 5 sprays into my carpet trying to get the nozzle going and my room still smells strongly of Eau de Star whenever I walk in. It’s been at least 3 weeks.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

The patchouli really slaps you in the face at the beginning (and sadly patchouli and I aren’t perfume friends).
Then the sickly sweet comes in to settle the patchouli but it has it’s own issues and even though it helps the scent a little bit neither of them really cancel the other out or compliment each other.
There’s something slightly peppery in this and yes ever so slightly aquatic. The drydown smells a touch similar to CK Reveal but I prefer Reveal.

I’m not an Angel fan, I liked it but found it too sweet. STAR is Angels classy older sister, Watermelon is nice but black pepper steals the show. Hands down my favourite scent. A real pity it is discontinued, hopefully we’ll see a re-release.
    this was my signature scent.
update: I found the old bottle still had a drop in it.
How is Black pepper not listed?
Lovely watery black pepper. with a dash of sweet.

It used to be blue, but it turned yellow.. Smell is still there though.
Doesn’t say there’s pepper, but it sure smells like it 🙂 Very nice and fresh.. It took me a while to get used to it, but since it turned yellow I like it more :/

Love at first sniff. Has a slight resemblance with L`eau par kenzo pour femme. At least in the pepper accord. Smells divine on my skin!! A must have. For me is clearly unisex

Hnusná medovo-melónová “voňa” bez štipky inšpirácie a spojitosti s anjelsky zvodnou a magickou ANGEL. Nehodí sa mi ani ako sprej do wc. U mňa zásadný DISLIKE.
ps: je to tým, že nenávidím melónovú…?!

  33. :

On me it opens like a watermelon JollyRancher (super sweet hard candy) then Muglerpatch jumps in, HUGE as ever, then something salty emerges… not a pleasant combination w/ salt and sweet AND patchouli? Very odd. Not for me.
    [11.29.14]
ETA: I’ve tried a different sample of it and this one smells different. I think this one may be particularly subject to changes with age. The sample smells like a musk lollie, much more patchouli than the other and no saltiness. Still, I don’t care to smell like musky hard candies but perhaps someone loves that scent!
I’m really beginning to wonder why so many Mugler samples smell so different than fb’s. I LOVED Garden of Stars Rose til I got my fb and it smelled totally different, still sealed new in box. I almost wonder (hope?!) they actually get better with age??

If this scent was a song, it would be Malcom McClaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra “Call A Wave”. Melon, sea salt, patchouli plus a host of sweet stuff, maybe candyfloss. Mermaid hippy convention meets bubblegum chewing surfer dudes. My descriptions are a bit weird like this scent. I don’t get black pepper. I preferred it to the original Angel EDP. It never had that stale smell but sometimes this one smelt a bit sweaty on me too. Sheesh. Funny how other reviewers get sweet or stale. Amazing to read the different reactions it’s really interesting!

  36. :

How Black pepper is not listed as a note is quite strange to me. I got this fragrance heavily discounted here in Australia so i thought i may aswell blind buy it.
The opening is a rush of pepper as well as the signature patchouli of Angel we all know so well.
When it settles it becomes a fresher version of the original with the honey and vanilla giving it a dash of sweetness.
Personally i think you have to be a fan of the original to like this, so for me it is wearable but i can’t see myself ever reaching for it other than when i feel guilty because it won’t get any use.

  37. :

Eau de Star smells similar to the original Angel but with a bit simpler, cleaner fragrance. It’s like Angel and Marc Jacob’s Daisy had some glorious love child.
The patchouli and vanilla are there, but the complex gourmand ingredients have been substituted with honey, which gives it a really deep, creamy sweetness, and watermelon, which gives a certain ozonic freshness.
So overall it’s a really sweet, fresh patchouli fragrance. I really like it.

This one i had seen so many negative reviews but still went & bought this. This fragrance is different not many can or will wear it. I have been wearing this for the last 2 days & i’m impressed.
Is it aquatic may be but a very different one, Has it got any resemblance to Angel probably u will smell it every now & then. The dry down is beautiful. Has got the same projection & longevity but some how it dies down suddenly at about 10hr mark.
I would say this fragrance is a definite try.

I’m a Mugler fanatic. Every one of his fragrances I hated at first, then LOVED later on. I just received my sample of Star and…so far all I smell is dog puke and watermelon…
I hope this is a good sign…the more repungent I find it at first, the more I like it later? Please let that be the case. I’ll keep you updated on this journey!!
Update: Nope, it didn’t get better 🙁 I literally almost puked myself a few times. I’m sorry, this is the only Mugler fragrance I don’t like. Maybe it just doesn’t mesh with my body chemistry? That would be odd considering the fact that all other Mugler fragrances smell divine on me. I’m not giving up though, I’ll try it again and again. Hopefully it will be a delayed falling in love reaction.

SUPERB summery perfume, another unique creation of Mugler house. Genius mixture of patcoulli, watery and sweet notes which last long. It will not suffocate you like Angel but it will up-lift you with this peppery wonder. I love this unique feeling which will accompany you the whole day. The bottle is lovely too. Good Job!!

Eugh – after a couple of weeks I can say I hate pepper. This and Si Lolita from Lolita Lempicka are awful. They won’t really offend anyone I guess but they are very sharp, and to describe this as ‘warm’ is totally off.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

Don’t get the weird, heavy pepper, unsummery type reviews. This like a very soft, sweet version of Angel. Not weird at all, very sensual. Like a feathery soft, fairy rather than an Angel.
I would class this as a playful teasing scent of is she innocent or is she sexy?
Reminds me of another perfume I have smelt before. Not sure what!

  43. :

I agree with Lyon below; this is indeed a strange one! Definitely have to be in a certain mood to wear it. The image that immediately popped into my head on first spray is a bottle of blue raspberry Jones soda, with pencil shavings (something slightly peppery?). It’s very sweet, like artificial blueberry, and somehow fizzy and edible-smelling. I’m actually surprised that the main fruity note listed is watermelon. While I smell that, I think that it definitely smells akin to a blueberry or blue raspberry Jolly Rancher. A few hours in, the floral and honey notes make a stronger appearance and start to take the fragrance back from the fruity syrup/hard candy smell. Finally, I mainly smell patchouli, which, as a user below said, brings to mind incense and bohemian-ness. It does indeed project and last. Curious to see how others react when I wear it. Haven’t decided yet if I love this, but big props for the unusual-ness of this scent, as with all Mugler creations!

  44. :

Is the liquid in this bottle meant to be brown/green in real life? If not – don’t get this from Priceline Australia; it’s obviously old!

  45. :

    4 out of 5

Now this is a weird one. I love it but sometimes I need a little effort to pull it off. It is certainly not summery at all, actually I wear it as my signature for winter/autumn days, so don’t be fooled by the “eau” on its name, this is heavy. Anyway, “Star” is pleasant, comforting and it really makes you stand out. Warm but humid and somehow dewy, unique like everything Mugler put his name on. Once you spray it you have a sweet fruity-aquatic but also bitter and minty cloud engulfing you all around. It has pretty crazy sillage so make sure to strategically spray it once or twice, not more (not on spots like your chest, or any near your nose, otherwise you might get diabetes due to the honeyed-minty water from the firsts hours). That being said, “Eau de Star” is delighful once you have tamed the beast – maybe her mother’s DNA inheritance? Also, unisex and compliment getter, as usual with this brand.

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Bought this as a blind purchase after reading reviews – I love Angel, Angel Rose and Taste of Fragrance Angel but this is not at all reminiscent of Angel on my skin at all. I get lots and lots of black pepper – no sweetness on the dry down – I think I will grow to like this but generally it is not sweet enough for me –
Can anyone tell me why some of the Eau de Star are yellowish and some bluish?

  47. :

    3 out of 5

Strong but unobtrusive scent, sweet, with prominent patchouli, but somehow ‘frozen’, like water turned to ice. Very modern, I think, interesting orient, extraordinary in this family.
My cousin used it when she visited me, and she reported that several people asked her on a bus ‘what perfume do you use? So beautiful…’
I’ve never got so many compliments within an hour, so possibly this fragrance worked even better for her than for me.
I don’t find it similar to Angel. All in all, Angel is sweet magical madness, and Eau de Star is sweet modern orient.

  48. :

    4 out of 5

True to it’s name, eau de star is certainly a more watery and fresh version of angel. You might almost wonder where the similarities even lie if you’ve never smelt this before judging by the notes.
Let me tell you, I knew it as soon as I got it in the mail because the spicy smell was permeating the packaging. The spicy angel reminiscent patchouli is serious business and it’s here to stay.
Eau de star is a mouth watering juicy and spicy fun fragrance. The fragrance smells like a freshly cut watermelon, just dribbling out with that sweet stuff in every spray.
The honey note that comes out in the middle adds a gooey almost too sweet element but works surprisingly well with the watery fruity notes. It dissolves well into the mixture just moments after it arrives.
The patchouli and fruit ring loud and clear the whole fragrance, the honey sticks around too after it is introduced in the middle. I hardly smell mimose and vanilla, maybe barely detectable in little whiffs.
Great fragrance for a summer night party

I LOVE loud scents! Seeing the reviews here – I am gonna order it soon as possible! I remember when I used to wear Kenzo Jungle elephant
years ago, at work i would hear somebody shout at the bottom of the corridor ‘Nikki is coming – can smell her but have not seen her yet!” 🙂

This smells like sweaty hippies who have just indulged in elicit drugs…
I mean this in the best possible way…
I like to ware this when I am feeling rather bohemian…

  51. :

To start off I really like, almost love this but it is a weird one, a very strong, sharp scent.
First smell from the bottle was straight black pepper ???
After applying I get water, pepper and patchoulli, very sharp and strong.. Slowly some sweetness comes thru, the honey, vanilla and saffron.. If there is watermelon its totally covered by the other scents.
Same vibe as Angel but not really anything like it, where Angel is sweet caramel sugar this is sharp black pepper.

  52. :

I buy this fragrance over and over again. With my skin combo I receive a lot of compliments on this fragrance. Yes it is intense so it is more a fall/winter scent. It can cut through the cold air like a sharp knife. I love it!

  53. :

    3 out of 5

On me this was a strong, masculine patchouli with something sweet and rotten underneath. God bless anyone that can pull this off. I think it hated me.

  54. :

    3 out of 5

I think this one ruined aquatic scents for me forever. I liked it at first, but it quickly became overpowering. The sweet notes were too much, and the aquatic note, instead of balancing it, just added another strong scent on top. I would never dream of wearing this in public! WAY strong! It really grossed me out after a short time, and now if I smell anything aquatic in a perfume it reminds me of Star and turns me off.
I think my chemistry doesn’t do well with strong scents in general. I loved original Angel right up until the moment it hit my skin, lol.

This is a tricky one. I know quite a lot of people who find this a very offensive scent, and I can kind of see why. It’s loud, in-your-face, it really loves attention and can be a bit intrusive. On the other hand I do occasionally get compliments from random strangers when I wear this. I rather like it myself, it is a bold, interesting fragrance that isn’t afraid to take up a bit of room. To me it smells like liquorice all-sorts which I love – every now and again, just like this scent. I got a full size bottle at work when I had a job with a fashion magazine (those were the days) and, unlike some of my colleagues, was quite happy to take it. But I don’t think I’d ever spend my own money on this or ask for it as a gift. I like it but I don’t love it. Which is a bit weird as it seems such a love-it or loathe-it perfume, yet I’m very much firmly in the middle.
I would recommend this to women who don’t mind making a strong impression, who like very strong bold scents, and who like those scents to be sweet sweet sweet (Boom! Honey – Whack! Vanilla – Kepow! Watermelon). In a way it reminds me a little bit of Kenzo Jungle Elephant. Not that it smells remotely similar, and I do think Elephant is by far the superior fragrance, so unusual and interesting and well-blended. But they are *there*, there’s no getting around them, they don’t apologise for anything. They definitely require a confident wearer, and both are projection and longevity heavy-weights. Sillage of Eau de Star could be described as monstrous so please apply with caution.

smells like watermelon first, then licorice
the licorice feeling is a combo of sweet and a little bit bitter
it claims to be a mouthwatering frag, it really is.
very very long lasting, only 2 sprays are enough
so it seems that you can use a 1.7oz one forever!

I like the original Angel but don’t wear it. It is just too sharp and explosive. I usually love Oriental perfumes and find florals lacking in depth and warmth. Finding a summer fragrance is very difficult for me and I really dislike all the newer versions.
Then I tried Eau de Star. I like it. I have no idea why. It’s a tease really. I smell the aquatic notes and the patchouli notes and maybe the vanilla. My nose just keeps sniffing away trying to figure it out. To me it is a dewy summer morning or better yet a sticky summer evening by the pond. It’s not for everyone but I’m keeping my bottle and enjoying it. Oh, and if you want a perfect combo plate, order the original Angel with a spritz of Eau de Star over it…. very nice indeed.

I didn’t have a very high expectation to Eau de Star as the list of notes doesn’t seem to be that promising. Like many have pointed out, it opens like Angel washed by sea water. The chocolate vibe from the original is brought away by waves. What’s left is sharp, raw, loud patchouli soaked in salty water.
Then I get some whiffs of watermelon. And to my delightful surprise, it smells very close to real juicy watermelons, just like those we eat in summer. At the same time, the sharp patchouli quickly mellows, and completely disappears after 2 hours. The whole scent now turns from green-aquatic to a creamy salted honey-vanilla. The salty aspect makes it smell almost like salted caramel or popcorn, but in an elaborated way like, for exemple, Prada Candy. Watermelon is still detectable, and pops out here and there. I never thought of combining dewy watermelon with creamy honey and vanilla. It’s still wierd, but in a bizarre harmony, like Minor accord in music.
The sillage is good, I get whiffs from time to time without suffocating. The longevity is at least 7 hours. To me, it’s a fragrance with unusual combination and it works well. After wearing it for several hours, I honestly think it is quite remote to Angel though it might have got some inspiration from it. Eau de Star is warm to my nose, but with unmistakable summery aura. Definitely worth at least a try.

I was also amazed at the fact that the watermelon smelled authentic. A lot of fragrances tend to make that jolly rancher smell of a watermelon. I smells like the puddle of juice that’s in the rind after you devoure the entire slice.
