This is truly lovely and may be what cements Hermes as one of my favourite design houses for fragrances. Just really simple and citrusy with a faint synthetic amber zing that really kicks into delicious territory. I don’t know if passionfruit is really in it, but it smells like it…

Like most offerings from this line, Eau de Mandarine Ambrée is very simple, and very, very good. I can see why it is compared to Orange Sanguine: the mandarin note in this one is wonderful, exceptionally juicy and lifelike, just like the orange note in Atelier Cologne’s orange scent. And it goes so perfectly with the powdery, slightly candied sweetness of the amber-passionfruit combination in the background. Really delicious, and quite versatile too – light enough for summer but sweet enough for fall as well, and perfectly unisex. Longevity isn’t bad either, for this genre: it retreats close to the skin after an hour or two, but there it sticks around for most of the day. Full marks!

A very refreshing zesty orange frangrance with a hint of tropical passion fruit and spicy amber; sadly dies out in performance after a vivid mandarin orange opening that lasts around 2 hours. Solid all season citrius frag none the less, Pricing is fairly steep for a designer cologne and is definetly pushing entry level niche territory at $130 for 100 ml.
If you like oranges or refreshing citrius frangances give this one a try.

Funny, this smells like a precursor to Voyage d’Hermes Parfum from some bygone era. Less sophisticated, more glamorous, more natural smelling, more ambery, less smooth, less blended. For some reason I’m also getting Brin de Reglisse vibes. If a younger man or woman wears Voyage Parfum, an older man or woman wears this.

I absolutely adore this. It’s so fresh and unique, yet not in any way weak or ‘thin’. It actually has a surprisingly full character, considering the very few notes contained in it. Smelt it and had to buy a bottle straight away – A must for any summer day for me.

I have never owned or even smelt anything like this in a perfume until now.I’ve been wearing L’ Ambre DM and Elixir DM the last few weeks , found this in a huge 200 ml bottle at a fantastic price so snatched it up without too much thought since I love the others so much and how can you go wrong with a little more citrus and amber!!!!
Its a warm winters day today In South Africa and I’m wearing this Jem. Love the opening of sweet mandarin’s and the amber warms this but ever so slightly … it is an absolute delight in winter (sunny day at 22 deg cel) I can only imagine how gorgeous this is going to be in the summer.
This is very potent for a EDC , more like an EDT.
Hmmm I wonder what this will smell like layered with L’ambre ??

Eau de Mandarine Ambrée is sweet and citrusy with faint greenness, it’s very smooth and never harsh on my nose. Mandarin and passion fruit combo seems to me bit like sweeter grapefruit, if I didn’t know it was those two I would have thought of it as grapefruit with more sweetness and something else that I could not get my nose around. As time goes the faint greenness that I got at the beginning fades away and citrus mellows so that the amber can be spotted better.
This is straightforward spring/summer citrus scent, but sweetness seems to extend scents range to slightly colder days I would think it otherwise could do.
Mandarine Ambrée stays in my skin most of the day, but then again most scents do. Sillage is ok, I get wafts of this throughout the day. It’s not one of those “notice me” sillages, but people close to you will notice it. Overall it’s well done sweet citrus scent that is bright and uplifting though nothing new or original.

Mandarine Ambrée has very smooth and natural opening with alive mandarine but in some seconds comes to the surface the equally strong note of amber which brings some warmness. Fortunately the amber is toned down, a summer type of amber smell. The two ingredients mix perfectly to a velvety smooth citrus scent for spring and summer. I can detect a mild and weak bitterness and a discreet pinch of sweetness. The passion fruit is here but not vividly. As time passes, it becomes more alive but stays forever at the background. In half an hour it becomes a mouthwatering mandarine scent.. not so fresh because of the amber note, but perfectly for warm weather. It’s like you have some mandarines in front of you and some sweets, it’s probably a fruit cake in a distance taking whiffs now and then.
In my opinion it has some feminine qualities so it leans more towards women but it can be worn by men if you don’t have problem with this. It’s not overly feminine scent. Personally I can wear it.
The sillage is moderate but quickly (it takes some minutes maybe 4-6) turns into a skin scent with 10cm projection from the skin. So I’d say, it’s soft. The longevity is moderate to heavy which is absolutely remarkable for EDC concentration. Without exaggeration I take at least 6-7 hours of longevity as a skin scent. I wish they had this in EDP concentration..
It’s not a cheap smell for sure but it’s not for me because of soft sillage/projection. I like it a lot and I recommend to try it if you want a discreet and luxurious daytime scent for spring and summer.
If anyone hears from Hermes, just make it a little stronger.. more sillage! You’ll sell more!

Not at all in the same category as the original Hermes citrus Eaux de Colognes, but Mandarine Ambree is a very yummy amber. After the brief citrus opening, it swiftly settles down to a smooth and snuggly wintertime scent. Pretty good longevity, too.

  11. :

Pleasant, sharp, naturalistic citrus, and not really sweet at all, at least on me. A bit simple, though, and all I can think of when I wear it is that I can get roughly the same smell on my skin from peeling a tangerine. Which might be the point.

Very nice citrus note to start, warmed by Amber. Not catching the fruitiness clearly, but it’s there. Very good, but not sure I want to spend money on a fragrance I feel ‘meh’ about. Probably a bit too masculine for me.

A really well done mandarin. Goes well with the tropical passion fruit too. I normally dislike citrus fragrances, but this I like. It smells comforting and edible. The simplicity is alluring.

It’s a light purely citrusy scent. Fresh and natural mandarin smell. A product of quality.
Reminds me of some Dior’s citrus scent, Escale a Portofino, which is more complex of course.
A little bit too sharp for me to be one of my top favorites, but what I like about it, is that it has that classic expensive Hermes feeling/scent to it.
More of a expensive body spray kind of scent for rich people.

  19. :

    3 out of 5

I rarely buy scents like this because what this is, really, is a body spray and not a perfume. It’s fresh and very nice to spritz on when you want something to wear in the summer time. It’s unisex too because it’s pure citrus. This is a mandarin scent. It’s delicious. Unfortunately it has a very short life. It’s gone after about 20 or 30 minutes. You have to keep reapplying. It’s also the kind of scent you might use to layer it with other matching scents. Refreshing and sweet. Very nice while it lasts. But it’s up to 130 dollars at Sephora and it sells on Fragrance X for up to 69 bucks so maybe the price is not right for a scent that doesn’t last that long. Otherwise if you like body sprays and want to smell of sweet citrus then go ahead and try this. It’s no Florida Water or 4711 but along the same lines. You’re still better off with Florida Water and 4711 though.

Mandarine zest, orange leaves, a little bit of neroli. Beautiful scent, but..oh so short lived! it is really painful finding something so pretty but so weak. It is gone from my skin in just 15 minutes. Orange sanguine from Atelier has more performance, but where EDMA has a lovely mandarine zest punch, Orange Sanguine delivers crushed leaves, skin and some pulp, with more longevity.
Thank you Gypsy Parfumista for the samples 🙂

A pleasant soft mandarine opening, but departs almost immediately from a fresh citrus feel as the deepening, slightly smoky ‘amber’ takes over. As another reviewer noted, this is not a truly deep, resonant, deluxe amber but more like the ambergris you experience via Balmain Ambre Gris. It has, to my mind, the same unsettling, airy, salty, ghostly quality (which I actually dislike with a passion).
The only other Hermes scent I can compare this with is the super-glam 24 Faubourg, which I kidded myself I carried off in the 1990s! No chance! This has the dim distant whisper of an echo of it, a dim distant cousin only.

really nice mandarine,….still after 5 hours i can smell on my skin, but its true that the most trouble and bothering – in a very good Ellena- manner can cause int he first 2 hours. Is like Concentée – you know what I mean… but with mandarine… so Ia waiting to have a good offer will go for this for sure..

So, after being utterly unsuccessful in aquiring a bottle of 24 Faubourg Eau Delicate, I decided to try the new kid on the Hermes block – Eau de Mandarine Ambrée.
Normally, the amber is not my thing; it just does not seem to work with my chemistry. This one, however, is different – it plays very nice!
The initial spritz was like a burst of fresh mandarin, fresh, invigorating and totally go-go-go (a good thing for procrastinators, like me).
Then came the sweet stuff, or, should I say the sweat stuff… That was depressing. I thought, “uh-oh, another one of those great on everyone else, but utter stinker on me” perfumes… But, not a minute later, the fruity amber settled in, in a good way – cozy, with that personal warmth hint, and not at all overbearing, or straight out unbearable.
What a relief! I will be wearing this one after all!
And, I think, I like it even better than Eau Delicate (which was perhaps too heavy on LOTV on me).
The only issue I have with Hermes scents is that they just don’t project or last, at least on me. The Eau de Mandarine Ambrée’s sillage is zero; after less than an hour, I have to shove my nose deep into my wrist to detect it. Longevity is just under 3 hours.
Where and when to wear this? Everywhere and “everywhen”! It is a subtle fragrance, and every-day scent, safe for the office and the first date, any time, any age.
And you know what else? I think, the stuffy socialites who have all the money but no class, should put this in their Social First Aid kit 😉

This is the only Hermes scent I have tried that I didn’t like. There is a faint sweet smell at the top and then it turns into a bitter woodsy amber. It was not good on my skin. Luckily it doesn’t really last very long.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

This is comparable to L’Eau de Tarocco by Diptyque. It’s a little less spicy and slightly sweeter than Tarocco. It smells very comforting without one note being dominant. It blends nicely on your skin.
I’m impressed with the longevity and sillage as well. Still going strong on my wrist after 4 hours, and I do smell it around me when walking around.
Probably best suited for warmer weather, but as with all fragrances, wear them when you feel like it.
    Highly recommended.

This is one of the most natural citrus fragrances what I´ve ever smelled, when you first spray it you get this beautiful authentic mandarine note, then you get this sweet fruity smell with a touch of mandarine still hanging in the background, perfectly unisex, on me longevity and projection are pretty moderate, I really like this fragrance, nothing groundbreaking but a great signature fragrance for warmer weather 9/10

While I do love wearing this scent in the summer there is nothing better than pulling out that gorgeous, heavy orange bottle in the middle of winter to give your spirits a lift. Kind of nice around Christmas – a time of the year I always associate with mandarins and clementines. The amber warms it up and gives it some body – equally nice on a man or woman.

Different, and has more longevity than other Jean Claude Ellena colognes. It alternates between zesty orange and sweet amber on my skin. I don’t think I’ll purchase a fb of this one though.
EDIT: After wearing this more I’ve come to love it. Amber doesn’t usually work well on me, but it’s light in this cologne and blends very well with the mandarin. I like it more in cooler weather, somewhat unexpectedly – and I’m looking for a fb.

Truly something so simple yet so perfect. The manderine just melts into the passion fruit which then transcends into a light and airy amber base. If you haven’t experienced it before it’s worthy of a try. Yes, it’s expensive for an eau de cologne and yes, it doesn’t last too long but most great things don’t. At least you know you can re-spray! Lol!!

  33. :

Clean, transparent mandarine and amber. Both notes play richly recognizable tones that are complementary but unexpected in combination, like a euphonium and an oboe together. The longevity is good. It gets quieter throughout the day, but it remains true to the two notes many hours later.

i don’t know if it s only me that i have to dig my nose in too deep to smell the hermesnes most of them with the exception of some of their old legends ..
the newer ones i seem to be struggling to find the scent hiding beneath the perfume beneath the subtle darkness yet lightness of ingredients i find myself struggling to smell anything and when i do smell its a note or two ok the mandarin is believable a deep peel like smell of mandarins mixed with ambers and musk its a simple connotation ..when i was looking for a mandarin i was expecting something so bright so full so mesmerizing so uplifting this mandarin is dull its ok i guess i mean it has all my favorite notes mandarin amber and passionfruite but its missing life
its a realistic wearable mandarin its a simple well constructed rich smelling mandarin an older mandarin ..it could ve smelled a lot more synthetic .its still on the safe side of the synthetic spectrum even if its all synthetic..at least it doesn’t smell utterly plasticy or cherosine like
on my skin it doesn’t develop beyond my skin i have to keep sniffing and sniffing despite my highly sensitive olfactory senses i still find myself lost looking for its trail looking for its aroma for its radiance and opulence ..al i can find is a subtle classy timid tangarin with a hint of amber good for relaxing at home or meditation or for a spa

Weak garbage and not worth the price but as I can see from other reviews, so many people have no idea of what a good fragrance should consist of and what makes them worth paying more than $30 bucks. This was so easily made by a aroma workshop that its ridiculous. My suggestion is to buy an imitation especially since neither perform well.

This is a wonderful scent that reminds me of my childhood. It’s just like the orange sweets that i used to eat when i was on vacation with my parents in France!
The scent seems to fade away but every now and then you get a nice whiff of it again, hmmmm!
It’s a little sweet, fresh and tremendously tasty!!!
A big thumbs up for me 🙂

Another delightful citrus creation I really enjoy!
It’s simple and linear, but it doesn’t bore me.
Right from the start I smell the realistic fresh and juicy scent of freshly peeled mandarins combined with the sweetness of amber.
As it dries down the amber tones down the freshness of the mandarin a bit, embodying it with a warm and sensual (even slightly powdery) veil.
I see quite a few complaints about longevity and sillage, but on my skin they are really good!!! I can smell this on myself all day without trying!
    Top quality!

Mandarin scent. At first it is fresh and nice, but after some time, unfortunately it starts to be too sour on my skin.
Not for my skin chemistry, I am afraid.

This reminds me of my auntie Valerie – whom I am very fond of, no idea what her perfume is but it smells like a room that she is in. I guess that fits with the “childhood memory” aspect others have mentioned, there is something very clean and familiar about this smell, with a little twist. The mandarin became more orange blossom on me after a while but without that cloying element that usually makes me hate orange blossom scents. Will definitely consider buying this.

I liked the initial orange blast but not the impermanence of the scent, which only existed on my cotton shirt after about a half hour. Poor longevity. I was hoping the amber would extend the experience, but it didn’t.
My daughter and wife both agreed: “Too citrusy.”

  43. :

    4 out of 5

This starts out with a big blast of orange. Later, it started to smell like Hermessence Rose Ikebana to me, but it still had the heavy orange note. I wish it was a little sweeter. I see that Orange Sanguine by Atelier Cologne is a choice for something similar, but that fragrance smells like orange from start to finish.

  44. :

    3 out of 5

I like citrus scents, but, in this case…. :/ It starts with very strong mandarine notes, but quite soon it turns to a bitter, warm and disgusting kind of amber (or a similar thing!) that I never smelled before in an Ellena’s fragrance. :(( I’ll never buy it!

  45. :

    3 out of 5

On me, it smells nothing like the notes or previous reviews would suggest. It does not smell fresh, or like a real mandarin, there is no juicyness or warmth, and it does not remind a cologne either. It’s almost as if I tried a completely different perfume from other reviewers – and I like cologne-ish and unisex perfumes and they usually smell good on me!
All I get, unfortunately, is soap. A hard, dry bar of soap on a store shelf or in a drawer, where it’s been standing for quite some time, dry and a bit bitter. Soap in the beginning, soap in the middle, and soap in the end. Obviously some sort of more expensive soap, scented with something that is supposed to be some kind of sweet citrus fruit probably but does not smell anywhere like the real thing and anyway, the faint fruit tinge is smothered by the blaring soap accord.
    I’m truly puzzled.
It was a cold evening though and my skin was cold when I spritzed myself. Perhaps that makes a difference?

I appreciate Elena’s style although I never felt compelled to wear his colognes, so I was not too eager to go out of my way and sniff the new Eau de Mandarine Ambree and Eau de Narcisse Blue. Based on reviews, I expected to like Eau de Narcisse Blue better as it was described as more complex and intriguing. Also, while I like the natural smell of citruses and mandarins in real life, in perfumery, they can often smell cheap and plain boring.
Thus, I was really surprised that I liked Eau de Mandarine as much as I did. No, it is not complex, but sometimes, and especially in the hot and humid summer, it is exactly simplicity or at least the illusion of simplicity that could be most enticing.
Eau de Mandarine starts out fresh, natural, and downright mouthwatering. This fresh feeling never goes away and while the mandarin note clings to my skin, it warms up even further by the touch of something spicy. I don’t really sense much amber here. In fact, at times, I think I feel even some blond, very light incense. It is a fragrance designed for a steamy, tropical day and is quite refreshing. For a cologne, it lasts pretty long on me. If you are after a fresh and natural-smelling summer fragrance, with just a touch of a warm spice, Eau Mandarine Ambree is worth a try.

  47. :

    5 out of 5

This is a very nice and “sunny” fragrance. The mandarin in the opening smells very fresh and natural. In the drydown, sweet (really sweet) amber envelops the mandarin accord. It smells like juicy mandarins dipped in honey. It projects moderately and lasts over six hours on my skin. Not sure I would wear it, but it’s really good, so why not try it?

  48. :

    3 out of 5

Im wearing this now. A very realistic mandarin accord with a warm spicy, almost incensey amber accord. Beautiful. Year round appropriate. I would especially like this for fall.

  49. :

    3 out of 5

Too much mandarin. I wish it was toned down a bit. Smells like I just walked in a room that just had its wood polished with Orange Glo or when you can’t get that smell of oranges off of your fingers from peeling into the zest. Too linear of a fragrance for me, never develops into something else on my skin; start to finish, it’s the same scent and projects way too much for me for a crisp scent. Narcisse Bleu is so much better. I might have to come back to this in the future to give it a second chance.

  50. :

    4 out of 5

I did not like this one and I was excited; the amber is just too much in it. I feel like it doesn’t have an identity and is confused about whether it wants to be a straight citrus scent or a new take on Eau D’Orange.

  51. :

    5 out of 5

Perfect rendition of fresh, juicy mandarine accompanied by amber that raises the temperature of the zesty fruits and reminds me of hot, golden sand. I think it’s unisex enough to be enjoyed by a man but on me it’s perfectly feminine, fresh and it screams SUMMER.

  52. :

“Eau de Mandarine Ambree” (EdMA) from the house of Hermes is one of those rare scents whose name very accurately reflects the actual composition of the fragrance.
To me, EdMA is about mandarin orange from head to toe, joined by amber in the middle stages of its development. Thanks to its incredibly natural-smelling citric note, EdMA´s sparkling and pleasantly invigorating, whereas the amber softens the whole composition and adds a pinch of sweetness to it. “Delightful”, “joyful”, “refreshing” and “calming” are four adjectives that best describe the effect this fragrance has on me. Being an eau de cologne, EdMA´s longevity, sillage and projection are nothing to shout about, but while it lasts, it is a top-notch summer scent.
EdMA is a worthy addition to the Hermes cologne family.

  53. :

    4 out of 5

It starts with the bitter freshness of citrus, in a pure Cologne style, very close to l’Eau d’Orange Verte at this point.
And it turns to a medicinal mandarin, in a good way. Something quite similar to Mister Marvelous by Byredo, but less aggressive.
It slowly evolve being smoother, sweeter, but never too sugary or fruity. There is something warm in it, but nothing close to amber to my nose.
Very persistent with a nice trail.
And it ends with a discrete and abstract note of passionfruit.
Very nice, very comfortable to wear. Rather manly (in my opinion) because of the top notes, but it can be perfect on a woman too.
