It started as many a good night has, with a big glass of gin. But after an hour or so, the bitter-brightness gave way to an unpleasant, dank odour, reminiscent of mouldy bread. Must be the cloves. Nothing like Earl Grey, which is warm with bergamot and tea leaves.

I came across the Angela Flanders Boutique at the end of the Columbia Road Flower Market by chance. It is such a treasure trove of beautiful unusual scents. I immediately fell in love with Earl Grey. A huge earthy, patchouli impression steeped in exotic spices such as clove and cinnamon. The fragrance is rich and deep. It´s a polarising take on the tea theme but an instant love for me. I just wish it would last that extra hour or so.
