Just smelled this. It’s way better than current formulation. Way different.
As usual, nothing good in perfumery can last.
    Update, comparison vintage vs new:
Old version is smoother, subtler and more leathery and definitely more masculine. Goes towards the direction of Fierce. More originality here, I prefer this one. Longevity however seems to be equal or less to the new one.
New version is by comparison fresher by having more citrus. More cardemum and spice than vintage. This is bad imo because the new one smells very much like Valentino and other similar scents while the old one was more unique.
    Both are however superb!

Dior Homme to me captures the olfactory experience of Ikea furniture or maybe the store, it’s odd, I know. To me it smells refined yet easy going, floral but not overtly feminine. I adore Dior Homme, it has truly become woven into my life.
This is one of the only “mens” fragrances that I wear. Story goes, back in 2005 I was a regular at the Rideau street Bay Fragrance department. On one of my frequent trips I caught a wiff of something really special and very different. I was a poor student at the time so buying a bottle was out of the question.
Three years later, I sprayed some on after my interview with The Bay. The Dior consultant told me this would be my good luck charm. I got the job in the end and bought a bottle.
I am now on my third, which for me is unprecedented. Dior Homme was my signature scent for a long time. I do admit that I haven’t worn it often in the past few years, but recently I have put it back into rotation. I get a lot of complements from coworkers and friends when I wear this. It has great projection and sillage, plus it lasts all day and night.
My bottle is the old formula with the steel rod and after reading reviews I feel lucky to have almost a full 100ml. I will keep wearing Dior Homme until it starts to get warmer then swap it out for Eau Savage. But as soon as the cool weather returns you best believe I’m going to dig this baby out again.

why dior changed this wonderful scent? this formula was a masterpiece but the reformulated is just a joke!

im from manila philippines, bought a 100ml vintage silver stem from a friend that they purchased in it france years back. All I can say is WOW! elegant, sexy and unique. That chocolate vibe with that lipsticky vibe and leather is the best mix! The vintage with silver stem imo is the best smelling batch. Even more versatile and compliment getter than DHI. if you see a vintage silver stem version, dont think twice just BUY IT!

I must admit that I was even luckier than reviewer below 😀 I have first formula from 2005 ! So now it’s 12 years, anyway great scent 🙂

Just scored a silver tube (2008) vintage, new 3.4oz. This will go perfectly with the vintage aftershave splash I found as well. These were required after I tried a sample of the vintage formula. This will be my daily office frag. Finally!

If anyone has a new and unused bottle of the original juice (silver tube), preferably 100ml, I would be very interested in purchasing. Thanks 🙂

I’m a great fan of florals in men’s scents, particularly lavender, and violet/violet leaves. This scent is to Iris what Habit Rouge is to Rose. The Iris is tamed by warm woody and spicy notes. I have a bottle from the original release, luckily I bought a back up very soon after first falling in love with it. There’s a lightness of touch and subtlety here that to me is slightly lacking with the Intense and Parfum versions.

Dior Homme tu me manques !

Absolutely a beautiful and rare man fragrance of the last 10 yrs. very nice contrast of citrus and ambery. Orris just smells ‘money’ in it! Chic and elegant… its a fragrance for men over 30s, in my opinion…

I consider Dior Homme other of the best fragrances created in this century, because they have created a trend in the use of iris as a note in male fragrances, in addition to being well structured.
The version created by Oliver Polge is a fragrance more transparent, I can better feel every note, but at the same time is more sweet and floral than the actual versión. At first minutes it is slightly citrus and herbal, but after it turns creamy, powdery and warm.
It projection is over average and it durabality is very good too. Is better for use in cold weather. It is not my favorite because for me is too femenine, even so I must admit that without doubt is a masterpiece.

I just have to say THANKS to all the lovely reviewers here for bringing me to this scent. When tested in the store, it took me all but 5 seconds to fall in love with it, on the spot. My go-to frag for many years has been Prada’s Infusion D’Iris, and I have used up many a 200ml bottle. However in the winter I find this on the soft side. I have and use Bas de Soie by Serge Lutens, but since I read a reviewer of that scent say that it reminded her of flowers in a funeral home I have lost my appetite somewhat. Reading people praise DH as the go to iris frag, it clicked in my brain: since I find most womens scents wayyyy too sweet/gourmand/adolescent, or too smack in your face oriental or chypre, why not – a superbly crafted “mens scent”.
DH is absolutely gorgeous. I personally find this is more a womens frag than for men, but that is perhaps because my husband prefers really light and modest stuff like a nice Acqua di Parma cologne and would totally not wear this kind of heady woody floral. On the right guy this could be a real head turner though.
Oh and a little added bonus? I feel real powerful at work. Mind trick I guess. Please don’t judge me ;-).

Lovely perfume, Glad I’ve bought a sample
    Powdery and cacao, its awesome
This is a great fall and winter scent, it’s -10C outside and its still projecting strong through the wind
Great longevity 8h+, like I said Very good projection
    Office, dates and formal event
Nice compliments getter (mostly from older women)
would see more a 35 years old + man wearing this (but if you love it, wear it)
    2-3 sprays is enough
    8.5/10

A very luxurious scent and long lasting. I bought it in 2006 and after ten years the liquid perfume change the color like mixed with milk, maybe due to expired, but the smell did not change much.

I don’t have this one anymore, but when I first wore it in 2005, I remember having a little difficulty pulling it off, due to its “femininity” and beastly performance on my skin. It was rich, elegant, and perfectly suited to formal occasions.
Back then, I wasn’t paying any attention to the drydown, but I would imagine it was quality – like the juice itself. In my mind, this is still the epitome of men’s perfume.

The original Olivier Polge version of this fragrance is perfection in a bottle. If you can find it, just buy it.
The best designer masculine of the past 15-20 years. I’ll say no more.

When I decided to buy a bottle of Dior Homme about a year ago, I got lucky and ended up with the original formulation. The 2005 formulation is so much richer than the current one. The iris and leather are both stronger and richer. I have the 2008 and 2012 versions of Dior Homme Sport, and I vastly prefer the 2008 version as well. Thankfully, the original formulation of Dior Homme hasn’t gotten too hard to find if you know where to look and don’t mind paying retail. I have no problem paying full price for Dior fragrances and I plan to get a backup bottle of Dior Homme before it gets hard to find.

I picked up a bottle of this recently. I thought it was the reformulation, but it ended up being the original. I suppose my entry into this line is different than most. I started with Dior Homme Eau, then Dior Homme intense reform, now this, the original is the final one I think I want. Also, I have the new cologne version, but it’s not in this vein at all, so it’s hardly worth mentioning. Dior Homme original is the best, to my nose, of all the blends. It’s just a perfect blend. I’ve heard that said, and I know what it means. It smells of great quality ingredients. It’s got that make up vibe, but more blended to my nose than it is in eau or Intense. In those, that note is unmistakeable, then they settle into something else. This one, the note is stronger, but more blended into other notes. So, it doesn’t stand out because it’s the fragrance itself. There’s a soft chocolate pillowy bedding for this ripe velvety fragrance. It’s not Gourmand though, nor is it too heavy for daily office type wear. I think this is what sexy scents are striving to be, and this one is the best of that genre, by a margin.

I know very well this fragrance, it was my personal fragrance for several years, and this first edition is undoubtedly the best.
The entry of sage, lavender and fresh bergamot (which everyone forgets comment) and this first edition, I felt like a very nice fireworks explosion that anticipated that mixture of cardamom iris that produces that atalcado effect deep aroma. Amber and cocoa together with the mixture just produced this effect lipstick or so characteristic of everyone talking and many dislike makeup, but that to me was what most attracted me.
For me, with subsequent reformulation Dior Homme still there, but lost some of its charm because it was lighter and softer (less intensity and duration). The I felt less sparkling and stopped using it with the habit I used to.
For lovers of the first edition or who want to try as much as smelled like the first edition (ie, the inner cannula carrying the silver) testeen the scent of Dior Homme Intense turns out to be as similar.
Dior Homme when he left in 2005, was to try and bought immediately a bottle (it would be the first of as many more) I found a completely different to other options aroma, somewhat revolutionary to this very ambiguous game of using an aroma “a “feminine and make other scent more inclined towards the male side, because that entry previously mentioned and the important detail to put an agreement vetiver and leather during drying priori (if it had been totally feminine would put it surely vanilla and musk , making it a sweeter or more drying and powdering entry would surely have been more floral).
I remember that first feeling, seemed very attractive, deep, intense, sophisticated.
Wonderful aroma, composition and an advanced fragrance of its time.
    Rating: 9.2

  26. :

    3 out of 5

I enjoyed this one more than the Intense version because this one is more earthy and masculine (but still refined).
The reformulation dropped this fragrance from a 10/10 to an 8 though.

  27. :

    5 out of 5

This original formulation is truly better than the reformulation. The bright iris with citrus in the opening make it a treat every time I spray it on. And as it slowly transforms into the smooth velvety cacao (not chocolate) in the base, it leaves a great sillage that’s always getting me compliments.
Lasts me all day and it’s incredible to smell on the shirt from the day before
    Smell 10/10
    Longevity & Sillage: 9/10

    Hey Frag heads,
I wanted to know a few things before purchasing this fragrance which is the 2008 pre reformulation version of Dior homme with silver collar. Now I wanted to know if this would be the best possible match to the 2005 with longetivity and stronger sense. If someone could shed some light and let me know that would be ever so helpful.
    Thank you

I have smelled this a bunch of times and never really liked it but today I decided to try it on my hand and see what all the fuss is about. I sprayed 3 sprays on the back of my hand.
I really don’t like the opening but to my surprise the dry down is really nice. The projection was really poor and it turned to a skin scent within 2 hours on my skin. I will try the intense version (I would have done today but the store had no testers left.
I doubt I will own this anytime soon. For the money there are much better scents for me.

I tested this for the first time today in a store. I sprayed this on my hand as I had heard that it’s one of those fragrances that needs to dry in to be appreciated. I sniffed this as soon as it went on as a test and it didn’t smell too appealing. As one YouTube reviewer put it, the opening smells like cooked carrots. I found that it smells like carrots cooked in rum, as it is also very sweet and alcoholic at the same time. It’s not an awful smell, but I wouldn’t want to smell like it. Even when it dried in, it didn’t improve much, so I tried a few more fragrances and then left the store.
About 20 minutes later, I suddenly got a whiff of something beautiful. “Someone smells nice” I thought. As I walked, I kept smelling it. Was it the Gucci Guilty Black I sprayed on my other hand? Was it hell.
When I realised it was Dior Homme, I was stunned. How could something that smelled so nasty suddenly smell so incredibly, irresistibly smooth? It had gone from cooked carrots and rum to powdery iris, vanilla and chocolate. I knew I was in love with this scent.
I didn’t buy this today, but just thinking about it makes me wish I had. I will buy my own bottle very soon though as I’m aching to smell it again. It’s nothing short of a masterpiece.
    An easy 10/10

This was not love at first spray for me. I give myself a squirt and could not get over how waxy it smelled. It must have been the iris. Roughly 15 minutes later I got in an elevator and I filled that thing up! And just like that, I loved this fragrance. It had calmed down a little bit, and I felt very very sexy and confident. To this day I still love the stuff but still need to get it into my collection.

As an iris fanatic I’ve gone through many iterations of the note and travelled far to the realm of niche to test some of the most expensive creations. Still, Dior Homme and infusion d’Iris remain my absolute favourites after all the sniffing. One femininely masculine and other androgynous masculine, these two are like the yin and yang pillars of the iris kingdom. Without either of them I wouldn’t know what to do.
On to Dior Homme: I truly love this original version the best. The original is very powdery and tart with a defined leather and sweet cacao smell. The lavender lifts the heavy iris note nicely, and the cacao really gives this a vanilla-like welcoming aroma. It is very plush, but not showy or obnoxious at all. This smell radiates class. The projection and longevity is great, on me lasts around 10 hours and can be smelled within two arm-length. I believe men and women can wear this equally just like any other true masterpiece perfumes.
One last note on reformulation: I own several silver collar bottles and have tested the black ones several times. While both have the same opening the new one seems to have a stronger chocolate-ly leather drydwn and is sweeter while the pre-formation one is more iris-y and plush. I prefer my scents less sweet so old one is the way to go for me.

I’m sorry to hear the formula has been changed. I always enjoyed this fragrance but I could only wear it sporadically. The florals and the powder occasionally made me smell too much sweetness. I ended up giving it away to a friend several years ago and now I wish I’d kept it.

Abso-fucking-lutely amazing, pardon my french. Regardless of gender this is sex-ay. Don’t go flanker, the original juice is the best. Silver pipe, not black. Discovered this thanks to a friend and made him sit next to me all night so I could smell him. Now I get the same reactions from others, this stuff just draws people in, equally sensual on men and women. Woody iris, gentle powder, a shadow of flower, no sugar, all softness. Bravo Dior.

  46. :

    3 out of 5

The leathery opening makes me shiver. Lavender toned down with sage.
The middle is different, mostly sweet vanilla and cacao over dry wood.
In the end, the leather comes out again.
I love wearing it (I favor unisex scents) but I have to admit this would be make a very special statment on a man. At first it’s not feminine as much as feminized, like leather tooled with a floral pattern. A touch of contrast to emphasize masculinity, but ultimately very versatile.

Oh look at that. Christian Grey for Christian Dior.
This fragrance is interestingly enough very floral (iris) despite the fact that it is for men, but it still somehow manages to turn masculine and very pleasant on a man. The pure contradiction it creates is really seductive and sexy. And just for the record, it also perfectly reflects femininity when worn by a woman (what I’m saying is this could be unisex). I love this complex versatility of Dior Homme, because it makes you question what gender truly is when it comes to fragrance! It’s remarkable. A piece of art.

  49. :

I love this fragrance. It’s very different from some of the other fragrances I have, but it definitely has its purpose. My dad used to tell me “it takes a real man to wear a pink shirt.” This fragrance is a pink shirt.

  50. :

To be honest I had so much confidence in this masterpiece as I tested the reformulation instead but got the vintage bottle (due to overwhelming response to a thread I posted on BN) but to be brutally honest I think I enjoyed the reformulation more and I think it performed way better than the vintage. It was more spicy and edgy to say the least but I can’t go without saying that the vintage DH feels more refined and richer.

  51. :

    Amazing!What more can I say.

  52. :

    5 out of 5

I absolutely adore this as a woman but to call this “feminine” or “best masculine for women” (turin guide) I think defeats the whole purpose. Although I wear it often, this perfume truly comes alive when a man wears it precisely because of this unexpected gorgeous powderiness. I get mainly iris, cacao, leather and vetiver. Not a single note is too overpowering, the balance is perfect; it really is an ingenious composition.

I blind bought this on the recommendation of Greggieboy76 on youtube! This is one of my favourite fragrances I own, and by far not the most expensive. This is an absolute bargain for the price, I have had so many compliments when wearing this.
If anyone is going to blind buy… I highly recommend it and just go buy it.
Its light and refreshing, then a nice leathery creamy dry down. The initial spray opens with what I smell as a fresh cream, which I guess is the lavender and citrus mixing together with the patchouli.

I have worn this years ago when it was initially released. Deep balmy lipstick iris with great sillage. I recently purchased a bottle to revisit and truthfully it is still good but does not have the same intensity and lasting power as original formulation. This is a fragrance that stands in a lane of its own with its lipstick iris and smooth white chocolate powdery vibe. A stand out fragrance in reference to designers. Still class in a bottle.

  57. :

How dare the world not tell me what masterpiece this is. Especially three hours after first spray. Wow is it complex. And yet so ‘common’, so familiar, so ‘all good male fragrances smell like this, must smell like this’. It smells just like a man ought to smell. It reminds me of a first boyfriend (though he wore Boss, no idea which one, it was in the early 90s), there’s a similarity. It smells like “dad” (not mine, but a generic idea of ‘Dad’). But it’s much more than just a memory or ideal of how men ought to smell. Especially since I am totally going to steal it and wear it like a woman.

Totally agree with arsenal dude. Had & sadly recently sold a 2005 first batch bottle . Pure class & very similar to dhi but more floral , light & powdery. Puts recents formulas to shame. It’s that much better dior should be ashamed

Ahhh, the infamous Dior Homme! This fragrance epitomizes why i love this hobby soo much! The scent itself is one of a kind and has many different opinions. I for one am on the love side of the fence. Predominately to my nose, an Iris and Cacao combination which is out of this world! When i smell this, class and sophistication are the two words which come to mind.I know some people may find this feminine and i do beleive women can certainly wear it but i enjoy unisex and sweet fragrances so i’m not bothered. I managed to score a Vintage bottle on an ebay auction very cheap and will cherish it for as long as i can. I have smelt the reformulation and to be honest they are nearly identical to my nose so the current version will suffice.

A modern masterpiece from Dior. Like living in Iris heaven.

  61. :

I like this one for me.
Strong bergamot on first application. This then dries to a spicy (mmmm cardamom), woody floral. Iris being the prominent floral note. The amber and vetiver provide the depth against the floral sweetness. I can sense a bitter note in between and a dry leather note. This would be a perfect night perfume for a confident woman. It is strong and dense and not as sweet as the usual floral, fruity offerings (not that all of them are mind you)

  62. :

    3 out of 5

It’s a chocolate iris buttery, yes, creamy creamy. Dior makes a Nutella flavored Iris.
I try first the reform version and the new version is more complete…

I really think that women too can wear this fragrance. I got this one for my boyfriend but I ended up loving it myself. It smells like dry leaves to me. I like the dry bit spicy smell it has. I read it has sage and cardamom, maybe that is what I get the most. But I am ok with that.
It really reminds me of winter somehow. Walking by pine forest on a winter day, that is exactly how I feel wearing this.
It last quite long considering its just an eau de toilette. I also think this fragrance goes beautifully when paired with Lolita lempicka by lolita lempicka.
It smells beautiful both on men and women although it lingers more on the men side. It is one of the best fragrances out there today. A beautiful one for formal ocassions.

A beautyful wood. I had the chance to find a vintage 2006 bottle and wow! One of my best fragrance purchase for a while! I can easily see why Dior homme line has that much succes, and where it begin. It is different from DHI, but u can clearly see that they are close. A smooter version of DHI (of course, it is not the intense version;)), more versatil, woody with least “lipstick” note, but u can clearly smell the iris. A chocolat dry down, smooter again than the intense version. A yr around fragrance, that u can use for office, casual, romantic or night out (i would choose DHI for night out instead of this IMO). A good complément for someone who have DHI and want to have a daily version of it. Great job Olivier Polge for this creation, wonder what could possible be DHI if he was the creator…
    Here is the score:
Smell: 9/10, a beautyful wood, smooter than the intense version.
Longevity: 4/5, around 6 to 7 hours. Good
Projection: 4/5, good projection, u will be notice. A little more than the average. To be careful to not overspray if u use it for office.
Versatility: 4/5, an all yr around, all occasion, a little bit strong for small environnement.
Overall: 21/25, an excellent fragrance. If u can find it at a good price, don t miss that opportunity. You won t be deceived.

Sophisticated and elegant. Woody, musky and floral. Strong dose of iris, lavender, vetiver and leather at the end. At the heart you’ll find sweet elements like cacao … almost buttery. The bottle outstanding. The juice high quality. The ingredients well blended. An amazing fragrance! Kudos Dior

I sprayed this at Sephora and I was instantly SOLD.
This is not a very “manly” fragrance, but at the same time it’s not a feminine fragrance either. This fragrance just smells GOOD. If I would’ve had the cash I would have bought this on the spot.

I smelled this cologne at Sephora and was blown away at the great smell. Sweet but masculine and great for formal or evening wear.

A very pleasant smell and quite unique in the realm of men’s fragrances.
It’s very much distinct from the regular, commonplace
“fresh” fragrances as it is quite spicy, floral and somewhat sweet.
A compliment getter from women, that’s for sure..
    sillage- 6/10
    longevity- 5/10

Classy, so very classy. The opening smells like lipstick but not in a bad way; when I sprayed it onto my skin I thought the lipstick smell added an aura of sexiness; smelling it made me feel like I had just been kissed by a girl in red lipstick. The drydown was great as well, I feel as if it really became powdery; the middle sort of smells like butterscotch to me but not sickly sweet butterscotch, more butter than scotch I suppose.
It lasts like a beast and projects very well as well. Funny thing, I woke up in the morning after having sprayed it on the previous afternoon, couldn’t smell it on my wrist. BUT as I was sitting in my table browsing the net, every now and then I’d get hit with a soft but noticeable milky patchouli smell but when I went ahead and smelled my wrists…nothing. And frankly that was the best part about the fragrance to me.
    10/10

tidak bisa di percaya nih scent keren bener!!! gw salah satu manusia yg beruntung masi bisa dapet nih scent original formulation 2005 di toko offline dgn harga yg sangat terjangkau 100ml pula. gw salah 1 penikmat wangi, gak mentingin SLP. dior homme new reform 2011 mmg punya SLP yg lebih baik, tapi banyak notes2 yg di hilangkan dari nih vintage one. magic in a bottle!!! 9/10!!!

A fleeting bergamot gives way to a strong “make-up powder” iris and thick, stodgy vanilla and leather. I don’t smell much vetiver, or any cardamom or patchouli.
This is frequently used as a bench mark for measuring mens scents labelled as “sweet”, but there are much better vanilla compositions out there for guys that aren’t so gloopy.

I have just purchased a vintage 2005 100ml bottle in near perfect condition. Smell is so luxurious & smooth, but not powerful enough for me. Also my skin seems to eat it. Over 30 hours on blotter/ fabric & still smells good ,but only 3-4 hours on my skin.
I am happy to have experienced the subtle quality in this bottle , but I will stick to DHI .
Please message me if anyone interested in buying it

@masak389 – the point is I really do feel like there were two reforms. The second one smells 99% the same like the vintage with chromed tube and collar. The bottle still looks unchanged since 2011 though.

I own a bottle from August of 2009 and adore it. I get an amazing citrus blast along side the Iris and amber in the opening. If the notes here on Fragrantica are gospel, then the citric note has to be the bergamot. 10/10. A titan.

    In respose to @Marciu:
With Dior Homme we have’t got what usually happens with reformulations. The problem that arose with Dior at the stage that I think the first formulation of Dior Homme (2005) was that the formula and therefo
