Azzaro: A fabulous house but like all the other houses, she also makes flops. An example?
    Decibel.
The opening is beautiful with a wonderful and evocative incense. The licorice and vanilla, on the contrary, kill it. Remains a dry, flat and synthetically sweet (cloying) odor. He knows about cookies, about a pseudo-cinnamon. Rock? NO! I say that comes to mind the figure of Santa Claus.
    ABSOLUTELY NOT!

The bottle is actually really cool. I really like it. The scent smells alot like black licorise but its alot more than that with the lemon and insense. It’s a really unique, dark fragrance. I give this an 8.0/10.

A weird one – BUT I LOVE IT!
ITS A synthetic (an addictive good one) smokey incense with what smells like strong sweet tobacco and red currant or cranberries. That is probably technically the liquorice – its not the anise or aniseed component or the sharp fresh component.of liquorice but more the dry woody part of the smell.
I often have a moment when i’m reminded its a budget purchase and the synthetics get you but then I’m reminded of how it is like a budget rougher (much rougher) version of Parfum De Marly Herod (which has cinnamon, vanilla and tobacco). Its a lot cheaper to spray than Herod.
Oddly addictive because its different and will get noticed. Good projection and silage for a budget EDT!
    Happy Smelling

I don’t like licorice, but for this I’ll make an exception. Beautifully blended sweet and smoky.

I wonder if its still in market
    This was a wonderful fragrance.
Perfect play of sweet and smoke.
The juice no doubt is very uniqe and sexy.
    Good for colder days.
One of the best party wear.

The licorice note is off-putting on a test strip, lingered for hours, but it dissipated quickly on my skin. To my nose, this is very much like Dior Fahrenheit Absolute minus the diesel note and with an added softness. This endured on a test strip for three days, drying down to a balsamic smoky tonka but fades rather rapidly on my skin, gone after six hours. I have some myrrh, frankincense, and benzoin resins and can detect whiffs of all of that in here which the note “incense” encapsulates. There’s also some patchouli. I can’t detect any citrus and if there is vetiver, it blends well with the softer, smokier scents unlike the “stiffness” and harshness it takes on when it’s used as a base in citrus-woods compositions. I’m not familiar enough with florals to identify the ones used, but there definitely are some more masculine floral notes. The “smoke” note is not like burning tobacco, but like the lingering smoke after you’ve burned incense in a small space. This is definitely a masculine scent that performs better in cold weather, and very appropriate for intimate encounters. Sillage starts pretty loud but softens within two to four hours. Could layer well with something sweeter and spicier like 1 Million or Perry Ellis m. I haven’t yet sniffed out how this performs on clothing, but I will probably stick to skin only application to avoid the licorice scent I don’t like.

Sad to see the hate for this fragrance. It is rather unique and I really love the dry-down of Decibel. Longevity is average but not bad.

Weak in longevity, but I really love the scent

If perfume had colours, this would be dark, almost black purple. I didn’t think much of this when my boyfriend first put it on, but now it’s grown on me. Incense, sweetened by licorice, made hazy by violet, brightened with a touch of lemon, brought down to earth by vanilla. It almost smells like a leather jacket. A potion for the mysterious man.

On first spray, this really does smell like church incense! Sniffing closer, the licorice reminds you of opening a package of black licorice Twizzlers.
I was a little worried after reading reviews, but this is surprisingly good! I purchased a 4-pack of the .25oz travel sprays on eBay, but now I’m wishing I had gotten a full size bottle. This is NOT a safe blind buy for everyone, but at its price, it’s really not much of a gamble.
The more it develops, it almost reminds me of fresh tires and New Car Scent air fresheners on a cool, humid, spring day. In a good way, if that makes any sense. I like this more than Dior Fahrenheit, in that regard. It’s reminiscent to driving in your first car with the windows down. Liberating.
I’m looking forward to buying a full bottle! This will sit nicely beside Choppard 1000 Miglia, in my collection.

There’s a reason why all reviews, sow every subject, should only be taken as references only. After all, we all like different things, and on specific moments too, since our preferences changes during our lifetime. In terms of scents, Decibel ia a huge example for me why this is the way it is. This is simply one of the best designer scents ever made, period. Off course, this is only my opinion for this review. Now, I’m a big fan of Azzaro, they are much much better than what most people say. Chrome to me, is still on the top 5 of fresh fragrances ever. But Decibel tó me is a master piece, and years from from now, people will recognize it and will pay hundreds of dollars for a bottle. Please, keep this last sentence in your records….you will see!. Decibel is a simple scent, basically a sweet incense scent, that she it!. But is done so different from anything you have smelled before. Add to that, that every single time I wear it, someone asks me what is that scent?. Lasts a long time too and project starts fairly. Finally, you can get it for some change, which is a consequence of so many people disliking it. Now, don’t thrust my review, after all, is just another opinion. Just try it, put it in your skin and let it breath……and please come back with your opinion. If you go in with an open mind….i’ll bet your opinion will be very similar to mine at the end.

Oh yeah! I love it. Strictly for a cold climate, this unique monster of a fragrance will delight you for a long time, one of my most complimented scents. My winter collection is fantastic!

I wouldn’t wear this in overly hot weather, I dont think, but this is an amazing scent. As we’ve ust recently had a spate of rain and storms, I think I’ll dig this out again and re-review once I’ve tried it.
It’s marketed as being for men but doesn’t have that pungent effect that makes it obvious on some people that A Woman-Type Person Is Wearing A Mens Fragrance.
Here are some notes I copy-pasted from above… and never even dated!
“Smells like ghosts. Outspoken and uite[sic] jarring on my skin for last 3-4 hours. Quite metallic and sweet and powdery.”
Insence/smoky-type notes seem to suit my chemistry well. I got this with a deodorant that I also like to wear.
Slight TMI moment: The deo actually works at making sure your sweat smells OK almost all the time* and complements the scent itself beautifully. It doesn’t clog the pores, though I’m not sure how well it works on people with pits that have never had the hair trimmed/shaved/waxed/plucked/whatever else. It’s milder than the fragrance itself, too.
*Covering my ass because people might smell more or less strong and/or icky depending on millions of factors

I really love this fragrance! Smells so unique, divine and mesmerizing. Fussy people could say it smells like church (because the incense) and use that as an excuse to rate it bad, ignoring the fact that a fragrance has to be weared by a person, and persons has diversity and complex behaviours. And incense note gives you an euphoric effect on others, making them feel like they are about to fall into extasy (like they were on a prayer, a cult). This fragrance is perfect for someone who knows how to talk to others, and make them feel better with his beautiful and poetically words.
I dare to say, this even could make some women feel unconsciously horny, if you behave rightly.
If you want to stand out of the crowd, wear Decibel.

dB is indeed having a very interesting sweet aromatic incense scent. reminds me a much more wearable and comfortable Ruby edition of OMS. it is not an offensive blast of “crematorium” sweetness as Joop!(which easily is mistaken by those who sniff it on me as a female fragrance) dB feels mature and solid, and honestly seems to me to be one of the best Azzaro creations even though not hyped or even a bit popular. i find it as a very nice and non costly discovery. as for performance, Longevity is decent with 10-12 hours on my skin while Sillage is in the Moderate range. making it’s strong impression at opening, but is still nicely projecting after even 4-5 hours, beyond that it remains as close to the skin sweet smokey vanilla. not bad at all and packed in beautiful bottle as well! for it’s price dB is really worth the try.

A fundamentally ill, alternate candy scent for the urban Samurai Ghost surrounded by catholic miasma. Its loud and childish lemon-licorice shot salutation fixes into a creamily indulgent meltdown that imbues the mind with tranquility.

I blindly buy a small bottle online lately without reading comment on Fragrantica. The perfume comes few days later and I spray it for the first time – WOW. I smell soldering smoke, very strong. Its the incense. Faint! I just can’t stand it. The good thing is, this is definitely a masterpiece. Never smell anything like this before.
I want to swap this perfume. I got 25ml EDT, just sprayed once only. Please PM me. When I mention swap, I mean I will send you this perfume for free and you send yours at no charge too. Barter system – exchange.

[woman] I don’t like it. Apart from the fun bottle, the smell is horrible. Incense smoke overload. Like in catholic church on special saint mass. I just can’t imagine my man smell like this.

It may not be a super refined or quality scent on its own but I love it because it is kind of different (loud) amongst the rest of my collection. And I love licorice. That is the main thing I am getting out of it.
Very nice for a definite change.
It may be somewhat synthetic and somehow onedimensional…
    but
    8/10
for a good one in a small niche.

Ever had this funny felling that you smell something and it rubs you wrong way around, but you have this urge to smell it again?
An odd-ball, that’s for sure. The best way to describe this scent opening is that it smells like… church, or rather like incense, which plays the main role here. Along goes smell of something that apparently is an aldehyde combination, kinda fizzy. After couple minutes you get the rest: licorice, vanilla and tonka. Strong, exotic, loud, chocking and quite frankly – intriguing combination altogether. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is soapy-powdery outline.
It’s more of a club or evening scent, but rather not formal – God forbids you wear this to job interview.
The bottle is very nice in my opinion, almost ingenious when you look at 100ml. The whole packaging is the reason why i spotted this frag in the first place. Made impression of something exclusive and I was not disappointed.
I like it, but many people will not. I appreciate it’s exotic outline.

Wow, a nice surprise from Azzaro. Incense smells exotic, not natural but that isn’t a bad thing in this one. Don’t really understand the hate, some people that do seem to like some incense based fragrances from niche houses that personally smell like crap need to stop the hate for this cheapie.

Intense. Powerful. New. But not for beginners. I love it.

So, I can see there is a lot of hate/dislike for this one….I sort of understand it if you wear the fume in 75°+ weather as it can emit a dirty diaper/powder note. However, if you wear it on cooler days, it exudes a delicious soda pop aldehyde with hints of powdery violet and nutty tonka with a gentle, citrusy glow from the incense. It gets sweeter as it dries and becomes more of a woody and creamy tonka with just a hint of airy incense. The fume plays through these notes in waves – it really is quite pleasant and charming, if you let it! If you dislike it, I am sorry, but if you like it, this flashy gent lasts for hours and hours! It might be skin chemistry but this one is all good on me and it puts a pep in my step!

Exactly Azzaro! Decibel. Without an “s”. Which means singular. Which means one. Which means nearly imperceptible and impossible to be heard. Which means that perhaps the tacky microphone bottle was inevitable in order to make the fragrance audible and amplify its voice, by prompting people to have some fun pretending they are singing in their bathrooms while holding it. Because if you were relying solely on the scent’s substance, presence and quality for sales, well, I don’t think so…
If volume, performance and bigger than life personae is what you’re looking for, don’t bother with the backing vocals. Go for the frontmans instead. And erstwhile deafening Azzaro was never in short supply of them till music and perfumery became, for crying out loud, the halfhearted whimpers they are today.

  33. :

    5 out of 5

I find similarities to allesandro dell acqua in the opening. But I bought it for the dry down.
I have to say I think a Rochas lie down type bottle in the shape of a mic would have made people like me try it earlier. If you’re going to go novelty then do it well.
I have yet to test it on the lady. My only other Azzaro is nighttime which she enjoys most and silver black which is probably my favorite.
Edit: tried decibel at below freezing temp and really enjoy it. Like other Azzaro’s it kind of sits on top of my skin and even at one spray, the passengers in my car inquired what it was.
It’s Different, smelling like you put on a Masculine floral and then walked into a cake shop after they baked lemon pastries hours before.

I disliked this one after the 1st sniff. But I decided to give this more tries. Guess what?? It’s as disgusting as the 1st time…The insence is just too strong and the fragrance is pretty linear. So, basically the insence lasts the whole duration..Please test before you buy..

Azzaro Decibel seems to be a polarizing fragrance. I believe it’s due to the over-all execution: the bottle, the hype, the spokesmodel, the combination of notes, the name, etc. It all feels like a desperate attempt to take advantage of and appeal to the audience that One Million made mainstream (the guys moving on from Axe/ guys who just finished their holiday cologne gift-sets)
But enough of that! Let’s get to Decibel.
The opening is extremely soapy. It smells very much like citrus hand-soap. I believe the soap accord is the combo of incense, lemon, and aldehydes. The black licorice is noticeable at the start but plays along quietly in the background. The incense keeps the fragrance rather masculine. The incense is spiced up by the black licorice.
After 30 minutes to an hour, the fragrance finally loses that soap accord and the black licorice and incense continue to play well together. The citrus is still quietly present, but not like in the opening.
Thankfully this fragrance is not extremely powdery. I’d like to say it’s a soft powdery. And the black licorice does not smell candy/edible/gourmand at all. It’s the scent of black licorice without the sweetness. The violet and black licorice complement each other while the incense continues to be the backbone of this fragrance.
The dry-down is where Decibel truly shines and is one of the best dry-downs I’ve smelled. It’s soft, creamy, and sweet. The licorice is still present but ever so soft, the vanilla/tonka combo offer a creamy sweetness, and the incense finally starts to bow out softly. There’s a soft and slightly cinnamon accord which I believe is due to the vanilla, tonka, and licorice. I think most people don’t wait til the dry down (it takes a good 90 minutes). If I ever smelled the drydown on another person, I would just want to snuggle my head and nestle in the sweet basenotes of Decibel. I can’t help but inhale deeply every time I wear this and the drydown appears.
I would recommend this fragrance to someone who enjoys collecting fragrances and has an extra $20 to spend on an unpopular and undeservingly bashed fragrance. It’s a very sweet yet pungent aromatic fragrance. It’s mostly all incense (aromatic), black licorice (pungent), and sweetness (vanilla + tonka).
I would not recommend this to beginners as these notes take a fragrance head to truly enjoy and appreciate the composition.

    I love this one.
After wearing out two roll-on’s in a short period of time, I just got a hold on the edt.
It seems a bit different from the roll-on. More spicy, whereas the roll-on had a more leathery touch to it. It don’t matter though, it’s a lovely fragrance anyway and would wear it anytime, allthough I might prefer the roll-on 😉

Uniting the musical universe with the audience; the Rock with the rebellion, was released in 2011, one of the most exotics (not to say weird) scents from the Azzaro house: Decibel.
What a few people know is that the concept behind the fragrance was translate the smell of nightclubs, of the smoke from the dry ice and of the sweaty bodies on the dance floor. For the rockers, other subliminal messages have been incorporated: the smell of a new microphone and of the warm amplifier box.
And, once again, I must congratulate the creation, taking into account the concept. Normally, people buy colognes, purely and simply, by the aroma. But who creates, always tries to achieve a specific concept or idea.
Based on that, the experience of wearing this fragrance on my skin won a fully differentiated approach to my nose. If I didn’t know the concept, would probably say: “synthetic scent, with sweet and plastic smell”. Knowing the concept, I let myself go a little further in the analysis.
In the official composition, a high amount of aldehydes and Italian Green tangerine, in the output. Attention! Most shops and websites indicate Sicilian lemon, but that’s not what says the manufacturer. The green tangerine tends more to the bergamot than to the lemon, in terms of aroma. In the heart, notes of licorice, violets and incense. Finally, at the base, notes of tonka bean, vanilla and vetiver from Haiti.
The output is sweet and synthetic, as expected. Actually, the bitter of the green tangerine together with the aldehydes – that function as steroids – conveys the idea of smoke from dry ice and heated plastic. This initial phase is very similar to that of many other fragrances from Jacques Bogart House. But those who know the world of perfumery, also know that it is important to give time for the magic to happen. Many delicious fragrances have dreadful output and vice versa.
About 40 minutes later, the fragrance becomes more balanced and warm. The licorice and the violets find a delicious, smoky and exotic incense. At this point, some say its smell resembles cinnamon. Finally, the vanilla (which is not natural) and the tonka bean give a bit more of sensuality and nocturnal aspect to the creation.
In short, Decibel is a scent for the late nights, for those who live in search of the perfect “ballad scent”. Obviously, with so much synthetic content, it exudes and lasts very well.
The bottle is very interesting, because it escapes from the classic pattern of the House, bringing a dark microphone with a silver and realistic head. Without doubt, the target for this fragrance is not the same of the Azzaro Pour Homme line.

Great opening, first 3-4 seconds are really sweet, then the incense kicks in and transforms into quite a nice scent. The longevity seems to be decent, at the first wear, 2 sprays on the neck and two on the shirt and i can still smell it after about 6 hours. Also, it projects quite decent the first hour or two, then becomes more of a close to skin scent.
It is kind of linear after those first couple of seconds, but I like the scent that remains, so no complaint here.
Let’s not forget this is a very cheap fragnance, and for 8 dollars i payed for the 25ml bottle, couldn’t be more happy.

Licorice-lemon, seems a lot of folks don’t like it, but I do. Smells nice and projects a lot at first; dry-down is also good and totally non-offensive. Decent staying power but faint projection after a while.
I wouldn’t overspray it if you’re not into drawing attention the first few moments. Cheapy, and when used sparcely, definitely not a bad scent. No masterpiece but I repeat; not bad either. Bottle design could have been better imho.

Bought a 25ml size at a bargain yesterday out of curiosity.
I too have nothing to compare to this in my vast collection .
It is a cool summer day here and I have applied about 6 sprays.
Has lasted at least 4 hrs and started off quite soapy and citrus .
morphs into incense and a touch of liquorice but I can’t locate the vanilla or sweetness as yet.I find it strong and defined maybe a touch of ginger . Suitable for over 30,s and not a teenage nightclubby sort of scent .
Could imagine wearing this at work but only lightly but good for an informal night out.
I own a couple of Azzaro scents and find them all completely different which is good.
I will wait for the reactions from others but personally I like it .
My rating 8 out of 10.Projection good and lasting power good for price.

I get why people aren’t loving this, because it does vary a lot on people’s chemistry quite a lot. On me the opening is like sweet plastic gasoline, love or hate I guess, but the drydown is very smooth, almost creamy, aldehydes and burnt sugar. I don’t see this as woody or spicy at all, gourmand, Nice, I like it.

The fragrance when starts is very strong, resembles smell of dry ice smoke in the night clubs, what may scare who smells.
Drydown very interesting, resembles a smell of guitar amp when connected to long (I don’t know if is any connection with a The Strokes haha). Also have a vibe of cold incense and citric notes in the entrance.
Very exotic perfume, breaking the linearity of the Azzaro House, with one perfume exotic, young, smoky, for the parties and ballad.
Very nice projection and longevity, but isn’t a versatile scent. I think that the night is a great opportunity to use Decibel.
The commercial is very cool, mainly for who like The Strokes haha.

A scent is like music, like a drink, like a color, it could suit you and ti could just irritate you… A perfume could be evaluated/assessed based on higher criteria: such as how do we understand it; what for do we search in the perfume; do we search for mood or presenting an image to the others; etc. Also, I think that every one who writes a review should say something about her/his age to know who is talking…

I don’t know what to think about this one. It is a lot less terrible and vulgarious than I initially thought and actually, I’ve noticed that I can also quite like it on a very cold day. I tried a sample this morning and the smell was turning on me quite like Fahrenheit 32 by DIOR (the white bottle). It is the vanilla that gives this impression, it is a really similar vanilla in both colognes. Not bad actually, not very elegant but more casual. I might try a bottle some day, for winter exclusively.

Sweet and refreshing scent. Manly and outspoken. Earlier, three years ago, I disliked it but now I want to keep it as one of my favorite scent.

I don’t know why it has so many negatives votes. For me it’s a very nice scent, sweet but masculine at the same time, very addictive. Isn’t the best fragrance I have smelled but it’s very good. Perfect for a winter night. 8/10

Dear oh dear this has an immediately repellant note to it that I’ve smelled before and I can’t say what it is but it’s kinda musty and über earthy to the point of unpleasantness.
It’s exactly what I get from Dsquared He Wood, not that they are alike throughout but it’s a kind of horrible smell not similar to but as bad as ammonia…if you get what I mean?
If you can tell I seriously don’t like this smell but the rest of the fragrance is alright if I could get past it, maybe it mellows in the dry down I don’t know?
The bottle is cool though…a bit ridiculous but I think there’s room for that in the fragrance market.

A very different frag, which is basic, linear and affordable…
    I applied 6 heavy sprays
0 – 1.25 hours – 1.25 foot projection. Okay this is different, this smells like a pale-orange (not listed). I have to be honest and say for me, that this is not very good – it is so like children’s low sugar cheap orange cordial. I am looking at the scent pyramid and cannot fathom how you get incence, vanilla etc out of this. The name decibel could not be further from the truth; there is nothing loud about this fragrance- it is dull, bland and uninspiring. I was expecting a smoking, balmy heavy fragrance and instead I get a low calorie Calypso..ages 12 – 16
    1.25 hours – 3 hours – 4 inch projection. Linear frag
    3 hours – 4.25 hours – 2 inch projection
4.25 hours – 9 hours. Close to skin but lasts quite long. At last clear notes come out with a dated tonka bean drydown appearing from nowhere ages 42 – 48
I blind bought a 25ml bottle from my usual shop, and the spritzer lid is faulty. It just gets worse and worse…lol. you win some and you loose some
The positive side of me tried to use this fragrance in a situation which would suit – I got that desperate to like it that I took it to the pool on holiday…. and I use it very rarely to provide some light feel/touch when stressed
I am lover of many Azzaro frag’s, but not this one
    Not for me

I got this for my birthday. It is an unusual mix of anise, smoke and incense with citrus thrown in for good measure. It almost has a burnt caramel-like aspect to it as well, which is probably the combination of vanilla and the smoky note. It is quite hard to compare this to anything else I own as it is very different. It is kind of an aldehydish gourmand.

I’m in LOVE with decibel. Love to wear it and sniff to my Bf when he wears it. Smells so different – on him Yummy in a very masculine way, sweeter and softer on me. So sexy and addictive.. Always catch attention

Despite being tagged as “for men”, I definitely think this one could be used by a woman. It is at the same time sweet and bitter, with a strong note of lemon peel that appears on the top and on the heart of the perfume, along with a note of incense which is also very long lasting. The incense note, very strong, reminds me a little of the scent of burnt coffee, which I think makes this scent a little bit tiring. It has a good projection (quite strong, actually!) and medium longevity.

For me it seems that Azzaro tried something different with this one!It is appreciable but looks like they tried to much!It is the overpowering smoky feeling that i find it so annoying! It is to in your face,i don’t know why did they put so much quantity of this in the formula because doesn’t seems to fit. After the top notes,a little bit of lemon and liquorice and of course incense,
