To my nose, it’s a fresh, herbal sour fragrance that is almost unisex. The ozone, suede and amber are there for sure in the middle and base. I can’t smell any fruitiness. I don’t smell any sweetness, neither. I don’t find it generic, but it doesn’t stand out IMHO. I don’t know what it tries to do or where it wants to go.
I wish it had balancing notes to counteract the sourness and give weight to the composition. It’s pretty linear and uninteresting to my nose. It stays close to the body. When sprayed, it leaves a lot of oil on the skin. I’ve never had a fragrance do that before.
Good thing is that I don’t smell anything chemical or bothersome in the synthetic note kind of way, nor does it smell cheap. That is surprising, and the best quality of this fragrance. Nothing about is offends my nose chemically-speaking.
Other than the unbalanced sourness and lack of obvious personality, I don’t have anything against this fragrance. After 30-40 minutes, it gets a stronger scent that reminds me of Drakkar Noir. But it’s really subtle and close to the skin. For less than $20, the quality of the ingredients is admirable in my experience. I don’t get nauseated. I don’t get grossed-out. I don’t get any red flags from my brain that it’s made with cheap ingredients. This is not a dollar store fragrance, nor an interpretation fragrance in terms of quality. I’m actually surprised by it ingredients-wise.
I think it’s a gentle, safe fragrance for chilling out with loved ones or going to the gym. It has a soapy/showery kind of vibe to it without actually smelling soapy. I find it unique in its overall fragrance and characteristics. It smells nothing like it, but DY reminds me of Alfred Sung Paradise’s vibe, which is also a sour fragrance that people that smell it love but I dislike because it lacks some needed balancing sweetness.
I’m not blown away by DY by Daddy Yankee, but it’s because of my personal preferences and not because of the fragrance per se. Honestly, I give it 4 out of 5 flaws and all even if I don’t like it, because while not strong, it takes a while before becoming a skin scent, and the quality is really good. I don’t dislike it neither. It’s just not my cup of tea. God bless you and thanks for reading!

Daddy Yankee’s first offering seemed to have a relatively warm reception, despite general cynicism toward celebrity fragrances, so I was eager to try it. However, it falls into the apple/melon vibe of fruit that doesn’t sit well with me. It’s a uncanny combination, which is perhaps why it rings popular and different from many other options, but following the burst of alcohol at the opening, I get more of a mix of rotting fruit than freshness. I can see why some would like it, though, if it’s in their wheelhouse, note-wise. It’s just not in mine. A cheap try or buy ($15 for 100ml on FN), if nothing else.

It’s a bit too fruity for my tastes, and there isn’t enough to contrast against it either. It’s a touch musky but not too sweet. There is a little dynamism but not much, as it’s rather simple, though it’s reasonably natural smelling (at the current $10 per 100 ml price point). I’d rather wear The Secret if I’m going to buy a bottle of a recent, low-priced celebuscent, but I can see the appeal of this one. You won’t get much depth in any of these kinds of scents but sometimes there’s a good composition, though this is not one that I need in my rotation.
UPDATE: I tried it again because I saw a really low price but the marine note seemed too strong, and not pleasant, in the drydown.

Couldn’t care less about who’s name is attached to a fragrance so long as it smells good and lasts a decent amount of time. And this my friends, does both…very well I might add! Picked up a tester of this online for around $13, honestly not expecting a whole lot.
But what I got, was pleasantly surprising…a very unique smell that is a little hard for me to describe. I get a slightly sweet/darkish fruity vibe with a little spice and a well done suede/woody base. Plus, I would swear there is a barely detectable coniferous note in the dry-down?(maybe the ginger and wood combo is doing this?) Longevity is impressive on my dry skin.
Truly a rare treat, and one I would rank right up there with another celeb scent that was shockingly good and unique for me as well…A.B.’s Seduction In Black. Not the same type of scent mind you, but overall quality and something different than your “run of the mill” junk that is so often times pumped out with a stars name attached to it.

For a cheaper cologne it is pretty potent. It is one of my favs. My wife loves it on me. It keeps a clean scent going throughout the day. It is a great versatile fragrance but I don’t wear it to work because of the female attraction to it. Overall pretty good fragrance.

Yes, I bought this one. It’s amongst my most regrettable moments since I began really getting into fragrances.
I bought this for it’s name, alone, and, okay…because someone said it smelled similar to Curve.
Now, had I been living up North, I’d never have purchased this one or even thought to look for it. When you’re a displaced “Yankee” living in Texas you need something anything to be able to relate to you. I get called a “Yankee” almost daily. Sadly, this one did nothing for me.
Couldn’t help but visualize an ethnic young man with one of those crazy white belts with bling bling to the max wearing this one to a night club thinking he smelled hot to the ladies.
It doesn’t smell terrible, but it does smell cheap to me, and I would never, ever wear it unless I could get my hands on one of those elusive white belts. 🙂

I agree with Gypsy this was definitely the sleeper of the year. When I first saw this at Marshalls I didn’t even give this a thought. I said why the hell would I buy some Daddy Yankee? Then I saw open one and smelled it and I was really impressed. I end up buying this for $10 at TJ Max. What a deal.
This opens up very fruity and then morphs into a nice woody fragrance. To fragrance is very versatile, you can wear it for almost any occasion. By the way I don’t listen to Daddy Yankee but this is a very nice fragrance. I will draw the line at celebrity fragrances when they come out with a Flavor Flav cologne.

It reminds me of Curve, in fact, it is as Curve and Kenneth Cole Reaction having a child. Fruity and abit dark. Sillage and Projection are moderate, scent quality and development is surprisingly good for such a cheap presentation.
Alternative to Curve. (original curve yellow bottle)
Could be a young woman magnet

Preach on Arkangel. Gave a set to husband as a gift, bought from Marshalls. It smelled just fine, and it got used up. Btw on unrelated note, DY songs in my ipod for zumba not bad.

I adore this scent, It’s deep woody & masculine. I wear this to the club & by morning I can still smell it. You get a bite of apple and suede wich surprisingly is a great combination, It has a sweet essence & intrigues the one who passes you by.

An elegant masculine creation from an entertainer whom I’d never even heard of before this came out. If his music is like his signature scent, I just might have to give it a listen…
This opens with a simply beautiful apple-ginger accord that instead of being spicy/fruity is airy, sweet and smooth. Due in no small part, I am sure to the addition of ‘ozone’. The heart is a blend of sage’s dryness and basil’s sharp greeness tempered by the suede, soft yet slightly pungent. The drydown is very elegant with cedar, red wood and amber, aromatic but gentle. A very refined, gentlemanly smelling scent that is cleanly done with a very sexy, slightly mysterious undercurrent. This is something you could wear anytime for any occasion and still come off with a rich, dignified air. This was the sleeper scent of the year for me, and I must say his first offering has impressed me a great deal…
    Sillage: very good
    Longevity: above average
    Overall: 4/5
You do not have to like a celebrity and you can still like their perfumes,Paris Hilton-case in point. I have no idea who this guy is and his scent is wonderful…I’m not into 50 Cent or Puffy either, but I like some of their fragrances. Let’s remember one thing, people-it’s not like they squeezed the essence out of the preformer and bottled it. Some perfumer somewhere combined some notes the performer likes and tweaked it slightly to create a scent they would not mind endorsing. I’m not ashamed in the least to say I really enjoy DY and the women just LOVE it!!

I got this cologne in a drug store down in New York City and they had a sale for perfumes and colognes. I remember trying It on my wrist and it just smelled phenomenal, it’s really not about the artist, I mean, I’m not a fan of Daddy Yankee nor do I really listen to his music, but the smell really caught my attention. It also comes with a chain but I never actually wore it, it looks slightly cheap. The scent really suits seasons such as Fall and Summer, however, I feel like it is a little bit too provocative for school or work and I would recommend wearing this fragrance in parties or special occasions, to be honest. I received many compliments from friends and family and this particular fragrance would last about 7-9 hours on my skin, so that’s great. When I smell this cologne, I imagine and visualize the paparazzi, the celebrity lifestyle, you know… walking down the red carpet and signing autographs. 4/5

It’s not about the entertainer, it’s all about the perfumer, and whoever did this did something different. If this were George Clooney’s bottle, the comments would be drastically dissimilar. I don’t care for Daddy Yankee or the dog tag you receive with the bottle, but it’s a very nice fragrance.
    It’s provocative… dark, yet inviting.

I still don’t understand why this fool has his own cologne?
I first experienced this scent from a magazine… Although I’m not a big Daddy Yankee fan, it wasn’t TOO bad… Just not my style. No thanks.
