Description

Costume National Homme is an original and captivating fragrance for an essential and timeless man with a metropolitan spirit and energetic personality. Created by Master Dominique Ropion, it is a perfect balance of sparkling citrus, spices and sensual and mysterious woods.

The fresh top notes of sparkling grapefruit, cardamom and bergamot blend with an unexpected heart of cinnamon, thyme and cloves. The base notes of patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum turn the composition into a scented enigma.

The transparent glass is enriched by the silver logo and treasured in a silver and grey box. Available as a 50 and 100 ml Eau de parfum.

Costume National Homme was launched in 2009.

A very pleasant woody spicy perfume that is perfect for autumn and winter. A little fresh at first, but then it’s very spicy, with the most prominent being the cinnamon, cloves, pepper and cardamom. It has a little of Egoiste in it in the form of cinnamon and sandalwood, but it’s much simpler.

    One word – “beautiful”.
Cinnamon, Cloves, Sandalwood and Thyme is the cocktail I get from this. Just a lovely, masculine, charismatic, sweet-spicey-aromatic Autumn/Winter gem. I just love this. Love, love, love it. This is unlike any other Clove heavy scent I have had before (e.g. Cacharel pour homme). This is just a delight to wear and I cannot stop smelling my wrist. :o)
    Wow!
It might not last as long as most high quality EDPs do but still long enough (approx 6-8 hrs on me) but based on the calibre of quality in this I’m REALLY tempted to try and track down a bottle of Costume National Soul…..

Masculine aromatic that reminds me of pound cake, lemon, and violet
Perhaps one of the best aromatics I have smelled
Understated, but confident with 6 hours longevity and fair projection
In a weird way it faintly reminds me of jubilation 25, but I find this fragrance more casual instead of classy or regal

Very manly in a dressed-up way. I smell like a top executive wearing this, and it projects self-confidence. Be very careful with the application, don’t go beyond 2 sprays. Projection and sillage are “Beast mode”, so it’s very easy to overspray.
It’s also a very mature fragance – so if you are in a work situation, play it safe, one spray on the back of your neck and you’re fine to go. For the day.
I really want to buy this one, and I will.
    Just my .02

Great for winter. Great for sleeping. I need to do a side-by-side comparison of this with Spicebomb and with Bvlgari Man in Black. I’m not sure it’s worth the price, but I will do further testing.

It’s not just about the exodus that is exorbitant or the longevity that is no longer part of you, it’s just a pleasure to join you.
It sings you on a holiday day, even if it is not, whether it snow and it’s blizzard or even a sunny day, definitely a friend of hope you want to keep forever.
It’s a delicious breakfast that you do not have any more, and every time there’s so many new things to discover and so much to tell.
Fresh citrus notes from the opening where fresh and resistant grapefruit welcomes you, combines ingeniously with spices, where cinnamon and cardamom are the main actors, and the end is genius by adding sandalwood and especially due to labdanum that adds a gourmet note traces of plums, amber muscles and skin, pushing it towards a mysterious, luxuriant, elegance with a happy and tasty finish.
Although it is similar to Amouage Man, Chanel Egoiste, I feel closer to Spice Bomb, but with different evolutions.
I do not know how long it takes to discover it completely, but one thing is certain: again and again!
Thanks Dominique Ropion for your Homme Homem Costumes Reliable Perfume and Friend!

This reminds me ever so slightly of the original Chanel Egoiste and also of the new Cardamom Coffee from Lush.
The cardamom note is the strongest for me, this has the beautiful fragrance of an old coffeehouse, the wooden floors and furniture having soaked in years and years of coffee scented air. The smell of hot chai lattes being served up in that atmosphere. If I smelled this on a man it would make me want to snuggle in closer to him.

Wow …I have OG batch I bought a bottle in 2010 been in my cold cellar for almost a decade ,recently received a fresh carded sample to try was looking to buy another bottle to save my vintage juice. But once tried I was disappointed, this fragrance is now a watered down shell of itself I sadly say, also projection and especially longevity are incredibly weak I have EDC’S that perform better.Shame… this was a fairly nice fragrance I will nurse my vintage bottle .

The cloves, cinnamon & sandalwood is so strong in this one.
Like really strong, my female co-workers liked it. But the guys, not so much.
Can’t win them all I guess.
Anyway, it’s a very manly fragrance, that you can wear this anywhere…But be careful when you wear this.
This IMHO is a fragrance you should wear during the fall, winter & early and I mean early days of spring.
This is not the fragrance you should be wearing during hot times.
I used four sprays…both wrist, front of my neck and front of my shirt.
    Will I buy this again?…No?
What’s the strength of this? EDP.
Can you use it as a unisex scent? NO!
Am I willing to trade this fragrance? Yes.
Should You Skip It, Sample It First or Blind Buy It? I say Sample it first.
Is it the old, new formulation? New.
What’s its availability; in production, limited edition or discontinued? In production.

Projection: 5/5 (Two hours plus, but longer during warmer temps).

A very fine, very wearable oriental. A softer, slightly less sharp version of Egoiste. Perfect as a spicy winter scent, but with the tropical, balmy breeziness for a summer scent as well; the creamy sandalwood note makes this a year-round winner. Lasts all day, and projection is perfectly gauged for the right kind of attention. (Getting harder to find, though, so stock up as I’ve just done.)
    A clear 9/10.

in the 90’s Egoiste – Chanel was a beauty for people who could detect the truth of it. I believe that it was reformulated later on and the beauty was gone. Costume National Homme is just similar to that old beauty.I love cinnamon in winter perfumes. Mr. Ropion isa highly respected nose and he created another masterpiece in this one.
About the similarity with Dolce di Giorno : Costume National homme leaves a better attractie trace when compared to heavy and not attractive smell of DG

Masterpiece, i wear this since 10 years. The performance are not as good as it were before, sad but true.
    ladies love it

  13. :

    4 out of 5

Another watered down fragrance (thanks IFRA). Do not be fooled into buying this based on previous reviews with claims of nuclear performance. The performance of this fragrance is truly laughable at best under the current reformulated batches.
I bought this for £66 and gave it away after using 70mls of it. Extremely poor performance. So much that I had to spray three spritz on my neck, three spritz on my chest and up to ten spritz on my clothes daily when going out in autumn. Even at that much usage, it fades away after one hour at best.
Smells lovely though, it’s very fruity with soft notes of spices but remains very linear throughout it’s life (short anyway).
    Fragrance: 8/10
    Longetivity: 3/10
    Sillage: 2/10
Projection: 1/10 (nobody will smell this on you unless they hug you)
Verdict: Not worth the money if performance is what you’re after. It does smell lovely though, but would require reappliation every two hours and is simply not worth the hassle or investment. Avoid.

I am not one who chooses fragrances based on the reactions it gets from others. For me, the sign of a great scent is when I put it on the very first time and quickly say to myself, “wow.” This has held true even if my girlfriend is unimpressed.
So, I finally got a sample of Costume National Homme after reading so many positive reviews here.
    “Wow.”
Love at first sniff. This is a near-perfect cold weather scent.
As I went about my morning, I walked past my girlfriend who immediately said, “OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?!?!” She absolutely loved it. So a full bottle is now on the way—I guess I do care about the reactions I get, at least the reaction from her!

    Farkedilirlik: 10
    Koku güzelliği: 7
    Fiyat/Performans: 10
    Puan: 9,25 (Kesinlikle koleksiyona eklenmeli)

    To the person below me…
This is not really like anything I have smelled before, especially in the designer arena. I’d say there’s a slight resemblance to Clive Christian X, but X is definitely next level. It’s more of a mature scent, and some women I have spoken to don’t really like it. I really enjoy it, but it’s not what I’d call a “safe” scent. Not at all. This is the right time to buy this if you live in the northern hemisphere. Great cold weather scent. Risky blind buy, but you can find this pretty cheap.

  20. :

I’m about to blind buy this scent due to the positives comments on internet…. but what would be the closest designer fragrance to this??? Some people say Clive Christian but I don’t know that either. I’d really appreciate your advice.

This is a very smooth and warm spiced gourmand scent. It has solid projection and longevity. Tested my bottle today, can’t check the batch code for some reason (6042A) but the scent is spot on from the sample service I use. It is a manly and uplifting scent. 5/5

  23. :

    3 out of 5

Perhaps I have a bad batch but I detect no cinnamon, very little sandalwood…and cloves, cloves and more cloves followed by clumps of cloves in this fragrance; it’s a clove bomb and, sadly, a scrubber. Sad for me since this was blind buy.
Since I work in The District, I picked-up the phone and dialed my local EFD (Explosive Fragrance Disposal) Unit. Unfortunately, they were not properly equipped to deal with this level of toxic spillage. CNH is a must buy for anyone wanting to exfoliate and looking for a baseline stench product in which to measure success.
Seriously, the sprayer is horrible…the damn thing lets out this vile fluid. But on a positive note, I did receive some encouraging words about this fragrance. I was told that I wouldn’t be escorted out-of-the-building should I shower with lye soap. Now that’s encouraging!
Scrub-a-dub-dub Costume National Homme down the tub. (Lol) Thank goodness I keep decants of Aventus, Green Irish Tweed, Fahrenheit and others at the office…and have a great sense of humor. 🙂 Still, Costume National Homme is a clove bomb; cloves outnumber all other ingredients combined, 10-1. El Stinko, El Scrubbo, El Pour Down the Tubbo.

Get past the clove blast and you’re left with a seductive, soft cinnamon and wood scent. Let it settle down before casting aspersions.
Great night scent for the fall/winter. Resembles Clive Christian X quite a bit in the dry down. Not as smooth, but still niche quality, and gets compliments.
An 8.0/10 for me. A solid scent worth seeking out to test.

This is an awesome scent. I am not surprised it gets no attention. Jeremy Fragrance has not been paid to review it yet. I own over 300 scents, both niche/designer. This scent is niche quality, period. I’ve received several compliments on this fragrance. I am active duty military (for the past 28 years now) and throughout my travels, women love this scent. My wife really loves this scent. This may not be a blind buy for most; however, if you love to smell unique, classy, sexy, and exude manhood…this is your fragrance. Newsflash my friends, stop waiting for reviewers like Jeremy Fragrance (who is paid by sellers to review/promote their fragrances) to buy different scents. If it smells good to you, buy it! So many YouTube reviewers are paid to promote fragrances…please, test these fragrances first. I’ve been collecting fragrances for the past 28 years…from France, Qatar, Africa, Italy, India..and other well known parts of the world. Remember, you make the fragrance…it doesn’t make you! In other words, your body chemistry, attitude, sex appeal, etc, determines how the fragrance repels off your skin. Sorry to digress…at any rate, this is an awesome scent, get a sample…I am sure you will love this fragrance. For me, its best in the fall or winter. I bought this fragrance in Qatar…and I will have to get another bottle soon. Ladies love it, men respect it! Two sprays MAX! This stuff is beast mode on my skin!

I am surprised no one mentioned the Kenzo Homme Night resemblance but only after the CNH settles down like 2 hours after the initial spray. At first 2 hours you can feel the cloves heavily but in an elegant way, somehow after it settles down it has an obvious creamy coconut vibe like the kenzo homme night has (i know neither have coconut ingredient) and this is the part i loved on CNH.

I do agree that it smells like DDG from 1920, but I think the DDG is better balanced. This one punches you in the face with cloves and cinnamon, everything else takes a very distant back seat. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but you better like cinnamon and cloves.

  28. :

    4 out of 5

This smells absolutely nothing like dolce di giorno, DDG is heavy on the incense, this ones much softer with a spicy cinnamon and clove opening which settles down to a calm sandalwood lemon drydown. I would say this ones much closer to Sandalo e The than DDG.

What i can say about this fragrance ….. first of all its really really different from all what i’ve smelled, its true im not into fragrances a lot, but when i read the reviews and the comments about it, i thought its my good to go perfume that make me stand out and be different from the others, and YES it make me feel like that, its different very nice, warm and uniq!
It’s strong, so make sure you don’t over spray this beast, lol otherwise you may kill yourself, 2 sprays or 3 at max, it lasts on my skin for 20h+ and i had it on a pillow and man, its there for like 3 days.
If you want to stand out and be different, that’s your good to go fragrance.
I did blind buy it, and i’m not regretting it, its something i’ll keep using it whenever i want to prove my presence.

Someone mentioned “nuclear performance” I agree.
    This stuff has immense sillage.

    Marvelous!

Spectacular performance (nuclear) and a great smelling spicy fragrance; cinnamon, cloves, creamy sandalwood with a peach-pie opening are what I get out of this fragrances…for a solid 16-20 hours, so be careful when applying this one. The price/quality per dollar ration is also insanely good. One of the best scents on the market IMO.

A very well blended scent. Starts very fresh citrussy/herbal, almost smells like the sweets skittles. there is alot of cinnamon but at this stage it’s not the main note but supporting the top notes. once this dries down all of the top notes fade away far into the background and what you get is mainly spicy notes with alot and i mean alot of cinnamon.
There is also alot of sandlewood in this scent think Diptyque Tam Dao. the sandlewood makes this scent very interesting with the cinnamon. Personally it is not my cup of tea but i have to respect the scent based on how well this is blended and also lasts an east 10-12 hours. I you are not into cinnamon stay clear. The sprayer is to notch on this bottle.
seasons i would say cooler months. i cannot see anyone wearing this late spring or summer.
Do not go more than 2 sprays to the neck it projects alot in the early stages.

I wasn’t really sure how to take this fragrance when I first applied it to my hand. At first I’d say that it comes off really milky or creamy which I wasn’t to impressed by but as time went on it started to denvelop onto this spicy, woody and vanillic thing that had me really liking this. This is one I’m not in a hurry to buy but I’d love to have it in the collection.

Gorgeous Smell, Nuclear Performance, Great Projection!
Costume National Homme is my all time favourite fragrance for winter time, which presents niche quality with an affordable price.
CN Homme includes lots of cinnamon and cloves. I think it also has a tiny vanilla notes, which appears at the end. The notes are amazingly blended and you cant stop smelling yourself.
BE CAREFUL! This thing has insane projection and longevity. So, do not over use it. Otherwise, you will offend people easily. I apply 2 sprays on my sweaters the night before i wore them. Than, i apply just 2 sprays of my neck next morning. BOOM! I smell amazing and gets lots of complements without being offensive for the next +10 hours.
I couldnt imagine someone, who use this gem in warmer seasons. NO GUYS! This thing is for winter. Topic is not debatable. Closed!
One and only issue with this juice is, it does not change entirely. You smell nearly same during its lifetime. However, this is not a problem for a fragrance which can only be used just 2-3 months.
Buy a 3.4 Oz bottle and i’ll guarantee, you are gonna use this +5 years. Blind buy is safe for +25.
    Overall:9/10

    UPDATE:
When I first tested this, it was almost all cloves. For some reason, the more I wore it, the less the cloves dominated. Now I would say it is about 60% cinnamon and 40% cloves. I still don’t get anything else out of this — it is literally a 2-note fragrance to my nose. It is very simple and linear, but I do like it for wearing in late fall and winter. As noted, performance is impressive, especially longevity.
    ORIGINAL REVIEW:
A clove BOMB on my skin. On my first test, it was too much, and I just couldn’t take it. Now it sort of reminds me of mulled wine, or perhaps a kind of manly potpourri. Still, to me, clove dominates, joined later by a more subtle cinnamon. I keep wearing it, and it is growing on me.
Sillage cuts through the frigid air of winter. Remains pretty linear for the full 24+ hours. I mean, INSANE longevity.

  41. :

The opening is intense. Cloves bro, cloves. Musc ravageur looks like a baby bunny compared to this. But – 10 minutes in, cinnamon. The cloves begin to take the backseat – and thank god – because it’d be a scrubber for me if that kept up! It’s easy to see similarities between this and Soul (which I think is just as masculine) – but soul takes a turn with a honey-ish/oud-ish note(s), and seems to get stronger, while this calms down and becomes manageable. At any rate – this is niche quality. There is nothing designer about this (including the price)! I’m really surprised to see how many people like this, considering clove seems to be quite the polarizing note. This is a great smell – will be a frequent addition to my winter rotation. Can’t wait to see what else this house has in store.

extraordinary scent, I confirm its nuclear power, only tom ford and a few others make them so powerful, it’s not a perfume for timid, this fragrance is the brother of black Orkid tom ford, the cousin of therre hemes edp and spicebomb extreme, stock up because if you stop the price will rise to 300 eu.

Absolutely great, I’m really impressed by its quality and uniqueness. This is a great seductive warm spicy, woody scent for perfume connoisseurs, you can easily compare this to the other niche exclusive perfumes. Both the Cinnamon and clove including the sandalwood are very pleasant on the skin. Chapeau to Monsieur Dominique Ropion!

Man I love this stuff, I’m definitely getting a full bottle soon. The weirdest thing about this fragrance is that it reminds me a bit of the vintage YSL M7. Sure people will call me crazy and even when I compare notes I don’t see any resemblance either but hey .. it’s my nose so suck it up.
On my skin this is beautiful love child between M7 and figs. These two went on a date, had steaming erotic adventures and bottled up whatever sweat was still drying up on their bodies.
Scent wise the combination of notes to me really provide a fig experience that is very similar to the Rituals brand fig home fragrance and body wash line but there is much more depth and raw power available. There is also plenty of warm sweetness thanks to the cinnamon but it’s not sickeningly sweet, rather just the right amount to make the entire composition warm and inviting instead of harsh.
Personally I assume I pick up the M7 vibe as my mind connects the sweet/medicinal aura due to the combination of cloves and labdanum blended in the entire composition.
This shit is strong though and lasts forever, showering is sometimes not even good enough to remove it. 4 sprays and you’re truly set for the day. In fact, your entire office will be set for the day. People around you will be even set for the entire day.
Some of these people might say it’s overpowering.
Whatever, bask in it’s glory or put vaporub under your nose

Homme is the first and only fragrance by Costume National that I’ve tried, and it seems to be the house’s most popular men’s fragrance, celebrated as an agreeable spicy/sweet mix, and that it certainly is. It’s unoffensive, neither overwhelmingly sweet nor spicy, though certainly sweeter than spicier overall.
The clove/cinnamon mix somehow gives this a fig-like sweetness to me. I’m amazed that fig is not in the note breakdown since that’s the main experience I’m having with this, the main element that’s making it sweeter than spicier.
Performance is moderate at best, and even the retail price ($80 for 50ml on Luckyscent) is manageable if you like the stuff enough, though it certainly seems to be floating around the secondary market as well.
I’m certainly pleased by it but not blown away. Nonetheless I could see how it could be a cold weather mainstay of many men’s fragrance rotations.

Very well done. The two reviews below mine did a great/better job at explaining this one. It’s not a young scent, it could be worn by anyone 30+. That being said, it’s also not so mature that those of us in our 30’s will feel like a grandpa. I do find this to be a modern fragrance, so don’t be scared away by thinking it is too mature or dated by the note breakdown. I love the addition of cloves which can be too much for me sometimes, however, they did a great job here. It is not the same as Spicebomb, so don’t get me wrong, but for those who may need a reference (as it is hard to find a store that carries it to sample for some of us): Spicebomb without the sweetness, more wood, and a bit more classed-up. Wood and Spices with a splash of grapefruit. Performance does very well. As far as seasons: Winter, Fall and early Spring. An awesome under the radar scent!

  49. :

I had ordered a sample of Costume National’s “21” but received this as a sample in stead. When I looked for the notes I shied away from trying it, because I avoid cinnamon in food and this fragrance is all about cinnamon. Yet, the way this is blended in with the sandalwood and grapefruit… wow… it makes the cinnamon just stand out in such a glorious and yet soft manner! I agree that it is a very manly scent, but I don’t think it’s macho or aggressive. It is very confident man in his 30s. This has actually become my signature scent. Just gives to show how disliking a scent based on its notes is not always a good thing.

This is an intense scent, do not wear it if u want to just blend in, this scent is for a man who wants to be known, this scent exudes confidence, is mysterious and intriguing. This isn’t a scent a teenager would wear, or someone under 25… This is a manly scent, and boy this juice is potent… I smelled it from the box I got it from in the mail I thought it broke or was leaking, no it’s just that strong… You get a cinnamon clove bomb on first spray, then on the dry down it really shines and shows its stuff, you get that sandalwood and on the dry down has a frankensence woody smoky smell reminded me of when I went to this church in Quito Ecuador, buikt during the Spanish colonization, the scent of hand carved wood, and incense, and hints of tobacco, This is what the most interesting man in the world from those commercials would wear. Buy if u wanna smell like a manly man, a dark mysterious conqueror of what lies before you

I first became aware of this fragrance’s existence while researching designer colognes that had legendary projection. Out of obscurity came Costume National, a cologne that is rather difficult to test in person. Trusting the massive “love” bar on this site, I decided to lend some credence to my fellow noses and obtain a bottle. I had a very unique experience with it, and I think it’s worth mentioning.
When opening the box and just barely smelling it, I already knew I was going to like it. It was unique, herbal, and STRONG. It took me a bit to realize the cap was designed to look exactly like the spray head, and when I took it off, I was welcomed with the punch of cloves. On my neck, I sprayed three good sprays only to find them extremely oily…I’m not complaining! This is some VERY concentrated stuff! Although it was a firm departure from my aquatics-love, CN smelt pioneering but also very familiar (excuse my doublethink, I sound like a Neo-Progressive). To my dismay, however, no one else seemed to like it. My usual band of compliment givers at work completely ignored it, despite it being clearly domineering. Frustrated, I asked one of my younger female coworkers to smell it, to which she gave me an unpleasant look. The final nail in the coffin was when my sister rather explicitly stated, “GROSS! You smell like an old man!”
So what do I make of this- a fragrance that is undeniably detectable, but not characteristically delectable? Being one to use cologne as a social enhancer, I ended up selling the bottle. When women don’t like it- as shallow as I am for saying this- I guess I don’t, either. I don’t know how I’ll dissociate myself from this in their minds!
    Projection: 9/10
    Scent: 7/10
    Scent to Women: 0/10
    Longevity: 8/10
    Try, buy, or pass? TRY

Well where do I start I think I will go with what a complete bottle of niche quality juice for me this fragrance is perfect for the man who wants to say yes I smell good and I’m doing it without TV or magazine adverts telling me I should smell of 1 million or aqua di gio,he’s saying I choose my fragrance’s without media pushing me into smelling like the latest designer concoction (nothing wrong with designer scents I have plenty myself). I freely admit it takes balls to wear this scent but it should be celebrated not berated so if its not your cup of tea say so nicely and leave it at that as those of us who love it don’t wish to see it dragged through the mud so play nice guys we are all fragrance lovers so let’s stay that way and not become haters. Peace and love guys X oh and merry Christmas to all you guys xxx

So damn good! I love it!
Okay, so it’s not often that I encounter a fragrance and love INSTANTLY… Cousume National Homme is one of those fragrances.
I love spice. I love cinnamon, I love cloves, and I love sandalwood. This fragrance is full of these three. It opens with a grapefruit & bergamot combo which is juicy but surrounded by pepper and dry spices. Also cardamom, which is a note I really love. After a while I get a dried fruit and subtle vanilla, very beautiful. I think that it sits well on skin and blends with body chemistry beautifully.
Overall, this is kinda what I wanted Dolce & Gabbana – The One for men to be. This is like a niche version of that (to me at least). I am a huge fan of warm fragrances with spice and everything nice. I love this and all other types of warm oriental spicy fragrances (Chanel Egoïste, Must de Cartier, Ambre Narguilé). I think this is one which is inviting, unusual and rich. It doesn’t hold back. This fragrance suits my personality well I think. A fragrance which makes people want to come closer to you. Friendly and intriguing.
I really cannot recommend this one enough. But you must like warm, rich spices to like this. A great fragrance!

Update, I finally received the bottle, the spice note of cinnamon and sandalwood come together and done well. Again well worth having as part of your collection’s. Very long lasting.
    @ ericrico…excellent review…
I ordered this fragrance based on several reviews, when they shipped the CoSTUME NATIONAL HOMME..they were right on very potent! The juice has a real sexy and very warm/spicy aroma from cinnamon and gloves. Sandalwood with cardamom gives this juice depth adding a solid base.
There’s just a smig of a floral scent from labdanum with patchouli makes this juice ABOUSOTLEY IRRESISTIBLE.
After this frag settles you get a real attractive blend of spicy notes UNBELIEVABLY masculine.
Longevity and Silage are both very high…this is a real EDP lasting well past 10hrs on my skin.
    Finally thoughts,
I’m fortunate to of tried this juice and I wasted no time buying it online. The boutique that I usually buy my fragrance haven’t seen this fragran
