Description

Davidoff presents a new edition of the women’s fragrance Cool Water (1996), the warm and shimmering Cool Water Sensual Essence. The fragrance is described as glamorous, alluring and sensual, inspired by golden sunset reflected on ocean surface.

The fragrance evokes the flavors of salt and sea on warm skin and the atmosphere of a beach sunset. Perfumer Nathalie Lorson tried to achieve this with notes of exotic flowers and vanilla. The top accords of the composition are bergamot and red fruits that lead to the floral heart of orchid and frangipani. The base rounds the fragrance with aromas of vanilla, musk and woods.

The signature-shaped curvy bottle and box emphasize glamour and sun-inspired theme of this perfume with golden shades. The campaign model is Bianca Balti in the role of a modern mermaid.

The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum, body lotion and shower gel.
Cool Water Sensual Essence was launched in 2012.

Had this some years ago and remember it as a very nice everyday summer kind of fragrance.
A little tickle of tart berries and citrus in the beginning, strong on the frangipani and surprisingly humble vanilla in the dry down.
I don’t remember it to be all that deep or multifaceted, but it didn’t really need to be. It just instantly put you in the right mood for the season.
Back then i had bought a small 30ml bottle at the Berlin airport. I did enjoy it. But didn’t go out of my way to get a bigger bottle after that.
Pleasant, fitting for the season, but for me personally not all that captivating.

I didnt smell any “aquatic” or classic davidoff dna lol (i think i have bad sense of smelling) .. but it is light and fresh yet floral and sweet scent. Very very nice and pleasant though i have so many white floral honey sweet scent, i always excited to wear it. Given the price i paid.. RM70 (equivalent to USD17 and it was an old stock tester unit), no need to think twice to buy it.. so i dont give so much concern on its sillage or projection ;D

Another perfume that I was giving away but I gave it a last chance and decided that I’d better keep it
Last year that I bought it,I used it in cool late winter days and I find it a nice but generic floral-vanilla (the same feeling I have about S by Shakira) but now that I tried it once more in a warm, summer day I was able to pickup more notes.it’s very sweet on me but not cloying and I can smell yummy red berries and a delicious floral accord of orchid and frangipany in a creamy base of woods, musk and powdery vanilla.it’s very inviting and somehow addictive and I like it all through it’s life, from it’s sweet delicious and loud opening to the soft, slightly powdery drydown
I’m so happy that I still have it

While the notes don’t indicate it, I feel Sensual Essence still has some of the fresh, aquatic Cool Water DNA. It’s just less harsh and has some warm and sweet notes, mainly vanilla and red berries, in it. The tropical frangipani is only there for a moment in the beginning, unfortunately. Overall it’s quite a weak fragrance that dries down to a shower gel skinscent with thin red berries.
It would be okay for someone who is just looking for a refreshing summer fragrance with a warm touch, as it’s available for cheap at the moment. If it vanishes from the shelves and gets expensive online one day, don’t bother, nothing special.

The blue women’s Cool Waters is just too sweet for me, but this one was suggested to be similar to one of my holy grail fragrances. I first tried it as a shower gel and then sprang for the big bottle when I spotted it cheap. The gold color reminds me of the sun, and the scent is a citrusy musk with the salty beachy note that makes it a bit different from the many other citrusy musks out there. Like a reviewer below, I know this will be a delight to pull out in winter for a thrill and for some warm vanilla with bright notes.

Although I never liked original cool water,I always had this feeling that I’m going to like sensual cool water a lot so
when I saw a big size bottle for 25$ decided to take it home
Call me crazy but first time I sprayed it,I was immediately reminded of something my husband used to wear couple of years ago!I don’t mean that it’s really manly and I don’t know why it’s linked with Hubby’s scent in my mind(I guess Bergamot, woody notes and spices which stand in background and don’t really showup to my nose are responsible for this masculine vibe).but this is not a negative point, actually I find this association comforting and nostalgic
Cool water sensual is not exactly like my imaginations, still I’m happy that there’s nothing really cool water in it,it’s not cool, not watery/aquatic either
I can pickup a hint of berries but not enough to call it a fruity scent.they’re not sugary childish berries, not sour berries either.I dislike berry sourness and I’m glad that it’s not a sour scent on me.it’s sweet and warm but not too much sweet.it has some sophistication and some masculine vibe that makes it far from a sugar berry fruityfloral.on me it’s mostly a vanilla-floral.
I can get it’s beachy vibe but is not as beachy as usual coconut-tiara/suntan lotion perfumes so it’s way more versatile.I see that most people consider it a summer scent,I agree but I also see it warm enough for fall.actually it’s wearable year round
it’s opening phase is a strong vanilla, which I feel there’s a drop of burnt sugar syrup, amber and spices thrown in it,with some berry naunces but isn’t really gourmand probably because of armatic woods mingling with it as mentioned before.this phase is pleasant, somehow sexy but may seem heavy for some people.it has big sillage and as soon as I sprayed it,I got that sunset, suitable for evening and even night wear vibe;but sillage drops in couple of minutes and it gets better to my nose, softer, with softer and lighter vanilla which isn’t syrupy anymore and starts to showup a creamy, powdery texture, appropriate for day and even office wear,as time passes and florals showup
Well I don’t know how frangipani smells in real life but I guess I know it’s scent in perfumes thanks to my good old kenzo amour and it’s present here too.florals don’t feel like white florals to me,instead of white, they create a sunny, golden effect.sometimes I also feel something like heliotrope.
Drydown is powdery musky vanilla blended with soft flowers.it’s warm, smooth, subtle and smells pleasant.I expected to like it more than I do right now.I’ve loved vanilla all through my life and frangipani and orchid seemed as great choices for accompanying it but in cool water sensual, notes aren’t as well pronounced as independent components.I don’t know how can I explain my feeling, let’s put it that way:it has more of a perfumy vibe which was more common in below 2010 fumes and I preferred more natural vibe.for me another down side is it’s less than moderate sillage.except first minutes,it’s actually a warm, pleasant and gentle musky-vanilla-floral which lasts for 5,6 hours on skin
When first sprayed(I doused myself in it)my man complained that it’s strong and his migran may be intrigued. After less than an hour I asked His idea about it’s scent but he couldn’t smell it until when he sniffed my skin closely!then he called it inviting and pleasant.not girly not old either.
I can’t assume it a total failure because I didn’t pay much.I’d be really glad for this blindbuy if it was stronger.it smells nice specially in it’s drydown and it’s a pity no one can smell it on me

Another blind buy for me, I was looking to replace my Cool Water Summer Seas but I’m always attracted to golden bottles – the feeling of luxury and sunny days I suppose, soooo I went for this. I’m still a little unsure as to how much, but I definitely like it.
I need a warmer, sunny day to wear this though, at the moment the crisp Spring weather makes it feel wrong to wear this perfume!
I like that this fragrance has warmth to it, but isn’t overwhelming, and it retains some of that original Cool Water freshness. This is how I had hoped the L’eau d’Issey Absolue would be executed, a little softer and warmer than the original.
*edit* I bloody love it! 3 months later and I’ve got a better idea of the fragrance so wanted to update! I don’t wear this every day, only on bright sunny days, but it’s the perfect scent for those days when it’s warm so you want something fresh but still powerful.
I love the salty note and vanilla combo, something different but still really classy.

I love this! This perfume is what I hoped Dior’s Dune would smell like. Dune was way to dry-woody for me, but Sensual Essence smells like the perfect salty sensual beach scent to me! I’m sure there’s some salty driftwood in it, and thankfully no aquatic notes!! On me it more of a skin scent, making it suitable for a date IMO. I think this one will layer beautifully with ambers and vanillas. Happy to have this in my collection!

Love this as a summer perfume. This is what summer smells like to me. Warm, sort of tropical and fresh.

  10. :

I echo a previous reviewer who states they get vanilla and musk. It smells like delicately lotioned skin….initially i got a subtle salty note but its fleeting. Nothing remarkable i would likely spray after bedtime bath or if this was a body spray.

  11. :

Love It!!!..this was a blind buy and a good one…it is like a summery, lighter version of far away gold, not as vanillary, it gives off the same sort of vibe…very good.:-)

I had stored the remainder of my bottle away for next summer, but on a whim decided to test this in winter weather. I was delighted to find that I can detect a touch more vanilla on the drydown than in warmer weather. It’s a smooth, golden vanilla like a sunset, not an edible vanilla. The red berry top notes are also more prominent. This juice does indeed feel like the dried salty residue of ocean water on sun warmed skin. Its a welcome change from snow outside and painfully chilled wind. Lovely!

My brother, whom I hadn’t seen in a few years surprised me with a full bottle of this juice from my summer perfume wish list. Since I am a fan of Natalie Lorson perfumes (Chopard Wish, Boucheron Jaipur Saphir & Place Vendome) I expected to love this as well. A note to the ladies: NEVER smell perfume when its that time if the month! Never)! At first sniff on a cold, rainy day all I smelled was pure soap! My head swam and I was so disappointed, but the rest of my family said it was a pretty scent and well blended. So after talking to a fellow Fragrantican (Nil3) I determined to try again another day and promised her a decent review.
So what’s the verdict? I’ve worn this scent for the last several days, which have been quite warm with temps in the high 70’s. The Hawaiian plumeria (frangipani) comes thru the strongest on my skin. (Having lived in Hawaii surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees its a scent I know well). After about an hour the plumeria scent becomes a generally warm, well mixed, salty fragrance, despite the absence of salt as listed note. Though I cannot smell vanilla at all, others around me have said they can detect a hint upon dry down. Its admittedly not the vanilla heavy scent I was hoping for but it is lovely for warm summer days. I do look forward to wearing it by the pool when the sweltering heat of July & August calls for a summer perfume. It isn’t tropical in the least, but it is quite beachy.
Sensual Essence is essentially, a siren awaking from her nap in the sun on an abandoned stretch of rocky, Pacific coastline. She stretches her sleepy limbs to find that the ocean’s salty residue has dried onto her golden skin leaving her with a happy internal warmth. She feels sexy and confident after a day spent basking in the sun. She throws a single backward glance over her shoulder before she wades into the sea and disappears beneath the surface. The sun’s final golden rays casting a myriad of candy colors across the sky and the ocean waves are all that remains.

I kind of like it but nothing strikes me. Nothing unusual. I don’t even smell flowers or fruits. Smells like a a mix of everything. Quite pleasant though.
No lasting power on my skin. Is it Eau de Perfume?? Not even Eau de Toilette. Disappointing.

  15. :

I’m not sure if I like this one or not. I’ll have to give it a good thought! 🙂
Considering a rather small number of ingredients, it is a very complex fragrance- nicely blended, obviously. Moderately fruity and sweet, crisp and yes, I agree with one of the previous comments, although not very strong, it is loud in a very specific way.
I think i expected something less daily and more sensual when I saw the colour of the bottle. instead, I found a light, wearable, somewhat special, I have to admit, but not brilliant fragrance.
Base notes start to emerge very soon and orchid is constantly there, preventing the sweeter notes from taking command. An unusual fragrance but a nice one.

This one takes us on a scenic ride–very different scenery at each turn, while maintaining a level of softly sweet fruity-spiciness throughout the ride. At first spray I was delighted with a powdery sweet vanilla, which morphed to a light citrusy dessert…and seems to be settling with some fruit candy added to the second stage, not in any way synthetic, but natural fruit candy + sweet orange. When I allow the fragrance to waft up from my skin rather than burying my nose in my wrist, the initial powdery mix blends back in. I’m definitely enjoying the whole ride! Possibly a new go-to perfume, yay!

Screechy and ‘loud’. I think I don’t have a right chemistry for that, because no one would produce a scent that smells like it does on my body.

vanilla and musk, when i wear it today.. on sunny day.
warm and moderate in my body.
    its better than davidoff usually.

This is fruity, sweet, and beachy, but not tropical.
I think the red berries and the vanilla are the most prominent in this sweet, syrupy scent. I was worried that the vanilla could be suffocating, but it smells more like amber, than vanilla.
This scent reminds me of sitting on the beach, gazing out at an amber-colored sunset. The golden color of the bottle catches the feeling of this scent.
Frangipani, orchards, red berries, and amber. What more could you ask for?

hmmm interesting.I cant smell it on my wrist almost at all,but it has very good projection
No frangipani at all here.At first i smell too much berry ,and than vanilla vanilla and more vanilla. It kinda reminds me JPG II but much lighter

This beauty is still big in Dubai, after wearing it for 3 hours it remains fresh and yummy!
The vanilla note seems very noticeable at the beginning but gently changes into something more floral and woody with a hint of freshness.
Another lovely Cool Water scent, perfect for a hot summer!

To me Sensual Essence is Oriental floral. Wonderful. On my skin I can smell mostly Frangipani, Vanilla & Musk. Love it.
För mig är Sensual Essence mer en Orientalblommig doft. Superhärlig. På min hud kan jag mest känna Frangipani, Vanilj och Musk. Älskar den, men nyser enormt (allergi mot vissa doftnoter/konserveringsmedel).

At first spray it smells a lot like Sensi but then it turns more sweet. Smells nice even though I’m not that fond of sweet perfumes.

I bought Cool Water Sensual Essence on a whim, mainly because its mid-stage brought to mind the now discontinued Hypnose Senses in the balance of its sweet and floral notes.
It opens with a burst of fruity freshness from the bergamot and red berries with a hint of pinch of pepper.
I like this fragrance more once the sweet/tart opening subsides and it settles into the soft warm floral with the lovely skin scent of vanilla and musk.
Looking forward to more warm days ahead to enjoy this one!

When I took the first sniff after the launch last year I was surprised: Positively surprised. For a Davidoff perfume it was a very special and extraordinary fragrance. I fell in love an soon I bought a 30ml bottle. I used it only rarely, it was almost too valuable to use it too often.
But now after nearly one year I can´t smell it at all cause I used it for work nearly every day. Since then I don´t like it anymore, now it smells like other Davidoff fragrances to me. I won´t buy it again.

Does remind me of a lighter ‘armani code’.

Totally extraordinary fragrance. I don’t know anything similar. All the way from Sephora to home I was thinking about the notes, but it turned out there is no “magical” note in it. It’s just weird itself.
It smells like amber would if it smelled;)
For me – interesting but unwearable !

Received it yesterday and sprayed it on my wrist a minute ago.
    I’m smiling.
Yes,sensual indeed. No cheap scent at all. Now I understand what some here mean with the licorice.
First I was like: HUH!?? Licorice???
Now I just smile. Even though it’s not listed as a note…never underestimate what harmony licorice can give once it becomes friends with the rest of the accords.
Each single accord in this pyramid is singing to me.Yes,unisex it could be. Leaning much more to the feminine side….if you know what I mean.
While I’m writing,,,,,I’m still smiling. What else to expect from a Swiss Man?!
p.s. i truly believe this scent should be worn in a westernized community. Way too sexy.
Good stuff,Zino. You son of a gun!!!!!

    Hmmm,
you know I’m reading the reviews and going:’YAY! Can’t wait to get it (will receive it in like a couple of days)
Then,I’m looking at the people who wrote this and their fragrances and I’m sort of starting to panic.
Everyone who loved this fragance is so into heavy ones like Thierry mugler,J.p Gaultier,Dior’s Poisons( Gosh i hate Dior and ALL the poisons)
But then again,My scent is j.lo glow,so fresh and clean,on the other hand I used Samsara by guerlain.
Guess I just answered my own question and doubt. 😉
Will write a review as soon as I try it.;)

I love frangipani & vanilla so no doubt I love this perfume. It almost smells unisex to me; reminds me a little of a Jean Paul Gaultier unisex scent (i think its discontinued now), think it was called JPG II. Love this, long lasting and very warm and sensual – just my type of scent.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

I had it and I didnt wear it much, I found it pleasant yet non descriptive, not sure in which category it should go!? it is a summery scent, for me it was better than Cool water which smelled like aftershave ,it is fresh , warm also, but Cool Essence didnt capture me much, not sure what it was trying to be, not impressed
Lorson creations just fail to intrigue me for long, her scents are quite vague

  35. :

    5 out of 5

I applied this scent again later in the evening in a larger amount and this time it smelled quite addictive because the licorice kept hanging around. I think I need to try some sprays on my clothes, my boyfriend actually said he liked this smell without me asking (:

  36. :

    5 out of 5

Cute daytime parfume, not special. I did smell licorice in the topnotes but dried down to a vague vanilla scent very fast. I would have appreciated it more if the licorice stayed for a while. Maybe I need a little more on my skin but I prefer a perfume to really interest me when we first meet.

  37. :

    3 out of 5

The aroma of a freshly opened packet of Licorice Allsorts bursts out of the golden bottle onto my skin. The top certainly smells delicious, but nothing like the notes listed would suggest.
In fact the strong rooty aroma of sweetened black licorice lasts well into the dry-down of honeyed conceptual flowers and woods. Syrupy stewed summer berries resonate from the heart.
The base is a sugared vanilla musk smelling good enough to eat, like fondant, bringing me back to my initial impression of Licorice Allsorts.
I like it! I like it a lot. It could even be love.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

A beautiful composition! The first impression is bubbly,
smooth, yet velvety with hints of soft white flowers and
a sweet hint fruit, upon viewing cranberry as the note,
    I must say wow!
This scent lasted the whole day on my skin, in hot and
humid weather (40 C and up!) Sensual Essence reminds me
of some of Thierry Mugler’s perfumes, but this one is
    softer and more celebratory.
    Yum!
    10/10

  39. :

Nathalie Lorson amazed us again! I have to disagree with those who find this fragrance sweet. It is not really sweet, but fruity powdery, maybe even sour, and vanilla here is not excessive. I don’t know why, but soapy powderness of Sensual Essence immediately reminded me of Cacharel Noa, of course, in the modern interpretation. The scent is sophisticated enough, and in the dry down I get a masculine vibe. Definetly, the fragrance deserves to have its own name than to be a flanker of Cool Water.

  40. :

    3 out of 5

Ah, so this is frangipani I smell? The almost sickening sweet prevailing vanilla scent?
I obviously sprayed to much, expecting a Cool Water!
Now after three hours, I can understand why people might like it, but to me it’s just much to sweet. No refreshing notes what so ever.
Too bad, the longevity is great on me. Wished for the opposite but, good news for those who do love it.
    For me never again.

  41. :

Very nice, summery fragrance which is not citrusy fresh but warm, light vanilla-frangipani sweet. It isn’t groundbreaking for sure, but it is well composed, good quality fragrance. Suitable for both: daytime and night. It’s not overwhelming or cloying. Nice, delicate, elegant. I like it alot.
Don’t understand why it came out as a Cool Water family member, should have it’s own bottle and own name, IMO

  42. :

    4 out of 5

I really do not understand something as the manufacturer still line with its name perfumes. Although I understand that they already get from a famous name, but the likes of L’eau Jasmin Noir by Bvlgari exquis has nothing to do with the name Jasmin Noir, and least of all because it is a light, transparent and tea scent that would deserve a separate name. This is exactly what I thought when I looked at the gold pack Davidoff Cool Water Sensual Essence and after the trial has gripped me confidence that Cool Water in the title really has nothing to do. This fragrance is much more a type is very hot (perhaps it could be a Hot Water :)) and also rather sweet – now I smell like a lady evoked by P. Rabanne Million or C. Herrera 212 VIP and I would say that the composition of spins similar folders around – a bit of fruit, white flowers, bergamot, vanilla and woody notes, licorice shown in the composition I was able to register. I think the smell is such an elegant, pleasant, not offend, nenadchne, does not deviate, but unfortunately we find similar clouds, this is a bit more diluted than the aforementioned, as a gift, I would be afraid to buy.
