Coach Leatherware No. 1 is definitely the freshest-smelling of the Leatherware trio, and I regard it as almost a fougere leather without any actual lavender.
I mostly get leather with the spicy, herbal elements of coriander and saffron. Pleasant but daring enough to annoy some, as my understanding is that this tends to be the least popular of the trio.
It’s not strictly masculine, given the mix of elements in it. It’s arguably not a very “pure” leather in that respect, but certainly leathery enough to still be easily regarded as leather-dominant.
Performance is solid without being quite as strong as No. 3, but still solid for an EDP. Discontinued in 2015, I’m glad to have this as pert of my collection even though it’s certainly not my very favorite leather.

I had gotten decants of Leatherware No.s 1,2 and 3 a while back, and decided to revisit them over the last couple days.
All three are definitely beautiful leather scents:
No. 01 – reminds me of a refined version of English Leather, and like others have said, it’s the dry down that makes it worth it. It becomes a nice creamy leather, with a hint of a typical 70s-80s men’s “powerhouse” cologne wafting through the background (none in particular, just the typical “green” fougere). On me it lasts fairly long, still smelling it after at least 7-8 hours.
No. 02 – my least favorite of the three, but I still like this beautiful scent a lot. Fairly linear for me, it’s peppery-woody, with a new baseball glove scent on an almost equal footing. Lasts fairly well, also 6-8 hours.
No. 03 – the boldest of the three. I’m not sure which is my favorite – #1 or #3 (would depend on my mood at the time). It’s a rich leather, and to me has a slight smoky and fruity quality. In fact, my first impression of it was that it reminds me a lot of Afnan Supremacy Silver (a very good Aventus clone), but with a leathery base added. Again, good longevity for me, comparable to the others.

I enjoy this one a lot! It’s very clean and bright, very “green” smelling. It’s saddle-soaped leather, basically.
I feel like the leather isn’t the star of the show in this particular fragrance, but it plays a huge supporting role. The green notes take and hold center stage. The focus tends to be here not so much leather, but the CLEANLINESS of leather. 10/10 for me, I love this way more than I ever thought I would.
*edit: 5/23/15 Coach has cut the price IN HALF. These are now $48 on their site.

Also Coach lists Bergamot and vetiver as well in this cologne.

Just picked up a bottle at the coach store for $48!! What an amazing underrated juice! Smooth, leathery, masculine, classy, and sophisticated are words that come to mind! It is a subtle cologne with moderate to soft projection that will draw people in to have a sniff. Many are complaining about it not being a real EDP but I disagree. It may not project and shout or last a week, but it has a rich concentration of beautiful smelling oils that definitely produce a noticeable scent.
Wear this under a suit, leather jacket, or nice shirt and people will definitely notice your charming smell!

Reminds me of something Jil Sander would have released in their glory days. It is a wonderfully sleek, hip, green and smoky light leather. Inoffensive, but also not your everyday fresh fruity scent. Tres chic!
I wholeheartedly agree with EnglishCountry below. It is the dry down that makes this scent so wonderful. The opening does not really let you know the exquisite beauty that is imminent…it is sort of “meh” just like he said, and then…POW!

Stunning. Absolutely lovely. Thank goodness I waited for the dry down. At first, I felt a little “meh” and moved on to sample Leatherware 2 and 3, probably a good thing. On returning to this beauty, I am entranced. It’s a beautiful, mellow fragrance which reeks of the early 1970s, which is just brilliant, as today’s perfumes leave me cold, so much of a muchness, especially here in the UK, where everything is tainted and turned to bubblegum and rotting fruit by the prohibitive EU laws. I have so got to have a bottle of this. A beautiful spicy brown, mannish scent, loaded with mellow saffron, and freshly polished high quality leather shoes. This throws me right back to the days when Queen were avant garde and new and Roger Taylor smouldered in white. Oh, I simply adore it.

Recently purchased. My first impression was Tuscany. After a few minutes I thought it smelled like Aramis in a more concentrated form. This is EDP level scent. Masculine scent. Balanced leather scent. Not overpowering. Very pleased.

My father owns this fragrance. Last time I visited my parents, I noticed my dad smelled really good. As creepy as that sounds, I was really impressed by the scent. My father was never really a cologne guy. I finally asked him what he was wearing and he showed me the bottle. The bottle is simple and elegant looking however the construction is a little poor. The label on the bottle is only a paper label that will eventually fall of. The cap was plastic and seemed rather cheap. However, the smell was amazing!! It is a soft rich and creamy leather. It really does smell like a quality leather bag or briefcase.
On first spray it is citrusy and spicy. Then the woody and leather notes come through. Overall it is a fresh leather masculine scent that smells very inviting. I would say the longevity was above average but the projection was at around moderate. I occasionally caught a pleasant whiff of the cologne within the 7 hour mark. It is amazingly versatile. It can be worn casually as well as formally and to work. Overall I recommend this cologne to people who love fresh leather scents that are not like tuscan leather.

Oh my this is wonderful. This is for the guy who like coach products. If you walk into a coach store and inhale or sniff your new wallet after you buy this fragrance is for you. It is a buttery leather not dank or raw. The saffron blends very well with the leather notes but what makes this even more attractive for me are the green notes that hang around for the duration of the fragrance.
I want to be honest about something I have become frustrated with niche fragrances as if late. Nice bottles, fancy names and exuberant prices without a lot going on inside honestly. Or of it is a lot it is either I unwearable to the average person who wants to smell good or it is a very close replica to some other popular fragrance (rose and Oud). This fragrance is lucky scent quality. I see this one becoming a classic honestly. It is a a perfect fragrance with timeless qualities. The notes are mature and this is more in the professional/mid level professional. I don’t see it being a head turner in a club but I do see a woman inhaling your aroma as you pass buy. I also think it could be worn by those women who love darker fragrances. A high class Fan de fendi pour homme. Excellent job Coach!!

New leather…
I was instantly impressed w/ Leatherware 01. It smells leathery, attractive, elegant, and manly. The leather here is so enveloping. It is truly representative of Coach’s leather products. Refined and upscale leather. I can smell the woodsy notes and the spices, but they just dance around and complement the leather. The green and citrus notes keep this leather smelling like new leather. Leatherware 01 feels like you open a new leather bag that has been infused in rich spices and woodsy aromas. It is long lasting and projects well. I love it.
