Man, its amazing to me how much I have changed my opinion since the last time I reviewed this. My bottle is almost empty and I am coveting it. I fell unexpectedly in love with this one day last summer, and from then on this has been better to me than the OG BG.
Its summery and comforting… its got, now that I think of it, an almost baby oil vibe, which I now deeply appreciate. It also lasts far longer on me the original BG does.
The oroginal BG is wonderful, and I wont ever let it out of my sight, being the girl of summer that I am, but the Capri is a CUDDLY summer thing… and I really dont want to be without it, either.
Lots of compliments. Tons. Far more than OG BG ever fetches.
Hope I can afford another bottle someday.

Capri is a sexy young woman on her stomach, topless, wearing only a bikini bottom, on a beach in Italy, and a tan handsome Italian guy is putting sun tan lotion on her back that smells like this fragrance. When this perfume begins it’s performance, it is a sweet citrus, mango, grapes/cassis. Really delicious summer fruit smell. Then it begins to turn only a bit floral with a soft pink peony and a green lily of the valley. I don’t really get too much flowers from it and the fruit is stronger on me. Then it beings to become a skin scent or your skin but better, very fragrant and warm sun tan lotion. It’s the amber at play, the patchouli and musk. But there is also a lot of vanilla. All these scents, especially amber and vanilla, smells like really expensive and amazing sun tan lotion. This is sexy, golden, and provocative. I love to wear this at the beach, on cruises, while sailing, and to yacht parties. It’s not tropical but it is definitely a summer time fragrance to wear to the beach or out at sea. Gorgeous!

I bought this because I needed a frag for a summer high school reunion of my old beau who invited me to his 30 year reunion the day of. I only had like 5 hours to get my shit together. I tested it at the counter and was not wowed in the least, but in my rushed thinking I simply hoped that the name Bronze Goddess had some magic that I wasnt getting from the frag. That somehow it would prove itself during the evening. Never do that. It doesnt work.
The name suggested beauty, exotic, and summer and fun. To my nose it fell so short of these things its almost comedy. I dont mean to be insulting to anyone who loves this version. Its just not to my personal taste.
I just find the juice in this pretty bottle boring in the extreme. Amber without depth… It feels like a lazily thrown together compilation of notes. I give others who who claim to have been touched by the magic of this the benefit of the doubt. But for me… Its just amber and citrus, and while it may hint at summer… it doesnt smell of summer fun in any way to me. If anything, to me its a boring hot summer day when youre annoyed and pmsing. Its like being unable to extricate yourself from a boring conversation.
I wanted coconut and magnolia, mango, and maybe some spicy horchata… Man that sounds SO good. Where is THAT?
Ive ordered the original Bronze Goddess and am looking forward to finding out what the hype is all about over this line.
EDIT/UPDATE: I dont know what happened tonight… Its a rare warm evening in SF and I just took my dog out for her last walk of the night… Before leaving I reached for this and spritzed it on my arm, and was struck with a new epiphany of beautiful fragrance. Then, I spritzed it all over … wanting to bathe myself in it. Tonight for the first time ever, I appreciate Capri (I bought Capri in 2012)… very much, in fact. What a total shock. Tonight, for the first time I got lemon zest, lemonade with carmalized sugar, heady jasmine, and then a gorgeous amber. Wow!! Comforting, warm, and fresh with that lemon note. There’s a real sea salty scent here too. I havent seen it listed or mentioned before, but I swear thats what I am getting. Even more so when I picked up my shirt from yesterday to put in the laundry. The shirt had the BG all over it, and by the next day it smelled exactly like I had worn it all day at the beach. No perfume smell, just nor cal salty sand beach. Very interesting. Maybe I am just hallucinating. I am having a real love affair now. I can only imagine that I will love the original BG even more deeply, but we will see.
Sometimes I think that writing a negative review is some kind of spell that turns the frag you dont like into a frag you will love. Strange.
EDIT/UPDATE: So, I reached for the original azure influenced BG constantly this summer, favoring it over the Capri version. I favored it so much that I used it all up just in time for fall… (used the last of it two days ago). Now, its still warm and I am still tan and wearing summer dresses, so I am turning back to Capri to ease my jonesing for the original BG. I have honey scented lotion on, and put Capri over it and… the two combined unexpectedly turned into Amaretto cookie smell.. which is novel and delightful… and oh so italian 🙂 I love it when layering produces interesting things like that.

I love this edition of bronze goddess. Yes I know its not coconuty like the others but it still smells beachy summery yet creamy and it lasts & lasts. If you can get hold of noir by the White Company the one in the black box not white box I think it smells very like it.

Capri is the only Bronze Goddess I have tried in the range. I can only find it now on Ebay and am constantly on the lookout for it!
I always get compliments when I wear it and it seems to suit my skin so well…
I absolutely LOVE it!! Anyone who has a bottle for sale, please let me know!!

I’ve always been a fan of Bronze Goddess. It’s rich coconut smell just takes you away. However, Capri is just plain awful. I feel like I rubbed myself against a diaper. Horrible. If I wanted to smell like this I would just wear talcum powder. Seriously, it smells like a nursery. Worst part, it stays on strong for hours. I had the nerve to spray it once on my arm before a 4 hour flight and I regretted it the entire trip.

Bronze Goddess Capri is very different from previous Bronze Goddess fragrances. I was expecting to smell that coconutty, sun-tan oil note that I have always associated with this series, but what I got was a vanilla-amber combo with a fresh hint of citrus.
Bronze Goddess Capri has the tendency to grow on you, even if the first testing left you less than impressed. I’m rather enjoying this summery representation of vanilla and amber. You don’t smell a light version of this blend all too often.
That being said, I do still prefer the pre-2010 Bronze Goddess with all the coconut, sand and sun-tan oil. Bronze Goddess Capri is not beachy enough for my liking.
Unfortunately this fragrance has a somewhat synthetic feel, which can be a little irritating at times. The dominant musk note in the drydown only amplifies the unnatural qualities that this fragrance possesses.
If anything, Bronze Goddess Capri smells more like a lotion or a face powder than a perfume. I think I could enjoy wearing Bronze Goddess Capri on a hot Summer’s day, provided that it is applied in small doses. The lasting power sure is impressive, definitely heat-proof.

I was almost expecting to love this scent before I even tried it on, as I already have Bronze Goddess. I love how it smells.. Really summery, powdery, coconutty/vanilla smell. I am obsessed with it!

I’m sorry, this one smells like someone mixed bug repellant into their suntan lotion. It not only offends the senses, but simultaneously destroys any romantic notions of visiting the Island of Capri – if this is what it “smells” like! I can envision the department of tourism slapping a “cease and desist” order on Estee Lauder for costing them tourist dollars with this “take” on their beautiful island!

CAPRI= Confusing/clashing scent I do not enjoy this at all. Headache & musty. The citrus note has no confidence so the baby powder comes in to take over and its a MESS. It has no ides where its going, HOWEVER the original Bronze Goddess knows whats going on and it is nothing like this awful scent.

For me this perfume is fantastic.
    The best perfume for summer.
    I LOVE BRONZE GODDESS.

Citrus and luminous opening, but unexpectedly sweet in the drydown. This is nothing like the original Bronze Goddess, this is definitely a fruity floral.
The mandarin, jasmine and amber predominate. The vanilla makes it a little too cloying, maybe this accounts for mentions of baby powder. Maybe better for summer nights, rather than the heat of the day.
It is very long lasting, going on for several hours.

This is exquisite!! vanilla and ambery, with mandarin the dry down reminds me of Lancome Connexion and it lasted all afternoon.

I haven’t been able to smell the original Bronze Goddess yet, so I can’t compare the two, but I was able to try Capri in the department store today. It started off on a discordant note – citrus underscored with warm vanilla – and I had to walk around and wait for the scent to settle a little more. Once it settled, I kept getting these wonderful wafts of a soft floral vanilla, but every time I held my wrist up to my nose, the sharp lemon would start in again. It felt unbalanced.
Further along into drydown, this gets better. Now it’s a warm amber vanilla, with clean jasmine and I even get a bit of lily of the valley. I can definitely smell the baby wipes/baby powder that some people are getting. I wouldn’t call this a particularly summery scent, but honestly, that distinction is pretty arbitrary anyway. I say give this a sniff, and then pick it up for the summer if you like it.
For me, I think I’m gonna try to get my hands on the original Bronze Goddess.

Tested it today and i gotta say i really like it although its nothing like the previous bronze goddess range. Its definately got better lasting power then soleil anyway. A fair bit heavier then the previous ones too. You can really smell the vanilla in it i am getting this for sure

I do like this product, but I plan to return it, as EL has recently restarting testing certain products on animals in order to enter the chinese market…
edit – China no longer requires animal testing, apparently, & I’ll be using this one up.

Wow, what a strange fragrance. If you were to mix together the scent of baby wipes, sunscreen and vanilla, you’d get the base of Bronze Goddess Capri. I normally despise fragrances that smell anything like baby wipes or baby powder. Strangely enough, I find this intriguing.
In Capri I smell the juicy mandarin orange combined with a smooth vanilla accord, which for some reason takes on that unexpected baby lotion scent. When I put my nose up to my skin, I am first drawn in by the soft, warm vanilla. A second later, the baby wipe scent makes itself known. Then I get the sharp, green, piercing scent of the patchouli and cassis entering the mix. One moment this smells like baby wipes and I can’t help but be slightly repulsed. Then at other times I get the gorgeous warm vanilla mixed with the animalic, sensuous vibe of sun-warmed skin. I really like the discord between the creamy vanilla and the sharp patchouli.
Last year’s Bronze Goddess Soleil was a major snore, and the strangeness of Capri is a definite improvement. I still prefer the suntan oil/hot sand vibe of the original Bronze Goddess, but I am much more fascinated by Capri than I expected.

I tried it a few hours ago and it was love at first smell! Steps out from the croud. A very, very unique summer’s frangrance.
Although I’m a huge fan of fresh perfumes like pleasures, I liked it so much, I can still smell it on my wrist. Has a warm scent but it isn’t heavy or unpleasant. Very french riviera and sailing boat mood.
It reminds me a little of Alchimie Rochas but Capri is much more lighter.
I was searching for a cucumber or melon kind of perfume for this summer but although Capri is completely different, I’m definitely going to buy it.
So very chic, I love it!

Sadly, this one is medicinal and cheap smelling. It is nothing like the regular Bronze Goddess – not even a little. The vanilla notes are thin and grating – how can that be? I agree with the other reviewers about the heaviness. Really disappointing.

  25. :

    3 out of 5

Oh no! I need to edit my review. This doesn’t remind me of baby lotion – it reminds me of nappy sacks! Those yucky perfumed sacks designed to disguise the smell of baby poo!

  26. :

Once the citrus dies down this smells a bit like baby lotion (something that I don’t personally mind). I kind of got talked into buying this by the sales assistant – I was buying some moisturiser and they had a free gift if you bought two products. She said they only had 2 left and they’re a limited edition. I like it but I don’t love it.

I think my skin must really like amber!
On me it smells full of amber-y goodness, like your skin on a hot day, rather than something designed to cool you down or refresh you. It smells like summer, rather than something designed to refresh on a summer’s day.
I really like it, it’s a sweet light oriental I can use in summer time, but maybe not on a REALLY hot day.

  28. :

Sprinkling yourself with baby powder and eating a vanilla ice cream sandwich while staring at a sea of liquified amber… weird image right? That is what Bronze Goddess Capri smells like to me. This fragrance evokes no sense of summer at all. Perhaps if I imagine I’m doing these activities while seated in an inflatable pool raft, it’ll feel more summery.

This is crazy but I bought this mostly for the bottle and that I know the stores will run out of it soon. Grabbed the last one…
It is not the bronze goddes I thought it would be , fresh with amber, vanilla and patcholie – but still fresh….
The only thing I could have wished for is that the burst of petite grain and orange would last longer. This fresh fruity amber and vanilla combo is just the right amber with a kind of freshness you need on a súmmer day, when you dont want the zesty citrus all over you and dont need
the suntan coconut smell either…. Great !
Updated – however I got bored, since the base note of amber is a little plain, couldnt get over that, I had to swapp it. I wish the house could make it in smaller quantities. Then I MIGHT get it again !
I actually find it a little sharp, when I tried it in stores again,
will probably get senseous nude instead ,it is said to be similar but more subtle…

Disappointingly low silleage and longevity. Smells citrus and a little vanilla just after application, nice but nothing special. And almost everything gone after 30 min, only a faint vanilla lingering if I press my nose to my wrist.

I’m wearing Capri for some days now. I was expecting many things from, but i think its not the summer scent i was looking for. It is very deep vanilla to me..I like it but i can hardly finish the bottle.

    Update:
To add to my previous review below, I wore this again with slightly cooler weather recently, and the amber really stood out for me. Still a soft and subtle amber. I love Capri even more each time I wear it!

I sampled it this weekend at Nordstroms-I have Bronze Goddess from 2010 which is a great suntan lotion scent but this bears no resemlence to BG 2010 or 2011. This has citrus, lily of the valley and peony? I would have never guessed. Right away, I get sweet vanilla, jasmine and patchouili. I also thought it smelled rather familiar. this scent is rather linear and remains the same pretty much throughout. It turned into skin scent after about hour and the half, and if I pressed my nose to the skin, I could still smell it fainly, 5 hours after that. For ear frache this is pretty good. I have to say that after 2 hours I finally realized that its smells like softer and lighter version of Pleasures Delight. To my nose, it has a hint of powder also. When I was young, my mom had this powder from Lancome and this is what it reminded me off.
My verdict-nice, I like it. I am still trying to decide if I want to buy a bottle since I like it but not madly in love with it.
Incidentally, I don’t know why its called Capri-I was imagining something with more citrus and more floral smelling with the name like that. I don’t think the name really suits it but that’s just me

I had the Bronze Goddess and I loved it. At the airport they had a special promotion for Capri and the price was great so I grabbed one. I loved this one also.. A little bit lighter than the original but it just makes me feel as if summer is here and I have a bronze skin 🙂 It is not in the league of the classical, light, fresh summer perfumes. But my skin is too dry and those light versions just dont stay.. I also love very much the warm feeling it gives! Just cannot wait for Summer!!

  35. :

Perhaps it reminds Dolce Cabana the one. It is nice, but not a refresing fragrance. As it has been said, it is rather a spring or fall smell. I was waiting for a sharper, more citrusy refreshing smell and not an oriental one…

Today I tested this at Belk after much anticipation.
A note about the Bronze Goddess line:
Capri is an eau fraiche skinscent like the others from this line, therefore a light scent…that’s a great thing for hot summer days though. Also, it’s only available once annually in the spring. The Estee Lauder SA told me that once its sold out, no more are produced until the following spring.
    Review of Capri:
Capri is heavy on patchouli in comparison to the coconut-y-suntan lotion-y original Bronze Goddess version available this year. I really like it, but it wasn’t what I expected. I find this heavy for summer and believe it would be a great transitional scent for late summer/early fall. This scent is well blended and I smell none of the individual notes, other than patchouli of course. Capri is warm and sensual yet light and refreshing.
    Verdict:
I prefer the scent of the original Bronze Goddess for summer days, but may purchase this for a summer evening or late summer/early fall scent. I LOVE the bottle designs from this line.
    Rating:
    4.5/5 STARS
Update: I couldn’t wait considering this sells out quickly and then becomes hard-to-find and Estee Lauder also has a free skin care gift with a $35 purchase going on right now,so I bought it from Belk yesterday!

Saw the pretty bottle at the Estee Lauder counter and couldn’t resist spraying. My first reaction was of juicy tropical fruit, very refreshing. I expected it to fade away quickly and that the fruitiness would dry down into something that would resemble a tropical cocktail after the ice melts, but this did not happen! When I sniffed my arm a little later, imagine my amazement to smell a soft, creamy vanilla with a good dose of musk. I smell jasmine very easily as well. It’s so warm, and with the trail of fruit left behind, it very much made me feel like I was on a beach vacation. I went back to Estee Lauder a couple hours later to purchase a bottle. If you don’t like coconut but want a beautiful, tropical perfume for the summer that is not made by Jennifer Lopez or Victoria’s Secret, I highly recommend trying this one out. It’s basically a tropical vanilla.

Sadly, I have to agree with Pa.princess. I was very much looking forward to this release, since I own and LOVE all the other ones from this line. Since I live in Europe I had to buy it blind from the internet. Once it arrived I put it on immediately and hated it, I was still hoping it would get better once it dried down..it didn’t. Can’t describe it any other way. It is nothing like bronze goddess eau fraiche or soleil. I don’t even feel like it’s particularly a summer scent.
To me, this smells just like Givenchy’s Amarige Mariage, which I don’t like.
I will stick with the original Bronze Goddess..

I was anxiously awaiting the release of this one. Three words…what a scrubber!!!!! Spritzed it on and walked around the store for abit to let it dry down. Couldn’t stand it-had to go to the bathroom to wash it off. Disapointing 🙁
But I did get myself a big bottle of the original Bronze Goddess! 🙂

Sampled this today and it smells wonderful. I have loved all the Bronze Goddesses. They are instant vacation – instant summer. Has a warm, hint of lemon start – then not too sweet, but fresh and bit a flowery amber that smells warm and relaxing. Buying this for sure!
