This is definitely a wonderful introduction to Mandy Aftel’s creations, but not a good example of the potency many of her beloved perfumes have to offer. (her Oud, for example, is stunning & loud). Aftelier’s Amber is a lovely warm, balsamic, sweet & mild mannered amber, with just the right hint of lime zest, brown sugar and wildflower (an elegant dry lavender that is very subtle & modern…no grandmotherly lavender here!) to keep it interesting. The sillage & longevity are quite weak… But I prefer not to intrude into a public space with my scents. This would be wonderful on A man or woman. My body chemistry tends to burn off top notes immediately, so I like to add a lime essential oil to layer with this one. I find myself going back to my perfume cabinet every few days and sniffing this, it’s just so natural and understated!

same with me. love at first sniff. it was a revelation, really, to smell this level of quality ambergris supported by citrus.
i wear this any time, anywhere, and it is totally unique and comforting.
btw- why isn’t ambergris mentioned in the notes here? hmmm. it is named for it after all.

What IS it with me and some Aftelier perfumes??!! This is the second one that I’ve tried that has caused a case of love at first sniff. (Shiso is the first.) I am trying to fight off the impulse to buy the FB right now.
I’ve been testing some lovely perfumes over the last couple weeks, by Hermes, Chanel, By Killian, Robert Piguet, and I could go on. But something about Aftelier is just plain seducing me.
My nose just isn’t well educated enough to describe this scent as well as I like, but I get spicy, smoky, sexy and then the brain stops functioning.
