Description
Thierry Mugler did not resist the challenge to present to the market his perfume which contains precious oud in his name and ingredients. Honestly, I expected to see oud firstly in a masculine composition, combined with coffee, woody notes, leather and spices, but in the middle of summer 2015 full-blooded Alien was presented which arrives as an oriental and very spicy version of the original version of Alien.
We are already used to Mugler’s ‘kitchen’ in which everything is possible and which has been launching extraordinary versions of the original themes for many years. Its fragrant versions now truly satisfy numerous fans of perfumes because they do not lose quality nor invention regardless that sometimes only small details are in question. The Alien collection has now received another version which contains DNA of the original and plays on traditional Arabic ingredients. ALIEN OUD MAJESTUEUX is another creation for which we can say that its composition is built on a synthesis of East and West, and their contrasts.
Sensuality and ardor are the main characteristics of this edition. Top notes of the composition vibrate in rhythm of spices by creating harmony of hot cardamom and flamboyant chords of saffron. The heart provides jasmine flowers typical of the popular Alien, combined with cashmeran, leaving authentic signature of the original composition, surrounded by flavors of precious oud creating a fragrant swirl around the woody-floral blend and making the base mysterious and deep. Composition of the fragrance is characterized as woody-floral with expressive amber.
Flacon of the latest Alien takes the form as Alien like EDT and summer limited editions which have been launched for numerous years. Luxury of the ingredients is depicted with color of gold and amber in a flacon iridescent to highlight the body of the flacon. The new Alien arrives in lucky charm flacon with glittery, golden decorations to provide particular charm and energy. It arrives in a box with mirrors inspired by sophistication and femininity. Fragrance ALIEN OUD MAJESTUEUX is available as 90ml – on the official website of Thierry Mugler.

Bought this for my wife and I love the smell of it on her. She has been wearing it all summer and autumn and has received many many compliments. I hated the smell of the original Alien on her and I don’t think that they are similar.
Angeloflight – :
It smells ok, similar to the one in the purple bottle, but it’s far from oriental. I don’t detect any Oud in this, luckily it was just a sample that i purchased… Names are so deceiving for marketing purposes.Thumbs down! All i get is a watered down vanilla on a soft woody base. Fail…..
jorik051 – :
This perfume has one of the most delicious dry down ever. I wasn’t impressed with the opening, but after some time (30 minutes, maybe less) the scent changed and became a sexy, enticing smell, perfect amount of sweetness. I think this is much better than the original alien, not as sharp. I was afraid of the cat pee smell some people talked about but I didn’t experience any of it at all. I will probably buy a full bottle.

This is an amazing flanker!
It’s like the original Alien but warmer, more sensual and more oriental thanks to the combo spices/oud.
Perfect for colder months.
Great lasting power and sillage.
Sexy.
natashaosm86 – :
To me it is a true unisex, as it has heavier and more masculine touch. It is like true Alien Man with original jasmine, amber Alien DNA. Close to niche.
andalestr – :
I remember this being more ambery in the store, but now that I sourced a sample and have it on, I feel it’s a very loud dominant oud, not the soft kind but the harsher more authentic oriental kind. Cardamon is probably the second dominant note, the rest blend in unnoticeable. Oud softens on drydown, more earthy than loud or skanky. White florals come out later.
skatuifstug – :
Today I layered this alien beast with my diorissimo the queen, hahhhhh!! Heavenly. As a 90s kitten, I don’t care if it’s too much and too loud. Hahhaha!
Aerohoplenerijui – :
I don’t know why I do this to myself.
I smell a perfume. I like it. I read the notes. It has Jasmine (which I absolutely HATE). I buy it anyways.
Two years later, still struggling to finish the damn 90ml.
I adore Alien, and this Oud twist is beautiful but sometimes suffocating due to my hate towards Jasmine.
Denepneurpale – :
I gave up on trying mugler fragrances, But!! Once I gave this one a try,,, OMG, this one is alien plus the luxuriousness of oud, so sensual so vampy so elegant and warm fragrance my first hit for bugler fragrances,,, absolutely a winter fragrance, and on the heavy side for sure!
not for day-to-day use!! but for a special occasion!
Edit 24/3/2018: somehow I find it mature scent!
kononsps – :
This is my first mugler perfume. I was a little hesitant at first, but then I bought it after reading the reviews here on Fragrantica. I must say that this is my new found love and it did not disappoint at all.
LeonidLey – :
There was a great sale on it in the duty free shop in London airport. I tested it there and liked it very much to the point of wanting to buy it right on the spot. But since I never before tried any fragrance with oud I just wanted to consider this scent a little bit longer than 5 minutes… Too bad I had a short connection and had to continue with my flight while still pondering if I should buy this or not. People say in reviews a lot that fragrances with oud are tricky and not for everybody, so I was cautious waiting for something weird in the development. But later on I regretted not taking a chance and buying this beautiful fragrance at an unbeatable price. It was amazing and strong on the initial spritz, the dry down was smooth, warm and woody, and the longevity was impressive as well. At least now I know that I like the oud note. At least in this particular fragrance. And it is true that it’s a twin of original Alien. I don’t own Alien, so this can be a more woody substitute which I would prefer to the original. You probably don’t need both of them in the collection.
PaulK – :
I have to add my two penn’orth.
I think that – if you are used to oud in perfume – you will not find it to be an overwhelming note in this version of Alien.
I have and love a number of Alien iterations, including the original; oud here adds depth to an already wonderful fragrance.
The sillage and longevity of this are fairly monstrous though (greater than the original, I think), so take care not to do overdo as it will be TOO MUCH for you and any unfortunate bystanders. Two sprays (neck and once on wrists, rubbed together) maximum should do it.
drupey – :
I don’t usually mind oud based scents. However the opening to this on my skin is straight up cat pee. Even the woody ambery dry down has an unpleasant sour note to it.
Undoubtedly strong and lasting, but as an Alien lover I really do not like this. It’s just not for my skin chemistry and not for my nose.
zezikN73 – :
I do prefer the original Alien , the dry down of AOM is pretty sour and the initial blast unfortunately knocks me down in a bad way , it’s a pity , I expected something different , for those who wonder if it’s worth to get AOM my personal opinion is no , stick to Alien . Oh and the projection and lasting power are killers , this is strong !
xxk321elipseskism – :
As soon as I tried this I was looking for the nearest washroom to wash it off. I don’t know how this concoction can even be called perfume.
33211 – :
The opening to this is straight up eau de nursing home. Flowers and urine. Strong urine :
serlavrenyuk – :
then it settles into a more mature Alien but it’s just not for me.
However..I bought a Swiss Arabian attar dupe of this off eBay and LOVE it. No stinky sour nursing home notes.. just pure baby powder fresh oud.. it’s lovely. I recommend the dupe 😉
deganzawerr – :
I love Alien so i thought i will love this too, tried this today and i have to say i don’t like it much, maybe oud is not my scent but after 6 hours on my skin is good and kinda like it then. The lasting power is great like all Mugler perfumes. The bottle is gorgeous too, i wanted to love this so badly i even almost blind buy it.
7/10
pfm758speagoessenda – :
A oudy take on alien. It has more complexity than Alien. Jasmine subdued but present. Its warm and cozy but not going to bowl you over. It has that signature alien amber. If you are interested in exploring a tame oud…this is s good try. Sample first! Mirror Voluptes is much better oud in his line. IMO
cjh090Diobtetty – :
on me this dries down to the original alien edp so i couldn’t justify paying for this when i have the original.. initial blast is different to alien edp but after that 10 minutes it’s the same (on me)
however, for those who haven’t got the original try them both & if you’re new to alien this one maybe more for you but for me personally i wouldn’t bother.
tenoeloriedEn – :
I love this perfume but it’s too close to the original for me to justify a full bottle purchase. I going to layer the original with an Oud attar to get this effect.
bridecret – :
I could definetly smell the oud and some weird smoky syrupy thing that just made me almost gag from how horrible it was. But it lasts a really long time for anyone whos wondering
321262roma – :
This is exactly what it’s titled: Alien Oud. There’s obviously an initial oud blast with Alien’s Jasmine along for the ride. While I find oud to be an almost piercing scent (which I do enjoy), it muffles the brightness of Alien, giving it a warmth I don’t get from the original. I’m a bit bewitched by this. To me oud is a huge statement maker, yet this feels softer than Alien. This will definitely require more applications, but I do like this.
antons – :
I absolutely love the dry saffron blast you get from this in the immediate opening. If it stayed like that for longer? This would be an immediate winner for me. For the first time, I smell saffron in a fragrance that isn’t too skanky. It’s a gorgeous dry exotic saffron.
This is very fleeting though, because what happens straight after is the whoosh of original alien and Oud take over.
They are perfectly balanced, none ever over taking the other. I’m grateful for this because as a person who is iffy with oud in the first place? It’s a refreshing change from the abundance of oud dominated perfumes on the market. They are intertwined very well.
The alien smooths out the oud, and the oud enhances the alien. I’ve always thought Alien had a middle eastern feel anyway so, the addition of oud just brings that out more, Alien and Oud seem to be a great match and get along very well. It’s almost like they take turns in showing themselves. Sometimes I smell alien, sometimes I smell oud and other times they are both right there in the forefront.
I don’t think it’s much more complicated than that. If you know what Alien smells like? And you know what oud smells like..close your eyes…smoosh them together and you’ve pretty much got it. It doesn’t need to be dissected any more than that!
Shame about that gorgeous opening being so fleeting though… 🙁
Lexxx81ei – :
I find this perfume similar to the initial Alien, but it has some “strange”, out of this world, unique overtones (oud perhaps) and I think this makes it more suitable for the “Alien” title than the original one 🙂

Fragrance Review For Alien Oud Majestueux Thierry Mugler
Top Notes Cardamom Saffron
Middle Notes Jasmine Cashmere
Base Notes Agar Wood Oud Amber
Has this been discontinued? I pray it hasn’t. Some of my friends have just learned to love the Alien fragrance line. I had this one when I bought a Liqueur de Parfum and Eau Extraordinaire. This is a fantastic oud Oriental fragrance. To my nose it’s Alien the original only stepped up a notch with more woods. It has a strong oud which wears like the ouds in most Oriental Arabic oud perfumes I’ve experienced. To me the original Alien has something off about it. It’s not bad but it was missing something. What it was missing was pure oud. This fragrance completes the notes that should have been in the original Alien. Majestic Oud opens with an instantly spicy aromatic scent of cardamom ginger and a saffron. Smells elegant, seductive and spicy. Unisex. It has that same indolic dark night jasmine as in Alien but here the cashmere wood takes over the middle phase of the fragrance. It’s a very feminine feeling cashmere note and not terribly musky. The agar wood aroma begins to appear after the jasmine disappears. There is a long dry down and it lasts forever. All I smelled in the end was oud oud oud. It’s an elaborate and well made oud and it took me by surprise. I highly recommend it. If you can find it online anywhere ebay or the Thierry Mugler website get it. Get it! You’ll love it but you have to be a fan of oud and know what oud wears like on you. On me any note works but I’m different LOL
stiffceappids – :
There’s something about oud that irritates me, I think it’s the hazy smokiness it gives off when I smell it; it’s nice but can be slightly irritating/nauseating. Initially this smelled just like typical Alien and I was unimpressed. 20 minutes later and the oud kicked in; it was deep, musky and sensuous. An hour later and I was back to that odd feeling that oud gives me. It’s a nice flanker but not for me. I would definitely love to buy it because the bottle has a gorgeous gold/bronze ombre effect going on but £115 in my opinion isn’t worth it.
alex0998 – :
I ordered this with some trepidation considering its high price tag and my inability to obtain a sample. The reviews here encouraged me, and the original Alien is a huge love, so I took the plunge. I got my package and tore into it with glee only to realize–it was someone else’s order! My heart sank. It took muglerusa.com almost a week to rectify the situation. Fortunately, the juice was worth the wait…..lovely warm smoky spicy ambery jasmine. After a few wearings, I did notice a sort of pervasive testosterone sweat vibe that bothered me a bit; undeterred, I kept trying it, telling myself that was probably the oud. Now it just smells all around wonderful. Glad I persisted with it.
markov1977 – :
Matty64, thank you for your kind words. I’ll try not be so gullible in future. I’m now trying to buy fragrances which I love, no more buying and hoping I’ll grow to love them, I’m going to go with my first reaction.
Antonioilmir – :
I’ll write my second review on this. Now that I’ve worn it in the fall, I’ve had a really different experience with it than in the summer when I tried it for the first time.
In cooler weather, I really love this perfume. It’s true that it’s very reminiscent of the original Alien, but I definitely can smell the oud too, in fact I think it’s blended really well. I find the Oud is more present at the opening, and the dry down is very similar to Alien, though I stiff get whiffs of the Oud.
This is strong stuff. It lasts all day and lingers on clothing for days afterwards.
I prefer this to the original Alien. I somehow find it less offensive, maybe less sweet, a little more sophisticated and mysterious.

Sampled it on Paper strip only:
I was asking all the shops for the last months if this scent will be available and when… Noone could give me an answer… They always wanted to sell me Eau Extraordinaire as ‘new’… As, if I know the name of a new release they didn’t even heard themselves, they could sell me an ‘oldy’ as new, puh *rollseyes*
Anyway, last week I was walking though the perfume section of a department store and suddenly there was it!
Sprayed it on a paper, hand shaking of excitement, sniffed.. and..
Disappointment.
It smells much like Alien, maybe a bit creamier and a bit woodier. But I don’t get much oud. Nice, but not too special (I liked the Liqueur version better).
In the drydown it gets more and more closer to the original.
It is definitely strong, hey it’s a Mugler after all, I put the paper strip in an inside pocket of my wool coat to see how it would develop, getting whiffs constantly, and after I got home and took off the coat, my shirt smelled of Alien Oud Majestueux (through 4 layers of lining!).
Still, because of the higher price, this is only for the Alien fanatics or the wealthy parfumistas, who can appreciate rather subtle variations.
olegsmall – :
god do I want this – original alien is one of ‘my’ scents and I am over the moon for oud!!
Etdulcea – :
Big windows Oudy lol
Sportcus15 – :
Lol…below….they saw you coming, didn’t they
ChiefOiler – :
I just bought this today in Arnotts in Dublin, the sales lady said they are the only stockist in Ireland and they would only be sent 12 bottles in total, ever!!!
I wasn’t impressed by the tester bottle, I get that strong, bitter note that Olga_Adriana mentioned below. It’s very bitter and strong, plain nasty really. But it’s the new Alien and there’s only going to be 12 bottles in Ireland, so I bought it. I hope that the unpleasantness disappears because at €139 there’s no chance I’ll be leaving it at the back of the shelf.
That note aside, yes, it’s definitely Alien and all it will take for me to really like this is a compliment or two. Yes, I am that shallow but I knew that when I visited the store 3 times in one week to see if it had arrived. Highlight of my week was seeing it on the shelf.
sam1947 – :
Loooove it! Same as the original Alien with an added touch of dark wood/smoke. Plus the bottle is gorgeous!
jameswade5 – :
I found it in the Munich Airport duty free shop but there was no tester and didn’t want to blind buy…reading all your impressions I kind of wish I would..
tez878intitytek – :
Yes it is the same!! I asked my friend who lives in Paris,!!
I have it, great scent!!
soprani – :
It’s definitely a beauty. Where there’s oud, there’s smoke 😉
And this scent is a scent the is surrounded by a veil of smoke and precious notes of
warm wood and that distinct smell of amber….
The scent is still warm on the skin thanks to the cardamom and yields a beautiful yet
soft woody floral aura.
DismSnosmor – :
Just got this in the mail! I have been so excited to try this and went straight and blind bought the 90ml when it became available at Harrods. And let me just say: OMG you guys! This is the original Alien with a hint of oud and cardamom. The oud is nowhere near as intense as I thought it would be and is actually very pleasant. It just feels like an even more perfect Alien – Alien 2.0 (same longevity and sillage, just smells even a little better).. I reckon this will be perfect in the colder months and I can just imagine how wonderfully this scent will linger on all of my cashmere sweaters and warm cardigans. The gradient gold bottle (and box it came in) looks stunning! A true beauty on any vanity.
Staxesset – :
Great creation! A friend sent me a sample, so glad to try it!! Top notes are warmed by the oud, but not in an excessive way, this is not an oud bomb at all, the saffron is soft, and in the drydown, this becomes the Alien we all know, warm. Smooth. With a creamy Jasmine note…although I dislike most oud, I can definitely handle it here, as it isn’t dominant, or cold..it is almost a casual scent, always high quality, with the amber that is part of Mugler signature.
Definitely on my want list!!
Update: I sold it, the saffron and oud in the top notes just didnt work for me!
Beeklymaymnsziwy – :
I want Amen Pure oud edition too:)
zxcvb1z – :
I just received Alien Oud Majestueux and I love it!!. It has the DNA of Alien without doubt, but with a twist. I can perceive mostly at first the Saffron mixed with the Jasmin, it has something fresh at the same time. As it dries it gets more woody, feminine and always with the Mugler’s Alien signature.
The Jasmin here is with high quality, very natural, with a spicy edge.
Long lasting and noticeable, but very wearable. The Oud gives a warm aura, with the Amber.
I see it like very enigmatic and with big personality.
lychko.egor – :
I love Alien and I would love to smell this one… maybe in the future a gourmand Alien with praline? Hummm and maybe lily and maybe… 🙂
HoroAcereeFef – :
The oud trend is showing no signs of slowing down… wonder what it will give way to? Still, I’m looking forward to testing this out.
ruslan41986 – :
Thierry Mugler has joined the Oud Trend too? Alright.
