I learned while preparing for a trip to Ghana that lavender works great as an insect repellent, so even though I don’t wear it that often as a stand-alone scent, it’s perfect for days spent outside.
Cologne days continue in Boston, and I’m planning to spend the day on the deck writing, so Agua de Sevilla Agua de Lavanda seemed like a perfect choice–and it is! Another fine cologne from a traditional house, this one in Spain, Agua de Lavanda opens brightly and dries down smooth and creamy, just the way I like my lavender! The composition is slightly sweet, but fully unisex. It’s definitely less sweet than Caron Pour Un Homme…
I picked this bottle up while on vacation a few years back in the south of Spain, I knew nothing about the house, but was in Sevilla and really bought this bottle and one of Agua de Naranjos more as souvenirs than anything else. I then proceeded to forget all about them until only a few months ago, when I discovered them hidden in the back of a closet.
What a nice discovery they were, complex and well-composed natural colognes made with high-quality ingredients. I took a look at the website, and, yes, they still exist, so the next time you’re in Sevilla, do take advantage of this local source of fine fragrance–which can double as a souvenir! The quality is on a par with the that of the traditional houses of France and Italy, and the prices are equally modest.
