It has nothing to do with thunderstorm or natural smell. But it’s a nice aquatic scent eith some patchouli. Moderate performance with very soft sillage/projection.

Raving reviews across the web praising its realistic rendition of clean air and washed soil.
Some people compare it to the tensed, electric moment before thunderstorm breaks.
Conversely, some others perceive aquatic, purified air following the thunderstorm’s cleansing.
I was after that 2nd effect, plus, wanted to get out of my comfort zone, so I bought it online.
    Such a disappointment.
Dirt and damp leaves from the street.
    Plane tree leaves, more exactly.
This can’t be the odor from the countryside or the forest, or even a garden.
If at least it smelled like humus, I’d be delighted but nothing quite close to it.
A year or so later, the juice mellowed but still, no complexity whatsoever.
Just straight up decomposing plane tree leaves, perhaps nearby a horse stable this time.
Some reviewers enjoy layering Thunderstorm with a green and/or citrus scent for added freshness, so I’ve followed their suggestion.
The only frag I could think of was Chanson d’Eau by Coty, because its strong basil would get on well with the dirt notes from Thunderstorm.
    And yes, it did!
Thunderstorm and Chanson d’Eau pair perfectly!
    Definitely leaning on masculine.
Still no humus or cleansed atmosphere.
But there’s a mossy and leafy quality to it that makes it totally wearable.
That mixture is pretty much a nice fougere, with a twist, you know, when dirtiness makes it interesting.
I actually wore that combination the whole day without wanting to scrub myself up lol
    Sillage and longevity were powerful.

I love thunderstorms. I love earthy. All I get from this is headache inducing cucumbers and chemical pollution. Had to give it away because even a little bit causes a big headache. It lasts for hours and fills a room.
I still like the concept of a thunderstorm scent. Sadly, this is not it.
    (I had the spray version).

This is far too earthy/smoky (vetiver), woody (cedar), grassy (violet leaf, perhaps), and crumpled old tree leaves (patchouli, which I like BTW) for anything reminiscent of heavy rains.
Come to think of it, though, this might just make the perfect doused out campfire scent — wood-smoke, earth, grass, and just a hint of the water used to douse out the campfire!
It’s not a bad scent, in my opinion, it’s just misnamed….

I’ve finally purchased this one so now I can give a more detailed review. In the previous one I underscored its sweetness and stated it didn’t smell like wet cement at all.
It doesn’t. Water, melon, puddles, clouds — this is what I get. This has absolutely no earthy notes, in case you were hoping for that. I’d say that the colour of this one matches the scent perfectly. It is the greyest fragrance possible. Very nice to wear, but it’s obviously not unisex — even some women might find it too sweet.
It lasted for about 2 hours on me, but it sits pretty close to the skin. Although those near you might well notice you smell of melons and rain.

I wanted a petrichor, or geosmin fragrance, and couldn’t find the Demeter dedicated version of petrichor. I think Thunderstorm almost fits the bill. I was looking for a particular scent: a hint of a spicy clove-carnation top note sailing over wet earth and ozone after a rain in a forest. I layered Thunderstorm with a tiny bit of L’air du Temps, and am close to having that experience. Not quite, though. I may add a drop of patchouli. The Thunderstorm has a beautiful dry cedar to counterbalance the wet moss, but I still want an extra earthy soil punch that I think patchouli may satisfy.
Thunderstorm notes: pine, cedar, musk, citrus (bitter lime), spearmint, peony, vetiver (soil).

What a delightful scent. I imagine it being a hot day at the grassy park when it suddenly starts to thunder clap and softly rain. On me I smell the intense ozone of rain hitting the hot concrete! Also the smell of grass, flowers and fresh rained on soil in nature. It’s awesome. The sillage is not too strong. I find the need to apply often but that’s okay it uplifts me! DEMETER is such an awesome company. Such charming scents that compliment the weather. I imagine wearing this on a rainy day snuggling and watching t.v. just chilling out to the thunder claps and soft sounds of rain. The scent transports me into a state of relaxation. I really LOVE THIS SCENT ALOT!

This should be called wet cement. Dusty wet cement that dries to a light musk

A work of art in a bottle. This is as close as one can get to the smell of rain without using a relatively newly discovered magical molecule: geosmin. According to Wikipedia and Brown University, geosmin is the molecule released upon the death of certain soil-dwelling bacteria. Human noses are extremely sensitive to geosmin; we can detect this molecule at levels of 5 parts per trillion, as detection of geosmin enables us to locate fresh pastures and water.
So far, only two fragrances I know of contain the molecule geosmin: Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombre from Etat Libre d`Orange and Bat from Zoologist. However, these two fragrances happen to be some of my favorite fragrances of all time, and both are indeed reminiscent of damp, loamy earth and torrentuous rainfall. Thunderstorm by Demeter, layered with some geosmin, would create a fragrance indistinguishable from real rain.

This one is migraine relief in a bottle. Thank you Demeter!
I detect ozone, the barest hint of cool mint, the first spatters of rain washing dust from the air, fresh earth, and stone. It’s cooling, calming, grounding and strengthening. I don’t know that I’ll wear this as a fragrance so much as apply it medicinally. I bought the rollerball which seems wonderful for this purpose – a dab on the tip of my nose, a roll across on each temple, and a deep sigh of almost-instant relief.
I have used rollerball migraine formulae in the past from holistic health stores, but most contain lavender which I have found only makes my headaches worse. I plan to check out Demeter’s other ozonic and fresh/earthy fragrances to see if they have similar beneficial effects.

all I can say is Im disappointed after reading the rave reviews talking about rain ozone etc . Im no expert about notes and blah but Im pretty sure I know coumarin when I smell it and that is just about all I smell , was hoping for something electric and ozonic. The first 5 minutes I was quite excited , thought it may get to change from the AMEN kind of vibe . I ve been searching for the ingredients without luck . If anyone knows that would be nice. I would be super ssurprised if it didnt contain COUMARIN. AND A BIT MORE COUMARIN WITH A DASH OF COUMARIN.

Demeter’s Thunderstorm evokes a particular atmosphere, somewhere in between the damp and misty dawn of Seattle’s unnamed forest, to the emerald hills near the coast of peripheral Hong Kong.
Embedded within itself a kind of nostalgia that is piercing yet foggy. This is a chemical smell in the most natural way. Earthy and fresh, with a trace of woodiness. This is the forest edge, spontaneous ecotone zones between trees and meadows.
Imagery: agile and dynamic, she was the daughter of forest. With her sprint, unruly red hair and bow…That is to say, before industrialisation took it all away.
Serious longitivtiy issues, and Thunderstorm is playing a ” hide and seek” with me regarding sillage during its short lifespan.
6.5/10. A novel experience with somehow compromised quality.

Perfect aftermath of a big storm…water, wet earth, a very light touch of wet stone…I find this very wearable as it’s light, fresh and such a perfect spring/fall kind of scent…one of the top 10 Demeter fragrances in my book…

So I ordered a sample of Thunderstorm, in order to compare it to Demeter’s newly released ‘Petrichor’. In a way, Thunderstorm was just the wingman — the guy who introduced me to Petrichor via way of shared interest & personality.
Not being the main course, I had zero expectations for Thunderstorm. This downpour opens exceedingly Green, bordering pungent. Sharp galbanum and geranium reminds me of Raw Spirit’s Bijou Vert, along with parts of the vetiver-oakmoss dry down. It’s one of the greenest frags I’ve ever tried.
This monsoon drapes a dark rainforest.. lush, dense vegetation so thick, it obscures the gray skies above. While there’s enough earth tincture/ soil accords to justify the ‘Thunderstorm’ name, I’m not getting much in the way of aquatics. Unlike other reviewers below, there’s no melon, no calone, on my skin.
Done with the appetizer, and on to the main course! Demeter’s new Petrichor is _lovely_, so go check it out, all you precip fans.

Unique scent at a steal. Takes me back to the past standing on a rural asphalt road moments after it had been blasted by tropical thunderstorm. The hot and humid air wafted the smell of the road and the late afternoon sunshine was peeking from the dark grey clouds.Intoxicating but the smell did not last long. Fleeting.

I was really hopeful that Thunderstorm would smell very ozonic and crisp like the air during a thunderstorm. It doesn’t. It smells kind of melon-y. I hate melons.
The strong melon scent means that this is definite ‘miss’ for me. If you like the smell of melons, this could be good for you….but not for me.

I’ve recently picked up wearing this on steamy stormy days as the summer winds down, and I am taken by how dirty and sexy the dominant vetiver note is the late August heat.
When I first smelled this, I wanted it to be cool, electric and aquatic, with wind-driven rain and metallic tangs.
    It is not.
This is the air thick with humidity over rolling grass plains as the puffy white cumulus clouds (melon) grow into dark ominous cumulonimbus that bring the smell of petrichor from distant rain(vetiver/moss)on the hot wind (amber.)
It does come across as rather masculine, especially in the drydown, but that’s more due to the lack of any discernible floral notes, IMHO.

  18. :

I heard Thunderstorm was a petrichor scent, so I got one of Demeter’s splash cheapies. The last few days I’ve experienced thunderstorm after thunderstorm, so it felt appropriate to try this one out during a summer shower.
In the bottle: a very wet aquatic, slightly melon-y.
Wet on skin: Sweetwater. Still very wet, but less melon and more just slight sugar-y aquatic.
As it dries down: the earth notes pop out more and it becomes slightly more masc. I smell a LITTLE petrichor, but it’s mild, and I mainly just get wet earth mixed with aquatics.
Overall, this is a mild rain scent, with ozonic and slight earth notes mixed in. It gets more handsome as it dries down, but I think it’s a pretty solid unisex scent and the sweetwater balanced out the hints of petrichor and soil. Despite the name, Thunderstorm lacks all electricity. I wanted this to spark and pop a little more, especially with the promises of petrichor (which are very understated IMO). Don’t get me wrong: it’s a very nice blend, but I wish it packed a bit more of a punch and had a stronger sillage.

I can be nothing but blunt. It smells like bread mold.
I like the smell of petrichor. This misses the mark in a very offensive way.

Really does smell like outside right after it first starts raining. Very nice, if you like nature smells, which I do. Very loamy, I think is the correct word. However, the drydown on me is kinda weird. Like, it turns into teenage boys’ cologne smell. Very very strong, and while not totally unpleasant, it’s not something I want on me. Kinda made me a little sicky feeling and had to scrub.
This reminds me of Lush’s “The Smell of Weather Turning.” I’m thinking of layering the two to see what happens. Perhaps the mint will break up the “dude” smell and make it more palatable.
I think I’d just rather smell this and “Weather Turning” on a guy. Nice! Ra-rawr! 😉

Living in a metropolis, this fragrance makes me nostalgic for the Pacific Northwest forests I grew up around.
A strong dry lichen/ moss opening, then a sweetish, old-growth flavor like rotting cedar, with something rusty and metallic cutting through. Very realistic woods, but not what I associate with “thunderstorm”.
If I rubbed rich loamy earth over my wrists, it would have the same effect. This is not “perfumey” at all; and not very pleasant on its own, but I can imagine the delightful layering possibilities with this.

Tried it on about 2-3pm inn Boots. 7-8 hours later, mum commented that something smelt lovely on me.
Somehow my skin turns this fragrance to patchouli, leather and tobacco, with a pleasant marine ozonic note somewhere (She hates ozonics generally).
I find this smells quite sweet on me after this time. Need to find it so I can make a comment as to how it starts off now!

This is the kind of thunderstorm when you’re running for shelter through the forest in the pouring rain because you ‘ve stupidly decided to go out without a coat. It’s earthy, cloudy, dark, electric and wet : does exactly what it says on the bottle.
It’s just a terrible shame that this fragrance has such a poor longevity. You can spray ludicrous amounts of it on, it makes no difference. Within an hour, it’s gone.

  24. :

It’s the steam coming off of hot asphalt kissed by a quick summer shower. But there’s a slight sweetness in it – at first it actually reminded me of the scent of fresh cornsilk.

  25. :

    5 out of 5

This smells like wet moss. Nothing more, nothing less. I don’t find it “pretty” for wearing. I’d actually go out and say it smells bad in a very natural way. It doesn’t smell like a perfume at all. If you want to smell like wet, dirty moss, this is your guy.

WOW, great job in this one, Demeter!!! The scent is spot-on to the name.
First of all, anyone trying any Demeter fragrance, you’re gona get a blast of alcohol, then the scent will set in seconds later. This has happened with all Demeter’s I’ve tried, and I’ve tried 5 to date.
This scent, it literally smells like you were taking a hike on a gravely dirt trail, and the rains came. That’s it, end of review 🙂
9/10 for me, it reeeeaally emulates the name but it’s not a perfect 10 for me, the way that Demeter Pineapple is. Still, very cool scent, fun.

  27. :

Dirt and grass, muted with rainwater. For me, it’s that simple.
(Not plain old wet earth, mind you, but earth that’s been momentarily overpowered by the scent of the rain. The dirt and grass smells meld together and soften in a way that only seems to happen after a really good downpour. Think of it like this: apples and cinnamon sitting side-by-side smell really nice, but you’d never mistake that scent for the aroma of a hot apple pie. The result is greater than the sum of the parts.)
Note: sillage and longevity strike me as probably double that of other Demeter fragrances. I have to use Thunderstorm more sparingly or risk a headache.

  28. :

    4 out of 5

When I first applied Thunderstorm I was a bit disappointed. It had a very pungent unpleasant earthy wet kind of smell to it. Maybe that’s what a thunderstorm smells like, but I just couldn’t wrap my nose around it. I came back to it 10 minutes later….what a difference. Gone was that almost wet pungent cemetery like smell, and it was replaced by the smell of rain water that comes down from the roof and into the water spout. What I find also kind of trippy is that there is a certain cool brightness to this cologne….kind of like the little break of sunshine that pops through the clouds after the storm has passed. Very very clever.

  29. :

    4 out of 5

Wet dirt + grass + concrete. Not my idea of a thunderstorm – the ozone freshness, petrichor. Dies quickly too, after 30mins it’s gone.

  30. :

    4 out of 5

This smells exactly like Walking In The Air by CB I Hate Perfume. Or, the other way around, since I think this one came first. Christopher Brosius is one of the founders of Demeter, so that’s not really surprising.
It’s a petrichor scent. Not so much thunderstorm as the aftermath of it. Damp pavements with the sun just beginning to creep out again and beat down on them.
It’s earthy in a very literal way. I think there is actual dirt in this. It’s also ozonic. There’s an airy quality to this that makes me think of city air after a storm. I feel like there’s a hint of mint here too, very subtly in the background.
Like others have said, I’m not sure how wearable I find this and prefer it as a room spray or on my pillows to on my skin.
Longevity is pretty poor, as is usual for this house, but it’s so cheap that it doesn’t really matter. Sillage is moderate.

  31. :

    4 out of 5

Holy wow! Thunderstorm smells like wet trees – bark and foliage – as well as wet dirt. Demeter fully recreated the scent of a rainstorm in a forest with this one, the scent of a primordial rain. I think of Thunderstorm as recreating the Garden of Eden on the cusp. Pure, innocent, green, and clean. Not a flower or fruit tree in bloom.
Then the garden grew heavy with overripe flowers and fruit, and the serpent appeared.
(Hisssss. OH! Cacharel Eden, there you are, my good ole frenemy. You tempt me always despite your air of decay. Sigh. The beginning of the end.)
Thunderstorm has definite melon and patch notes to me, recreating a wet, earthy garden, minus the rotting floral notes which are the source of my constant conflict with Eden. Thunderstorm is simpler and easier to love. Not a drop of sin in the air.

This is a smell that immediately triggers individual memories & associations. To me it’s a very appealing natural scent. Living in the city, I often long for the countryside. “Thunderstorm” gives me rain, thunder & the northern wilderness. It’s just after the rain, when the sun hits again. Its ozonic, green & earthy, with a slightly metallic tone that makes you think of lightning for some reason. It also makes me think of ghost stories.
The longevity is what you expect from a not so pricey eau de cologne – only about 2-3 hours, although it does surprise me & pops up a lot longer than that. Silage is moderate. This is truly a perfume you use for yourself, because it takes you places in your mind – like a private little world.
When I want this to be even greener I combine it with Demeters “4 leaf clover”, which go perfectly together.
If you can’t find this scent is any way nostalgic, appealing nor connected to any personal memories I can just conclude that you probably live in a too sunny non rainy a country. Sorry. 😀

  33. :

    4 out of 5

Melon, earth and ozonic. The wet earth might be offputting for some, and could wear really harsh with the wrong chemistry. I like it, but agree it might be more of a thing to purchase as a room spray rather than to wear on me.
An experiment for the future would be to see how well this pairs with Lush’s The Smell of Weather Turning..

  34. :

    3 out of 5

Demeter Thunderstorm isn’t what I usually go for in a perfume, since there is nothing sweet, spicy, or resinous to it, but the smell is so interesting that I kept trying it and eventually had to buy a bottle. There is this very dry mineral note that I can’t find the exact word to describe– it is earthy, but in a sharp way, and is more like rain on clean stone than on dirt.
After a while it mellows out a bit and there is this green smell, kind of fresh and mossy with no brightness and no sweetness at all. If it was a color it would be a shade between hunter green and olive green that has been tinted so dark it is almost black and then made transparent, like bottle glass. Sorry if that makes no sense.

  35. :

    3 out of 5

Smells exactly like a scene after a thunderstorm, more accurately a bog. If you want to smell like a muddy bog then this is the fragrance for you. It’s accurate and well made, but I don’t get it. I have no idea where or when I’d wear it. Don’t know what else to say really on this one.

  36. :

    4 out of 5

This is my fave of the Demeter scents I’ve tried so far, there’s a few I still haven’t. anyway it smells wild, free and dangerous – very green, woody, earthy and swear I can smell cold air and lightning – there’s some electric note to it.
This suits my mood right now and need to escape christmas ;(
BUT it does not last very long – 2hrs max, and in half that time it changes from storm to puddle – watery and blue – still the opening notes will do as pick-me-up to carry round and spritz when I’m stressed

  37. :

I’m only just trying Demeter now! Yes unbelievably I’ve never tried them before and I figured (while starring at a bewildering WALL of testers) Thunderstorm would be a good place to start.
The opening has a real wow factor, there’s some seriously accurate, sensory, trickery going on here. It smells very much like the damp vegetation aftermath, carried though the still statically charged air of a thunderstorm.
This is a brilliant realization of an olfactory concept. I can’t see myself praising many of these because they’re not really ‘fragrances’ as much as one note ponies. Thunderstorm however actually feels like a composition, some lightly metallic and mineral elements, water, a breezy hint of aldehyde, grasses, the earthy wet soil of smell patchouli maybe some vetiver. The balance and the dimensions are perfect to create a ‘carried on the air’ sort of feel. As it settled on my skin it did become more of a dirty patchouli and I feared that the opening was too short but then keep reverting back to the wonder of the beginning.
This is an interesting scent and not my usual cup of tea but I found it to be a wonderful experience.
Lasting power was better than most of these but that ain’t saying much.

  38. :

Convincingly accurate to the name on the bottle of wet earth after a sudden downpour on soil that has remained dry for a long period.
More wearable for me than Dirt with softer warm tones that feel comforting.
Glad to see so many people find it interestingly likeable and agree that for some it may not be a fragrance they would easily wear, who would prefer it as a room or fabric spray.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

If they made VapoRub in spray form, this is what it would smell like. A whiff of this at first spray brings me right back to my childhood when my mother would heat up some VapoRub and slather it all over me whenever I was sick (many Hispanics can probable relate to this).
After about 30 minutes of VapoRub scent, it weakens considerably, and smells more like a fresh dampness, very reminiscent of a brand new puddle of rain. The scent remains a skin-scent this way until it completely diminishes a couple of hours later.
In conclusion, this is an interesting scent to have smelled, but not one that I would wear, or even one that I would want to use to freshen up a room. But I guess if you want to smell like a sick Hispanic kid, then this scent is made for you.

Excellent! I tried it and “Rain” at Boots in UK. Thunderstorm smells stronger than rain but similar initially although rain went “off” but thunderstorm persisted as thunderstorm. Lasted about 3 hours. Very different perfume house, this.
I will avoid their peanut butter or pizza Edts but probably order 10 or so of the 15ml bottles of parsley, coriander, pepper fragrances and then mix them a bit.
Demeter is a “nose’s” paradise as we can mess about with a myriad of diverse smells without losing a fortune doing so.

when you put some water on dry earth, smells really nice, like thunderstorm. Very natural, like bein’ resting on wet grass. It’s a whole experience, make you reminds rain, thunders, summer, rainy nights. Wet air.

A very interesting and very very realistic capture of what a summer thunderstorm smells like in the middle of a big city. I love the hot wet asphalt that I get from it. It also feels like biting into a cold watermelon rind, a very summery scent to me. Beautiful!
I don’t think I can wear it by itself though, and would love to experiment with layering it with other perfumes. That hot asphalt note mixed with wet dirt is incredible!

As a teenage girl, whenever someone bought me something scented, it was cloying and sticky-sweet… so, so, so not for me. My boyfriend at the time, however, endeared himself to me even more by buying me this scent instead.
It’s not sweet at all, it’s fresh but a little dirty and on me at least, there’s a lot of ozone. It does smell a lot like wet pavement. I’ve found that it lasts a pretty long time, but I don’t like a very strong smell. And I’ve never mixed it with another perfume, but I discovered that if I also have suntan lotion on, I get a smell exactly like the beach.

  44. :

    4 out of 5

The initial blast of Thunderstorm is a strong ozone scent. Though it has a shadow of the smell before a thunderstorm, it’s actually too strong to be realistic at the beginning. The scent then gradually mellows into a mixture of green grass with drops and dirts, muds dipping in water, as if the rain has already finished. This aroma of after-rain slowly fades away during about the 5-hour wear. Althought it’s not a conventional perfume, I find it pretty wearable and refreshing for a hot summer day. A very interesting olfactory experience to try.

  45. :

    5 out of 5

To me, this is a strong blast of cucumber and vetiver, which recreates the smell of wet, hot asphalt. I also get a feeling of wet dirt. It’s a lot stronger than I would have expected, since I was expecting a very light, second-skin sort of fragrance.
I have a bottle of vetiver oil that smells a lot like this, and I typically combine the vetiver oil with fruity fragrances such as Paris Hilton for Men. It gives fruity fragrances a depth that they lack.
With that being said, I wouldn’t want to combine this with something else because it’s so strong. It lasts several hours on me, and it’s best suited for humid, hot days. Of course, as the name would indicate.
Even if you don’t like it on your skin, it makes an excellent room spray if you’re wanting a fresh, clean aroma.
This is very green, spicy, hot, and pungent…but in a very good way. This is most definitely a very faithful recreation of the environment of an ozonic thunder-struck day.

  46. :

    4 out of 5

Thunderstorm is very different. I cannot wear it on its own, I usually mix it with Demeter’s Honey or even Red Poppies (something more sweet). May sound strange to mix it but if something is too “sweet” this fragrance tones it down. Thunderstorm is a more bitter scent, I smell a lot of asphalt and damp earth. I agree it definitely has a chemical feel, like other reviewers say that “ozone” smell. I was expecting this to have a little more sweetness to it (like that sweet-earthy smell). There is that the earthy, day-after-the-rain fragrance but I was hoping for something not as bitter and chemical-like. Unfortunately it doesn’t work for me unless, like I said, I layer it with something sweet. As EnglishCountryGarden says below “not so much a perfume as an olfactory experience,” so true!

  47. :

To me, this fragrance *is* the smell in the air the moment that the first raindrops start to hit hot pavement during a summertime thunderstorm. Not a fragrance I wear, but a very strong scent memory experience for me.

  48. :

It smells of moldy cucumber, wet dirt, and wet leaves to me. I wanted to love this, but I can’t stand the overpowering cucumber note – without it I think it would feel so much stormier. I use it as a room spray now, mainly. On my skin it turns purely into wet dirt – which I don’t mind. When my sister wears it, on the other hand, it smells just like the rain – she’s had multiple people comment on it.

I’m not really a fan. It smells like wet potting soil more than anything else.

I was just complaining to mother that we don’t get nearly as many thunderstorms in these parts anymore. To my delight the brilliant & talented ppl at demeter have captured it in a bottle & now I can experience it no matter the weather.

Some people don’t, but I find Thunderstorm totally wearable. I never got to layer it over a “real” scent, but rather have worn it pure. Sure, it’s not the usual perfume, but it works and is unusual enough to set you apart, without offending other people’s noses. Actually, it’s pleasant and I’d keep sniffing all day long.
It makes little sense to speak of notes here, but anyway. It’s the smell of rain on wet soil. Those first rains after a dry season, a smell I’m very used to, living in the Brazilian Cerrado ecosystem. To make it more vivid, it smells like the kind of dumpy earth or root flour we use to grow ferns. Think earthy, mineral. Absolutely delicious. It really feels like the weather is cooling.
So, maybe some of you are in the quest for the perfect rain scent. At first I thought that Demeter’s Dirt would have this smell, and blind bought it. And got disappointed. Dirt is more of a very red, iron rich soil, with sweet undertones, not really wet, but drying, soil. If you want that refreshing rain, if you want that recently soaked soil with its mineral contents coming up, go for Thunderstorm.

Not so much a perfume as an olfactory experience. I love to drop a little of this into my bath water with a smidge of something transparent from the Jean Claude Ellena stable. Earthworm and Dirt are also lovely bath additions, if you really dig that “rolling around in a wet meadow” or “digging up the potatoes” vibe … which I do. Thankfully. It’s raw, it’s earthy, it’s crackly, stony, leaf mouldy, lump of unyeilding sticky wet clay. Basic instinct stuff – there are animals and plants which wake up to reproduce when they are stimulated to do so by the release of petrichor, it turns them on. I must be one of them. Love this product and it’s earthy, dirty, wormy frags from the Demeter range.

I was disappointed with this Demeter Fragrance as it was unfortunatly not what I was looking for, I agree that it smells of dirt and wet soil and that didn’t please me. Like the reviewer below the reason i bought Thunderstom was because i too love the smell just before a storm in summer and i thought that was what I would get. I agree however that it does smell of just after a storm wet and earthy. If that’s your thing you’ll love it but this one was just not for me.

I find a common trend with me and Demeter Fragrances. First sniff they repulse me and then i give them another go and i grow to like them and in some cases love them. Thunderstom i have grown to love. First i got dirt, wet soil and that didn’t please me, but give it a chance and it becomes something quite beautiful. The reason i bought Thunderstom was because i love the smell just before a storm in summer and i thought that was what i would get. I didn’t get that i got just after a storm. That wet, earthy smell that fills your nostrils when your walking home in the rain. Imagine walking through a woods just after a downpour. The wet leaves, plants and soil. Thunderstom is that exactly bottled….. Amazing.

Oh,yes, wet London! Makes me want to visit again: Greenish, wet, dirty pavement. Evocative but maybe not a perfume.

I agree with other reviews here about this depicting the smell AFTER a thunderstorm more so than the smell BEFORE it. I, for one, was hoping for the latter, but I do still enjoy this on very hot days.
At first spray, I do smell a tiny suggestion of ozone, like how the air smells right before a storm. But that’s quickly shadowed by the scent of rainwater and wet, earthy leaves. My partner said all he smelled was mold. I ten
