Best bang for my buck thus far this year!
It puts me in mind of Halston’s Catalyst, only without the musk. (Catalyst for Men has long been one of my very favorite cheapies, but its price is now going up somewhat online now that it’s been discontinued.)
It’s also reminiscent of Paul Sebastian for Men, another oft maligned and frequently overlooked spicy masterpiece on a budget.
The rich clove and other spices of Superman? Warm, comforting, and VERY long lasting.
Dumbest fragrance name EVER? Yes, I think so.
But for six or seven bucks a bottle? And massive sillage? And insane longevity? Sign me up.
    Five stars — hands down.

Sometimes you smell something in a crowd and the smell just sticks in your mind. You chase it and try to find it one day. The smell of this was fragrances was one of them I was chasing for a very long time.
On 09/02/18 found this at a local grocery store when I went to buy some bakhnoor.. saw the shopkeeper had many al-rehab roll-on cases.. there was no line so kept sniffing most of what he had.. sniffed this one and just got it. Then on 09/08/18 wanted to test it so took shower applied this and wallah!! I was in total excitement. Found one of the fragrances I was chasing for a long time. Don’t know whether it was the same brand or what since al-rehab usually clones stuff. But I’m happy.
    CLOVES GALORE!
I have the roll-on version. Best for fall winter cozy born fire situataion i think..maybe for spring or summer.. will try next year.. wouldnt try this for office wear.
100% buy with full confidence and enjoy.

Ok, so it’s supposed to be for men? Silly name. I bought it on the basis of reviews and see that some women wear it! So I’ve had a go. Male, female, who cares.
Yes, it’s cloves galore in the opening. But, it settled for me, into a rather powdery but vintage fragrance. Not dissimilar to a vintage Miss Dior as it fades. And I rather like that.
Worth a try if you like spices – especially cloves. Wait for the dry down, as it has some sophistication.

It’s a lovely fragrance! I discovered this yesterday! A beautiful Nubian woman was wearing this and we had a great chat, then as we hugged goodbye… the warmth the comfort, the sweet spices… I had to ask ” mmm.. what fragrance are you wearing!?”
She said superman , ebay! lol I was totally intrigued!
I had to absolutely purchase it, as a rollerball.. can’t edit til it arrives it smells great , funny name though, it’s in spray form and I may consider adding that version to my collection one day.
    A simple but lovely blend.

    Exclusive Kretek
Opens up to a zesty lemon enveloped in a light, sweet sandal wood with a playful ginger twist.
It settles quietly to this magical fume made of the finest Indonesian spices: cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. This rich aroma lingers around as the most refined kretek cigars, exuding sophistication. A touch of dark chocolate, vanilla and myrrh to warm up your heart and make you dream of faraway lands.
    Sexy.
This is the modern, androgynous vampire who has traveled the world and lives eternally in the moment. Unmistakable sensuous, nostalgic, bold.
Unfortunate packaging and puerile name. It’s not a powerhouse, but such an exquisite composition!

I had to try it several times before liking it. so strong, it smell goodbut like a tchai and gingerbread blend! not something to wear outside…
and with time it become softer (with the same scent), and quite nice, like a soft spicey tea, this time wearable if you love yummy scent (as choco musk, golden sand, vanilla…)
I layer it with other ad it’s almost “amazing”

This is nice fragrance due the clove smell. I have a roll-on. The clove make you feel warmth. So this is suitable for cold season, even though still nice smell in hot season. But do not roll-on to much on your body because this is strong smell.

I’m really undecided on whether or not I’ll be wearing this very often. You MUST have patience with Superman because there is a very long dry down period.
Fresh out of the bottle, Superman is unbearable as a body fragrance. Home fragrance, sure. But I felt sick the first time I put it on.
    BE PATIENT.
With about an hour, Superman mellows out quite a lot. Picture this: you’re in a log cabin, the fire crackling, and measuring out ground ginger for spice cookies. I get almost no clove out of Superman- it’s really all ground dry ginger and aged woods. A little black pepper and musk.
Definitely on the masculine side of things, but the addition of something with vanilla pushes this towards unisex. Layer with Philosophy Fresh Cream for a striking similarity to Margiela’s By the Fire.

100% masculine and I like it a lot. The name Superman fits this fragrance perfectly because it reminds me of a late 70’s style aftershave with its heavy clove and other spices common in the era. Don’t fall for comments about this being unisex because if you’re a lady that prefers to smell feminine — stay clear away from Superman. This ain’t no Superwoman hear me roar kinda cologne. This is a man’s fragrance IMO and in the opinion of my wife and several ladies I asked to smell this on me. It’s very close to the uber-masculine 80’s cologne Paul Sebastian Fine but with more clove. It’s also kind of like Old Spice on steroids if some bay rum notes were added.
Unfortunately my wife and a female friend both said it reminded them of their dad, so it might be dated to some people. Actually it does remind me too of a cologne my dad wore in the 80’s when I was in middle school. Maybe it was Paul Sebastian he wore back then.
Suoerman is perfect for the autumn season because it’s heavy on clove and very spicy. I can’t see this working in warmer weather. But that’s just me. The sillage and longevity is excellent. I have the oil and liked it so much I also bought the spray and they are bascially the same scent, with the oil being a little more beast-mode. If you’re a guy that enjoys classic masculine fragrances, you gotta give Superman a try.

A “chai spice” fragrance. The sandalwood and musk make it creamy. The pepper, spices, woods, and roots add warmth and depth.
Adds spice to florals and darkness to gourmands when combined.
It was too “screechy” at first because I was probably using too much. With careful application, it’s become one of my favorite Al-Rehabs.

  13. :

Thunder cracks then booms. You are huddled, shivering in an abandoned weatherboard shack. Your wet leather coat on a pegs behind you, a tin cup and shaving soap gathering dust on a table before for you. You’ll wait out the storm here…
There’s an old, otherworldly feeling to this scent. A soapy vetiver backs it, a little reminiscent of Guerlain Vetiver. For Australians, it smells quite like Palmolive Gold. Overlaying that, intense, woody cloves, emphasis on the woody aspect. Sniffing from the bottle, I got a suggestion of the musk that is ij the modern version of brute but it didn’t out itself on the skin. It’s not the most complex fragrance but simplicity isn’t always a bad thing. I find this an intriguingly original combination.
Stellar longevity and whoo daddy levels of sillage. Apply judiciously. I think this is unisex but I could definitely see some people categorizing this as masculine. One of the strongest Al Rehabs I’ve encountered.

    Cloves.
Not really much else going on here. Essence of cloves.
If you have a situation that calls for CLOVES!!!, then this is just perfect.
    edit –
Yes this is similar to Jacomo de jacomo. This is just so clove. Superman is best worn around the Fortress of Solitude. Cold air would suit it best. No one should buy this expecting a really wearable, everyday, all occasions scent.
It is also reminding me of Pinaud Bay Rum. The scent is similar, but that longevity is short, since it is after shave.

It may be for men, but I will be wearing this during the chilly Canadian winters. Ginger, pepper, cloves, it’s right up my alley. Spicy without the sweet, gives me Jungle Elephant vibes.

ooooosh!! On first application I immediately got “very peppery!!!” if that’s even a term in the perfume world 🙂 After a few minutes it was Spices galore! It reminded me of my dad’s Old Spice from when I was younger only more hardchore. I kept thinking “Nope, not for me” but I keep sniffing it and it changes every time! Not long after the overwhelming spices, I got full on clove. Ugh, not for me. Then ginger. I like this ginger. But now on smelling it it’s changed again, a lot! Maybe this is secretly why it’s called Superman … because it changes in a flash! 🙂 I’ve never experienced a scent that has changed so much within (checks clock) half an hour! Now I’m getting a milder warmer clove. I just don’t know if I can say if I like it just yet as I don’t know if it’s going to change some more. This is a weird one for me. I think it may just be to spicey smelling for me personally. But for anyone who likes peppery, clovey, spiciness Go ahead! You’ll probably love it! And for the pennies you pay … what a bargain!

yep! i smell cloves and a little more clove then some more clove and finally a tad of clove with ginger.
EDIT: hey! i was just teasing about the clove at first but this is a no nonsense fragrance.i mixed some sultan/superman and got something similar to aramis havana.oh hell yes! reminds me of those atomic fireball jawbreakers.i also used a tad of that smelly ass oud and i am in another world right now.thank you al rehab.

Pyramids. Not those in Egypt, but the ones that adorn Fragrantica. They are useful as they give a first impression of the juice in question but, occasionally misleading. Based on notes I would have, regrettably, missed Magic by Celine,as I would have deemed it too fruity floral without the chance to sense its smooth, achingly chic allure! When i chose Superman I was attracted to the wood/resins/spice of the composition. However, reading the all important, valuable reviews from members I realised this was a clove beast. And it is! It starts off a little camphoric perhaps due to Oud input, sparkly, spicy. The pepper is there throughout, I feel it tingling my nostrils, but soon after the initial blast, the wood, Oud, and clove take over. I tried both the spray and oil and I find oil even stronger! 12+ hours on the skin! After a very long time the sandalwood and clove become the main components! A little smoother and creamier at this stage but, very smoking. Myrrh has a slight Input in keeping the whole slightly sweet but never too or overtly. Towards the end what is left is a seductive mix of cloves, woods and resins, deep, very alluring and aromatic. Who said patience didn’t pay off??! If you love cloves, wrapped in Oriental desire do not hesitate to stock up on this beautiful juice. It won’t disappoint!

I bought this based purely on price and potency and I’m over the moon I did. If you are indifferent to cloves then you should consider avoiding this, but if you like nutmeg, black pepper and spices then please consider giving it a go, it also contains a pleasing hint of sandalwood too. This can only really be worn on cold winter days/nights so please don’t order this if you are heading into your springtime/summertime because you will not be able to wear it for quite some time. Al-Rehab seem to be able to produce quality, powerful fragrances at rock bottom prices and I for one am very pleased they do. One final point; if you like Bay Rum you will really love this. Five stars out of five. *****

Superman has the same overall feel of jacomo de jacomo vintage. High on clove and nutmeg with less patchouly and a brighter opening. Longevity is great but unfortunately this wont replace my beloved jacomo

I have resisted reviewing this fragrance for several years, despite loving it, because I’m afraid that I cannot accurately capture it. I ordered a variety of fragrances from Al Rehab on a whim because of their positive reviews and inexpensive price point. I picked up Superman because of the name, thinking that my husband might enjoy it.
One of the other reviewers mentioned that it has a “grandfather” scent to it, which might be right. It smells reminiscent of Dial soap mixed with a spicy, peppery wood. My husband immediately fell in love with it as it smells exactly like what he remembers his grandfather smelling like. That’s not to say that Superman is unpleasant, rather, it has a sort of old-fashioned confidence to it. I also think there could be some orange and possibly floral notes in the background.
The oil and the spray lasts a full 10-12 hours without budging. It is also a compliment getter for my husband, who counts it as his signature scent. Overall, it’s a hidden gem if you like a spicy, soapy scent.

I mostly smell strong cloves, myrrh and ginger mixed together.

    Well said Sir!
I have a large collection of fragrances and I agree wholeheartedly, more expensive does not always constitute being better. The majority of times functionality wins over flamboyance, my most complimented fragrances are from the £15-£30 range, a far-cry from the £130 per bottle Creeds and the like.
There is a certain vicious snobbery to perfumery in some aspects and these people really need to get over themselves.
As for the scent, Superman is one of my favorites from this house, spicy and with an old school confidence. Al-Rehab certainly diversifies their fragrances and it is great to try so many due to the reasonable (and arguably under-priced) cost.
    Great!

Western perspective. I Wanted to learn about Eastern perfumery and Real Ouds. Realized that meant oils and no sprays. It is like learning a new language. It has its own set of rules and characteristics that must only be judged from Their perspective. My fragrance menu would Not be complete without my Al-Rehab menu (and it’s well over a dozen now.) Attars complete the yin-yang of fumes for me. There is no need to pick one over the other. Heck, they don’t even get applied to the same place. Western sprays go to the chest. Eastern attars go to the wrists. Am still Much more competent writing reviews for a French perfume than a Saudi Arabian one but every perspective counts. Heavy perfumes appeal to me greatly, as do woodys. However, again, this can’t be over-stated, these aren’t the same kind of heavy or fragrant woodys. Which brings me to my latest buy, Superman!
First, how cool is it to buy an Attar called Superman?! That is like a step toward world peace. Apparently, I love myrrh. Knew spicy is a love as well as balsams. In short, am learning how to wear my oils from another land and overcoming the ‘fear’ of them because of my intense love of and desire to have them on my active fragrance menus. Superman has a place on my table any time. My Real Oud oils sit right beside my French and American bottles. Indeed, world peace smells divine.

This reminded me of old spice. As soon as I put it on I felt that familiar confidence. It makes me stand straight, push my chest out, hold my head high, and say ” Yes, that smell is me. I am a man.I am clean. Deal with it.” I like this scent.

One of my favorites from Al-Rehab! I love the spicy cloves, ginger, nutmeg, myrrh. This has incredible longevity and just gets sweeter and woodier with time on my skin.

Warning! Those supermen and superwomen who dislike cloves can forget about this baby. Its definitely clove and nutmeg based (ignore the notes you see). I personally like cloves and it reminds me a lot of Lutens Vitriol d’œillet and , easily can be layered with yellow florals, its very dense and sharp oriental-big-time-spicy. Enjoy the kick)

Good review! As many other reviews you’ve written, this one also is crisp, powerful and very entertaining aswellas informative .
    Keep them coming!
Fragrantica becomes all the more interesting!
I agree this perfume is not just all clove, there’s more to it.
And like many other Fragrantica members mentioned, Oils are a little different from EDP s, and slightly more longevity.
Though company ‘s name is bit funny!

I have quite come collection of Al Rehab and also Al Haramain. I do tend to have scents which are oriental, dark, sweet, spicy, and also a bit citrusy. Anyway, I like my scents to be spiced up
From the first impression, I feel the ginger and pepper. I ordered this one without paying attention to the notes tbh (I lol’d at the name of it) and when I opened it I instantly felt the pepper and also the ginger. It’s interesting, it’s spicy, it has a good longevity and also projection. It also has a bit of sweetness to it but it’s really not that sweet.
I always like pepper in my perfumes but I never had a scent with a prominent pepper note and kudos to that Al Rehab.
I have the oil, not the EDP, which I think it’s better. All my Middle East scents are oils and that’s how it will be from now on as well.
So if you want a scent in which you can feel the pepper the ginger and also a scent that has a little bit of sweetness, go for this one.
I will always keep this one in my collection, because it’s interesting.

Superman is spycy and soapy, it’s like a cheap shower gel.Longevity and sillage are very very good. I love al-rehab fragrances but superman is a no-go for me. It has a old-vibe , maybe it’s more suitable for old people ! I’m sorry, i don’t like it at all.!! 🙁

    5 out of 5

I cannot comment on it’s longevity or sillage as my wife made me wash it off after 5 minutes. Strong like most attar perfumes (I only applied one dab to my wrist). The sweetness of the myrhh becomes cloying and nauseating quickly. Has a dated “grandfather” type vibe going on to my nose. A little more woods or musk to balance the sweetness would be good with this one. Layering it with something else might be the ticket.

  37. :

I had big hopes for this one based on the reviews. Unfortunately the clove smell that I longed for lasted only 15 minutes or so on my skin before changing into a stale, mothball scent, as mentioned by another reviewer below. Smelled nice in the bottle but not with my chemistry. Nevertheless, I still love Al-Rehab oils and will stick with Choco-musk and Blanc for now until I find a few more that I love.

A very spicy fragrance. I have the oil and it lasted for 12hrs plus.
I think a must have for winter as it is very masculine and perfect without being a sickly sweet sillage monster as in today’s modern offerings.
very similar to jacomo de jacomo original without the refinement of smokiness. doesn’t change much after the first hour.
As a result of buying the oil I am going to buy the spray as you have to let the oil dry or it is liable to stain. My rating overall for a good masculine daytime winter fragrance, perhaps for over 40’s. is 8 out of 10!!.
Could imagine wearing this in front of a crackling log fire on a winter’s night drinking a glass of mulled wine…

For me, Superman is another winner from Al-Rehab. Yes, the top notes are cloves, but the dry down is woody, spicy, and soapy. At this price point, you can’t go wrong.

  42. :

A spice and wood mix on me, but not as sharp or bright as that sounds. It’s very mellow and smooth and of course stays close to the skin as oils will. Very nice for the price and worth seeking out if you like clove/wood notes in perfume. Definitely unisex

I have had this oil for quite some time but it has been hidden away and forgotten. I purchased it in a lot of several others, which I thought I preferred over this one. Today I stumbled across it and thought…why not? Oh my goodness! It’s lovely! The first twenty minutes are a bit sharp and..frankly..reminded me a bit of OFF bug spray but once it settles, it becomes warm, spicy, woody, slightly floral, and a tad salty, incensy….POOF of goodness! I’ve mentioned this in other AL-Rehab reviews but they just last and last and last. They get even better as time goes on. Usually I find that when I apply perfumes ( non oil) the best part is the first half hour and then they are pretty much done. Al-Rehab oils work like a wonder on my skin…they bloom on my skin and just keep blooming on and on as they day goes by. I LOVE them. And what’s more…they are SO affordable. I buy mine from Al-Rashad Bookstore on line….out of Ohio.Best service ever. The name of this one is pretty silly and it’s marketed as a men’s scent but if you can get past those two things and fork over about three bucks you can smell this lovely too!

As I live in Dubai, UAE, I have had more of a chance than most to see the Al Rehab fragrances in their local cultural setting. I am altogether aware that the vast majority of people who buy Al Rehab perfumes in the West will have had them supplied from online retailers, but I would like to share with you something about purchasing these fragrances here before I give my short review.
For a start, buying an Al Rehab fragrance in Dubai will mean in all likelihood that you will need to visit the Perfume Souk area in the city near to the famous Gold Souk of Dubai. This is because Al Rehab is not stocked in any of the major or minor retail outlets and – unlike Rasasi, Arabian Oud, Swiss Arabian or the other local brands – does not have an outlet based in a mall. This also means that you will have to take a route through one of the older parts of the city, by the side of the Creek, along past the shops selling all sorts of knick-knacks, past the Asian cyclists carrying stacks of cardboard on the backs of bikes, past the East Africans trading with Afghans, past the shwarma and juice stalls, until you come to the Perfume Souk area. Here you find the Al Rehab shop at the end of a busy, crowded, furiously neon-lit street….
Now when you enter this shop, you will truly wonder how it is that some of these fragrances are so well recognised as being very credible dupes of some of the fragrances from the most admired houses internationally. Creed? Montale?…..Surely not. The Al Rehab shop is staffed by some very friendly elderly local Arab gentlemen. Very nice, and a Salaam Aleikum and a few words of Arabic goes a long way. But yet, the shop. My, my, my….More like a hardware store than a fragrance shop, it is not unusual for your total to be worked out on the back of an envelope and change to be plucked out of wooden drawer. Last time I went there I wondered if I could pick up a hammer and a box of masonry nails while I was at it!…Suffice to say that this is nothing like the image of sparkling, shiny Dubai portrayed around the world. Yet, there is charm in this as well – and most definitely value for money if this is a consideration at all. (As an aside, buying these 6 ml CPO vials costs me 4 UAE dirhams each, about $1.10, ie they are practically giving the stuff away.) So what are their fragrances actually like…..
Superman is clearly masculine in its intention but does allow some scope for unisex wearings. The note composition stated here may not be entirely correct as it smells heavily of clove at the beginning – so much so that it reminds me of the clove oil used for dental pain relief. Definitely from the vial it smells like this and in the early stages on the skin. From there the clove calms down but never quite disappears. About a half an hour in it becomes more resinous and myrrh becomes more evident. I like myrrh a lot but here it seems buried beneath other strong components, mostly musk and ginger. To me it is not nearly as smoky as Jacomo de Jacomo but I understand the associations.
All said, Superman is definitely an interesting fragrance that is worth a try if you want something different and not at all commonplace. You won’t be much out of pocket, you may really like it and you may just get a kick out of wearing a fragrance with such a modest title….

I absolutely love this. It’s dualistic on me. The unisex notes of clove and what smells like light patchouli compliment each other, that’s what I smell on my skin. But if I catch a whiff of it throughout the day, it smells like there is a gorgeous clean, and well scented, man around. It’s rather alluring! A little more Clark Kent than Superman, but I’m not complaining. Also this was nice as a bedtime scent.
I tried this on a man, but it wasn’t half as good on him. Dried down to a drab moth ball like scent. This would be downright succulent on a man with the chemistry to suit it.

  48. :

Al-rehab fragrances, at least the six or seven I’ve tried so far, tend to blast from the bottle (or in this case, roll-on stick). Superman maybe more so than others.
Clove is definitely the dominant theme here, along with a layering of spices that produce a smokey effect, not unlike that of the original Jacomo de Jacomo, or Open by Roger & Gallet. As it dries down it actually projects even more, as do other Al-rehabs like Al Fares or Khaliji, and in this instance, Superman wafts a trail reminiscent of gold-bar Dial soap.
A deep, clean smelling scent no doubt, but you’d better like clove! Then again, at the ridiculously low price it goes for and how little it takes to massively project, you won’t be out much if it’s not to your liking.

    Review of the roll-on oil.
Initially it has notes reminiscent of Imperial Leather soap for me along with some almost floral woodiness that then develops a fresh but warm, slightly spiced feel.
It stays soapy throughout and sometimes smells almost piney. Verges on medicinal at times. Develops some depth and gentle smokiness but is always pretty sweet. Like a toned-down soapy 70s/80s masculine fragrance. It ends up gently masculine with some feminine leanings.
Pleasant but nothing special and a little sweet for my tastes. Can easily see this being unisex – it has a feminine and sweet quality to it despite the terrible “Superman” moniker.
Less powerful than the other Al Rehabs I have but it still gives around 9 hours of good projection and lasts on skin for 11 or 12 hours.
An OK masculine/unisex fragrance but its not for me.

Yes, I have become an Al Rehab junkie too!. First by chance got hold of this company on Amazon and went crazy buying almost all their scents because of the reasonable prices. Superman I initially bought for myself. Then I told my husband to try it and that was when the bomb dropped! It smelled so good on him! I would smell it on him after he put in a long day at work til evening the next day. It stays on the skin until you washed it off, even then there was a hint. It is Superman! Woody, musky confident scent!

The improbably-named Superman is among my favorite al-Rehab fragrance oils. It is, obviously, marketed for men, but in my opinion it can be as unisex as some of the niche offerings. It is well within the Western-fragrance category, beginning with a very pleasant spiciness that I think is nutmeg, and calming down into a wonderful woody scent, like certain types of burning wood or the walls of an outdoor kitchen where wood is the fuel. I can detect the slightest bit of (synthetic) oud but it is not intrusive, unlike other oud fragrances from al-Rehab. If you are a woman and enjoy slightly masculine fragrances, or want to experiment, this is a good one for starters … only problem is, it probably is too Western for attar connoisseurs.
