Description

Givenchy presents L’Ange Noir, the new “black angel” fragrance that follows the line of Ange ou Demon from 2006 and Ange Ou Demon Le Secret from 2009. L’Ange Noir comes out in fall 2016, representing irresistible mystery and the ultimate paradox: “Radiant as an angel, elusive as the darkness.” L’Ange Noir, inspired by the style of crime cinema that is film noir, is the seductive potion of a femme fatale, described as elegant, unique, audacious and desirable.

“Each woman is an enigma, playing with her power of seduction. The evidence? … her fragrance. Between shadow and light, a unique trail that fascinates by the contrasting encounter of white iris and black sesame encapsulated in a precious glittered bottle… L’Ange Noir, or the spellbinding story of a fragrance with a soul apart. Darkness and light…”

The composition is a powdery floriental combination of light and dark notes. It opens with a blend of bergamot, pink pepper and fresh almond. The mild powdery character of pure white iris, one of the noblest of flowers, is mixed with slightly salty black sesame in the heart. The base finishes up with warm tones of tonka bean, ambrette seeds and amber.

The face of the campaign is French actress and model Aymeline Valade. The shape of the bottle is identical to the Ange ou Demon Le Parfum edition from 2015. It is covered with black sparkled lacquer. The fragrance is available as a 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Parfum.

I found this in my search for lipstick/cosmetic scents. It came highly recommended from a number of people who seem, from a glance at their perfume wardrobes, to be connoisseurs of this genre.
My very first impression is that, under the guise of a blind smell-test, if someone told me this was an Annick Menardo creation, I would have said, “That makes sense!”
It is not by her, BUT I am getting shades of the deep-yet-happy cherry note in Lolita Lempicka, the rubbery edge of Bvlgari Black, and the sort of handsome-gourmand sweet/hairy effect that Hypnotic Poison flirts with.
Right on top of L’Ange Noir is also a soapiness that conjures wax beads and so-called “unscented” lotion. I understand the comparison below to vanilla candles, now.
I hesitate a bit to make this next comparison, lest I sound creepy or like I am making broad, ignorant brushstrokes in talking about ethnically-specific human characteristics, BUT, having had a few boyfriends and friends of East Asian descent, I can say with some first-hand experience that there is a certain natural hair/skin oil scent particular to people of this heritage that a) differs vastly from people of Western European descent, and, b) smells sort of inherently waxy/soapy. Mix that natural body smell with the faintest whiff of any shampoo or other ancillary bath product and it smells…a lot like this perfume does in the first fifteen minutes. Amazing! Intriguing! Dare I say, a little weird.
Drying down, it is now in a nutty/creamy/sweet (but not edible) lipstick phase. I am getting soft puffs of cherry-almond from the fabric of my sleeve next to where I’m wearing this on my wrist. A tame, powdery, user-friendly iris is coming through as well. The oily, unctuous undertone of the sesame comes through occasionally, and comes just short of making my gag-reflex turn over.
Just like when I blind-bought Ellen Tracy Bronze for its alleged cosmetic-smelling properties, for the first hour I was like, “WTF kiddie lipstick is this?” Now, I crave it. I imagine this is what will happen with L’Ange Noir, independent of the fact that it bears no real note-to-note resemblance to Bronze, only a wispy and similar “makeup feeling.”
L’Ange Noir is quite strange, but I like it. The savoriness is really throwing me for a loop, though.

I feel like my exploration of lipstick/cosmetic powder/sweet/iris fragrances is officially over. I’ve found the QWEEEEEEN, lol! Yeah, basically all my old favs can suck it. 1889 Moulin Rouge (I mean, I’ll love her forever but she’s been knocked off the pedestal for good), Lipstick On, Iris Rebelle, etc., etc.
I also feel like this is pretty versatile, you could wear this out at night – the “noir” aspect is there. But you could also pull this off for daytime; it works for a a retro, sexy secretary type of vibe. It’s not too heavy for a cool summer night and not too light for a cold winter day. Yeah, it’s a really great scent.
It does both versions of iris – a bit of the really rubbery/waxy thing in the opening and then dries a bit more dusty. There is a healthy dose of sweet vanilla/tonka and along with the almond/sesame notes it makes for a really sweet powdery vintage inspired cosmetic type smell. I don’t get any culinary vibes – I was a little worried about that with it including sesame/almond/pepper – but at least on my skin it’s sweet/floral/powdery but never gourmand.
This perfume makes me want to explore this house – I have never given Givenchy the time of day.

I don’t know where people are getting a food smell or their stomachs turning from sesame seed. I Blind bought this perfume and it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! If you love lipstick smells most likely you’ll love this. It smells very similar to lipstick on except this has somewhat of a candle vanilla candle scent to it in the opening as it dries down the candle smell dissipates and it becomes more like a dry waxy lipstick. I smell Amberette and a nice sweet spice. Like the way homes smell around the holidays when they’re baking sugar cookies and burning candles. I do find this to be darker and mysterious. It’s very beautiful very sexy. Longevity is great on me I sprayed it on at 8 a.m. and it’s after 1 p.m. now and I can still get wafts of it. I did spray some in my hair and on my clothing. It’s very beautiful on clothes as well as on skin. It is by far one of my favorite lipstick scents. I have lipstick on and lipstick rose and I had no idea what to expect from this perfume and I’m in love with this sweet , spicy, sexy , waxy , creamy lipstick perfume!

I have to say this one’s drydown is IDENTICAL to Erbolario’s Corteccia. It hit me after a few hours of wear, I kept catching whiffs of my first boyfriend’s perfume… I was like, “what the hell, girl, are you getting a melancholy punch?” but no, it was L’ange noir lingering on my wrist and it’s 90% the way I remember Corteccia smelling on him years ago. Needless to say I am in a love-hate relationship with this perfume now.

An extraordinary fragrance from Givenchy. Finally a fragrance with ‘noir’ in the title that indeed smells dark and mysterious.
I mostly get heavy almond, dark iris and balsamic tonka. I also get some sesame seed, which makes the scent a little spicy, in a very nice way. In the background, there’s a little pink pepper and bergamot, adding some freshness.
    Dark, balsamic, but very wearable.
Sillage is moderate, longevity is about 6 hours.
    Great fragrance!

The first time I sampled this one I was a bit dismissive. I thought it was weird and at the time I wasn’t a fan of “lipstick” scents. Something about this one stuck in my mind for some reason and I finally got a FB. I felt like I needed more time with this scent then another sample size could give me. At first spray it’s a little off putting, it really is a strong makeup/lipstick scent with something a little spicy in there somewhere. After a short time it kind of “settles” and that’s when the real magic happens. A sweet creamy powdery delight is born. I still don’t really get a “noir” vibe from this, but it’s a beauty and I’m glad I gave it another chance. Update: the ambrette really shines towards the drydown when you get this masculine musky cologne vibe. I’m really starting to fall for this strange little scent

I seem to be the only one who doesn’t get the lipstick impression of it. The reviewer below describes it as creamy… Not even that, not at all.
I get a cloud of powder. Sweet yes, but dark and powdery. In my book, what’s powdery technically cannot be creamy as well (unless it develops so in its different stages).
In my book, lipsticks also couldn’t possibly be powdery, so…
Ange Noir could be a great unisex fragrance and I think it would be very popular within men who like their fragrances on the sweet side, which are quite popular nowadays.
I am testing my Ange Noir from a decant, courtesy of a lovely Fragrantican <3
*I need to add that the longevity is exceptional! And I’m not easy on that qualification granting. Even in this dog’s heat it never stopped radiating all around me, and all I’ve been doing was studying. I am embarrassed to admit, but it was actually too much for me! Hours later, I couldn’t take it any longer and went for a good bath to get it of my skin and hair. This really doesn’t happen to me a lot. Like ever.
So, for anyone who wants to smell deliciously powdery, and sweet in a dark and semi-masculine manner, all day long, even in the heat, this is the perfect choice for you!

OMG! What a great fragrance! This is so beautifull, very very creamy, like the SailorV’s review i agree about the nutty milky aspect. I got this with Elizabeth and James Amethyst, but that was a disappointing blind buy. This one is a love.

  9. :

    4 out of 5

I’m quite neutral about lipstick-like fragrances: I generally like them, but they’re not my favorite genre.
L’Ange Noir is a really good one out of that category. It does remind me of Lipstick On (which I also like) a little bit, but it’s not the same at all, it’s heavier, less fresh and sweet, more mature, but in a good way.
In LO I get a strong bergamot in the opening, in L’Ange Noir, I don’t.
The scent is very waxy and creamy, it doesn’t become too powdery or dry. Cool iris and warm almond and tonka balance out nicely. It’s a bit sweet, but not a gourmand fragrance. What really makes this stand out is the sesame note. It’s unusual, savory and nutty, very special, but not weird.
Definitely a must-try for any lover of cosmetic-like or almondy scents.

Sophisticated and niche worthy, in my opinion. Catching whiffs of this fragrance is amazing even if, at first, it’s quite peppery on skin. This is the most realistic lipstick scent I’ve come across! It smells identical to those old lipsticks from decades ago. In the dry down it’s softer and slightly sweeter. The sesame note gives this fragrance an unctuous smell which goes so well with the dryness of iris, the bitterness of almonds and spiciness of pepper! Simply amazing!

Almond is one of my most favorite perfume notes,I love it in all it’s variations, when I saw it’s paired with iris and tonka in givenchy l’ange noir I immediately ordered it which was a great decision
L’ange noir worthes every penny I paid for it.I agree that it has a niche-like quality, also I agree that it can be unisex.I usually don’t like feminine perfumes with a masculine/unisex vibe but this is among exceptions.I love it!
Almond is very prominent but this isn’t a sweet almondy gourmand.on the contrary I find it somehow bitter.yes, there’s tonka and amber giving it this balmy sweetness but all in all it’s not a sweet perfume.I adore whatever note which makes a perfume delicious and at the same time bitter-ish or dark, such as licorice, myrrh, hazelnut, cocoa, cinnamon &…I believe sesame acts the same here.it gives this a pastry-like but not sweet deliciousness.the overall scent feels very dry and somehow cold when first sprayed but it becomes warmer and buttery as time passes.iris is easily detectable making it look like a far relative of Dior homme intense but I wished there was more iris here.vintage lipstick, face powder goes very well with this almondy bread thing but I feel sometimes the latter one overpowers iris and covers it
L’ange noir is kind of dark without being pretentious.I find it comforting and a confidence booster and sometimes crave it but I don’t wear it regularly.I need more sweetness, more florals for my regular perfumes so I often layer in with Armani code cashmere.the result is Devine.I also love it’s layer with Dior homme intense and valentino uomo on my husband
Longevity is very good.sillage is medium.it’s bottle looks great
    Highly recommended

The opening is difficult to tolerate. It is a deep sweetness mixed with something oriental that just smell bad and rotten, and a bit bread- like. I guess it is the sesame. It does give this fragrance a certain exotic vibe, but the perfume would be much better without it.
Once it is gone, i am left with a dark, soft powder and a makeup shop smell.
I prefer L’Ange ou Demon to this one, but once the sesame is gone, it is not a bad fragrance. It has a certain Shalimar vibe that is pleasant.
I recommend it to extravagant, goth, mature women.

I was totally in love with this one but now finding the sesame seed note extreme and too much, all was going great until we dined at a Asian restaurant and the fried rice had the same smell and from that night it’s all I can smell in this fragrance.
I’m hoping my love returns but I’m not betting on it.
A try a few times before buy type scent.
I thought it fair to mention my experience seeing I did a big ‘love’ review further down.
It’s a strong like for me now. x

Creamy, buttery, and waxy. Three very distinct feelings I get from this gorgeous creation. There is no overt sweetness here. Instead, it feels almost candle like.. Creamy and airy.. Like an expensive spa smell..
People who prefer their lipstick perfumes with some sweetness to balance them out and make them more user friendly may shy away. This is pretty straight forward. Occasionally I get coconut milk, but this mostly stays full on unapologetic lipstick wax.
I personally adore the sesame note many seem to struggle with here. Insanely unique and well done take on the lipstick fragrance genre thats super on trend lately. Very unisex.

L’Ange Noir by Givenchy is very much on trend with the current influx of almond scents flooding the market. Thankfully I love the scent of almond and find L’Ange Noir very wearable, if not sensual.
There are very few similarities between L’Ange Noir and the original Ange ou Demon series. This fragrance is more of a gourmand with lots of sugared almonds, vanillic tonka bean, and syrupy amber. The iris lends a soothing powdery aspect which softens the scent considerably. It’s like a darker, sexier version of Prada’s Infusion d’Amande on my skin.
The bottle is positively stunning in person with its violet hues and glittery lacquer at the base. I would quite happily stare at the bottle on my dresser all day long if I could get away with it.
The longevity on my skin was superb lasting at least six to seven hours, however, the sillage was relatively soft. I would recommend L’Ange Noir for evening wear as the name suggests, however you could also wear it as a daytime scent during Winter and Autumn as long as the weather permits.

    ICK
Floral with an undercurrent of gas station bathroom deodorizer. Strong chemical, medicinal, off-putting undercurrent. Some of the fine folks on Fragrantica compare iris to to the scent of carrots – a veggie that makes me deathly ill (smell, taste, texture . . .) so the iris note might be why I am getting a sharp/bitter strong negative reaction to L’Ange Noir.
Generally a fan of Givenchy (Chamade was my first grown-up fragrance). This is not in the same league as that.

Very off putting to me. I don’t really find this to be very feminine or sexy. I also don’t find it very “dark” It’s a bit of a meh for me. I love Ange ou Demon… it’s sweet, thick, heady and sensual, yet very unique, nothing else smells like it. Ange Noir has a strong lipstick vibe. If you like that sort of makeup scent then you will probably love this. I have discovered that I don’t like smelling like that myself. It’s a nice smell, but not what I personally want to smell like.

İ first detected a very heavy sugary hazelnut syrup kind of top note then quickly it turned out as a carroty rooty iris powder. I prefer my iris fresh and grassy which is quite rare to encounter. Very strong iris&tonka not like infusion d’iris’s fresh touch but more like some cardigan type winter perfume as guerlain would do with iris

This fragrance has A LOT of dislikes. I don’t really understand why… it’s actually pretty great as long as it’s properly applied with a very light hand because it’s STRONG. People adore MM “Lipstick On” which I also own and it is quite similar, yet they hate this. Perhaps it’s the sesame note most people struggle with? Anyway, it’s very lovely. Powdery, sweet, warm, and indeed Noir. I don’t find the sesame off putting or overly intense. If anything it lends a slightly waxy, nutty, texture that’s necessary to the overall effect. I love it! It’s unpopular but I would definitely repurchase. It’s much cheaper than Lipstick On so I recommend it to those who want that cosmetics note at a bit lower price. Let me be crystal clear: They are NOT identical Twins, but more like half sisters. I don’t want anyone blind buying because someone on fragrantica said it was a dupe. It’s not. But it does share some serious similarities in the dry down.
L’ange Noir, like most Givenchy fragrances, lasts forever on me! I mean it goes the distance! My skin typically eats perfume quickly but most from this house stick around 8-12 hours and L’ange Noir proudly joins the ranks of its predecessors. Others have mentioned it is masculine… it is NOIR. Very dark. And some truly dark fragrances seem to come off that way to some people. I don’t really think of gender in relation to fragrance though. So it would have to be pretty darn “classically masculine marketed cologne smelling” for me to agree on that point and this definitely doesn’t smell like a cologne marketed towards men. Straight up manly? No. Unisex? Sure! But consider the source…I think everything is unisex! lol

This opens with nothing but a smell of sesame. For me it’s not pleasant at all. Yuck! Luckily this lasts only for 5 minutes and then turns into a very lovely, powdery lipstick scent. Very similar to Lipstick on. It’s on my want list.
EDIT 1: I couldn’t stop thinking about this one so I ended up buying it.Yup, it’s that captivating 🙂
EDIT 2: This is my top 3 perfume now. That sesame smell at the beginning doesn’t bother me anymore. It is such a divine, longlasting fragrance.

  21. :

Great stuff! Opens with a pungent sesame seed and dusty, waxy Iris mix, smooths out with a sweet tonka, a gorgeous fragrance of depth.
Highly recommend and a love for me xxx
Update : This on my skin is very long lasting, I woke to a strong, close, smooth, sweet skin scent and I really love this scent.

  22. :

    3 out of 5

I can detect the iris right away because to me it smells like carrots. Interesting perfume at the first spray but on my skin this dissapears after a couple of hours. I can’t even smell it if I put my nose straight to my skin. I don’t think this smells like Shalimar Parfum Initial at all – Shalimar is more interesting, has distinct developing stages whereas this plain just dissapears. So I can’t confirm the niche feel as I think that would mean longevity and some sort of different stages in the development of the perfume on the skin. The perfume industry should just start to name these kind of subtle “eaux des parfumes” what they really are: eaux des toilettes.
I believe that skin chemistry plays a huge part. If your skin agrees with this perfume it stands out because of the iris which isn’t in every mainstream concoction at the moment. If you have a dry skin you might end up wondering where did this eau de ghost disappear.

Great, great stuff! Well done, Givenchy! It is sophisticated, elegant, mysterious and complex on so many levels. Definately needed such a perfume. Although it is not listed, I detect a bit of coconut but it must be he tonka bean combined with the almonds. Love it!

I went sniffing with great expectations and in great anticipation as the notes for this one seemed just right for me…Iris, almonds, tonka bean, amber.. I honestly thought I’d adore it. And it was on sale. But…nope…I thought it was going to be a floral gourmand, a dark elegant delicious-something…But it was just sweet-ish, airy and something synthetic lurking in the background. Then that synthetic did show up and I just felt so sorry…Now the combination of notes in this one will haunt me. What I imagined will be an obsession till I find something that meets that imagination… Damn it! 🙂

Very nice scent. I keep smelling my arm. I bought it for a gender fluid friend of mine and yes, as @iamoir said: “could work on a man too.”
“Torilla tavataan!” @Suomineito 😀 I’m dry skinned and this just works. It’s fascinating how some fragrances just work or don’t work on some skins.

  27. :

    4 out of 5

Oh my… This is dreadful! I get almonds, iris and something unnatural and toxic. A nauseatingly sweet and weird plasticky-powdery smell. No wonder it was in the bargain bin.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

This is like a film noir –atmosphere captured into the perfume bottle.
I immediately took a huge fancy to this perfume. It is a dusky scent, which isn’t too suffocating by being overly heavy or super-sweet. It is beautifully powdery, lipstick-like, waxy smelling fragrance, sort of the feeling like pushing your head into a leather vanity bag which is full of high-end cosmetic products. This is feminine in a dignifying way. I sense strongly the glamour of old Hollywood in it in my imagination – thinking about Rita Hayworth; she would have been wearing it by a suitable, graceful way.
I believe that L’Ange Noir isn’t made for being a crowd pleaser. It’s not everyone’s favorite and first choice, but then it’s not also coming around in every corner within every oncoming citizen. You are able to feel yourself a special one by wearing this. If you are keen on notes of powdery iris, creamy almonds and refined rounded softness and muted down tender sweetness, then, then this is a perfume worth trying. Givenchy’s L’Ange Noir is a stylish perfume, which attracted a nibble of attention among people around you. This isn’t easy, but this is the different one. I am hooked.

  29. :

    5 out of 5

I love it from first sniff. It is not a common thing to find a bitter perfume nowadays and I just wonder how on earth wasn’t Ange Noir discontinued yet. A miracle!
Long lasting but stays close to skin. Survived washing with soap and water. And later it survived several wipings with wet wipes. Smells powdery, buttery, lipsticky. Old lipstick type. That’s a plus. It is noir. It is odd. Could work on a man too.
As for the notes: bitter almond dominates the fragrance. There is the powdery iris and personally I smell the sesame too, I think it’s even more prevalent than iris at times. The role of sesame here is to intensify the almond; make it more bitter. Because sesame is truly bitter if you have ever tasted just sesame. Initially is very musky and strong but it softens within minutes and settles like that. The overall blend misses some florals, but that’s okay! It is also balmy, which I love in a perfume.
I’m happy to have found a scent with bitter almond that works for me. Yes there is hypnotic poison, but it’s packed with vanilla and it’s not my poison really. But Ange Noir is a fit.
    A yes from me.

Ange ou demon flanker; thought i would definately get some a.o.d. dna coming through but i get no association with this line at all. Definately lipsticky, powdery and that platic vibe. Not much projection but quite intense. Not for me sorry and i dont get the similarity to shalimar pi at all

  31. :

A powdery scent, that remains close to the skin throughout all of its phases.
The opening is really dark, controlled by the smell of dark sesame oil. This short phase is masculine and controversial. The dry down gradually brings out the sweetness and the nice makeup powder vibe. It becomes really good by time. Powdery yes, but not creamy.
At least this was my first impression from a single test. Overall, a nice perfume, in a very chic bottle.

  32. :

This is a big no-no for me! I love powdery-almondish scents, but this is just rotten sesame seeds! I was expecting so much more from this scent! Don’t blind-buy this one!

This is lovely, successfully made stylish scent with luxury impression. Not at all strong, merely very intensive, and subtle at the same time. This is september and winter scent, wear it with woollen pullover. Iris is very warm and intense here. My skin loves this…

  34. :

MMMM…such a comforting smell. I really love this..but then again, I love anything with iris and the vintage smell of makeup powder. The amber and tonka bean gives it that gentle warmth and the sesame seed and almond give it a rich, nutty pasty smell. I really like this one, it smells just like “Lipstick On” but this one lasts alot longer. 🙂

Powdery almond in perfect description. I don’t like it as I dont like almond note. Silage and longetivity is poor. Not for me.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

Iris is a very versatile note, it can be interpreted in many different ways. Here, in my opinion, creators couldn’t make up their mind so they did a little bit of everything.
For the first couple of hours it smells like a combination of two perfumes. There is thick buttery iris note with almost leathery texture from Shalimar Parfum Initial and rich milky benzoin from Prada Candy. It’s smooth and creamy, not powdery at all and borderline gourmand. So far so good.
It’s a second phase that I have problem with. It becomes drier and louder (and it wasn’t quiet to begin with) and there is a third party that comes into play which I can only describe as a purple powder that tickles my nose and reminds me of Givenchy Dahlia Noir.
Although I like Dahlia Noir as well as the other two mentioned perfumes the combination of all three is to much for me. Food, leather and make up powder just don’t go together.
L’Ange Noir is a complex and distinct perfume but a bit overwhelming and tiresome on my skin. I’ll stick to Ange ou Demon.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

A blind buy splurge for me, I love the EDP of AouD and this sounded amazing.
    I like it.
It’s like Shalimar Initial EDP mixed with Prada Candy. The benzoin in L’Ange Noir is exactly like PC in my opinion. And the powdery sweet vintage lipstick vibe is like SPI. (The sweet powder also reminded me of Insolence a bit)
This isn’t too groundbreaking for me, it’s not a huge love, but I like it. Soft, dry, yet great longevity, and above average sillage. In fact, the musky benzoin drydown lasted forever, but was kinda boring by that time.
I don’t see benzoin in the notes…. but something is very similar to the musky sweet of PC.
I do remember something smoky/spicy…. but not that much.
Wearing again on a sloppy winter day…. this is sweet, but reminds me of Private Room by Jeanne Arthes, and that rather disappoints me. I love Private Room, but this Givenchy shouldn’t smell like a $10 drugstore perfume. 🙁 Granted, L’Ange Noir is unique for that dusty lipstick smell.

Another perfume i can call “love at first sniff” 🙂 Also now my first Givenchy. I had high hopes for the juice judging by the notes and the premise of a film noir scent. Well:)
It opens with a blast of cool lipstick iris, warm sesame that gives a powdery bready note, a tiny hue of red fruit (maybe the ambrette with the pink pepper) and almost candied almond. The sesame accord is divine and adds an unexpected twist to the scent. This alone puts it in “danger” of entering my favorite scents top 10!
The fragrance remains sweet, powdery, with a veil of almond dough and sesame nuttiness, with a cool restrained iris. Very androgynous, L’ange noir stands between gourmand territory and powdery darkness, almost like 2 separate parts that mix beautifully together. The bottle is a beauty too.
    scent: 8+/10
    longevity: 6/10
    sillage: 6/10

I finally got my bottle today! I wanted powder and L’Ange Noir gives me just that! It’s a gorgeous deep and dark sweet-powdery fragrance.I agree with Germany when she says it has a niche quality, it is really beautiful. The iris is rich and buttery and yet it is very powdery.
I see L’Ange Noir better worn during a breezy and cold night just the right amount to turn heads and have people asking what you are wearing.
it is better suited to a lady who loves powdery fragrances as this is very dusty and yes it is sweet but not over the top.
    Brilliant creation!

It smells a lot like Shalimar Parfum Initial by Guerlain

I agree with the reviewer that said that it smells like Lipstick On. That was the very first thing I thought when I smelled this. It’s the same powdery musky vanilla-like iris note, in which both smell quite chalky. It smells like what I imagine to be Rita Hayworth’s powder room from the 1940s to smell like, except with a freshly baked baguette delivered there by her maid. The sesame gives it in oily, almost buttery quality. Very interesting fragrance indeed. Anyone who likes iris or Lipstick On should check this out.

There’s almond and there’s almond. I like almond in perfume. Unfortunately this is not it. It’s too sweet, too cloying. You know how some people hate marzipan? Well, I guess this perfume is like marzipan – you may like it or not. Ironically I quite like it.
The notes look promising but the delivery is different. The longevity is great though. Probably like with most perfumes one dislikes:)
And have you noticed how all the black or noir(e) perfumes lately are far from dark and mysterious? Like they’re competing which can actually be most opposite to the word, which can be sweeter and nicer.

Starts really gourmie with sweet almond and intense tonka. Fades into a comforting milky scent with a slightly masculine vibe, yet it’s very alluring. Interesting new perfume, not common for Givenchy. Nice silage and longevity.

There are just three notes as I’ve read on the sampler black sesame iris and amber. But I get very strong note of benzoin, it’s like 5 times stronger prada candy version, very strong and unattractive, would say it smells more masculine than feminine.

I smell iris, tonka beans, almonds…. Sweet, but not too heavily. Quite a delicate scent, dark, piquant, warm. The longer I wear it, the more I like it. Never liked Givenchy. Changed my mind.

I think it’s an interesting scent by Givenchy. Quite outstanding from the masses. It’s the powdery iris, that makes is mysterious and interesting. Besides that I can sense sweet almond and tonka bean.
I like this smoky, dark, mysterious and seductive scent. Quite intriguing.

Very similar to L’ARTISAN Bois Farine.
Mild and soft one with dusty iris.
The sesame and almond really give a buttery, bready edge but it is not ön the gourmand side. Very fluffy, warm and nice for winter.
Special as not sugar boosted one in the drogeries.

I love iris perfumes , what can I say? I especially like warm powdery sweet iris perfumes.
I realize most people do not love the iris note in perfumes as much as i do. It seems most iris dominant perfumes get bad reviews. This particular one reminds me of silver iris by atelier , it’s dense , buttery , powdery and sweet. I love the sesame , it gives it a bready smell , which I bet is something lots of people don’t like.,, Like “love in black ” , one of my favourites ,has a bread note also. The almond and tonka is nice and give it a dense sweet gourmandish edge. But this perfume is not a gourmand. It reminds me of a few iris heavy perfumes in the niche category but it still has its own smell. The amberette is great too , with its musky vegetal note ,slightly metallic and well suited for an iris heavy perfume. Also the amber makes this perfume a little elegant and gives it a great base.
I could see how some may find it masculine in a way as it also reminds me of DH , which by the way is not your typical masculine perfume. It’s worn by many women. This is a keeper , at least for me. It’s different in a way. It enters niche / different category ,it’s not your regular department store perfume, that’s for sure.

Nice dusty-powdery composition, based on iris, musk, almond and tonka bean. It’s not noir or femme fatale, so the advertising and glitter on the bottle is a little bit misleading. L’Ange Noir is dreamy, mysterious, noble, earthy, very grown-up, but not exactly lady-like scent. Imagine beautiful warm autumn evening – the light is soft, it makes all the things to look less angular, and everything is wrapped in the subtle glowing mist. Similar to Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum. L’Ange Noir is not very “feminine”, could be labelled as a unisex.

starts off with smokey sweet and a bit spicy almond, really delicious, but fades into rather boring drydown.

We have it in Canada, I got it unsniffed, it is better than the other versions, it is longer lasting, it has that oriental vibe, it isn’t gourmand, and the black sesame gives it a bit of a dry edge too..I am not like waowed by it, but it is interesting, grown up, sensuous yes…the base is sweeter, but the overall tone isnt sweet, more floral oriental, with a hint
