Description

Armani presented Acqua di Gioia in 2010 as the fragrance of the sea and placed its aquatic character in the foreground. It is dedicated to a woman who is a ”strong, dignified and free spirit but in perfect harmony with nature”.In the spring of 2016, the collection is joined by two new editions, Air di Gioia and Sun di Gioia, which symbolize the breeze and the summer sun, thus expanding the collection of natural elements of water, air and fire.

Air di Gioia is dedicated to the element of air and is aimed at the free, unpredictable woman. The new release reportedly evokes a sensation of the scent of freedom. It consists of a salt accord in the opening of the composition, a floral heart of lush peony, and a woody and sharp base of patchouli and cypress.

The fragrances are available as a 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Salty and citrusy. Less interesting fresh fragrance from the line.

Thick, sweet, salty. I’m used to more sheer warm-weather fragrances and in the current London heat wave, Air di Gioia’s initial blast is almost too much! After the first half hour however, the scent gets softer and more woody. I love catching whiffs of its stellar longevity throughout the day. A supremely beachy scent that avoids the current coconut/tiara sun cream obsession.

    Great….makes me feel cheerful…
Works well on my skin, complex but not overwhelming, a little oceanic, a little neroli…but layers of flowers and wood. A breeze…

Air di Gioia is a refreshing take on the salty fragrance genre. It’s somewhat beachy, without having a coconut/suntan oil, tropical flower or 90s melon aquatic vibe going on, and not too sweet.
Even though it’s not listed in the notes, I can smell a clean jasmine/white floral note, supported by peony and cashmere wood. It’s fresh, floral and creamy and this accord reminds me of Acqua di Gioia EDT a lot.
The salt and cypress notes make me think of a beach by a conifer forest on a warm, slightly windy day. I think the moss and patchouli add some earthiness to the drydown, but they’re not dominant at all.
This is a pretty, fresh summer fragrance with average performance. No must have to me, but I can’t say anything bad about it either.

Okay..I kind of have a love/hate (for lack of a better term) with both Acqua di Gioia and Air. Both are pleasant enough and great for high heat and humidity, but both greatly lack longevity, although I will say Air lasts a bit longer, becoming a very soft skin scent after about half an hour of applying, whereas Acqua literally poofs completely on me in less than half an hour. So, kudos for making Air last longer, at least on my skin.
Note-wise, I can’t really pick up any specific notes, just a clean crisp type of scent. I guess when straining to sniff I can pick up the salt note and a bit of the woody note, but overall this is just fresh clean and fresh and crisp on me/to my nose. I definitely don’t pick up any patchouli, and that is actually a welcome relief for me to not pick up any patchouli (or musk) in a summer scent. But overall the notes all are blended so well, nothing really screeching over the other. I like that I am able to pick up the cashmere wood note when straining to sniff, it lends a nice bit of earthiness, keeping this from being too screechy or too heavy on the white floral, which I appreciate.
True, it is not a earth-shattering unique fragrance, but not every day or every occasion or every person calls for earth-shattering unique. And I realize some might compare this to a body mist, especially in regards to sillage and longevity, but most body mists are quite synthetic and/or cloying to my nose, and this is not. And this does not turn into funky smells as the day wears on for me, like some body mists can for me.
Having said all of that, I will say..I do wish this had better sillage..that is probably my only complaint with this. But that is often the case with clean types of fragrances. Otherwise sometimes they can be screechy.
Not an everyday fragrance for me, but I enjoy this on outdoorsy types of days, carefree types of days, lounging at home, doing nothing, those types of days. Days that I don’t want my perfume to ‘stand out’…So..nicely done. 🙂

This reminded me of Dior’s J’adore in Joy; fresh, salty, aquatic, hints of fruitiness.. I think that the J’adore is possibly a little fruitier although it’s been a while since I last tried it!
This is a very pleasant fragrance let’s say, it’s nothing ground-breaking but if will be beautiful in warmer weather. A great holiday fragrance if like me you aren’t lucky enough to live by the coast!
For me it’s a bit more interesting than the original Acqua di gioia, and to compare again to J’adore In Joy, this is an EDP so I imagine that it will have much better performance although I haven’t finished my skin test as yet 🙂
    All-in-all it’s pretty and summery.

Absolutely gorgeous.. This is my favourite from this line and i feel it is so underrated and misunderstood
It is neither generic, nor aquatic. It is quite unique!
The first stage is confusing. It opens somewhat sharp and bitter with a tad of citrus. Then it turns more floral, but is still harsh. But when the perfume finally finds its form, it is beautiful. As it settles more, it turns slightly sweeter. Yes, it is somewhat “salty”, floral, aromatic with a hint of sweetness. The patchouli is very detectable in the drydown. This one needs its time to settle to be fully appreciated!
    Great summer fragrance

I normally love Aquatic notes but on my skin it smelled very sharp and astringent. I couldn’t wait to scrub it off!

I have wanted to test this fragrance and was happy to receive a sample today. I get a salty ocean air vibe from it, but I don’t really like it. It needs to be a little sweeter or fruitier. It’s missing something for me.

  10. :

    3 out of 5

This smells like a clean generic scent. Definitely smells airy and fresh. It’s not the most unique scent so it is easily forgettable. I do like it but don’t love it. If you like fresh inoffensive fragrances then give this one a try.

  11. :

This is strong compared to the other gioias. So that’s a huge plus

  12. :

It’s salty, fresh with bit floral and wood. Nothing sweet or soapy about this. For me this doesn’t really remind sea, rather lightly there is something about bleach. Personally for me this seems heavy and potentially could give headache. Nice for everyday hot summer.

  13. :

    3 out of 5

Fresh, watery and a bit floral. After the initial blast, it’s quite light and clean. It’s nothing terribly original, but it’s nice and light. Could easily fit into the unisex category.

  14. :

Its really nice on those days when I just want to escape to a coast line. I could be any coast, where salt mixes with the wood on a boardwalk or picnic table at the beach. I’m getting a bit of pine and dried laundry too. It reminds me of beach camping. Its dry, not too sweet. I am in love with it!

I had high hopes for air di gioia since I like the others in this line and I’m usually into fresh and clean floral scents
When first sprayed I thought not bad but not that I like it.on my skin it Smells like clean, almost soapy peony and white florals(a soapy jasmine I was guessing).as mentioned before I love clean scents but it’s not among good clean scents I know,I can get floral air freshner association in other reviews.still I may press the like button if it stayed like that but after couple of minutes I could feel something aquatic/ozonic wafting through clean florals.in this stage I started to understand what other reviews mean by saying a cool breeze in seaside.well,I highly dislike aquatic/ozonic scents so no wonder I dislike it in this stage.I gave it enough time to drydown and it changed but didn’t get any better for me,patchouli and woody notes started to show up and become strong.what lasts on my skin for some good hours is a hint of clean and soapy but not lovely florals+ something that makes me think of cool air of seashore(like salty, wet air)+ patchouli and other woody notes with green edges.there’s nothing for me to like here so this is my least favorite one in gioia line(sun di gioia is my most favorite)
Armani air di gioia is a cool,non-fruity non-sweet summer scent,it has a unisex vibe and doesn’t have happy, carefree, sunny, sparkly qualities of some other summer scents

Reminds me of Fabric conditioner. Someone suggested that it smells like the air before a storm and I can certainly relate to that when I smell this perfume.

Finally, a fresh floral scent which doesnt smell like bathroom cleanser! I have to say i never really like acqua di gioia because the jasmine was too strong for me…but i tried this beauty and it is exactly what i was looking for: an aquatic ,fresh, little sour ,floral smell..perfect for summer days…reminds of ocean breeze and countryside…just AMAZING
    Longevity:8,5 /10

This is very similar to Ever Bloom EDP by Shiseido. It’s flowery and nice, but nothing new or special at all.

  19. :

It’s really nice, fresh and clean scent, love to wear in summer or spring makes me feel clean and fresh. I think this quite unique, classy, earthy but something sweet. It sits on my skin last all day long with a little sillage not overwhelming, can’t tell how much I love this perfume.

  20. :

Air di Gioia is quite lovely. I must admit I wasn’t expecting much from this new flanker in the Acqua di Gioia line. The original was a tad too tart and fruity on my skin, however Air di Gioia appears to be more floral with the subtlest hint of ocean air and woods.
Air di Gioia for me evokes the smell and the sensation of sitting on a deserted beach on a cold morning, rugged up in a sweater and a scarf, feeling the cool sea breeze against your skin. This is definitely not a bright, fun Summer scent to my nose. It appears to be more somber yet also soothing.
Perhaps I am quite partial to this fragrance due to its dominant orange blossom and peony blend. Florals tend to be more my cup of tea than fruity and/or sharp aquatic scents. I loved the original, since discontinued Acqua di Gio for Women, and I feel that Air di Gioia is the closest in terms of matching its character.
Whilst not overwhelming, Air di Gioia does have excellent projection and longevity on my skin. This flanker has renewed my appreciation for Giorgio Armani and their regular line-up of fragrances. I love how soft, fresh florals are starting to make a bit of a comeback in 2017.
I look forward to re-testing this fragrance a few more times before the warm weather disappears. I may in fact be adding Air di Gioia to my collection very soon.

At the first sniff I just tought, it is Oceanus by TBS. I felt that well know clean laundery softner scent (in a good way). But even thought it is Armani, i find it a bit pricy for this kind of scent. Silage and longevity is very good

  22. :

This is very interesting! The salt note in the formula really sharpens the overall feel of the fragrance, but at the same time, the peony gives me even more depth with a floral and fresh vibe. Boy is it strong! I have a little sample, and its scent is wafting wherever I lay it. Fresh, aquatic, floral, perfect for the spring and summer.
Also, this reminds me of Alien by Thierry Mugler. Maybe it’s the floral note, but Alien is more on the sensual side with the amber, while this is more fresh and clean with the salt.

I tried this perfume a few times in the shop, and I love it. On me it smells like fresh air, like wind blowing into your face on a nice summer day. Unfortunately, and the reason why I haven’t bought this so far, it lasts only minutes. By the time I was out of the shop, I couldn’t smell a thing! Given it’s pretty expensive too, I feel like it isn’t worth the money.

  24. :

This one doesn’t do it for me. Ozonic salty green peony, migraine material. Like overdosing on fabric softener. No thanks.

  25. :

Rounded rather than sharp, creamy marine fresh, floral ish, watery slightly, I don’t get salty, I get woody only if i press the crease of my arm together and sniff a second time.
A man could wear this, it’s not manly as such, it doesn’t have that men’s deodorant smell, not a love, but certainly worth a look. It’s not sexy delicious edible type, it’s clean and put together.
Edit, the beginnings are the rounded marine fresh floral, the mid notes I’m starting to get a bit of a woody vibe

  26. :

oh dear, a terrible blind buy. Does not smell “airy”, fresh or even salty. Strong smell of “flowers”…old fashioned flowers. Racked my brains to try and remember where I had smelt this before….then realised it was the expensive flowery soaps that my grandmother loved buying when I was a kid. Magnolia/lily of the valley etc…..exactly the same vibe.

  27. :

    3 out of 5

MMMMhhhhh… a fresh, clean, slightly marine breeze.
This is very much a-wake -the-tired-self-up-kind of scent.
I detect citrus notes in the opening.
A lucious ,slightly salted, rose in the heart.
A tad of musk in the base, weaving this composition together.
I can see the seaside, smell the slalty air and experience the freshness of roses evaporating their soft aroma into the very sun dried air.
Verdict: nice fresh clean scent. Not offensive at all.
    Lastingpower and sillage are moderate.

I have this on right now…I really like the notes but its very strong, sillage wise. It is airy, a bit aquatic, definitely floral and spring like. I like it more than Acqua di Gioia. There is another fragrance that smells almost identical but I can’t remember, its driving me crazy lol.
I don’t get any patchouli at all but perhaps that comes hours later? I enjoy after the initial spray. Its very cool, chilly spring scent. Feels sophisticated.

  29. :

Wow, finally Gioia that appeals to me. It is a beast. A bomb of fresh air. Hard to describe, but it is a wave that makes you feel like flying. Wonderful.

  30. :

I find this scent very similar to L’Air by Nina Ricci. I thought it was pure magnolia when I smelled it earlier! I am shocked that it does not contain any magnolia at all! This scent is not sweet at all and a little harsh. Not a safe blind buy in my opinion.

  31. :

I test it today, and reminds me Angel sunessence eau legere. It’s not identical but the tamed patchouli and sweet acord in the drydown smell similar to me. The salty note it’s there and it’s blend beautiful with my skin. I really like it.

I usually don’t like “clean” scents but this is great AND squeaky clean! Like……geez how do I describe this….aquatic linens. Imagine floating above the ocean on your magic carpet, which is a freshly washed and dried, huge beach towel. Lol!!!! Not much help? Yeah…I know, I suck at this. It’s just really clean and crisp. An ocean of dryer sheets……yeah…I’m just gonna stop now. Y’all go try it. Lol!!!! I’ll be purchasing this I’m very sure!

Beautiful fragrance. It smells like Italy to me, may be because I wore it in Florence and may I say, it really suited the atmosphere:)

  35. :

    5 out of 5

Beautiful aquatic. It’s compared to The Body Shop’s Oceanus perfume—it’s been years since I’ve smelled that one, but I can remember that it did smell similar. It has a kind of lightly sweet aquatic scent with a refreshing touch of salt. It also has a good sillage and longevity also.

  36. :

    3 out of 5

This is a Gioia from a new generation – salty and aromatic, nothing reminds me of the previous citrusy bombs. I like the sillage and the scent is very versatile. On me salt, peony and cypress are most prominent. I really love this one. Office friendly, very summery and smells of nature.

  37. :

    5 out of 5

I don’t know what it is about me, but my body loves to amplify white flowers and it happened with this one.
The begining was very similar to the Aquas, maybe a tad lighter, but after a couple of hours I noticed there was a scent there that was begining to get sharp and annoying. I though it could be the patchouli but that really isn’t. To me is the combination of Neroly and Orange Blosom. The intensify on my skin and they are on the verge of being too sharp and give me a headache.
The smell is nice enough, but I would not buy it cause it just doesn’t work on my skin. When I tested it on papper I didn’t get that sharpness.
I think I’ll stick to the aquas.
    Sillage and Longevity are moderate.

  38. :

Anyone who remembers and misses the cool aquatic breeze that was Oceanus by TBS, will like this, a lot.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

I like it better than Sun, still, unimpressed by it, poor quality maybe , or too light!? It is fresh enough then it is gone so fast, like a body spray!? Those two flankers are really fails in my opinion!!

  40. :

    4 out of 5

A very refreshing alternative to Cool Water. Well done and easy to wear on hot summerdays. It is aquatic and fresh – not sharp- with only a hint of a shy rose. This air smells green to me, quite minty and reminds me on Aqua Di Gioia. Feels like a gust of wind coming up from the sea, along dunes, passing grasses and cypresses. Lasting for more than 5 hours on my skin.

  41. :

I tested this today, a few hours ago. I did not like it at all, something keeps making me think of cigarette buts. Very hard to wash off, too.

  42. :

    3 out of 5

I really like this. So fresh, clean and uplifting. Lasts forever on me too. I mostly smell peony, orange blossom and neroli. I think the name is very fitting as it feels like a sunny but breezy day by the ocean.

  43. :

    3 out of 5

I like this one less than the Sun di Gioia perfume. It’s white floral fresh. I can sense peony, orange blossom and neroli. This pure neroli smell, makes me mad, it’s such a screechy scent.
People associate sea and fresh air with the fresh scent and blue bottle but to me it’s just strong floral scent and not the nicest one.

  44. :

    5 out of 5

Very fresh, slightly salty, intense cypress scent. Quite manly, to be honest. It smells like humid, marine air after a storm. I like it, but I don’t find it feminine enough.

  45. :

I didn’t like it at first but then I got a sample and it grew on me, this is fresh, acquatic elegant and lasts a good few hours on me perfect scent to smell great in summer and late spring.

As of the today, the notes listed on Fragrantica are totally incorrect which you should be aware when buying blind this fragrance. There is NO salt or cypress actually in oficial notes description. Here is a copy paste from official Giorgio Armani beauty web site:
The olfactory score is an Italian melody of mandarin-neroli, a “salty floral” refrain composed of peony, ylang-ylang, and orange blossom, all on the base of a woody, patchouli-Cashmeran hymn with a hint of moss. The wake is buoyant and euphoric, as free and exhilarating as pure, fresh air.
As you see, salty floral acvord is actually a combination of other notrs than just a salt and it is sad to see that such a huge resource as fragrantica misleads its thousands of users by posting wrong notes.

Woah how come such a delicate and innocent scent got so many dislikes! Personally, I love it, it’s fresh and airy but also silky. It’s cheerful and aquatic but in no way childish. It’s suave and amazing.

Finally I found The Body Shop Oceanus again!

  49. :

I have got Sun di Gioia and a friend of mine got Air instead, I don’t like Air but boy does it smell good on her!!Very fresh and salty and kinda acquatic but also sophisticated with a touch of patchouly to ground it.
It smells so good on her I’m considering buying a small bottle for me and use when it gets hot.
It reminds me a lot of CK Reveal

  50. :

    3 out of 5

As much as I love Sun di Gioia Air I find a bit too harsh in the opening.I am not sure I like the salt and patchouly combo it does have a beachy feel but for that there are better scents around

  51. :

    4 out of 5

Not similar at all to La Pantere. For me, this is like a crossover between The Body Shop Oceanus Perfume Oil and Cacharel Eden.
It opens with a very strong, harsh, chemical, almost ammoniated note, like a bad air-freshener that made almost my nose to itch and my head to hurt. “Oh, my goodness”, thought I in horror, “how can be possible that Armani (although I am not a fan of Armani fragances at all) has released such horrid thing?” Luckily, the cheap, turn-bad air-freshener note softened in a vaguely sealike smell, with hints of fruits. I am pretty sure that the trend the next season is going to be a revival of the ozonic scents of the 90’s. It recalled me strongly a perfume oil called Oceanus, by The Body Shop, that I used very much as a teenager. The drydown, however, was drier and stronger, slightly sweet, even ambrosiaceal. It made me to think about Cacharel’s Eden. In fact, the beginning was very much like Oceanus and the final part, like Eden. It is nothing original or special, however, and I think that Armani would have done much better in stoping such launchements of more and more redundant and innecesary flankers of fragances that are already flankers, like Acqua di Gioia, or wannabees of other fragances, like Si, and in relaunching the original Armani fragances, like Armani and Giò, which were far more interesting.
Lasting power and sillage are good.

Absolutely beauty!Very very beachy smell with a depth in it.The salt with patchouli and peony is very very beautiful combo.
The opeining was for me a little bit harsh and strong but fresh. But the dry down was gorgeous, the salt was fresh the patchouli was earthy, such when you walk on the beach. For summer or spring is a real beauty.Very feminine, refreshing beauty. This is on my wishlist from now.

I can´t help myself, but the first smell was like – omg, this is Cartier La Panthere in lighter version, isn´t it? Even there is no same note. I still can´t believe it, but that was my first oppinion. I have to test it again to confirm or deny it…
