This smells kind of like midnight poison on my skin.
    Weird.

This is not your typical floral fruity scent that opens with citruses. For me, even without looking at the bottle, my first thought was the color purple. Purple fruits, plums mostly, perhaps stewed in a tiny bit of brown sugar with spice. Although no plum is mentioned, I suspect it’s the mix of the rose, berries and pomegranate that give this impression. The floral notes seem a little shy, they kind of peek out from behind a door and then hide when the amber and praline show up. They waft in and out every now and then just to let you know they’re still there. Celebrity or not, this seems very sophisticated to me, not a girly, sweety fru-fru type. The silage is decent, somewhere between moderate and high. But the longevity is awesome! I sprayed the fragrance on me around 4pm in the afternoon and could still smell it the next morning.

    Whoof!
This is very strong when it is first sprayed, and it has a lasting power that I have rarely encountered in modern perfumery. It lasted a powerful 12 hours for me, and even longer on my clothes.
    And modern it is.
This scent is clean, clear and somewhat synthetic. It also smells expensive – someone commented that I smelled like the local up-market shopping complex, and meant it as a compliment.
The top notes are floral, although not in a clearly identifiable way. Elements of rose are there, and passionfruit, and white flowers, but in a clean synthetic blend rather than in a representational or realistic way.
It does not develop in a very complex way, but rather slowly allows the floral elements to subside, eventually settling to a fruity woody musk pushed along by (I think) ambroxan.

Anyone looking for a bottle of this, I have one mostly full that I’m willing to sell..
First of all, I don’t get any of the fruits listed in this. For me the dominant feeling from start to finish is the woods and musk. Yep, some florals in there too, but they’re kind of amorphous, not really recognizable underneath the overall greenness of this frag. It borders on masculine, but doesn’t quite go there..maybe like Kat von D in that way! I don’t smell rose at all, didn’t know that was even a note of this one until reading the description just now. This one makes me feel like I wandered into a hedge and got covered in sap and leaves. I guess that’s why I tend to wear it in the fall/winter. Agree with the reviewer who said this one is for rainy days. It’s cozy and a little smoky, not at all sweet or feminine. The sillage is respectable, and the packaging was actually quite nice on this one. It doesn’t smell like anything else I’ve come across, I’ll say that much for it. Rating: B+

Personally i was expecting big things from this one because of how much i love Sinner and Saint. The bottle is absolutely beautiful!
Unfortunately for me this was really underwhelming, its nice but really nothing special. On me its very very floral with rose at the front, with a tiny just noticeable dash of fruit from the Passionfruit. I can also detect the woody notes.
Based on the notes i would have expected this to be much more sweet/fruity, but instead it’s more floral/woody on me. I don’t detect any of the Sweet/Fruity notes other than a tiny bit of Passionfruit.
It’s a nice scent, but definitely nothing amazing or original and isn’t on the same level as Sinner and Saint personally were to me.

I adore Poetica. It’s perfect for rainy days, rainy nights. It’s a warm, gooey, plummy mix that radiates distinctly and lifts my spirits. The berries and fruit are thick without a doubt, wrapped in a musky haze that scintillates and mesmerizes. This is not a sweet concoction, rather, it’s a misty fog of a perfume that will bring you back in time to shrouded capes and cobblestone streets. Woods and praline further entice your senses in a delicious blend quite unlike many of today’s offerings. Wearable year-round. I find Poetica to be my rainy-day perfume, it always fits the weather perfectly. It’s thick with rich fruits and florals, as the air is when it rains, as if you are walking through a rain-drenched thicket. It lasts well for a number of hours and radiates quite decently. The bottle is chunky and quite pretty, too. It is available on her site, along with many of her other perfumes. There seems to be an animal-like quality, a darkness to Poetica. Perhaps it’s the thickness of it, the darkness of the scent. It makes one feel empowered, sensual, and just delicious. The more I wear it, the more I delight in it.

Just got this as a blind buy from Ross. First off, the bottle is stunning. Heavy, beautiful and not at all cheap looking.
The juice inside is nice, yet uninspired. In fact, it really smells like I wiped some random magazine insert on me.
It opens up with a sharp fruit note, very similar to the opening in JLo’s L.A. Glow. Then it goes VERY floral, just a mixed bag of generic “purfumey” flowers. Nothing quite exciting, but it’s not screechy or hairspray-ish at all so that’s always a plus. It’s finally settles into a almost musky, almost praline but still very floral ending. This sits very close to the skin an doesn’t last very long at all. That being said this isn’t a bad perfume. I find it safe for everyday wear but you wouldn’t grab this one if you wanted to stand out our make an impression.
Side note- When I first tried this on, it smelled very similar to something I was familiar with. I thought I figured it out as Katy Perry’s Purr. So I put Poetica on one wrist and Purr on the other and while there is a slight similarity I can clearly smell Purr wafting off me as Poetica hides shyly in the background. Purr is much sweeter and fruiter. I Poetica is more like if JLo LA Glow and La Vie Est Belle had a one night stand that ended in disappointment.

The opening of this is like a “dark” version of the Daisy line by Marc Jacobs. Floral, but with darker berries and a more sultry feel. On me, it dries down very to a very sweet, syrupy gourmand (lots of the cherry, amber, and praline) and I unfortunately really don’t like that. I wish the floral notes stayed throughout, but they just don’t for me.

I LOVE this perfume even though I don’t like Von D herself. I bought this in two rollerball s and I’m so annoyed that I didn’t buy the whole bottle when I had the chance because they’ve discontinued it! :(((((
This is a versatile, floral scent. Perfect for any season, and it’s SO pretty. I love the sharp notes that make it stand out among the other celebrity perfumes. I definitely do not smell any fruit or gourmand out of it at all, just sharp florals. I’m obsessed. Such a sexy scent that makes me feel like a badass when I wear it.
I’m literally so upset that they’ve discontinued it, it’s one of her best perfumes. I’m really not a big fan of her other ones at all
If anyone knows of a scent that smells like poetica or even remotely similar, pleaseeeeeeee let me know. I gotta get on that!!

This is absolutely amazing. I also own Saint and Sinner, but Poetica is now my favorite. I get sweet, but not too sweet, somehow full bodied and fresh/light at the same time. It’s like a romantic woody rose/floral with a tropical, fruity, almost oceanic edge to it. It’s not terribly long lasting but also difficult to over-apply. It’s not offensive or strong, it’s just pretty right away. I’m sad that this has been discontinued but I’m going to hunt down another bottle!

Surprised. Very surprised. Extreme spice and fruit with florals that aren’t too overpowering. This scent is not for the faint of heart. I’m eager to try saint and sinner, now. It truly is a poetic fragrance.

My introduction to Poetica went like this-I was at Sephora with a gc burning a hole in my pocket. Sampled several fragrances, wasn’t too impressed by any of them. And then I picked up a bottle of Poetica and sniffed it. Well, well…I sprayed some on my arm and next thing I knew, I was standing in line to pay for full sized bottle of Poetica. It was indeed instant love.
It’s a very unique scent and I don’t think I smelled anything like this before. Its smoky and almost incensy but yet floral(and there doesn’t seem to be incense in the notes listed so go figure). I just tried BS Radiance which also has berries and tuberose but these two fragrances are polar opposites.
I really don’t get the berries and passionfruit in Poetica-its all about tuberose, amber and woods. Sweet, smoky, ambery and yet white floral. How the nose behind it accomplished it, I have no idea but its very creative and unique. This is “goth tuberose”, lol and very true to Kat Von D style. I love it and everytime I wear it, I keep sniffing my arm!
Bottle is vey stunning visually and purple is one of my favorite colors. The only negative thing that I can say that it doesn’t last as long as I expected and I see several reviewers complaining about same thing. Still, I don’t mind reapplying
P.S. After I thought about it, I was reminded of Crystal Noir by Versace. It has the same “smoky floral” feel

fruity and spicy one. berries, passion fruit, musk and patchouli. nicely put together. kind of romantic and young; it so completes the name. moderate lastage 4 hours is what I get.

Kat Von D POETICA smells a lot like several yellowish perfumes–with mimosa or mimosa-like notes. It reminds me of Jill Sander Style Pastels SOFT YELLOW, but also Benetton GIALLO and a bit of Guerlain AA TIARE MIMOSA. Also the Henri Bendel mimosa perfume.
Rose, you say? Hmmm… I’ve smelled a lot of rose perfumes, and this does appear to me to be wafting of roses at all! My best guess is that all of the rest of the notes together conspire to produce a pseudo-mimosa. Assuming that all of these notes have been constructed, it is certainly possible!
POETICA is probably my least favorite of the Kat Von D collection, mainly because it smells like so many other perfumes of which I’m not particularly fond. There is a certain yellow creaminess which some people may like a lot, but to me it’s just okay. I would not buy a full bottle (I have the rollerball which I received in the set of four).

OMG, i love it, the opening is citrusy, then it become very floral but in a good way, the lasting power is nice, the bottle really pretty!

Definetly a flowerbomb, and when it first is applied, it’s flowery in a bad way. After a while it calms down into a regular floral with bits of rose. Often what I do is use the rollerball of Poetica on my wrists, then layer with the limited edition Saint Angeles. SA really helps to control the overwhelming rose, and when they’re dried down, it’s very sexy and dark.

Fist of all, I love the packaging! The cap is gorgeous, heavy and it doesn’t look cheap in any way.
Poetica is alcoholic in the beggining, so I highly suggest to test it on the skin and never on the paper strip!! The top is fresh and citrusy. When the alcoholic part fades, it reminds me just a little bit of the top of Amor Amor from Cacharel, and I think it’s because of the combination of citrus notes (which are not listed here) and berries.
But the citrus fades after seconds and the fragrance turns darker and deeper in the heart and the base. These parts reminds me a lot of Very Irrésistible L’Intense from Givenchy but less woody; berries, rose and patchouli are all well blended, it’s dark but still charming and super sexy! And no, I can’t detect praline, and it’s not a gourmand at all. Maybe the olfactory group is just floral.
In my opinion, Poetica is one of those perfumes that you can wear in any season. Yes, the scent is dark but not heavy, so it would be amazing to wear it in the night time even in hot weather.
Poetica is an EDP, but I would say that the longevity is bad; it stays for 1~2 hours on my skin. The sillage is quite poor too, and I have to reaply it all the time. It makes me really sad because I do love the fragrance, but it’s hard to find (at least outside of US), so I don’t know if I’ll be able to purchase it again if the bottle is gone. The quality of Kat Von D’s makeup line is just amazing, specially eyeshadow palettes; Poetica could be much better for sure.
But if you like Very Irrésistible from Givenchy, definitely give it a try. It’s a pretty perfume!
Edit: Now I know! It is very very similar to Vera Wang Princess, but stronger.

Ok first of all, this is DEFIANTLY NOT a gourmand in any way shape or form. I get major flowers here!!!!Lots n lots of rose & tuberose, very nice tuberose actually, I can’t smell no cherry or berries at all , but just a tad bit tartness off the top from the passionfruit??? I can detect the dustiness of the orchid a bit, and I really am a choco perfume lover, and this , sad to say does not have it at all. I think the notes might just be posted wrong. I do however pick on some woods in the drydown. I normally dislike straight floral’s, but this is very pretty, I have not liked a pretty scent in a loooong time. Oh and this smells better when you get a wiff, not when you smell it directly on the skin, so best apply light because it last a long long time unlike the first 2 scents.
