Description

The house of Perfumer’s Workshop is launching a brand new collection for men – the Zipped Man line. The first fragrance of this collection named Zipped Premier has already arrived in online sale!

Zipped Premier was created by perfumer Pierre Negrin, who enriched energetic and sparkling top notes with lemon zest, coriander, mandarin and apple. A heart is very sexy and sensual, thanks to nutmeg, Provencal lavender and violet leaves. The composition closes with a bold and masculine base consisting of resinous amber, dark woods, tonka beans and woody musks.

’A mental image of Zipped Premier would express clean and sexy at the same time…like just-showered skin. Primal, instinctive…sometimes you see something, hear something, smell something that cuts right to the chase, pulls your strings, pushes your buttons, revs your engine. Zipped Premier is like that: it goes straight to the heart.’

Face of the campaign is American model Isaac J. Sullivan. Video was made by Josh Safdie and Alex Kalman, and photos were taken by Fabien Montique.

Zipped Premier is available as 50 and 100 ml. Zipped Premier was launched in 2011.

I received a sample of Premier from this new fragrance house and I’m a actually surprised at the quality and how pleasing it is. I’m a sucker for amber so this is right up my alley. It’s quite complex to my nose. It’s fresh and powdery, sweet and warm, while being spicy and creamy. There’s also this herbaceous quality to it.
In the opening I get a smooth/fresh citrus accord and red apple. The red apple is quite sweet and fruity but not overbearing. I detect some spicy pepper as well (most likely the coriander), much like in The One Gentleman, but not as intense and rather subdued. The top lasts a blink and it immediately transitions into the heart where a soft nutmeg meets a light lavender and violet. I also detect orange blossom but I suppose it’s the combination of florals that I’m sniffing. When that transitions into the base, a creamy amber and tonka bean musk dominate while all other notes still linger. It’s actually very well balanced. Imagine Diesel Only the Brave meets Burberry Touch. Or Geir Ness meets Fahrenheit 32. Actually, I’d even say it’s a lighter version of Fahrenheit 32. It’s a powdery, fruity, floral that is warm and spicy in nature but has so much more character to describe. It’s not too masculine and can easily be unisex. Regardless, it is very nice and well constructed. I cannot wait to purchase a bottle soon. Bravo!
In terms of longevity and sillage, this stuff is well above average. I’m sold!

On seeing the PR for this (and accompanying notelist) with its sensationalzed terms like “resinous” amber and remarks like BOLD, SEXY and ENERGETIC, I thought “Oh BOY here we go again…” What did greet my nose after the single use sample wipe was opened, by my friend Anup, and wiped on my inner arm was actually rather pleasant.
The opening (called an “energetic sparkle” on the card) was actually more zesty, yet citric, and fresh with juicy apples and warm corriander. For a moment, I was reminded of an Alfred Dunhill scent (Desire, mayhaps?). It quickly morphed into a (“sexy sensual” from PR) heart of warm dry masculine florals, smooth spiciness and sharp greens. A rather elegant, but none too “loud” suaveness emerged under the fruity fresh opening and was charming and seductive at the same time. The (“big bold masculine”) drydown *sighs* is gorgeous (despite the obviously synthetic ingredients) WOODY, warmly sweet and musky. The overall tone of this fragrance is sort of “everywhere”…but once it dries completely; it is a thing of beauty, not unlike the “face” for this scent. It is sexy, raw, fun and intriguing…and with the 25% off e-coupon discount code enclosed with the sample-it may actually be worth getting a bottle of it! Something good for first dates, cool summer nights and warm fall days; ZIPPED Premier may be a “bit” too sexy for the office (unless you are looking for some “action” at work…), but for a casual night out or semi-dressed up event, this would work well. Sexy, but not too “raw”…elegant, but not “poofy” and (most importantly) sexy, smooth and somewhat “dark”. This is neither “noir” nor “nuit”, and it never really shouts. It actually surprised me…how good it is.
    Sillage: okay
    Longevity: impressive
    Overall: 3.5/5
I am SOOO glad that Perfumer’s Workshop got away from the whole SAMBA thing, and did something new. I love the commercial where the guy is getting ready to go and throws on jeans (over tight underwear), a shirt and hoodie (kagool) and goes out with a spray or two of PREMIER on…not too much, just enough to wear IT and not have it WEAR him. The whole campaign “works” with the actual scent and I am tipping my hat to PW for this one!
