“The olfactory memories of my days spent on the sea-shore in Forte, carefree days in a celebration of fragrances. Sweet memories of picnics, of the scent of the coconut and fresh fruit. These come slowly back to mind, mingling with the smells of the sun and the sea…” — press release of the brand.

Vittoria Apuana was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Maria Candida Gentile.

Vittoria Apuana’s opening is SO GREAT, I was ready to buy a bottle online right then and there. It smells like a deliciously tart and juicy orange/banana/coconut/vanilla smoothie. But this heavenly stage lasts 0.00002 seconds, until it is replaced by tiare coconut sunscreen, retro pink bubble gum, waxy vanilla, and the faintest hint of banana and orange. Pleasant and sweet, but slightly bland. I’ve tried this scent many times and can never get the glorious top notes to stick around. Low longevity and sillage. The topnotes are a love, but the actual scent and it’s projection get a “meh” from me.

This smells like Banana Boat tanning oil gone wrong. The overall composition smells unpleasant. I detect an artificial banana note that is accompanied by some stale garbage wafting in the background. This fragrance is flat and the coconut is only slightly detectable. You’d be better off just buying your favorite suntan lotion from the drugstore for a fraction of the price.

Upon applying, this smells like a smoothie from Orange Julius. That dies off after about twenty minutes and the banana note came forward in a very creamy, pudding like way. Underneath was a coconut and vanilla smell, almost like I was wearing sunscreen. The bright, fruity, summery scent of Vittoria Apuana makes it a wonderful choice for a beach vacation.

As others have mentioned, this fragrance opens with a blast of citrus-orange and quickly turns into banana taffy/pudding with coconut sprinkles tossed in. This scent later becomes a very nice, but not unfamiliar, vanilla with faint hints of coconut in the background. In a nutshell: orange-citrus followed by banana taffy followed by vanilla-coconut. That’s how I smell it.
Overall, Vittoria Apuana (VA) is very nice Summer scent (with a heavy emphasis on the word Summer) and I really like it. To me, it’s not really my cup-of-tea as I am going to reach for more masculine favorites such as Aqua Fahrenheit, Aventus, Green Irish Tweed, Dior Homme Sport, Allure Homme Sport, etc.
I am also not a huge Virgin Island Water (VIR) fan (another quality perfume and love the scent…on the ladies) but I would wear VIR over VA in a heartbeat. Anyway, the females in my house will love this one – I’m sure. Definitely a more feminine fragrance in-my-opinion. Is it worth the money? Not to me when VIR is a much better value on the discount fragrance market. Of course, the same argument can be made about St. Barts…so you be the judge of your wallet or pocketbook.

I really wanted to love this – all the notes are what I like. But it does smell like bread and ripe banana peels that are sitting in the garbage. Glad I only got the sample.

    Banana & citrus coconut.
Banana, oranges, coconut, vanilla, and tiare. Quite soft and close to skin.
It is very alluring if you are into having an intimacy evening with someone you love. Very cuddly and quite captivating.

This really smells like banana laffy taffy. It does last for 4-6 hours which is enough for me. Not cloying or strong just the right amount of potency.

Well, if you’re on the lookout for a Hawaiian Tropic scent, look no further. I can’t believe how similar this is. The first 15 minutes you clearly detect the banana note and it smells really fruity (I love this aspect of the fragrance the most), when it dries down you get this scent that is so reminiscent of suntan lotion. It doesn’t smell like suntan lotion straight out of the bottle, but it smells like suntan lotion on sun kissed skin, like you’ve been on the beach all day and the warmth radiates of your body. After a few hours you get that ambery note, and it almost smells a bit like burned coconut. Personally I think this fragrance has a kind of dirtiness to it, and I’m not sure yet if I like it or not. The sillage isn’t great, to me it feels like more of a skin scent. The longevity though, is very good. I can still smell this on my skin after I’ve showered. To me this is clearly a summer fragrance. I shower myself in this, close my eyes and pretend that I am on a beautiful beach far away.

I dont know but to me sadly this smelled like dusty bread. The way dry down smelled like cream but it still smelled dusty. I didnt like it at all. still on a quest to find a delicious banana perfume.
I hope vanille banane smells better.

I got this after much discussion with Marissaluvsscents (thank you!!). I did try a decant from Hungary, but it was broken when it arrived. The envelope smelled heavenly so I got a FB a few days ago. This is almost an exact copy of the Hawaiian Tropics suntan oil scent from my youth. I absolutely love it. Buttery/creamy coconut and banana. It screams ‘beachy’. Being in south Florida, I can easily imagine wearing this year round. It has fair sillage and longevity with modest application. I like my scents a little more powerful, so I’m finding it needs a bit more generous application. This is my new favorite. 🙂

Hawaiian Tropics oil, bottled. My holy grail. Wish it lasted a tiny longer, but no other beachy scents (out of the hundreds I’ve tried) nail my favorite tanning oil, like this!

    OMG.love at first sniff
This is the first perfume with dominant banana that I’m trying and it’s very delicious
It opens very fruity with orange, banana and coconut,I feel I can smell some apricot too, while fruity notes linger as it dries down,it becomes sweeter and creamy with more vanilla and amber.I like it more in the opening, although drydown is sweeter and yummier it’s very familiar to me.maybe smells like a specific dessert or a body lotion that I can’t put my finger on it now
It’s the first time I’m experiencing such a scent in a perfume and if it was a cheap celeb scent I’d run to buy it but as an expensive perfume I don’t think so.although I like it very much I can’t wear it usually,so it’s something I will rarely crave.I wish it had 30mil bottles too
Longevity and sillage are both amazing.it’s delicious, exotic, bright, sunny, happy.definetely a summer fragrance but I think it’s wearable year round because it’s warm and sweet and creamy so it can mimic a happy sunny summer day even in dark and cold winters
    ❤❤❤❤

The banana is quite weird and I get a gourmand smell + rotten fruits smell..

I am stunned that I cannot like this after repeated attempts. After the top notes degrade, rather quickly, it degrades to a synthetic plastic smell.

I love bananas! For me this is all about banana and coconut. Maybe a little vanilla. I don’t get much floral, but the banana/coconut are sitting side by side of each other on my wrist and it is very delicious…a while later it gets fluffy soft powdery. I would almost swear there was whipped creme in this…but either way I love it. It’s like a piece of coconut banana creme pie with a dusting of powder. Very feminine, soft. It’s a gorgeous Summer scent…this is happiness in a bottle! I Can also picture myself sitting at some resort drinking a coconut banana cocktail served up with a generous dose of whipped creme…
After more wearings I am getting a little more of the floral vibe with the tiare…i agree with butterbean that it’s more of a monoi type of floral…it just makes me smile everytime I put it on! Love it!
There is a lovely fresh sweet mandarin at the beginning that’s fleeting, and then this is all about bright, ripe sweet bananas mingling in the background with that beautiful monoi accord and coconut…
    A sprinkling of the Caribbean…

Skin chemistry has alot to do with this fragrance. I absolutely love this stuff. It starts off very sweet and all dried banana chips. After 10 minutes i smell coconut and tiare flower. 30 minutes later it has the sun tan lotion smell and finnaly an hour in i swear it smells like a more tropical Michael kors! It has the same juicy fruit gum smell, a little banana nuance, and tiare. I think it’s one of the best summer perfumes I’ve come across. Sillage is moderate, longevity 5 to 6 hours. Delicious!

Coconut, banana, and plastic to the max! It’s nice but I couldn’t wear something like this.

  18. :

    4 out of 5

First spray gives a hint of mandarin and banana chips. After that it quickly settles into a full-on suntan lotion smell! Its exactly that.. don’t detect a coconut vibe atm but maybe that will change in a longer session. But if you are looking for that classic suntain smell.. this is it!
Edit: Longevity / Sillage is really bad on me! Too bad 🙁

“If you like piña colada…” you might like this perfume cuz it smells like one. Creamy banana and coconut. The banana was not a fresh or green one; instead it smelled like dehydrated banana chips. There is a touch of orange in the first few minutes too, so that gives the illusion of a little pineapple. It does have the overall aura of coconut tanning lotion and tropical getaways. In the drydown I get some synthetic amber that bothers me, but other than that, this is a great perfume. The emphasis here is on creamy. I did not get anything floral or fresh on my skin, a fact that I really enjoyed. Super-gourmand, just imagine the waiter handing that goblet to you, filled with that creamy, frothy, yellow-white drink.

When I first tested this it smelled just like the bright pink chewing gum we had in Hong Kong. American chewing gum. Uncanny!
That put me right off but experience has taught me you need to test at least three times.
The 2nd time was all about bananas, alcohol and coconuts. A very sweet artifical smell. I guess a slight improvement!
The 3rd time it was all coconut, banana and tiare. This citrus might have been present but they were overpowered by the first three.
A reasonable summer fragrance but gosh so sweet. I will stick with FCUK Friction. Far less expensive and much more pleasant summer fragrance with similar notes to boot.

The opening is definetly VERY bubblegum. It reminds me of my childhood, and it is kind of cute, but I’m not really looking for that note in perfumes.
After a while it dries down to a very simplistic and standard coconut scent, reminds me of coconut body butter. I also get a very light touch of tiare flower, other than that, I only get coconut in the drydown.

This was a long anticipated test for me. Having vanille coco by CSP as my signature this one was pointed out to me quite a bit. I also enjoy a vanille banane CSP type oil, although not quite as much as vanille coco.
This opens with a banana laffy taffy note or bubble gum to some people (although I really think of my favorite flavor of laffy taffy). The banana laffy taffy gradually gets more orangey. You’d think the smell order would be opposite with the way the note pyramid is, but it didn’t work that way I guess. This fruity combination lasts an intense 30 minutes on me. Eh, it’s a bit longer than I’d like. The orange-banana laffy taffy smell is amusing but something I’d rather not smell like more than 5-10 minutes.
The dry down reminds me of a fruity suntan lotion of terra cotta by guerlain.
This is nice but it wasn’t the miracle in a bottle I was hoping it would be for me, I guess I had huge expectations. I prefer vanille coco which is much, much, creamier. Infact, I think this probably more similar to vanille banane, but I can seem a bit of comparison to vanille coco. Still this was a worthwhile try!

So, a few years ago, someone passed me, and I could smell this lovely coconutty, summery scent. It took me to places I’ve never even visited! Ever since, I was looking out for a perfume which smelled like that –
and now I’ve found it! It opens with a kind of sweet bubblegum banana, but dries down to a super sensual and warm coconut scent. It’s fresh, it’s sweet and it’s warm. It’s simply summer in a bottle!
It’s also such an unique scent (I had a tester and went to a perfumery looking for a similar more main stream one – the store where I could buy the “original” was sold out – and nothing could compare!). Luckily I got my hands on a bottle, and I couldn’t be happier!
I have finally found “my” summer perfume!

    UPMARKET SPF 8
You can’t get away from the suntan lotion references when you have a fragrance with such a pronounced coconut and vanilla combo.
And you can’t get away from the beachy/summer connection.
But if you enjoy a tropical coconut summer fragrance and want something that has a bit of elegance, then sample this.
The coconut is front and center for most of its longevity. The banana made an appearance about 15 minutes in – and lasted a good while.
Vanilla is the dominant note with a hint of coconut towards the end. Sweet, but not cloying.
Although this is made for women, and is on the feminine side, I was not at all uncomfortable wearing this. Creed’s VIW does lean more unisex, however.
I won’t buy the bottle – but I’ll definitely use up my sample this summer.

Viva la banana! A very fruity gourmond concoction that smells a bit synthetic to be honest. It’s mostly banana, coconut and a soft tiare on me. No orange is to be found on my skin. I’d give it an 8 for fun, but I wouldn’t spend for a full bottle of it. If you like tropical fruitiness though, definitely get yourself a sample!

    O M G! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
Tropical Delicious Banana Coconut Milkshake with a splash of Orange and Sun.
The scent opens with fresh orange juice, not peel not zest – sweet juice.
Banana steps forward, and it becomes the most delicious very creamy banana coconut scent with hints of orange, and tiare. The floral is more monoi scent, where the tiare is a creamy floral coconut mix.
Sweet and delicious – makes you crave a coconut banana shake and to drink it in the tropical sun!
did I say? I LOVE IT!! Really great scent!
Longevity 9 hours or longer! Some days I get 12 or more hours wear out of this.
Sillage – on me, it sits closer.
btw – for you bottle nuts – the bottle and presentation are really nice!! Beautifully packaged.

This is a blast of orange peel oil and banana for the first few minutes. Then a bit of coconut comes in, but only a bit. You still have the orange, but the banana gets a bit stronger. It dries down to a beautiful vanilla scent. Not worth the price tag, only because the drydown, while very pretty, is not as unique and sunscreen-y as I would have liked.
    4/5 for appeal.
    3/5 for sillage.
    3.5/5 for longevity.

  28. :

    3 out of 5

It reminded me a bit of banana flavored taffy for a while then dried down to the tan/screen lotion scent others have mentioned below. It’s a nice scent, but I cannot really imagine many wanting to smell like this outside of the beach. It’s a “Like” but “Pass” in my book.

  29. :

    5 out of 5

This is soooo like Hawaiian Tropic oil. I get the exotic and the banana and coconut and tiare. However, I also get the plastic bottle. It’s not going to be a keeper for me I’m afraid.

  30. :

    3 out of 5

Rich, creamy and good quality coconut, banana and vanilla. This is one of the best tropical scents ever. I’m not a huge fan of fruity gourmand scents but Vittoria Apuana is impossible to resist. And the lasting power om me is 9 hours, what more to requite from a fragrance?

  31. :

    5 out of 5

I’m sure our sense of smell is powerfully conditioned by our olfactory experiences and early life imprintings.
Therefore it’s no wonder for me if, contrary to the almost universal consensus on the positive qualities of this fragrance, I really don’t like it.
Two things come to my mind via my nose when I smell this (either sniffing my wrist or just taking a whiff from its sillage): the overly sweet Colgate Banana toothpaste I had as a kid (I loved it, it had a plastic banana on the base that turned on a small red pole and I felt it was my most beautiful possession) and a cloying, suffocating Arbre Magique that some friends of mine used to have in their cars in the Nineties.
As for an objective description of the fragrance: I get bananas, vanilla and coconut in equal parts. Some tiaré emerge now and then as whiffs come on at times. The overly sweet result of this cocktail reminds me of something waxy and un-perfumey. It doesn’t remind me of a tropical beach, as I’d love, but rather as a nondescript note that producers add to their home products.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

I get the suntan lotion comparison but seriously, this is a lovely concoction of coconuts, banana and vanilla on my skin. It is just an awesone treat to my nose that longs for the smell of summer, sun and beach. It is definitely gourmand and tropically sweet. The soft cloud this frag lasts very long. It quite reminds m of Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent 2013, but Vittoria Apuana has more vibrant and clearer take on the coconut note.
    My Rate: 8/10

  33. :

    4 out of 5

Luscious but you’ve got to love coconut. It reminds me a tad of suntan lotion (for obvious reasons) but smells so very rich. It is surprisingly cozy and I’d say it’d make a dandy sweater scent for winter.

  34. :

    5 out of 5

To compare this fragrance to suntan lotion really is to do it a huge injustice. Certainly it is summery and fruity, but the similarity ends right there. Luscious bannana, mandarine, coconut and vanilla combine to create a gourmand lover’s delight – gorgeous!. It really is unique and is a must have fragrance for the summer months. Just get hold of a sample and make your own mind up.

Oh my goodness! This is the scent that started it all. When I first received a sample of this perfume, I fell in love. I am a cheapster so I searched for a similar scent and could not find one. I finally made the buy and I love it! Smells like I am lying in Hapuna Beach on the Big Island, feeling the sun toast my skin, the warm sand under my towel and my kids and hubby nearby playing in the sea. One of my fave moments. I smell coconut, banana, pineapple, a little nautical touch and on the dry down, coconut warmth but not gourmand just lying under a coconut palm scent. It’s fabulous! Definitely smells like suntan lotion. It’s lasting power on me was about 7 hours, siliage is ok. Not a work scent, just doesn’t match. Love, love, love! I wish the bottle were more indicative of the treasure it stores inside. Reminds me of the bible verse that says we are just vessels but in us lies the Holy Spirit. The outside shows no merit of the glory within.

To those looking for a a scent that smells like Hawaiian Tropics oil, THIS IS IT
I´ve tried every perfume thats supposed to smell like HT: Beach, Fire Island, Bronze Goddess, Tahitian Holiday, Monoi des Vahines, Aloha Tiare, 1966 and so on. Let me tell you, they dont hold a candle to Vittoria Apuana. Don´t waste your money like I did buying all those. Get VA instead.
I smell the citrus in the begining, but this note doesn´t linger for too long. Next is the banana and the coconut. The drydown is all tiare amber and vanilla on me. As the day goes by it starts to smell more floral and complex than the initial blast, still retaining the tropical vibe.
Lasting power is very good on me, around 6 hours.

  37. :

    5 out of 5

Sadly, I only really get the coconut later when it settles down – on me, it opens harshly, and it’s too green rather than sweet. I can’t figure out what note it is, maybe the bitter orange? but it doesn’t warm up on my skin for a while. I heard great things about this fragrance, and I’m always looking for a good coconut scent in the summertime. This one just doesn’t cut it for me.

  38. :

    3 out of 5

In all honesty, this smells very much like a lovely bottle of tanning oil. I happen to like the smell of tanning oil so I was able to enjoy my sample, but a sample was all I needed. It’ll definitely transport you to a hot sun drenched day on the beach with one whiff -if Hawiian Tropic is what reminds you of a hot sunny day at the beach 🙂 Seriously. I smell tiare, banana, and coconut all at once, and that does not seem change much through the wear. This is mostly a skin scent with the occasional detectable waft, and is not terribly long lasting. It is quite expensive considering you could be wearing something quite simliar for around 10 bucks. It is breezy, pleasant, and very beachy though.

  39. :

    5 out of 5

Opens with an intensely sweet coconut on me, I get absolutely none of the orange topnotes. A caramelized banana is also there with a very soft tiare in the background.
