Fragrance Review For Versailles JoAnne Bassett
Top Notes Neroli Lime Tangerine
Middle Notes Ylang Ylang Pink Pepper
Base Notes: Cinnamon Patchouli Benzoin Incense
Versailles is a beautiful unisex citrus aromatic fragrance. I have Marie Antoinette and still using it as my home aroma therapy. JB’s Marie Antoinette is more floral but this is lacking in the flowery scents as I can only pick up on the scent of ylang. It’s a big yellow flower scent and rather like a soliflore but layered with citrus. The citrus dominates this scent giving it that men’s after shave smell, a citrusy freshness and deliciousness. It’s neroli till Tuesday. There’s also lime juice and a tart tangerine. The citrusy floral scent wears throughout the longer part of the fragrance. In the end as it dries down, it’s an incense. It’s smoky and spicy (with that cinnamon) and I love this part of the scent the best. It’s not terribly smoky because the citrus has freshened it. It’s great for summer and to wear when you’re at the beach. It’s a tad reminiscent of Shalimar or Emeraude. I can see this as a fragrance being worn by the same guy who appreciates citrusy florals (with bigger citrus than floral aspects like Eau de Gaga). This is very enjoyable very easy to wear whether you’re male or female.

This was a bit odd on me-there was a definite fresh clean-green opening, and the citrus aspect became stronger as time went by, not reducing which normally happens with citrus notes on me. The neroli adds a definite hint of sweetness so its not a crisp lemon tart citrus, its a smooth creamy souffle. The spice was a definite presence but it added warmth rather than a spice bomb note. Unfortunately as it dried down the patchouli took over and I’m not a great fan of that. All in all, this is a good fragrance, beautifully smooth and so far has lasted 7 hours on me (on a warm and dry late summer day). I initially thought this was a day time fragrance-the light citrus notes would support that, but the drawn out dry down is more evening wear towards the end.

I’ll be surprised if this isn’t my favorite from this line. I applied a dab earlier today, then sat in the hot tub followed by a shower; and the scent was still lingering so I reapplied.
Out of the gate I thought ‘room freshener’, but give it some time and this becomes a mature green floral. Ooh, yummy. There is the slightest kiss of edgy here (pink pepper?) and a sprinkle of cinnamon, but again, nothing so strong that I find it off putting. This is wearing ‘clean and fresh’ on me, which tends to be an aspect of patchouli, and a green vibe rings throughout. Unlike Doc I’m getting impressive longevity for a natural scent, and at no time does it go stale.
I”m liking this one. It’s a well done, green woody floral. Mmm!
