Venus Amber by JoAnne Bassett Parfum Extrait (New) Review (Sample) this is classified as an Oriental Woody, the notes are Vanilla, Benzoin, Ambrette (musk mallow),Olibanum, Cedar, Labdanum, Palisander, Rosewood, Sage, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Bergamot, Blood Orange, Lemon Yuzu, Jasmine and Rose.
I get the Vanilla, Benzoin, Labdanum, Cardamom, Cinnamon and Olibanum, it starts off with some labdanum and cardamom making it dry, resinous and leathery, the labdanum is strong, the cardamom is mild. their is also a very soft bay rum note in the opening that lasts about twenty minutes.
Then after about twenty minutes the cardamom dissipates the labdanum softens and remains, in comes the vanilla and olibanum, making it sweet, powdery and aromatic, the vanilla is strong, the olibanum is mild.
Then after about two hours the labdanum dissipates, the olibanum softens and remains in comes the benzoin and cinnamon, making it woody, syrupy and spicy, the benzoin and cinnamon are mild.
Venus Amber reminds me of Parfum d’Empire’s Ambre Russe and Histoires des Parfums Ambre 114. Ambre Russe comes off boozy and animalic, 114 is spicier with an added patchouli note, they all have similar spicy, amber and vanilla notes.
What I love about Venus Amber is it starts off with a vintage, classic smell with the bay rum note, then it changes into a very pretty modern day Amber fragrance.
Venus amber is a very bright, soft, rich, with soft citric and musky undertones Oriental Woody fragrance, this is unisex and perfect for ages twenty five and above.
This can be worn all year ’round, it would be perfect for the fall and winter, I get good projection and average longevity, this is a really lovely amber fragrance JoAnne. 4/5 Stars.
You can purchase this in a 1ML sample for $6.00, 5ML Travel Spray for $30.00, 30ML $170.00 and a 1/4oz in a French Flacon for $200.00

I doesn’t feel to me like an amber from another world, but it’s a very well crafted one. It feels natural, and hot on my skin and it’s one of the few JoAnne fragrances where the citruses doesn’t show up at the opening on my skin. I get at first the smoky and what it feels to me like a dry facet of labdanum aroma. Then the cinnamon creates a spicy aura which is quickly follow by a twist on the amber idea which favors more a benjoin and musky impression. There is something flowerish between them, but it didn’t bloomed under the 10 Celcius temperature of my test today. As the times goes by the musky, skin-like aspect of the fragrance is what i get the most, and it seems connected to me with her Extender product, and i suspect that it’ll work perfect on this creation from her specifically. I like how this amber is difficult, but not that difficult, it doesn’t stay too dry, too hot, too smoky and it’s not linear as a lot of amber fragrances tend to be.
