Description

“Mysterious and elegant, this fragrance evokes the pure indulgence of a soft texture meeting bare skin. Its woody oriental blend is infused with roasted almond, rose petals and black amber.

Commodity Velvet is part of the Black Collection which includes dark, moody and intense fragrances for him, for her and for you.” – a note from the brand.

“I love working with rose. It is simultaneously dewy fresh and petally soft. For Commodity Velvet, I was inspired by the image of vibrant pink Turkish Rose Petals floating gently over a mysterious, dark background of richly warm vanilla and black amber with a delicious touch of roasted almond drifting in the air.” – Jerome Epinette, Master Perfumer.

Velvet was launched in 2018.

Roasted almond, rose petals and black amber which dries down to something like patchouli but better on my skin. Unisex, sophisticated, beautiful on a cold night.

This is a warm and soothing dark fragrance. A very well put together fragrance, perfect for those cool fall, cold winter days and nights.

This is my first time wearing a Commodity fragrance and it was recommended to me since I fell in love with By the Fireplace by Maison Martin Margiela. The first few minutes I was in agreement, then the fragrance turned south on me. That’s when a little too much of a low grade vanilla took over and it went from beautiful to a too sweet skin scent in an hour.
My sample still has enough for another wearing. It could be better in cooler conditions. If my mind changes I will update.

Really complex and interesting on the opening but thirty minutes later it smells like cotton candy. Perfectly pleasant but not unique. Wears close to the skin.

This reminds me of incense at church.

Off the rip off the first spray the clove shows up with heliotrope and almond. Within 15 minutes the rose and vanilla shows itself. I’m really loving this scent it’s not loud. It’s a scent that reminds me of Margielas by the fire place and I would prefer commodity’s Velvet over it because it’s a bit more complex than by the fireplace but longevity wise the latter is much more powerful.

Finally, the holy alliance of heliotrope and almond done in an assumed way. Exclusive at Sephora if im correct.
Add to that wonderful mix of heliotrope and almonds a good deal of vanilla, cloves, wood. You get that warm scent, designed for colder seasons. It’s just incredibly smooth, exactly like velvet. Commodity tends to name their fragrances very simply and this one is right on point. You will get some rose, unisex rose, for him and her. But I haven’t smell the coconut nectar.
All in all, it’s a long lasting fragrance, simply warm and pleasing to the mind. You could stop a fight between two people just by wearing this. I swear, this is comforting, a bit sweet because of the vanilla but not too much. In fact, everything is well balanced in this fragrance and it doesnt feel cheap. The scent just finds the right balance between being loud, dark, but also smooth and relaxing. I was confident wearing this. No sharp edges, just a big, bold cloud of dizzying darkness.
If you are a fan of heliotrope and almonds just like me, then you should try Velvet. You would be surprised how strong it is and long-lasting. But most importantly, it smells so damn good.
    Thanks for reading my review!

I recently purchased this fragrance… all I can say is that it is very nice. It reminds me a little bit of Fucking Fabulous and Bois Doré.
I’m a sucker for soft, sweet and powdery/smoky scents. And this one is no exception.
It truly evokes a velvety feel. The rose is very soft, and doesn’t stand out to me at all. It is all well blended, but every ingredient seems relevant.
I really like how almond has been almost re-introduced to mainstrem scents. It, along with the coconut, intertwine masterfully to produce this roasted accord. It is heavenly. I can’t imagine what a little bit of coffee thrown in could have done with the composition.
This will become one of the most beloved scents by Commodity in future years. Mark my words.
Overall, this is a very strong release.
    9/10
