Description

Perfume Gold, as indicated by the name, brings the glamour and sophistication with its floral oriental composition. It wad launched in 2002 thanks to Antoine Lie and Cecile Matton.
Inspired by discreet haute couture elegance of the famous house of Valentino, the bottle of this perfume is made out of rectangle shaped crystal and is very luxurious.
It opens with flashy notes of mandarin orange, cardamom and lime with a touch of a juicy peach; dries down through the heart of water lily, cranberry and cinnamon, to the base of cedar and sandalwood with accords of blue iris and light musk. To start with it is a bit cheap smelling. Very green, reminds me a lot of Avon’s Little Black Dress. Then an overly spicy note takes over that I find a little unpleasant. After that, the spice dies down, and again an unpleasant transition takes place- I think it might be the cranberry. It then dries down to a reasonably pleasant (and quite familiar but I can’t place it) floral musk. I am not overly fond of this fragrance. The sillage and longevity are distinctly unimpressive also.
Ah yes! I know why the floral/musk/wood-combo dry down is familiar. It smells like sunscreen!
I have a miniature. It has about a mL taken from it, anyone who wants it is welcome. I imagine it would appeal much more to someone else.

I’ve been working with this perfume for a few days now so that I can get a real feel for the fragrance.
I am not a fan of the modern Valentino perfumes, to me they are wonderful bottles but meh fragrance. This is different to my nose, it’s a much more refined and classic scent.
The initial spritz is a cacophony of fruit and citrusy notes but I think that the cardamom dominates my olfactory senses in the opening.
The heart is exceedingly delicate, almost aquatic without any saltiness at all and it is delicately sweetened with accords of cinnamon. The cinnamon isn’t domineering like that in Cinnabar or Jungle L’Elephant, but it adds a gentle spiciness to the composition making it almost sultry.
The heart of this perfume is most definitely a delicious woody forest in spring with flowers along the way.
In summing up this perfume I would say that it is an extremely delicate and gentle olfactory experience which is outstandingly classy and complicated. It is neither sweet nor savoury, but retains a mysterious quality of addictive and delicious fruit and florals. Never gourmand, never a floral in its own right, this classic beauty retains an air of regality and sensuousness throughout and gets better with heat and time.

I have got it. Personally I find it first of all very refreshing, but in a elegant way, floral, a bit green. I hadn’t got any problem about its longevity. After 12 hours I can smell its dry down again. Maybe it isn’t so great in projection but it lasts all day.

Un profumo molto piacevole da indossare non comune nè banale ma raffinato e di classe. Peccato che non lo producano più!

Those negative reiews below frustrate me till the point of anger.
Surely they were not talking about sensual deep emotional luxurious Valentino Gold, where every note lingers into another one, where all is so perfectO
Or maybe Valentino Gold chooses whom to deny in his beauty
Lime blends into water lilies and ginger, cardamom follows iris and cinnamon, waves by waves ..I physically feel how fragrance builds its own space like aura around me, its pure amazing seduction, I never thought such thing is possible. I Am in heaven when I wear this perfume, unique in its soft spices, so unusual, so unforgettable. Golden laces of grace
I like other Valentino Perfumes, but I Am fine without them. I can not imagine that day when I will not have Valentino Gold.

I had high hopes for this one, so I ordered a sample off scented monkey. It smells NOTHING like I thought it would. I thought it was goin to smell alot more like the cranberry, bergamot notes & warm but it smells so weird, spicy, herbal & cold, (nothing like gold at all) but in a more masculine way to me. I think this should be considered a unisex frag. & definitely should cost less $.

This was limey dishwashing liquid on me quite a letdown as I love the original Valentino, Vendetta and Very Valentino whcih was also quite wearable.

My first and last blind purchase – Bingo!
I still keep it and wear only on big occasions, like to the opera or a refined restaurant.
The secret is to spray the clothes massively the previous evening, add a small spritz on leaving the house the next day and forget the bottle at home.
As a result I get a very rich aristocratic lasting scent, a little bitter, with a very deep sensual feeling.

5 words from me: No no no no and no.
Seems a bit rude but I will have a headache every time I smell it.

I really like this one, but its not longlasting on my skin. I have this beautiful scent around me for an hour – then its gone, sadly. If you come across it – try it – its a nice warm and sensual scent.

For me, is a nice perfume, and that´s it….I´m agree with NathalieZ that it evaporates in a flash….and it smells floral and sweet for my taste…..

I agree with sassy1–don’t smell it as soon as you spray or else you’ll get blasted by alcohol. Once it has settled on your skin it smells slightly spicy, but not heavy like a lot of orientals. The name is apt–it makes me feel like I have a light dusting of gold glitter on my skin.

VALENTINO GOLD opens auspiciously, along the lines of BULGARI POUR FEMME, with a waft of benzoin lusciosity. Unfortunately, however, rather than developing to a beautiful, lasting floral drydown, VALENTINO GOLD simply dwindles away. I reapplied the edp three times over the course of the day, with the same result. The notes after the opening are so faint as to defy detection after an hour or so.
The notes that emerge immediately after the opening are a light ginger and pepper, with hardly any floral at all. But the spices are really very light, leading me to think that they may have been aiming for some sort of skin scent. What I find, at the end, is no scent at all! Désolée.

I like this one very much, but I would suggest you wait 5 seconds after applying before you sniff or you may get a noseful of alchohol like I did.
I’m glad I didn’t let it deter me, because this scent is lovely. Fresh and slightly peppery, just a touch of ginger and floral with a simply divine dry down. I don’t get the cinammon, but the iris and musk are very pretty. I think it’s more of a formal scent, meant for the evening but would be nice on a cold winter day as well.

Real classic. Bought 50ml in TKmaxx for £9.99 a couple of years ago….bargain. A very rich, elegant, distinctive and solid scent. Great lasting power. Not girly but very sophisticated. Unfortunately, I associate it with a bad experience so no longer wear it but would definately recommend. Beautiful.

Very classic warm smell, I love valentinos perfumes. His fragrances are so classy and elegant and most are so different from other perfumes out today. I recommend this to anyone that wants something unique, different and elegant.

This is one of the best perfumed I ever smell. Bought it on impuls, and don’t regret it. Pity I can’t find such beautiful combination of citruses, spices and woods with little flowery scent more often. Someone should make such perfume a constant item in their range of fragrances. I would buy them out!!!

I absolutely adore Valentino Gold. From what I remember it’s light and fresh and the word crisp comes to mind. I’m noticing a lot of citrus in the description however it definitely does not smell like fruit. I love this perfume, been through 2 bottles already since in 04 and as soon as i find it I’ll be on my 3rd. Not a lot of people or places seem to be familiar with this one. Definitely one of those scents you keep a secret.

Valentino Gold is a lovely perfume and expensive smelling! It doesn’t smell like every other perfume out there and is elegant and classy. It’s feminine without being too flowery and sweet, and is also quite fresh smelling, probably because of the lime note in it.
It’s a perfume which can be worn anytime, for daytime or evening wear and by any age group. I can highly recommend this perfume – it’s so nice!
