Description

“The Illuminum collection is for those days when you are in the mood for something exquisitely simple and stylish.”—Michael Boadi. The collection embraces 16 fragrances categorized in four olfactory groups (citrus, floral, oud and musk). Each group consists of four scents, while each of the fragrances contains eight carefully selected ingredients.

Tribal Black Tea contains notes of orange, black tea, bergamot, cardamom, incense and amber wood.

It is available in bottles of 50 and 100 ml.

In addition to creating the composition, Michael Boadi designed all the packaging as well as the logo and the branding.

Tribal Black Tea was launched in 2011.

I love this Illuminum Black Tribal Tea perfume! I was lucky to find it for sale on Barneys NY website and blind bought it with Bergamot Blossom perfume. Both arrived today early by Federal Express so I sprayed them on each wrist to test.
Unfortunately longevity was barely 4 hours for this tea perfume with no trail it is skin scent on me. The beautiful sweetened black tea with lemon scent makes it worth it to keep. Ironically the bergamot blossom scent is still going strong after 6 hours! I reapplied the tea scent since I really love it! Arizona is still hot in October so this perfume may last longer in cold weather it is perfect for fall!

Like sipping a good aromatic Earl grey with lemon and touch of honey. Sadly the bergamot citrus lasts about that long too (though the black tea and cardamon stays on a dry down basis)

Opens with a large and loud magnolia floral note. Mixed with citruses (mainly lemon). I barely got any trace of sweetness in the beginning and more notably, barely any black tea!
The tea then slowly begins to meekly creep in, very watered and still overwhelmed by the huge magnolia and overall the scent remains more ‘green’ than ‘black’.
The amber here makes the tea/spices notes sweeter and denser only after a few hours in and there is a lingering touch of synthetic iso-E super that becomes a little annoying after a while especially alongside the loud floral – unnaturally sparkly. But there’s just to little of any of the orientals.
I really love tea notes but so far my experiences of it have unfortunately been in Bulgvari Soir and Gucci 2 homme. While the Gucci was very nice, it’s as weak as people say and the bulgvari is weaker still and so generic it’s almost nauseating. At least there’s no adding any suspect peculiars such as chemical oud or civet here.
I was struggling to decide which was pick of the bunch between this one and Ginger pear (check that out!) but this in the end was a disappointment in the quest for a true thick, sweet non-smokey black tea scent.
    6/10.

I am struggling to find the black tea in Illuminum Tribal Black Tea, which to me is a light and slightly sweet citrus scent. It’s pleasant enough, but not at all what I expect from a perfume bearing the name “black”!
Maybe I’m disappointed because I take my Assam tea with cream, not lemon. Here I feel that the citrus is by far the most dominant quality, and pitched so high that the tea is buried beneath. I am of the opinion that the flavor and scent of good tea do not need to be masked and should not be adulterated!
Setting quibbles about the name aside, this is a pretty nice, somewhat spicy citrus scent. It is included amongst the “Citrus Collection” of this line, so that at least makes sense. The drydown eventually becomes a bit woody, but it never really smells like tea to me.

Very nice, also very fleeting. Gone in half an hour on me. Reminds me a lot of L’Occitane Green Tea.

If you’re not obsessed by tenacious longevity and monster sillages, Tribal Black Tea is a pretty decent composition that is worth checking out. A sparkling concoction of black tea and citruses enriched by a very nice cardamom note. A fresh, summery fragrance that wears like an Eau De Cologne. Probably a tad dull and slightly synthetic during the woody-amber driven drydown, yet somewhat presentable. Maybe a bit overpriced.
    Rating: 6.5/10

Although orange is the citrus note here, to my nose this is a very pleasant rendition of black tea with lemon. This would be a refreshing scent for hot weather, although projection and longevity appear to be a problem.
    Thanks Scorpiosheep for the sample!

    mmmmm … I love it!!!!
A stunning black tea fragrance – with a clear pinch of orange.
Very cozy and simple in a very positive way.
Should more than happy to add it to my collection, but just as “scorpionsheep” said, a little too poor durability (2h or so)… at least on me 🙁
