Description

Dusk, March, 1930, Mayfair, London

“A group of architects gather for cocktails at Mayfair’s smartest Art Deco smoking room. As they settle in the warm interior of dark woods, leather and velvet, London’s bright young things burst in, frosted martinis in hand, surrounded by a cloud of laughter, white smoke and fine vanilla.”

The Architects Club was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is Yann Vasnier.

Smoky vanilla and woods, with clove creeping in later. A perfect balance of all elements. Lovely.

If I had to choose one fragrance to wear for the rest of my life, it would be this one. I have been looking for a vanilla that isn’t too sweet or too powdery, which has been a futile effort until I was turned onto this.
There is an initial flood of vanilla that eventually dries down to a peppery/woody warmth. It’s just a gorgeous and unique fragrance that’s definitely on the softer side of unisex. My husband loves it on me. It doesn’t have the strongest sillage, but I prefer that for daily use.
This is the Holy Grail of vanilla fragrances, as far as I’m concerned.

It’s beautiful, it’s perfect, it smells like Linda Evangelista, it’s a model vanilla fragrance!
The most heartbreakingly rich and smoky vanilla you could ever imagine.

Stunning vanilla scent. Not that powdery thankfully but more on the fresher and woody side.as it dries down becomes more woody and just has a coziness about it.. Addictive as hell! would be delicious on either sex too. Reminds me of what clouds in heaven would smell like if they had a scent. Soft clouds of vanilla giving you a warm hug. One of those fragrances that’s like a second skin. Blends in just so smoothly. Sadly the price is a little too much.

I really like the opening of this, and I like that it’s a very herbal woody vanilla and not gourmand. It lasts a long time, but I’m not entirely sure I like the drydown — namely it’s nice enough but maybe a bit boring after all that stuff in the opening. I have a larger Scentbird sample of this and I’ll definitely drain that before making any final decisions. It’s okay on a cool spring day, but I also think it’ll be better in fall.

    Decants for sale.
I received a 100 ml bottle for Valentines ’18 from Barneys (still have a receipt) and I can sell decants/samples. If you are interested, send me a private message.
I’m in love with the fragrance but I know I won’t be able to finish the whole bottle. I’d describe it as sophisticated woody vanilla. Lasts a week on my sweater.

Solid, cool woody vanilla. Not super unique or special but still lovely.

Starts out with an invigorating and interesting blend of peppery, citrus, and juniper notes. But dries down to nothing but vanilla, amber, and wood. The staying power is good, but unfortunately what lingers isn’t anything unique or special. I was very disappointed in this one.

Promises much but can’t deliver, on my skin at least. Opening burst of peppery juniper with some citrus is absolutely sparkling and wonderful – something really special and truly original, it wakes you up with a sharp slap to the cheek and you think “Oho! Something really interesting about to happen here!”
I so wish that could sustain, but instead it fades away to barely-there, wispy wood/amber/vanilla, which is still lovely but so much less exciting than the start. Sillage collapses completely within a couple of hours and it’s almost completely undetectable 6h on. A beautiful and subtle scent but it just doesn’t work in real life for me.

Finally found my replacement for Diptyque Eau Duelle, which does not last longer than 2h on my skin and clothes.
Peppery sophisticated vanilla which becomes a skin scent after 3h and fades from my skin after 5-6h.
Sillage: soft. can be build up to moderate. However, a gorgeous skin scent for intimate moments
    Lovely vanilla alternatives:
Similiar-ish (getting the same dry vanilla) but still different, touch more creamy, heavier: Van Cleef & Arpels – Vanille Orchid
same vanilla but touch more peppery, horrible lasting power: Diptyque – Eau Duelle
also same fresh opening with similiar vanilla (but pulls more differently on my skin) which is a touch more smoky, incense-ish:
    Atelier Cologne – Vanille Insensee

After trying out all three now constantly, my final verdict:
Receive many compliments with Atelier Cologne – Vanille Incensee and Arquiste – The architects club.
Unfortunately, Van Cleef & Arpel’s Vanille Orchid turns a tad sour-ish after an hour. Not sure, if my perfume went bad after only 4 months of usage…
Clear winner: The architects club. Bright, awakening opening and gorgeous heart with the best lasting power!

This is just the way I love my vanilla — aromatic, woody and bright.
Opening with a good swill of gin and tonic, it promises optimism and cheer. The smell of juniper-led gin quickly disappears as vanilla scented cigarillos are lit. Smoky with woody guaiac, gently sweet and spicy with quality vanilla.
Luminous amber crystals twinkle in the background, glinting with accents of soft lemon. It quite reminds me of Moresque Tamima which has been on my radar for a while. This seems to be a more accessible fragrance both in price and availability in the US, and equally as beautiful.
If the Architects Club is open for membership, sign me up for Friday night cocktails and novel cigars.

A dry, ethereal vanilla soaring above resinous, warm guaiac– no sticky buttercream here! This fragrance is effortlessly luxurious. It lingers lightly on clothing, but won’t leave sweaters smelling stale. I will say that if sprayed too close to the skin, an unpleasant sharp sawdust note can emerge, so don’t overdo it. I’ve since learned to spritz this on a bit more diffusely; when applied in light layers, the notes settle beautifully and the vanilla really sings. If you like vanilla and incense, give this a try and don’t be scared off by the citrus and juniper. I would LOVE to get closer to a gentleman refined enough to wear this on a date. 🙂

Features one of the rarest vanillas in perfumery: Mexican.
This is a wild variety that has to be collected in the jungle (dangerous in itself but even more so because of the drug cartels).
Mexican vanilla smells rich woody and soft at the same time, not as smoky as Madagascaran and not as sweet as Bourbon.
Overall Architect’s Club is a sofisticated soft woody perfume with some very nobble vanilla nuance.

All in all, if you are a vanilla collector and have not tried this, buy it, blind even, because it’s an all-star in its category.
Masculine, well made, rich (but not candy sweet) sophisticated, smokey vanilla scent. Guaiac wood gives it a sweet-wood-richness with a hint of strangeness that only guaiac can give. Vanilla is hard to do, with so many cheap alternatives and synthetics plus it has a tendency to lean feminine which is likely why vanilla isn’t often found on the men’s fragrances shelves but more often on the ladies shelves, teens sprays and bathroom and room spritzes. THIS IS NOT THAT.
ONE OF THE BEST MASCULINE VANILLAS AROUND.

This is primarily vanilla but it is a dry and not super sweet smell. It also seems peppery to me and a little woody, which I really like. The more I wear it the more I enjoy it. It is pretty powerful in a good way since I do not ever want to pay a ton just to have to put on ten thousand sprays or even four or five. I sometimes layer it with Eau Des Baux, and it blends perfectly. This fragrance is great quality.

Vanilla, juniper berries, and wood, are what I came back for after testing this subtle aroma, cool yet comforting, refined casual.
Not a beast, so if you worship at the alter of projection and longevity, don’t get this, limit yourself to what you know will make you happy. It still has moderate longevity for me, which you could extend by spraying on clothes, hair, etc, but still, it will never scream, or demand a room’s attention.
Actually, it was a toss up between purchasing the more potent Nanban and this, but I have enough heavies at the mo, whereas this manages to balance a vanillic elegance just about unique to itself.
Expensive, but Bloom Perfumery (UK), are doing an online Xmas advent calander with different deals every day until the 25th, and they happened to have 30% off their bestselling unisex fragrances on the 4th, so a bargain price of a little less than £1 per ml was paid. Happy christmas to me!
A great scent to read a book to, something like The Great Gatsby. Librarians will flock. I haven’t scientifically tested this.

Arquiste The Architects Club opens with a fresh lemon and gin opening. The lemon here is not expressively juicy or tart, nor is gin overly metallic, but both give out a refreshing, tonic and cool sensation without being screechy, probably thanks to the upcoming vanilla.
The vanilla gradually moves to the front. In The Architects Club, its texture leans towards being dry and grainy, like fine vanilla flavoured crystal sugar with a tiny bit of play-doh heliotrope. During the first hour, it mingles with the cool lemon and gin, creating a transparent yet crystalline effect to the usually opaque warm vanilla.
Later on, smoky guaiac wood makes itself known, along with oak and an aniseed nuance. Combined with the powdery vanilla, it actually reminds me of a similar combination in Mona di Orio Myrrh Casati. However, The Architects Club is decidedly more effervescent, brighter and lighter, and less creamy in comparison.
The Architects Club doesn’t have any dramatic changes afterwards. It just slightly reminds me of boozy plums at times, because of the combination of lemon and amber-vanilla. The sillage is very close, and the longevity is around 6 hours.
In a nutshell, The Architects Club is a cool, refreshing, vegetal citrus vanilla with a smoky guaiac and myrrh undertone. To my nose and on my skin, I find it in the same camp as Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée, Diptyque Eau Duelle and Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise, as if combining Vanille Insensée’s citrus woody opening elements with a less sweet version of the powdery woody Vanille Exquise. That being said, even though I find the price a bit too steep, The Architects Club is still different enough from the aforementioned cool-toned vanilla, with its smooth smoky woody undertone. I’d definitely recommend it as a radiant and refreshing vanilla fragrance, and easy to appreciate and versatile as well.

Starts off with the most beautifully natural and soft smelling vanilla. I checked the official notes and yes–they use real vanilla absolute in this. The difference in quality between this and most vanillas is unmistakable for me. It is perfectly balanced, not overly sharp or sweet, and doesn’t turn into a weird bubblegum scent like many vanillas do on my skin. As it warms up it transforms into an equally gorgeous woody-leather scent with the vanilla still supporting in the background. This is what I thought Vanille Insensee was going to be like. The Architects Club is a swoon worthy vanilla for me. Every time I smell it–UGH divine! I am going to test a few more (real) vanilla perfumes, and if they don’t beat this one I will certainly invest in a bottle.
Update: Sadly I finished my sample vial. I can still smell the gorgeous, rich vanilla on my shirt past 24 hours. I will miss it dearly.

A well-executed but ultimately uninspiring blend of vanilla, smoke and woods. Nice, but not worth the price.

I’ve been obsessed with this fragrance ever since I discovered a sample. I wear this all the time and never get bored of this sophisticated smoky vanilla scent. With a subtle hint of cardamom it changes the scent completely so it’s definitely not your average boring vanilla scent. The dry down is also incredible as it becomes a little more powdery but still smoky and delicious. I’ve not found a fragrance quite like this. No wonder it’s become one of my favourites.

So far I have been really unimpressed with this house. The Architects’ Club is a pleasant enough smoky vanilla, and a less offensive version of 4160 Tuesdays’ The Sexiest Scent on The Planet. Ever. IMHO (AKA The Most Annoying Name for a Perfume on the Planet. Ever. IMHO).
However, the longevity to me is really offensive. On me it lasted 20 minutes, tops. And that’s layered over moisturiser.
If you want a well made smoky vanilla that doesn’t break the bank and lasts as long as it should, buy Bvlgari Black. Eau Duelle is another good alternative, as mentioned by DHIguy99.

The more time I spent with my sample I knew this was legit juice. I sold Eau Duelle and picked this up. Very boozy and smoky vanilla. Unisex all the way. Projection and longevity are pretty good on my skin. Usually I am a fragrance sponge but this is such a beautiful blend that it stays with me 6-8. Very very happy to add this to my night out rotation. This will shine in the cooler weather but can also be worn on a cool summer/spring night. I’m not sure if I would wear this during the day. I wouldn’t want to waste this on work. Very easy to loose yourself in this juice. A stunner that will get you compliments.

I like this fragrance a lot. It reminds me of Eau Duelle mixed with Sweet Redemption. It’s projection and longevity seem to be pretty good on me. I get 6-8 longevity and 2-3 projection. I have both ED and SR so I really do not see a point in owning but if they ever run out, this will be on my to buy list.

Well. Well… This is a light, happy fragrance with a twist. It is subtle and delicate. the citrus is really understated and cannot be easily recognised. It really works for me, a perfect spring scent, slightly flirty in a shy way… Serious lasting power of the base vanilla but then anything with vanilla lingers on my skin. Yet htis one is not too sweet, maybe because it is tamed by a musky tone. Wonderful.

a very expensive sweet woody skin scent, don’t be fooled by its opening there won’t be anything left to wear…I threw my money to the wind…

  26. :

money waste on a woody amber vanilla Nothingness… poor sillage and poor longevity…

  27. :

Pleasant and soft aroma of clean. Nothing extraordinary, but exactly what one would expect for a day non-binding. It is nice contrast between vanilla and citrus. Try it.

This is a lovely cuddly day wear scent that takes the clear herbal, slightly peppery aroma of juniper and angelica and layers it on top of a soft whipped vanilla mousse and amber, backed by smooth velvety woods.
The composition balances deftly between feminine and masculine, with the light fluffy sweetness complimenting the dense, vaguely smoky character of the base. It’s a bit like standing in a fancy board room and inhaling a ball of cotton wool dabbed with vanilla essence.
It has a coziness that makes it perfect for Autumn/Early Spring.
If you like dry vanilla fragrances, this a winner for sure and like all Arquiste perfumes, has tremendous longevity and sillage.
