Nothing revolutionary or new but that is anyway not the concept of the line of Maison Christian Dior Collection. The concept of this line is to bring simple, well blended fragrances that somehow take you back in time by reminding you of something familiar from the past.
Terra Bella is a very well blended frangrance serving as a traditional cologne. It will remind you of something familiar, something between Eau de Cologne by Chanel, Orange Verté by Hermés, Aqua di Parma Colonia Eau de Cologne or JoMalone 154, has a little vibe of masculine Penhaligon’s in spite of the fact is has no lavender in it.
It is not an outstanding fragrance, but it is undeniably effortless, timeless like a quiet luxury and it is easy to wear.

Earthy because of the cypress, yet airy orange blossom. A majority of the new releases are minimalist, almost soliflore skin scents that bloom beautifully as skin warms. Terra Bella is both delicious and serene.

Citrusy opening, herbal drydown. The citrus/orange note stays in the background throughout this cologne’s development. Not much to say about it : refreshing, made of high quality ingredients and linear. Reminds me a bit of Voyage d’Hermes, a simplified version. Pleasant, but not worth that price tag.

It is interesting that as much as we try to rationalize the perfumery there is a great psychological factor that influences the choices and explains certain behaviors. If we were to talk about food, it would be difficult for anyone to pay the price of a caviar in a Mcdonalds snack, and that would be more easily criticized. But when it comes to perfumes, as a scent does not have a concrete form that allows this criticism to be made companies like Dior can appeal to the emotional and sell perfumes like Terra Bella, which are nothing less than McDonalds snacks sold at the price of caviar.
It is important to note that both caviar and McDonalds snacks serve their purpose for the intended audience and should be evaluated against this. I use the same rational for Terra Bella: as a popular Cologne and at a mainstream price range it would be a good job, as an exclusive perfume in a much higher price range leaves much to be desired.
Theoretically Terra Bella was made to bring contrasts and evoke a landscape of orange trees, but I do not know if the desired contrast was the one that shows a well thought opening against a poor base. Terra Bella also revolves around the idea of a Cologne and seems to be a fixation of Dior sell this type of perfume for high price. The difference is that we are in front of a traditional cologne – succulent citrus opening, herbal touches, clean floral citrus body and base of musks. What sounds more exclusive and refined is the aroma of the opening, which even suggests the aroma of petitgrain of mandarin. Moreover, we are faced with a standard formula that doesn’t even ends in luxurious musks, resembling the final stages of a mainstream masculine perfume. Terra Bella depends heavily on the aura of the Dior universe and an exclusive service so that you psychologically do not realize that you are buying McDonalds at the price of caviar.

Upon smelling Terra Bella, my thought was “This smells familiar.. wait a minute…”
HERMES Concentree d’Orange Verte!
It is the l’eau or lighter version of d’Orange Verte, which is my favorite. The difference is that Terra Bella doesn’t have the bitterness of the orange peel CdOV has. It feels lighter, transparent, airy, crisp and delicate.
Terra Bella, which in Italian means Beautiful Earth, is absolutely unisex.
