Description

Starry Starry Night is a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh, his vision, and his art. Starry Starry Night is a perfume that celebrates the perception and painting of Vincent, and his own celebration of the earth, the sky, the clouds, the haystacks, the sunflowers, the regular hardworking people, – the beauty in everyday places that Vincent revelled in and painted for the world to share, and in that inimitable style all his own that so many people now hold as wonderful.

“I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream.” – Vincent Van Gogh.

Starry Starry Night perfume is a dream from the painting – of swirling lights in the night, of the perfumed fires on a hundred hearths, of the links between earth below and the heavens above, of wind and breath, smoke and love.” – a note from the brand.

In 2016, Paul Kiler released three fragrances. They were: Heaven Fresh, Cuir Moderne and this one, Starry Starry Night, which pays tribute to Vincent Van Gogh and one of his most famous paintings: The Starry Night, painted in 1889, which portrays the view from his window in the asylum of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The name of the fragrance becomes obvious when we remember the song “Vincent” by Don McLean and its opening line.
In the painting, 10 twirling stars are depicted along with a yellow moon, with a lit city in the background, a church with an elongated steeple, and in the foreground the silhouette of a long cypress.
In the fragrance, the perfumer tried to bring this perception of spinning lights in the sky, fireplaces lit inside the houses, the routine of a life that does not stop, while an artist watches everything through the window. For this, he combined notes of ylang-ylang, cucumber, orange blossom absolute, clove absolute, Meyer lemon, petitgrain, frankincense, smoked pinewood, leaves and absolute of cypress, green myrtle, cardamom, sandalwoods from Australia and Mysore and choya loban (a species of Indian frankincense).
How to describe art? How to translate, in words, your vision and sensitivity when you see a painting?
This feeling of free and personal interpretation corresponds to what I feel when I wear this fragrance. Starry Starry Night is almost a spiritual ritual. There is a lot of citrus vigor behind the petitgrain and the absolute of orange blossoms, but at the same time, there is a melancholy, as in a rainy afternoon, represented by the huge amount of woods.
But the real beauty of Starry Starry Night is in the smoke accord, which escapes from the context of incense to which we are accustomed. It seems someone has set fire to an orange grove and the smoke is rising to the heavens, along with hot flames, which seem to touch the sky. The smoke does not cease; the smell does not dissipate; the scent spreads through the air. It is citrusy and woody with an incense base. What a journey! What a fragrance!

Great orange blossom scent, with an underlying accord that smells like the green aroma of warm summer air. Probably from the petitgrain, cucumber and citrus mix. Really lovely, makes the orange blossoms smell fresh and fragile. Has a tiny acerbic edge that adds realism to the greenness. As if you crushed the leaves while picking the flowers. All the notes add to the nature-centric feeling. Good sillage and longevity. Adding this to my summer line-up!

I love this “all encompassing beauty” of a scent, I feel literally blanketed in gorgeous energy- it’s very much like a peak experience in a perfume! So very well balanced the woods musk, florals, citrus and slighty green notes blend harmoniously, rocking you all night (or day) long. Using powerful aromatics this perfume stays and stays and you want it to. Highly recommended ***** five stars from me!
