Wow, this is straight up sunscreen in a bottle. Creamy lotion, a tad bit of coconut, a big ol splash of public pool skank. That is the recipe for summer in a bottle. It’s almost too weird, but I like it. The most beachy/summery scent I’ve tried for sure, BUT not the coconut dream I hoped for

Yep, this just smells like the nostalgic way I remember sunscreen smelling when I was a kid in the 90’s. My sister freakin’ loves this and has been through at least two bottles. I personally feel pretty meh about it and won’t be picking up a full size bottle but I do have the large 4oz. sample size they sell on their website should I get in the mood to wear it. If it’s your sort of thing you might love it.

Save yourself the $–just put on plasticky smelling sunscreen.

I like it. Mainly because I like the smell of suntan lotion/oil. That’s exactly what this smells like. For a more refined version, try bois 1920 aethereus.

I love Smell Bent but never would have thought to try St. Tropez Dispenser as “beachy” scents have never really moved me. I randomly aquired a full bottle as a free gift with a poshmark purchase. Nice.
St. Tropez Dispenser is synthetic smelling, but that’s part of the fun. This is not some natural, creamy pretty white floral with coconut – this smells like sunblock from back in the day. It’s coconutty, certianly, and features jasmine in heaps, but to those around you it just smells like a beach day – tropical in a man-made way, evoking feelings of upbeat leisure and outings where your body converts massive doses of sunshine into Vitamin D. This smells amazing on sun-warmed skin and is one of those fragrances that is far better when the natural human smell plays a starring role. On dry, clean skin it is a bit harsh.
St. Tropez Dispenser doesn’t project far, but people nearby catch whiffs of it and appreciate it. Songes is my “fancy” tropical foral and St. Tropez Dispenser is my daytime bar-hopping tropical floral. Good times.

I love this although I agree it can get a tad bit chemical-ly. As long as you don’t over analyze it, it’s like a day spent with hawaiian Tropics, a pina colada and salt and sand in everything (in a good way), My problem came from the fatc that it comes in a “body spray” type bottle, but it really is pretty strong so I habitually over sprayed. Coconutty, tropical fun…and trust me, people who come in contact with you won’t think it has a chemical smell, because only we think about that concept…they will smell pure summer fun.

I received a full size bottle and when I first smelled this I was delighted; it reminded me of lounging on a tropical beach, slathered with coconut scented sunscreen drinking a mai tai. Then over the course of 10 minutes this fragrance began morphing into a sharp chemical odor that made me retch. It just smelled completely awful and I scrubbed myself almost raw trying to remove it.
Yet I still had faith. I still loved the concept. I love beaches. I love coconut and salt. Perhaps my skin was just uncooperative and brought forth the noxious chemical notes but I could still use it as a room spray. I tried it as a room spray several times and each time was staggered by how completely awful it smelled to me. Like someone had taken cold harsh steel and tried to mix it with artificial coconut.
I’m positive this works on some people and at its price point it’s likely a good beach option, but please try it first.

I appreciate the humor of Brent Leonesio and the fun he has with fragrances, from the construction of notes to the names and packaging. Those are what drew me to his line, but the scents themselves are what has made me a fan. This one is not for faint of heart. It will wallop you with a thrilling construction of jasmine, coconut and musk, leaving you thinking “beach”. Somehow it smells like the salty skin after a day at the beach, sand included. Plus, the remnants of an old-school sunscreen with that Hawaiian Tropic smell. A friend said that this one smells like tanning on a beach..and it does. The longevity of this one is top notch as well.

    no no no
This smells like melted plastic so much that I don’t care about the coconut at all. The most artificial coconut scent I’ve tried. There are much better high end (Vittoria Apuana, Memoire Liquide vacancies) and low end coconut smelling options out there (SJP Pure Crush, VS Coconut passion, Avon Tahitian Holiday)
Doesn’t even smell like suntan lotion either, I don’t understand the love it gets

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this already. It has been my faithful summer holiday companion for the last few years.
Right now I am packing a suitcase because tomorrow I am going to Malaysia for a month. Trying to be all minimalist I vowed that I would bring one and only one perfume. I also vowed that I would not bring St. Tropez Dispenser AGAIN. Afterall, I have over 100 spray perfumes and at least the same again in perfume oils. So I picked something else, finished packing and zipped that suitcase up. Until……I got a nagging sensation. ‘It just won’t be the same without my fun coconuts and jasmine scent’, I thought and proceeded to delve into the luggage, remove the imposter and return St. Tropez to it’s rightful place. That place being fun, fun, fun in the sun.

I love these types of beachy scents in the same way I love disaster flicks–a sort of guilty pleasure with full cognizance that what they lack in sophistication is compensated by the sheer entertainment I receive from them. That said, St. Tropez Dispenser is merely Hawaiian Tropic in a spritz bottle-enjoyable, but not full-bottle worthy. I’ll use up my Olfactif 2mm sample and then go back to the queen of full-bottle worthy beach scents–Guerlain’s Terracotta Le Parfum. Now THAT is a great beachy scent.

well, yes it smells like suntan lotion for sure, I guess that much is obvious from the name!
But also this has a lovely musky jasmine and a hint of green woods and overall the effect it creates for me is one of sun lotion on clean lightly perfumed skin that has spent the morning in the sun.
Pretty good sillage, reasonable longevity and very much fun.
I think my favourite so far from this house is still Prairie Nymph, but this is certainly going on my want list also. So far I am very impressed with this house, I just wish I could find a wider selection to try here in England.
If you are looking for a fun, different, reasonably priced summery scent, or scent to remind you of summer when it is cold and wet, then look no further 🙂

For some reason, I was not expecting a suntan lotion facsimile when I decided to test Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser today. In fact, I had no idea what the name meant. As soon as the juice hit my skin, I expelled a big “Doh!”
Maybe my obtuseness derived from the fact that I have been to St. Tropez, so my image of that city is very different from the stereotype. Just as my memory of Paris is not exhausted by a photo of la tour Eiffel, I do not really think of glistening suntanned skin when I think of St. Tropez. Truth be told, I spent something like one hour in St. Tropez. I had taken a train from Paris to Barcelona and a friend of mine from Los Angeles decided to fly to meet me there. We rented a car and drove more or less along the coast until we got to Cannes, where I ended up staying for about two weeks after my friend had gone back to the states because he had managed to finagle the keys to his uncle’s apartment there. Yeah, I know.
Anyway, we made a short stop in St. Tropez, I believe to get some gas, in addition to taking a quick peek at the legendary location. The city was illuminated brightly by the sun, and the roads seemed dusty and empty except for a couple of shiny sports cars speeding by. I believe that one was white, another yellow, another red. My memory is really a blur. I saw one woman who looked like she wished she were Brigitte Bardot, but that was about it.
We used no suntan lotion in St. Tropez. It was incredibly hot there, like baking in the desert, and I would not have wanted to lay out in the sun under the circumstances. The air was hot and the sun bore down on me so that I felt a bit like Mersault from L’Etranger by Albert Camus. No, I did not shoot anyone–although we did get in an argument, which may have been heat induced. Instead, I got back in the car, and we sped away leaving only those inconsequential memories behind, just strong enough to wipe out the suntan lotion association which most people make with the words: St. Tropez.
Yes, suntan lotion. There are a lot of these sorts of perfumes around, and mainly its a genre I associate with Comptoir Sud Pacifique. In this case, the scent is neither Coppertone nor Bain de Soleil, but Banana Boat. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, to me St. Tropez Dispenser smells like stale suntan lotion. Like the dregs of a bottle of Banana Boat by the end of a summer spent at the beach.

    72) This review is for St. Tropez Dispenser-Apres Soleil version.
being a man and not at all focused on the white flowers I have to say that this perfume has changed my opinion. It’s lovely. On my skin it lacks just a little power on the green and fresh notes, which would have given the illusion of having the flower under the nose, and it would be perfect. Maube on yours…
Good longevity and sillage, super cheap…other brands should take a lesson from it.

Stronger (to me) than the coconut and floral is a prominent “sunscreen” note in St. Tropez Dispenser. It helps dull the sweetness so that this doesn’t become a sickly tropical. Definitely suits a particular time and a place – I couldn’t imagine this for work, or for a dinner, but I could see this with cocktails at a beachside bar, mixing with a sea breeze.

Pina coladas, sunscreen, and tropical flowers! The smell of summer parties.
I love this to bits, it’s a really fun, lighthearted scent. Must get a FB when my oil sample is gone. I also need to try the ‘Apres Soleil’ version…

I have the EDT and perfume oil. Both a lovely, modern jasmine mix. Easy to wear, not toooooo heady, but also a little edgy still. Warmed up with its base, highly recommended if you’re into jasmine.

The original St Tropez Dispenser is a really nice scent which slightly reminded me of SJP NYC Pure Crush.
this house has some fun quirky and affordable niche scents. Do your perfume loving self a favor and order a sample set from Brent

This review is for the Apres Soleil version of St. Tropez Dispenser.
The Smell Bent site lists the notes as follows:
jasmine absolute dressed up with honey, coconut, soft leather, sandalwood and nitro musk
This is divine. I am definitely getting a FB. This is tropical, sweet, and sultry. It might sound weird, but this is almost like a gourmand floral… as if you were served some delicious dessert covered with candied, sweet, honeyed tropical flowers…. I agree there is a “buttery-ness” to this. Makes it very rich and gourmand. YUMMO!
This is truly wonderful juice. I highly recommend sampling. Not sure how long this will be around, but for me, the FB order is ON THE WAY Brent!!

I have the St Tropez dispenser – “Après Soleil”, A night-time version of this. It’s …just… so ..beautiful!!! Lush “buttery” gardenia, with notes of orange blossom, coconut, soft musk and more! It makes an incredibly sultry blend. A truly lush comforting, creamy, snuggly, its like warm sunny sunshine or a sultry warm night in a bottle! I’m hooked! The sillage and projection are huge, worth every penny, and for $45 …Want a full bottle ASAP!

I LOVE this scent! Lovely, fresh combo of coconut and jasmine, not too sweet. Longevity is very good, I can smell it on me all day after applying a few sprays in the morning. Silleage is ok, I don’t want a silleage monster anyway.
I have a FB in spray version, imagine that it will be empty by the end of summer…
Edit August 2012: I now also have the Apres Soleil version, and it is equally lovely, but a little more for evening use – or even during fall/winter time.

St Tropez Dispenser (oil) is a quite cute, possibly ‘traditional’ floral fruity scent (as appose to those synthetic high voltage pink la-la bubbly ones flooding the market this days). It starts with dried coconut meal and creamy gardenia (I know it’s jasmine which is listed here, but to my nose it’s more towards gardenia) smell, which is quite tropical and naturally optimistic.
Then the coconut gets fainter and the creamy cross-between-jasmine-and-gardenia scent comes to play. Somehow it reminds me a lot of Moyette Paris, but just a little bit less heavy on the creamy part. It’s really smoothly blend and really cute in a more refined way.
Recommend if you like creamy gardenia scents with a bit tropical touch.

Yum, yum, yum. This is summer in a bottle! It is Feb and I am eating this scent up. It takes me back to a warmer, more happier time- laughing in the sunshine, outdoor BBQ, and tanning oil. Great scent!!

Oh, this one is just FUN! I’ve tried several perfumes that are supposed to smell like “the beach” — Bronze Goddess, Neonatura Souffle, Coral Flower — but this really does smell exactly like you’ve taken a dip in the ocean and reapplied your tanning oil.
Fortunately, that is a really good smell. St. Tropez Dispenser is quite sweet, but it’s not heavy or cloying or foodie so the sweetness is very pleasant. It’s not tanning oil gunked up with a lot of extra florals or umbrella drink smells — just plenty of coconut, a green juicy lotion smell that is apparently aloe vera (and if you don’t associate aloe vera with the beach, you must be a lot more careful with the sunscreen than I used to be!), and a nice oily sweet Hawaiian Tropic-ish accord. It also does smell salty/mineral to me, but honestly that could be the power of suggestion. It’s rather sheer, sunny, and the lasting power is good — you get teasing whiffs all day, and I could actually smell it a bit the next morning.
I wore this on a rainy day in November — I can only imagine how enjoyable it will be on a summer weekend!
