Description

Olfactory Notes: citrus notes, white lily, rose, tuberose, saffron, gourmand chord, ambery notes, crystalline musk.

Keiko Mecheri attaches great importance to the Lily, the Lily of Palestine in particular, devoting a perfume to this flower. She always secretly keeps on her desk a bouquet of freshly cut white Lily. Photo-realism as a leitmotiv, Realism is truly possible in only few arts: Sculpture, photography and perfume, for an instant only.
Scents are only the one that can depart and return again.

A perfectly replication in high definition of this intense flower. Exact and pure. The only ornament is a light dust of gourmand notes and saffron.

“ What much of realism in olfactory art seeks to achieve:
to nurture and edify us”. Soussanne was launched in 2012.

This is a nice musky floral feminine scent suitable for year round use. It’s the strongest that I’ve tried from Keiko with 4-5 hours of longevity and soft sillage/projection. I get strong tuberose, musk, strong lily, mild rose intensive amber/saffron combo. Beautiful & discreet but frminine.

I would have never expected this to smell the way it does judging by the notes. I thought Soussanne would be like a white lily, floral and intense, but there’s much more to it.
First things first, I dislike the fragrance and don’t really find it wearable. In addition to that, it’s not really a floral by any stretch of the imagination. It smells like ink in a ballpen refill, which, by the way, has a different sort of scent than the fountain pen ink. It’s thicker and oilier somehow, more unctuous, tarry and mineral than the wet and earthy smell of fountain pen ink.
As bizarre as it sounds, I can actually imagine lily there too. I guess I’ve been conditioned to do so through exposure to the jet fuel-like aspect of white flowers played up in some perfumes. It only ever happened with tuberose and gardenia before but maybe white lily can do that too. Anyway, in short, Soussanne smells like floral-scented ballpoint ink to me, neither attractive nor off-putting, just very bizarre.
There must be much more in it than the listed notes, but Keiko won’t tell–on her website the notes and description look very innocuous as well. I detect oud in the composition, the bandaid-like variety that adds to the inky aura. There’s other wood there too, some kind of sun-bleached woody aroma, like driftwood maybe? Nothing rough or toasty, something with a slick surface, polished smooth by the elements.
Very odd; one of the most bizarre florals I have smelled.

This is very feminine and gorgeous! Opens with a beautiful, romantic white floral accord. I assume it is the datura, after a time it becomes incredibly hypnotic, lush and heady. The datura has a natural sweetness to it. Underneath the white florals, I sense some sandalwood. The datura is there for the life of the fragrance, it feels like it takes over the fragrance, casting a shadow over the rose, musk and oud (in a positive way). I see them on the pyramid, but I am not sensing these notes very much on my skin.

Opening is lovely with a bit of an 80’s hairspray feel to it. This is a highly sweet and heady beginning. More later after the drydown begins.

A straight forward combo of sandalwood and datura. Almost “in your face” at the opening, the datura note is so harsh that it made me sneeze. Also sandalwood plays a huge role making this extremely powdery and thick.
There is no aoud on me, also rose is unfortunately not here. What do I get – I get bits of green lily in the background of the powdery mess.
As this is very sweet I cannot imagine this on a man, but who knows, maybe someone’s skin might rock it pretty good.
At the heart part “Soussane” unfortunately for me gets a bit too cloying and headache inducing making me to want to scrub this off as it is hard to breathe, silage is good though as I feel it on my wrist with no problem even when I’m trying not to sniff it.
Quality is of course tops as one could expect from Keiko Mecheri and especially from the line “Bespoke” and the huge price tag.
Try this out if you look for a high quality sweet/powdery oriental perfume.

In keeping with the characteristic style of the house of Keiko Mecheri, SOUSSANNE is a very smooth and relatively subtle floriental perfume. The longevity is good and the sillage bigger than expected. The sweetness, too, is undeniable, making this a perfume much more likely to be worn by ladies than by gents. I would not actually classify this one as unisex, and the name, too, suggests that it is not.
I recently tested the perfumes of Linari, some of which are in a style similar to this one, but I think that SOUSSANNE is better than those. Still, there is a familiar feeling to the blend, and the opening stages really remind me of the sandalwood vanilla designer floriental genre. The difference is that the materials here are beyond reproach, and this creation does not smell like any specific iconic perfume familiar to me.
Things begin to diverge as time progresses, and the drydown, which I detected only fully the morning after, on my cat’s fur, has a spiciness which to my nose is reminiscent of The Different Company ROSE POIVREE. However, in this case it is pleasant. Since I’ve now brought HRH Emperor Oliver into this review, I may as well report that he seems to like SOUSSANNE quite a lot and became very frisky and affectionate when he first caught a whiff of me wearing this perfume.
I do not detect much in the way of oud in this composition except in the middle stages. The florals are tightly woven together so that I would not immediately identify either rose or lily in this perfume, though I am confident that they are both there–especially since SOUSSANNE is said to be “bespoke”! The concentration seems closer to parfum than eau de parfum, it seems to me. Overall, this strikes me as a fine floriental perfume which is probably best suited for wintertime, although I would not say that it is cloying or overly dense. Very Mecheri-esque, it seems to me.
The Emperor gives this perfume two enthusiastic paws up! It looks as though flavorite’s cat loves SOUSSANNE as well… (read on)
