Description

Sottile is translated from the Italian
word for “subtle.” Simple, understated,
and self-assured. This fragrance is an
elegant bouquet of tea rose and
muguet. Soft and
sentimental, it
captures the essence of inward beauty.

PERFUMER’S NOTES:
Sottile is a wonderful scent for quiet reflection, walks on the beach, or gardening. It is a very simple
fragrance, easy to wear and quite elegant at the same time. Most people who are attracted to this scent
are connected to the natural essence of themselves that is feminine, sensitive, and graceful; this scent
has a way of bringing out those qualities in everyone. Tea rose and lily of the valley are sometimes
perceived as old-fashioned and sometimes people think of their grandmother when they smell tea roses.
I never really knew my grandmother so, to me, it’s a very modern fragrance but certainly sentimental.
When I was younger, my mother grew roses in our yard. I would daydream for hours looking at those
yellow roses, then wander outside to smell them and feel the soft touch of rose petals on my face. I have
learned to love things that are simply pretty; the most gorgeous flowers are not necessarily the most
glamorous or noticeable. What’s extraordinary about this fragrance is its understated elegance. I like to
wear Sottile when I feel pretty and sweet; it’s a subtle, pure fragrance and a timeless beauty.

A blast of tea rose, sweetened by Lily-of-the-valley, and freshened by an ozonic damp note. Very pretty on spraying, but I have scent glue skin and this really dies down very quickly on me- I’d say it goes to faint skin scent in about 1.5-2 hours. The drydown smells like the faint remnants of a nice, French-milled soap left on the skin after rinsing- not really something that has me going back to sniff my arm, and frankly, I forget it is even there. I got my bottle very heavily discounted ($30) which at that price I’d also use it as a room spray to scent my bathroom. It does last longer on my hair, so I spritz that, too. Happy to have it and it will get some use, but I wouldn’t pay full price for it.

Sottile is a delicate green floral that feels like an elegant silk shawl around your shoulders, the scent hugging you close for at least 6 hours. Lily of The Valley and Rose are perfectly blended here. For those of you who tried the original Clean EDP and wished it were a wee bit feminine or floral, you’ve got your wish with this gorgeous fragrance! It’s spring-y, fresh, and so lovely!

This is a very true to nature rose, fresh picked. There is a bit of green lotv but the rose is dominant. Very light and pretty polite scent. Simple and lovely, makes you think of a garden.

I woke up so happy this morning. It’s Friday. It’s summer. I am young and healthy. I live in a gorgeous city where the sun shines all the time and people come here to vacation. I just felt like wearing a happy, sunshiney fragrance. I jumped into my car, put the top down and felt the sun on my face. The radio was playing one of my favorite songs, The Isley Brother’s “Living For The Love of You”.
Right then, I remembered that I just received a new perfume in the mail that I wanted to test, so I put it on and was completely blown away. I knew in one sniff that this is one of my top 3 rose scents of all time. It’s the freshest, truest, happiest, softest, loveliest rose fragrance. It’s like bottled sunshine on warm rose petals. The lily of the valley gives it some innocence. There is a deep green scent in the opening that smells like the rose leaves and moss. I could have sworn it was oakmoss (but there is no oakmoss in this) and it adds depth and interest.
Just as I closed my eyes to inhale, the Isley Brothers sung the lines
“Lovely as a ray of sun
That touches me when the mornin’ comes
    Feels good to me, yeah
    My love and me
    Smoother than a gentle breeze
Flowing through my mind with ease
    Soft as can be, well
    When you’re lovin’ me
    When you’re lovin’ me”
Those lines sum up this fragrance perfectly. Sunshine, gentle breeze, and being in love in a bottle.

Sottile goes on very green and pure lily of the valley in a garden wet with rain, quite green and starkly lily scent for about 30 minutes. Then the scent moves more to a white floral with hints of fresh fruits, still with the lily of the valley dominant. I do not smell any rose in this juice. It is pretty but if I want LOTV I will go for Diorissimo. Sottile also has very little staying power- the scent was completely gone after 4 hours and a skin scent only after 2 hours.

floral, fresh, and like a green colorful field. i meet Yosh once, and i bought this one when she described the story behind it. i remember she said that she wanted a scent that describes her childhood with her mother when she was playing in a green yard, floral. she said that it gives confidence to the one who wears it (at least her), she said she wears it under her clothes, then she put her cloths on and then she sprays another perfume, and once she feels less secure, she moves her top a bit so she can smell this one from under.
personally, this perfume is best to be wear in the early morning, going out in a convertible car on a seaside, a sunny day with a tiny cold breeze & some early 90s fast music. it’s like Mariah Carey’s Smell in her emotions music video when she is in that white convertible car scenes.
i like it, it’s floral and clean.

Cleaning detergent meets shoe polish :(( I was really looking forward to receive a sample of Sottile because the other Yosh fragrances did not work for me neither; so Sottile was my last hope but I am disappointed. I must admit the quality is really good; sillage and lasting power are really excellent (which is negative in my case ;)The beginning was especially a bad experience; it stings in my nose. Never had this before with any fragrance!

I am surprised how may I dislike something I ought to like as I enjoy rose and L-O-V in perfumes.
The opening was rather rancid for me and I almost scrubbed it off as it resembled urine and feces (I am not kidding there, it was almost like someone had taken a dump in the middle of the rose garden). It did get better at the heart, but still I was puzzled with what it is that disturbs me so much, the rose feels synthetic to me and the whole composition simply does not sit together very well.
The dry down was far from what I felt at the opening and heart – I was left with a mild/fresh soapy scent I’ve seen many times before.

STUNNING…..absolute fresh, clean, pristine, delicate Roses and Lily of the Valley.
Now this one smells like you have just showered on a Spring morning. You are laying naked and relaxing on clean silken bedsheets covered in creamy white rose petals….and the windows are open, a light breeze wafts in from the garden where lily of the valley is blooming in profusion. Quietly meditative.
Dreamy, delicate, stress free aromatherapeutic Spring Garden. Gorgeous really. A luxury spa fragrance to my nose. Close your eyes, inhale, and be soothed completely.
Pure beauty on my skin. I love this.

I just got my samples from LuckyScent, and I’m already in love with Sottile! (Perfumed Court, my usual sample source, doesn’t carry Yosh)
To me the lily of the valley sort of sits just above the rose, floating on top of it like a wave. Every so often the rose scent breaks through, but is always tamped by the lily. And yet the lily is not artificial at all; neither is the rose. They both combine to smell like a fresh spring garden.
A VERY appropriate scent for summer, so I suppose I’ll be out the $100 to order it from Barney’s 🙂
I also got a sample of Stargazer, and that will probably become my fall scent.

I love the oil of this, it is exactly the smell of blooming roses, as many already said. The oil is much richer and more of a literal rose than the edp. The EDP smells more synthetic and soapy. I still like it, but not love.

This is an incredible elixir. It smells alive! Absolutely intoxicating.
I had the pleasure of meeting Yosh Han a few years ago. She is amazingly intelligent, perceptive, and lovely, and she is an inspiration to me. She is a perfectionist, and each one of her fragrances is filled with details and atmosphere, and elicits stories of her adventures. I don’t think I’ve ever tried a Yosh fragrance that didn’t shock me into vivid scent recollections and/or fantasies. I’m a rose gardener, and I love roses with a passion. I’ve had hundreds of rose bushes, and I always look forward to growing more. Sottile 1.61 is very special to me, because the first time I smelled it was soon after my daughter was born. In a literal translation from English to Italian, the word “sottile” means “subtle”. It can also be transliterated as “thin”, but that does not describe this fragrance. Sottile 1.61 truly smells like a newly bloomed Double Delight rose in a dewy summer garden. It’s pure, fresh, and clear, and, in a natural, non-imposing way, it’s subtle. However, it not not a faint or thin scent. For me, it’s an antidepressant in a bottle. It’s just a radiant, realistic perfume that causes many people to look around them wondering where is the rosebush they smell. It is perfect for wearing while gardening. I received a bottle of this from my husband, so I find this fragrance to be sweetly romantic. My Numerology number has been 1 my whole life, even with changing surnames after marriage, so it seems this suits me in the way the perfumer intends.

Tried the perfume oil. Beautiful. Doesn’t overpower, doesn’t smell like soap or the bath fragrance store, doesn’t make you smell cheap, all problems with many pure rose perfumes. I think the lilly of the valley keeps the rose under control, and the rose keeps the Lilly of the valley (one of my favorites) from doing the same. I will definitely buy this, though it is not the perfume I want to wear most of the time.

Innocent, simply pure. The very incense of tea rose. Would be nice on 18 yo pretty girl in white dress with minimum make up on. Pretty perfume!

This has got to be one of the most achingly sweet rose perfumes ever! I don’t mean sweet in the sense of sugary, but in the best, most innocent and true to life tea rose scents. It is not vampy or dark, but it is not little girl either. Modern without being unwearable as so many are today. A subtle, sexy rose fragrance. Just a simple, elegant and sexy nod to the queen of all flowers, the beloved rose.
On me it starts with a very soft and dewy rose with a hint of green, morphing into a bit of a creamy rose in the heart and the final drydown on me is a true tea rose with a hint of the LOV too. It never gets powdery and the rose always stays true to the flower, never chemically or air freshener like at all. A true rose lovers perfume, blended to perfection with obvious quality and integrity to the flowers.
Sillage is good, when I move my wrist I get little whispers of rose, but not overpowering or cloying. So far longevity is respectable. Well, worth a sample if you love this flower.

Regarding the name, first and foremost, I believe “Sottile” means delicate, when referring to perfume, but “subtle” works, too.
Anyway, this fragrance is weird. It’s a dark, musty, dank rose that smells like a Halloween shop or the inside of a Halloween mask or one of those indoor rides at Disneyworld. Definitely avant-garde and interesting but nothing I’d wear. That musty smell has a similar vibe to L’Air du Desert Marocain by Andy Tauer, to my nose.

Grandma? Not on me, I am 21 and this is what I wished Stella was. A beautiful oil of rose and lilly of the valley, I haven’t experienced many pretty florals that can hold a candle to this one in the rose arena, I am very impressed. I am a big fan of JHAG Lady V, but this is the soft, pretty, polite rose instead of the sexy bold raunchy Lady V. It is not for every occasion, but perfect for informal occasions when you just want to smell like the prettiest most pure of roses and lilly of the valley, just spot on, not the least bit synthetic. This is a review for the oil- the spray might smell like grandmas bathroom, but this doesn’t to me at all.

I really hesitate to use this phrase in a review, because its so cliche and lazy, but for the first time the phrase works: this really does smell like my Grandma’s bathroom.
The bathroom, that is, during the time she had 13 grandchildren all learning to use the big girl pot. These learning sessions were always followed by an emergency cleaning and a dowsing of room freshener, which you can smell for yourself by sampling sottile.
I don’t know what the point of this fragrance is, actually. It’s just not good.

    Testing out the EDP version.
This is a subtle blend of rose and lily of the valley. You are first introduced to a bouquet of roses which beautifully blends down to allow the lily of the valley notes to bloom.
As the day goes by, this EDP has a playful balance between the two notes.
An elegant fragrance to any collection.
I look forward to trying out the Perfume Oil version.
I recommend this scent to any woman who wants smell like her inner beauty.
