*This review is for the original formulation, not the current formulation*
The original Skin Musk (made by Bonne Bell) was my first fragrance, purchased in 1986. Fresh, clean, unique… completely without the sandalwood note that ruins the current formulation for me. China Rain has a similar vibe.
If they brought this back, I would stock up…it’s just that good.

This was my signature scent for years when Bonne Bell was the manufacturer. When Prince Matchabelli took over the perfume/oil, they changed the formulation for the worse. I have both the new and the old bottle and there is a distinct difference in texture and smell. The new perfume/oil by Matchabelli is much weaker and lighter – I can’t stand it. I am hoping that someone will reproduce the original Bonne Bell Musk oil that was loved for decades.

Sarah Jessica Parker was said to be obsessed with this, and I hoped and prayed she would create a scent based on Skin Musk, but she hasn’t, wahhh. I remember when it was $7 in drugstores, and it is not much more these days. Can you believe the hilariously picky and snobbish-in-a-good way perfume critic Luca Turin gives this 3 stars? I am delighted that he appreciates it, and I am so glad it is still around. The top note is unlike anything else, so very warm and a little white pepper. It is my reference point for clean musk.
I swear I thought this was made by Bonne Bell, but it says Prince Matchabelli here. I have no complaints about the reformulation by the company which now owns it.
And will you please smell Aerin’s Tangier Vanille and tell me if she had to have Skin Musk in mind when she created TV?

I was perusing the ‘classics’ in the fragrance aisle at wallywold when a tall, slim, beautiful woman politely said an “excuse me” in a slightly hurried tone, nudging herself in front of my little cart to pick up 2 (maybe it was even 3? I only saw out of the corner of my eye as I said “sorry”) of these “Skin Musk” boxes. She was gorgeous, tall, slim, yet petite and dainty. Honestly she was more gorgeous than half of the Hollywood actresses these days. She said a sweet “Oh honey, you’re fine” after I apologized (is it me or does it seem when someone says ‘you’re fine,’ it seems to mean ‘your being a pita, but it’s okay’..? lol..anyways..), and she plopped 2 or 3 boxes of this into her shopping basket and was on her merry way…
Anyway, I was intrigued. Could this woman be buying this to re-sell it..???? Was it for gifts..???? She left one box there, and I could not resist (I am a fraghead, after all, lol), and I opened the box to take a whiff of the bottle (yes shame on me), I thought, must be for her husband, father, or other man in her life. This was placed right between the women’s and men’s fragrances. I thought, it might be a good layering fragrance..? So I looked this up on fragrantica, and it is ‘for women’. And after reading the reviews, yes, some do like this for layering. Heck, it was $12.00+change(plus tax), so I thought, why not..? If I did not like it, I could give it to my dad, as he could use some new cologne.
So, into the cart this was for me, paid for my goods and left. Had to test this in the car. LOL. Yes, indeed, musky..yet clean. To me this definitely is masculine on it’s own, and yet, I dig wearing this as a woman (I do like and wear many unisex and even masculine colognes, though). To me this has sort of a vintage vibe about it, and it does actually remind me of something my father wore when I was a child in the 70s. So this has a charm for me, in that respect.
I see some debate and questioning in the reviews here about who makes this and such. Ironically, I did look at the back of the box while I was in Wallyworld and did not notice the manufacturer. I thought that was odd. My box says “cologne,” not oil. My box is at home and I will have to look again at the box when I get home, now I am curious!! (For what it’s worth, another oldie classic, Evyan White Shoulders, that I picked up a few months ago at Ross, also is unclear who actually manufactures that one..are random Chinese companies marketing and selling this stuff for cheap now..?)
Anyway, I am still oh so curious why the tall yet petite and uber-feminine girly-girl gorgeous absolutely flawless woman was “stocking up” on this in Walmart. And I wish I could thank her for the trip down memory lane, and perhaps a nice new layering fragrance. I can particularly see this being nice when the temps get cooler, but I will also on occasion wear this on it’s own in the heat of summer. Something about summer amplifying musk..sexy!! And I sure as heck plan on layering these with some fragrances.
If I had to sum this one up, I would say a (slightly masculine) musk with a wee touch of balsamic note and a even slighter powdery note. Again, I have the cologne, not the oil shown currently here in the main pic.
Not overpowering, but then I only did 2 sprays. Moderate sillage and moderate longevity.

I be had this for years, don’t wear it alone much but like using it to mix with otther scents that ” need” sonething. So far I’ve mixed it with
Tabu Rose, Samsara, Dalal, Sabaya and Omnia.
It’s very inexpensive too. It’s fine on its own but I find it almost too li near.
Id k where it’s manufactured, maybe check Amazon or the company website?

This is not so much a review because I have never tried Skin Musk. However, I saw this at a Rite Aid today and I went to go purchase it but I checked the box and it said that it was made in China. I thought this perfume was made in the USA. It was the perfume oil by the way. Is Skin Musk really made in China?

I remember finding this at the Bon Ton, way back in the summer of 82. At first spray, I fell nose over heels at how it smelled fabulous straight out of the bottle. There was no bitter top note, no screaming flowers. I didn’t have to wait to see if I liked it. I KNEW that this was my new scent. That soft, irresistible subtle musk was exactly what I was looking for.It wasn’t one of those overbearing glandular musks. This one shyly drifted up and whispered of it’s presence. These were the days of Jordache Jeans and the preppy look. It was time to find something a little more grown up than Love’s Baby Soft. Bonne Bell really nailed it with this one. I bought some recently, the only way I could find it was in the oil form. It is still the great scent that takes me back to when I was getting ready to start my senior year in high school. One of my favorites.

This is the best of the drugstore musk scents from the 70’s IMO. I’m talking about the oil, but the cologne spray isn’t too bad, but I prefer the oil. Never tried the body spray. As a teen, I lived not far from the Bonne Bell plant located in Lakewood, Ohio. There was always either the oil or cologne in every drugstore.
About this scent, it is chemistry dependent and also dependent on what soaps or shower gels you use otherwise it won’t smell right. For me, I use Dove (pink bar), which I also used back in the day with this, and it works just fine. This can have just a wee bit of a sweet, soft, baby oil smell at times, but mostly, it smells of clean, warm skin. Hence, the name, Skin Musk.
It can be worn year round, alone or layered under another fragrance to give it more longevity or warmth. Like other reviewers, I enjoy this before bed as it is very relaxing and calming. Some compare it to Perfect Veil, but I don’t find that to be true. They may be similar at first but Perfect Veil has vanilla in the dry down where this doesn’t. This is a little sweet, but not vanilla sweet like Perfect Veil. I’m not knocking Perfect Veil. I’ve had and enjoyed Perfect Veil because of that vanilla sweetness, and will get it again. It’s just this is not an exact dupe. Longevity for the oil is practically all day, but sillage is intimate. Men like it for that reason I think. It’s inexpensive and I’m able to get it at my local Walgreen’s.
TIP: I fixed the packaging problem by replacing the tacky green cap with a screw on cap from another perfume oil bottle that I just finished using. You’re could also transfer the oil into a bottle that is more to your liking.
Edit to add: should also be said that when using the perfume oil, only one drop will do and then distribute to all the pulse points. When this oil heats up on your skin is when the magic begins!
Edit to add 2: Adding another tip. I took a shower using Dove’s Purely Pampering Shea Butter with Warm Vanilla and then applied this. Scrumptious is the word to describe this!

Skin Musk perfume oil is my favorite musk of all-time, and I’ve had it in my collection for 30+ years! The spray is OK, also, but I prefer the oil. It’s also the fragrance that I get the most compliments on when I wear it. Back in the early 80’s when it was made by Bonne Bell, one of their ads said “If warmth had a scent, it would be Skin.” Accurate!

After reading about several musks out there I decided to add this to my collection. The first thing I have to say is yes, the packaging is horrible. Who cares, the scent is all that matters. This is a subtle musk at least in the EDT or whatever this 2oz is, I might go for the oil next time for more bang. Very appropriate for professional work. Also appropriate and sexy enough for intimate times, which you might not understand how both are possible until you try it on. Strong going on but it mellows in say 10-20 minutes. Like many people have said, it smells clean like someone who just had a shower. Don’t confuse that with soapy. It smells like…a warm day, like your skin after a day at the beach. That being said, try it for yourself because musk is different for everyone. For example another very loved musk on this website smelled horrible on me. I would not recommend ANY musk for a blind buy. However, this one is cheap enough to try and give away if needed.

Sometimes, a simple, cozy musk is just the ticket and you can’t go wrong with SKIN MUSK. This is another of the nifty fragrances you can find at the drugstore if you ignore the packaging. SKIN MUSK is basic, but not too plain. It’s quiet, but not too soft. And it’s just a bit sweet, but not sweet-sweet. There’s a hint of the sandalwood and a few subtle floral notes here and there, but it’s primarily a musk scent. This somewhat linear aspect of SKIN MUSK makes it relaxing and it doesn’t surprise me that some reviewers report using it as a bedtime scent. Longevity is quite good. Admittedly, this can get a tad boring after a number of hours if I’m not in a quiet mood.
With some other inexpensive musks, I have to wait for dry-down before I start liking them due to an initial note that reminds me of hairspray or shampoo. SKIN MUSK doesn’t have that note and it smells nice right away. I have the cologne spray, batch code 1743. The year of production isn’t in the usual databases, but I’ve had this one for a very long time. Per the reviews, it doesn’t seem to have gone through any major changes in recent years.

I discovered this at CVS about 9 years ago, in the glass bottles and the body spray. I started with fhe body spray to see how it worked on me and fell in love. Musk does very well on me. I never bought the cologne because the body spray lasted for hours. I stocked up every time CVS put it on sale – and then it was gone, and so is my stock. I can’t describe all the “notes” in it but to me and on me it smells soapy shower clean with just a little bit of sexy. I get the most compliments with scents having musk in them. I really must try to find some.

Has to be my all time favorite! Ahhh.. Whatever they did to the old stuff, Bonne Bell gold cap turned into a different scent , it lost it’s sweetness. Same with the old Gloria Vanderbilt Swan.. No unique sweetness. I will always own a bottle of Skin Musk but the green plastic cap version doesn’t do it justice.

My Favorite Musk, an old school classic. It’s a gorgeous combo of dry musky sweetness. I feel it’s sexy, yet, appropriate for day or night. When I wear it, I can’t stop smelling myself. Lovely!

About a year ago I picked up a Skin Musk body spray, actually two, that I found at a discount store. My co-worker became enamored of it all over again (like me she remembered it from her teen years in the 80s), and talked me out of one of the body sprays by offering a trade of her brand-new bottle of Skin Musk oil.
Layering these two definitely makes the scent last longer but I’ve also found it layers well with my Narciso Rodriguez EDP, which I’ve always found extremely floral to my nose and a little too cloying for work or while in close interaction with others unless diluted.
Unlike many here and on other sites, I don’t detect much sandalwood. If only! Sandalwood is my favorite note. So, I layered this once just a few days ago with Samsara and it was a hit. Like Narciso EDP, Samsara EDP can be cloying in close proximity.
Next up: layering with plain patchouli oil, then another day, with coconut body cream.

Love this stuff. Have worn it for years. Then stopped wearing much fragrances through my pregnancies as I could not abide many smells without nausea. Now back to wearing perfume again. Agreed: ” It’s the lipgloss of perfume.” – very easy to wear for most occasions and a very soft comforting scent. If you are having a bad morning and have to drag yourself to work, put this on.
However, although it is NOT the same as what I used to wear. Less citrus and definitely does not last as long. All of which cannot be avoided because of regulations. Still a great deal. This is great to layer w/other fragrances, esp. ones that are very strong, it calms them down if they are shrieky.

Maybe it’s just me today but this scent is almost too relaxing for work! Would make an awesome addition to a bedtime routine for musk lovers. It’s soft but not faint; noticeable but not overpowering. Definitely a soft, powdery, sweet sandalwood-musk. I also got a hint of lemon. A get the Johnson & Johnson references; there is a bit of ‘freshly washed baby’ going on, but that’s not bad. I am using the oil, which I spread into moist skin. It’s more manageable than an Arabian oil, less powerful. Longevity about 4 hours. The bottle is chintzy and small with a screw on plastic cap that is a bit difficult. But overall, a good cozy white musk.

This is an incredibly beautiful scent in the opening, so warm and rich, inviting, it’s like a soft hug from a loved one. It is gentle, light, fades down quickly to a faint musk, leaving traces of sweet, cozy, fuzzy feelings.

I used to wear this ages ago and loved it, and am fortunate enough to still have a bottle of vintage in my refrigerator. I couldn’t pass up the chance to try the newer formulation (green cap on bottle) when I found it on clearance for $8.00.
At first I thought it was a wonderful reformulation – and I will say it remains more than rather true to the original: beautifully done musk with a touch of soft floral, a touch of sandalwoody base…but it’s not as well-rounded nor does it have the depth of the original to me. Then, unfortunately…I got hit with a chemical sharpness that I just can’t ‘unsmell,’ if you know what I mean, and it’s there for the duration, at least on me. Sadly, I won’t be keeping this.

    I have the perfume oil:
    1/2 powdery
    1/4 flowery
    1/4 musk
Reminds me of TouJours Moi on me, bUT more powdery.
    Calms me for sleep.

My mom and I both use this musk now, and it smells totally different on both of us. She mainly uses the spray version, and on her it’s the very natural, musky scent that one might expect, with a hint of black pepper. I have the oil version, and on me it is a warm, alluring combination of sweet and spicy with just an accent of woody musk. It at first reminded me of Christmas because all I could smell was sugar and spice, but it quickly calmed, followed by the emergence of the musk and sandalwood notes. Neither of us get the floral notes (the sweet scent for me smells desserty, not at all flowery). This perfume lasts moderately long on me, but on my mother seemingly lasts forever, and I’ve found the sillage rather tame, making it feel like a more intimate scent. I really like this, and for now am using it as my everyday scent. Brownie points for being so cheap, too!

  22. :

    3 out of 5

It’s nice but not really the type of musk I like. It’s a little overly sweet on my skin and I don’t really think it’s as safe as some people say in their reviews.
I’m finding it a little cloying and it’s caramely and vanillic white musk.
I like vintages and this oil is from 2014 so maybe the older one is nicer but I’ve yet to find one I could afford, let alone gambling on the condition. It’s very synthetic and harsh compered to my Jovan and Alyssa Ashley musk oils. The lingering skin scent is nice and it is quite affordable.

Why isn’t this the potent musk you remember? Two words: Nitro Musk! Banned in the US since 1979 they were in most if not all of the old musk oils. Contrary to what some believe “real” musk hasn’t been used in most mainstream fragrance for almost 100 years!
Nitro-musks were once used extensively in perfumery and are now largely prohibited in many countries because they can’t be fully cleaned out by sewage treatment plants and accumulate in fish and such. The kicker is that there is no conclusive proof that they’re actually harmful.
Polycyclic musks are mostly used in fragrance and londry products these days. They far inferior in strength, longevity and odor to the nitro musks.
Macrocyclic musks are also not a good replacement for nitro musks. Although they closely resemble the true scent of real deer (Tonkin) musk, half the human population are anosmic to it. That means there is 50% chance you can’t smell it! EVER! So fragrance companies use several musk chemicals in the hopes that you’ll smell atleast one! So now you know why fragrance can smell so much different between people.
Alicyclic musks I don’t know too much about, their sort of new but from what I’ve heard they are also no match for nitro musks.

Based on all the great reviews I purchased a small bottle of the oil. Thank God it wasn’t expensive, since on me it smells like baby oil and something really off putting. I was hoping for something similar to Perfect Veil, but this is just heavy and cloying, and I had to scrub. I’m saving up for Mona di Orio Musk, which is absolutely stunning, smooth, deep and sooo comforting. The higher price point illustrates higher quality ingredients and IMO always worth it.

  25. :

A sheer, crystalline musk with a hint of glossy sweetness. This is pure simplicity. It feels warm, with a solar musk vibe. It’s the simple smell of clean skin, with the tiniest hint of hairspray undertone (I actually like this!)
It’s about as offensive as taking a shower with Dial’s “Pure and Natural” soap and standing in the midday sunshine for a little while. In other words, if someone is offended by this, it’s them and not you. They might want to see a psychiatrist over it.
If you’re looking for a totally natural, simple scent, while still smelling like you put something on, “Skin Musk” is it.

This is nice. It’s a warm musk, a la Coty’s Wild Musk, decorated with some lavender and sandalwood. I wear either this or bodega Egyptian Musk oil on those occasions when I can’t be bothered to decide who I am and therefore what I should wear today.

    MMmmmmmm! <3
As soon as I applied this (the oil) it reminded me of my grandmother, and her Ponds cold cream or Oil of Olay (or Ulay as it used to be known) lotion, that she used to apply before bed.
Wonderful memories of a time gone by. An affordable little gem, for those in love with soft musks, or lovers of Coty Wild Musk.

A true gem in the world of Musks! My special recipe is to mix this with Auric Blends Egyptian goddess oil and either China Rain or Kuumba Made Persian Garden oil ( which smells almost identical to skin oil and I get it at Whole Foods ( I highly recommend it) I loved this scent as a child when family members wore it and then when I heard it’s Sarah Jessica Parker’s favorite perfume ever,I decided to try it in the oil form.It is soft, sensual, delicate and gentle with alluring super powers! I notice the baby powder vibe in the beginning but it mellows to a bewitching sandalwood in the dry down.Try it on your pulse points and let it warm up and let the magic begin

I tried this at Walgreens because another lady in front of me purchased 2 bottles at the make up counter. No sandalwood to be found as others mention. It’s straight Johnson’s baby oil times 5. If you like baby oil smell than you’ll love this. Atleast you won’t get all the greasiness feel.
I must think that it would take a certain kind of wood, flower and maybe vanilla or something to create baby powder smell, which i only care for on babies. Same must go for baby oil smell. Maybe sandalwood is there but i associate this with baby oil so much that i don’t detect that or a certain flower. Not for me but i can see how so many others would like this.

I’ve used this since it was made by Bonne Bell. I don’t notice that much of a difference between the BB version and the current Parfums de Coeur version. This is a warm, friendly scent that doesn’t overpower anyone. Very safe for office wear. Some of my heavier scents have been causing headaches for me, so I’ve relied on this scent a great deal lately. Skin Musk wears well in any season.

Hi new member longtime lurker. I too Love the old Bonne Bell Skin Musk and decided to try the new formula.. (I am speaking of the oil versions in this post.) ok it’s not totally the same but it was pretty close to my novice nose. and true was lighter and didn’t last as long. But Then today I purchased an oil with a sticker that read ORIGINAL LONG LASTING FORMULA. The box colors are slightly different, The juice is very different (darker ..kinda urine-y) and the scent is NOT what I remember at all. It has something in it I must be allergic to because it hit the back of my throat and felt like it lingered like a splinter…(and no i didn’t drink it..lol) first whiff was very woodsy but less sweet and creamy. dry down still had the sharp woodsy splinter to it but warmer.. Sigh Why can’t they just give us the original recipe? Again, my nose is a novice. Has anyone else bought the newest formulation with the sticker? In better news I have purchased a vintage bottle with the round gold cap and it is AHHHHH just lovely. But I got lucky on the price. Doubt that will happen again. would love to hear peoples responses 😉 !!

My favorite musk! Seriously. Cheap as chips but what a wonderful essence. This is the lip gloss of perfumes… it goes with every occasion or outfit, you can layer it easily with another perfume or you can just wear it alone for a soft “natural skin” baked in the sun. Downright impossible to over apply this one. I’m almost embarrassed to admit how many compliments I have received on Skin Musk. It’s so unpretentious and easily available. Almost feels like a secret weapon.

Wearing Skin Musk oil is like draping myself in a robe worn by some sort of ethereal saint that is receiving prayers and sandalwood incense. Clean, yet mysterious. Forget the cheap packaging; this deserves a sexier decanter… It needs something that looks like it belongs among the fetishes of a white magic witch. I need some mythology in my life among the fluorescent lights of my CVS and Walgreens so let me have my fantasy amidst the two-for-one cosmetics! A warning to you: no magic spell can be evoked with the spray version of Skin Musk unless you are aiming to provoke a visit from the Sneeze Fairy. I know the that patron saint of perfumes has been with me, for at the “ghetto” CVS, I found a gold capped bottle of Skin Musk oil (yes amongst the green caps in the year 2014)! So, are you the artistic yet professional type? Try the Skin Musk oil. When people get close and ask what you are wearing, you can raise a provocative brow and in a sultry tone reply, “That is my Skin.”

How in the world I only thought this scent came in the body spray form is beyond me. I was traveling a few weeks ago and was in a drug store to purchase a few travel necessities…walked by the glass & mirrored perfume shelves & stopped dead in my tracks. “It comes in OIL form?!?!?!” was the song of the happy perfume find bomb going off in my head. I practically threw the $12 at the cash register & poor woman running it to run out to my car to tear open my newly acquired gem. It was all I could have hoped for and more. Strong, but soft. Intense, but balanced. Potent, but calm. Dirty, but clean. Sexy, but sweet. Quiet, but pronounced.
I had only dabbed a bit on each inner wrist and behind my ears and could smell it on my t-shirt & in my hair the next day. I also noticed the smell had lingered in my car, probably intensified by the warm California sunshine.
All & all I can see why this is a staple & “go to” fragrance people return to again and again. I will continue to use the body spray (which I have always enjoyed and love to mix with other scents as well) & now I will make sure to have the oil in my collection as well.
There is a definite Egyptian Goddess/Egyptian Musk/China Rain/China Musk feel to this, so if you like those particular body oils, I can say with fair certainty you will enjoy Skin Musk as well.
Thank you all for the great reviews….which I read and appreciated all the more after my purchase. 🙂 Cheers!

A very light, clean white musk. Just a hint of citrus and a little wood and florals, but mostly a bit of a clean laundry musk. Comforting, simple, good for layering. I’m not sure this would stand out too much on its own except for maybe wearing around the house or casual use.

  36. :

I like to keep this wonderful little drugstore cheapie in my drawer at work to layer over whatever scent I’m wearing if I feel like I need a little freshening up in the afternoon. I can’t think of a single fragrance I own that this doesn’t mesh well with.
It opens with a mild, clean (lavender?) note that quickly settles down into a creamy (rather than powdery) sandalwood. It’s less powdery than Jovan White Musk and less animalic than Jovan Musk. This just smells like clean, warm skin to me. I adore it.

Can’t compare to the original oil with gold
Cap. The sweetness is gone. That unique
Sweet juice paired with soft musk.
It smells like musky baby powder now.
    * sigh*

Fresh green opening – wish this was the dry down.
On my skin the dry down is soft musky sandalwood.
I have mixed this with TBS vanilla to prolong the scent and to sweeten it. It then resembles along the lines of Sage Pearl.
I wish i was fortunate to have smelt the pre-reformulated version – sounds amazing.

  39. :

Since they reformulated it, it’s just too chemical smelling to me, kind of flat. It used to almost have a green smell to it, & then became warm & sweet, almost like a baby’s cheek. Loved it.

How I love Skin Musk, let me count the ways:
    1. It is an instant babe-a-fier. The trick is not to douse yourself in this at all. If you are sparing with the musk, it can be your secret weapon. People remember you more attractively.
    2. It doesn’t scream “think I’m sexy!”. In fact, it doesn’t scream. It hangs back like an ember in the fire, ready to ignite anything it touches but otherwise, quietly glowing.
    3. It’s the lipgloss of perfume. When you are having a low maintenance moment, it’s there to simplify your life. On those days when your entire perfume wardrobe feels like “too much”, you can wear this in the same fashion you can wear your favorite lipgloss. It’s simple, flattering, comfortable and you only need a finger dab of it.
    4. You can babe-a-fy/customize/completely defile other perfumes with it. What a bastard invention, this stuff. No one will ever recognize your lovely custom concoction, but they will certainly remember YOU. Try it over just about anything anything in your collection and damn if it isn’t just that much sexier.
    5. People neither love/hate/know/recognize/care about it. To me, a bottle of Skin Musk is as ubiquitous in my house as a bottle of aspirin and to most others it is equally unmemorable. But it leaves a subconscious impression.
    6. It is so friendly on your pocketbook, why even bother with Perfect Veil? It is the LITERAL perfect veil already, price point included.
    7. There is no poor occasion or season for it, when well-applied. Very sexy in jeans, VERY sexy in black tie and in between.
See? It’s my opinion that Skin Musk is one of the few virtually fool-proof creations in the industry of perfume. I hope they never, ever stop making it.

I’m of the opinion that if a fragrance smells great on you, wear it. An expensive price tag or complexity in a fragrance doesn’t mean it will work with your chemistry. Skin musk is simple, clean, sexy, comforting. It is appropriate at any time – day or night. It is warm enough for Winter and fresh enough for Summer. I believe it is a little more complex than the notes listed, though. On my skin, the oil opens with a lemony smell that quickly settles down into a soft sandalwood with a hint of musk and citrus. I don’t find it powdery. Musks were all the rage when I was growing up, but I’ve never really liked them. Skin is the exception, and I always keep a bottle on hand.

Oh I like this very much!
Judging by the bottle and price, one would think this would be cheap and tawdry but its very subtle and delicate. Something very creamy and appealing, even the body spray which I have been using lasts at least 10 hours. After this review I cant wait to try the oil.
Im going to experiment layering it with sweet scents like La Belle est Vie and perhaps in summer something more fruity. Not a heavy musk at all.
My little boy said it smells yummy 🙂

My go-to fragrance. Whenever it’s too hot, too cold, too humid, I have a headache to wear my other perfumes, I wear this one. Musk is a mysterious note to me because sometimes it has cloying quality to it, luckily not in this case. Skin Musk opens up green and woody and quickly develops into very smooth and comfortable skin smell. A “cheappy” and a “gooddy.”

I can barely remember the original, mostly because when it was popular, I was having some bad reactions to musk. However, now this problem seems to have improved and I can enjoy musk again, within moderation.
I recently purchased the deodorant body spray. I found that I have to overapply, as Skin Musk sits a little TOO close to my skin if I don’t. (I think the oil will be stronger, and will purchase some soon).
However, it is a lovely scent, not as soapy as some “clean musks”. There is a powdery note which smells like lavender and very soft violets, mixed with the musk and a very creamy sandalwood. The sandalwood is more noticeable in the drydown.
Longevity and sillage are not bad, although again I think the perfume oil may be a better choice for me.
I do love Skin Musk, as it is an excellent musk for daytime and work.
Update: I bought the oil, and it is stronger than the spray, but works best if the oil is applied after the spray has dried.

Skin Musk: The first perfume I ever bought. You couldn’t have told me there was anything in the world sexier than this fragrance. (Okay, I was just 19 at the time that I formulated this opinion but it stood for many years.) There are a lot of scents that I enjoy, but Skin Musk is truly the only one that I craved. I would have worn this even if no one else in the world liked it but me.
Despite that level of enthusiasm, I stopped buying Skin Musk a long time ago. It’s only been in recent months that I’ve started wearing scent again and that’s mostly because I love the way it elevates my mood and gives me a feeling of added confidence.<br /
