This is a weird one..I was excited by all the reviews. Vanilla? No. Incense? No. Fruit? No.
Truly don’t know what the heck I’m smelling. Wood? Maybe. Not impressed.
In the giveaway box it goes. Thank goodness it was only $9
And if there’s cinnamon in here..it must be 100 yrs old non scented cinnamon.

Silk Way is one of the very few, true ETHEREAL perfumes I own/have smelled. The gentleness of this creation is so perfect that it both delights and frustrates me. The frustration comes from my desire to constantly have a scent in my nose…to almost be overwhelmed by scent at all times of the day. Silk way is a tease. I am teased by soft whispers and delicate wafts and I really have no control over how often I get to smell and how much….no matter how much I spray…it’s weird like that but I just go with it because I love it so. It’s a shifty vixen…..peeping up at unexpected moments. For me, cedar is dominant but not sharp as cedar often can be but tempered by the roundness of vanilla and softened even more by the sensual notes of smoke, cinnamon and musk. My husband tried to steal it from me! “Get your own damn bottle” I said….”this is mine!” But really, it’s one of my new favorites.

I got few compliments from my colleagues at work. SILK way is soft and smooth as silk. Lasting power is only about 2-3 hours. Enjoy Xx

i just bought this one few days ago, when i first put it on it smells of aniseed balls (sweets) then it changed in to a masculine smell reminded me of my boyfriends after shave for a little bit then when it settled down it smelt more girly and cute but that quickly fades and it just smells like scented baby powder. its very soft and faint, the fabric conditioner on my jumper had a stronger smell than the perfume i wish it was a bit more noticeable i like people to get a waft of my new perfume as i walk past and think”hmmm she smells nice” but with this one i think only me or anyone i hug or pull close can smell it. i am not sure if i would buy it again as its not very strong i like my clothes and the air around me to smell of my scent.i would love i if it was not so weak

This has potential, but right now… it smelled like someone spilled original blue Tide in Dior Addict. I get the gourmand-y dark/spicy vanilla notes I was after (bourbon vanilla is my absolute favorite), but something soapy and sharp ruins it.
I’m willing to keep trying it, since I have a cheap tester bottle from ebay. 😉
Maybe my bottle is off? Where is that Tide smell coming from??

This is much more airy than I expected. It’s creamy, soft and gentle. In my mind I see the milky color and consistency of cold, unfiltered sake when I smell it. It has sort of a rice pudding thing going on, but not a dense custard type rice pudding made with butter and cream. This is a light, fluffy rice pudding made with jasmine rice and coconut water, not even coconut milk, the light coconut water. It has some cinnamon lightly dusted on the top and maybe even a hint of far away pipe tobacco smoke drifting in an open window. The people who say this is a strong scent must usually wear extremely light fragrances because this is a very subtle oriental.

I get so much sandalwood in this one and I’m surprised it is not listed as a note. I get a very creamy, dry, sandalwood. The opening is more complex, but then the fragrance quickly fades to the sandalwood note, also goes slightly sweet…ever so slightly. From then on, it’s pretty linear. I like it, though. I find sandalwood to be very comforting. I will have to spend more time with this one, but I think it will be nice in the colder months or as a “one spritz” before bedtime fragrance.

Silk Way was suggested to me in my search for dark vanillic scents. Immediately, it intrigued me: “Silk Way was born of the raw materials that once traveled the legendary road from East to West.”
What an incredible vision for a fragrance, and what an intriguing point in history to draw inspiration from! And Silk Way definitely delivers. It’s got a cool & breezy silkiness, just as the name implies. The spiciness is mouth-watering and exotic. It’s smooth, sensual, and has an almost “wet” quality, which makes me think of rain and thunderstorms. My only regret in blind-buying Silk Way is not having found it sooner!
As for its resemblance to Barbara Bui’s Le Parfum, I’ll reiterate my thoughts on their similarities from my BB review: After finally trying them side-by-side, the differences are clear. Actually, I think the color of each fragrance explains the difference quite well: Barbara Bui is a sensual warm amber & woody blend with a powdery quality; Silk Way seems ‘cooler’ – a light incensey musk & damp, dewy cedar. Both are worth trying, especially for the incredible price. Though my preference definitely lies with sleek & mysterious Silk Way.

On me it is very intense and strong. Fantastic quality!!!!
Just a small amount of apple hidden in the background, otherwise it is strong, rounded spices, mostly incense. At the first hours there is no trace of vanilla. Only the drydown contains some amount of it with a sligthly sweet breath.
On my skin it is not apple pie, or any kind of treats. It is a close relative of Donna Karan’s Black Cashmere. I am delighted!!!!!
I thought it was ligther, milder, but it is a serious beauty.
    Outstanding!!!!
Like dark lavendery, grey coloured silk, pearls, smoke. Church and decadence. Strenght and melancholy.

Yes this is very similar to Barbara Bui, perhaps a bit smoother/softer and weaker. You get the spice and woody/incense in all it’s niche/unisex glory, IMO. Not much in the way of florals or anything else. It’s a touch sweet, and some might perceive it as a little powdery, but not animalic nor syrupy. A very good deal at current prices if this is what you are seeking.

Blind buy, from Fragrantica reviews. Very soft but nice. I like my perfumes a little more “here I am” but this is very nice to wear and non offensive. I am happy with my purchase and will wear it from time to time. I do agree it reminds me of Barbara Bui, which I had at one time. I keep getting the scent when I move around and I must say, I do love it. It was well worth the buy. I’m thinking that I get the apple, vanilla, cinnamon, amber and Peony. Love it!

The top notes and the dry down are so lovely and soft and if you like Opium Yves Saint Laurent for women but find it too heady, you will love the base notes of Silk Way as it’s an extremely faint and soft version of Opium.

Aww, what a lovely scent… With my slightly alkaline skin pH, I was not sure what to expect. Silk Way sits perfectly on my skin, from the first moment. I can smell apple, a lot of apple in the head notes, and some cinnamon. After around half an hour, comes the incense. This fades away though and within one hour or so, my skin smells of apple, again, and vanilla, perhaps with a hint of cognac – as someone pointed out already – and certainly some cinnamon. It is a lovely scent, close to the skin, very creamy, not sweet – just like an unsweetened apple pie with a whiff of cream and cognac. No trace of incense on me though, I do not detect any woodsy notes either. I love it – have been wearing it on a very hot day, today, and felt very comfortable. However, I feel that this scent will make me equally cosy on a cold winter day, but then I will use it a bit more lavishly perhaps. Wonderfully feminine composition.
Update: And yes, it is a smoky vanilla with apple, cinnamon and cognac. A delight, and long lasting on my skin.

This scent completely takes me back to my 17th year…going to the beach in the morning to get a great spot- laying out towels and applying sun tan lotion- not the coconut kind, the warm buttery vanilla type- fast forward to 5 hours later when the salt, sand and sun have soaked in and the heat rising off your ocean cleansed skin is pure summer. This reminds me of the body oil that Tom Ford did for estee lauder years ago- I love this-
edit- 2 hours later and it is even more beautiful- this is how I’ve always wanted a scent to smell- I just bought 2 more bottles- my new signature.

What can I say, suddenly I am in love! I got it in a multi swap about a year ago, tried it, it was nice, put it away. Now I am making myself a group of spring fragrances, to give everything in my wardrobe a chance, and I spray this again this morning. Such a lovely warm and cozy vanilla, a bit of musk and insence and I just sniff and sniff and sniff myself and I am in heaven. It’s a nasty cold and rainy day in May and this is a total pick-me-up.
Every whiff I caught in my yoga class was an inspiration. I am happy to rediscover it. I am a Ted Lapidus fan in general, Creation and Fou d’elle among my most favorites, they deliver so much for so little money. I also have a TL that I got in a swap recently and didn’t even try yet. Now it will definitely get it’s turn tomorrow.

Silk Way is a truly beautiful fragrance. Soft cedar blended with cinnamon and incense makes me think of exotic spiced teas. Soft peach and apple juices expertly blended with gentle flowers give Silk Way a completely natural sweetness, not sugary or candy-like. The deep bourbon vanilla, sweet amber and soft white musk anchor the scent, creating a smooth, silky base.
Silk Way smells expensive, classy, unique, and feminine.
Silage is moderate to soft, and longevity is a minimum of 8 hours on my skin. I feel like I want to drown in this gorgeous mixture, drink it, bathe in it, absorb it, delighted to let it envelope me completely. I will definitely buy Silk Way again and again. I can’t imagine ever being without it. Just gorgeous !

After hearing raves about this on the Makeupalley.com fragrance board I decided to give it a try since on ebay Silk Way is dirt cheap. Wow…I was very surprised by the sillage and longevity of this scent for the discount price. I got whiffs all day of vanilla/incensey goodness. After this is on several hours the incense really stands out. This reminds me of Adam Levine EDP, which I also love, but Silk Way doesn’t sit as close to the skin which makes it better in my book but some may feel differently. I highly recommend this one for the incense lovers!

I am not getting much fruit from this at all, maybe some of soft roundness of the red peach, but for sure no apple. This fragrance on my skin leads with cedar and incense…and something a little like hawthorn but I am not sure what it is. The dry down is lovely, a skin scent that wafts around me subtly but is only barely detectable nose to skin. This will be a good one for work, as it is DEFINITELY an incense scent, but a soft approachable one, a caress more than a massage.

The opening smells a lot like Hilary Duff With Love. It’s not as spicy/mango-ish after the initial blast, but there’s the occasional whiff of something close to it. Mostly, Silk Way is a comforting incense, with almost a touch of fruit, and some slight cinnamon in the middle there. The drydown is airy, buddhist temple incense. Instant-love because it reminds me of the incense my grandmother used to burn.

  22. :

    5 out of 5

Not much floral to my nose. As the name suggests, I get a silky, woodsy, creamy incense. As the scent dries down there is a slight powdery umbrella that pulls all the notes together.
This could certainly be a unisex scent. It doesn’t sit too close to the skin, so you can catch wafts of the notes as you move. It brings to mind wool suits, fine makeup and leather luggage.

  23. :

Replica of Barbara Bui, Ted is nice pleasant with a sweet cognac notes, average longevity, great for summer or bed time, soft and sexy.

I agree with the previous review, this is a strange fragrance. And hence the reviews differ.
On me it is a cloying vanilla sprayed on fresh wooden boards together with an over-ripened green apple with brown spots. Unfortunately, I don’t find the cinnamon or smokey incense I was hoping for. Nor was it aldehydic on me.
Then again, I’ve never been fond of vanilla and especially not gourmand scents. If any friend would ask me for a “creamy sweet gourmand with a sincere wooden twist” then I would gladly hand them my bottle. Godspeed!

  25. :

    4 out of 5

Strange fragrance, i got it on a sale. Not bad, interesting and different, if you like sweet frags.
    Good longevity and sillage.
I just wish the colour of the liquid in the bottle was lighter lilac…its exactly like the picture, beigy / brownish lilac…that adds to its weirdness.
I find that i use this frag rather seldom.

  26. :

    5 out of 5

On me, it’s predominantly wood– kind of like what I would smell if I stick my head in the drawer plus a little fruity sweetness. Not a bad smell but not something that I want to wear.

  27. :

    5 out of 5

Rounded fruit and flower combination but the wood notes come up dusty and overpowering on me and take away the pleasure in the other notes, making it smell very same-y to other sandalwood heavy scents on the market. It’s clearly of better quality than most, smoother, richer, but it’s not different enough for me.

This is my second TL frag and yet another blind buy that I am SO GLAD I made! This fragrance is just intoxicating. It opened softly with this woody, cedar mist that was very masculine at first. I was really unsure of how I felt about it at that point. But within five minutes or so it blossomed into a warm vanilla haze, layered with the cedar and musk. It’s been on me now for about an hour and the cinnamon is just starting to show up, in a very subtle, soft way. The incense and amber make just sensual enough to keep it interesting. I want to spray this on all my lingerie, my bedsheets…it is the most feminine fragrance I’ve ever used and I’m by no means uber-girly. But this frag makes me feel pretty, sexy and embraceable. Love it! **See my review for Oscar de la Renta “Live in Love”** I refer to TL Silk Way there! (Very, very similar on the drydown…)

  29. :

    3 out of 5

Sweet vanilla, peach and sparkly citrus notes for the first minutes, woody base is peeking out almost immediately. After five minutes I can detect a weird dill note, but at that time the incense note started to be apparent even ever so slightly, so all together it’s blended into something oriental and spicy, making the name – Silk Way – very appropriate.
Alas, I find strong resemblance to Crystal Noir at this stage, that’s when I stopped liking Silk Way. But a good news for numerous lovers of Crystal Noir – roughly the same thing for fewer buck.
UPD: no dill when it’s cold outside. Liking it all the way! Smokey lovely vanilla, not sweet.

    5 out of 5

It’s rainy and cool here in the mid-west and for some reason this really appealed to me today! It’s the spiced fruits in it that are really nice….this is great in cold weather too. But something about it, even though it is a balmy vanilla with smoke and spice, it’s “thin” enough for warmer weather, if that makes sense. The incense is what I love best about it. Dry, sweet, smokey but not “churchy” or “head shoppy” in any way. this is a very sophisticated scent. and you cannot beat the price – I got mine in a swap, but I know another member here who got her’s for around 25.00. the bottle is really pretty with it’s lavender colored liquid and silver silk wrapped cording around the neck. The perfume over all reminds me of a spiced cider with some dry, sweet incense burning in the background. When I first smelt this I was shocked, not expecting what it is at all. it’s definitely not a “fruity floral” in the traditional sense. But the scent grew on me to the point where I actually craved smelling it the next day. It’s very unusual and for that I would suggest testing it first, yet on the other hand it’s so reasonable that a blind buy of this wouldn’t be tragic if you didn’t like it. You could always gift it to me ;-p
Thanks to Teebird for this in my very first swap when i joined here last year. to say i am behind on my reviews is an understatement, lol
I love the dry down of this, mostly cinnamon (yum-you cinnamon frag lover’s need this in your wardrobe because it stays from start to finish), vanilla, crisp apple and that sweet smokey incense in the background. This is love <3
Sillage – moderate, stays pretty close to the skin after the 4th hour
    Longevity – 5-7 hours
    Overall 7/10

I used to love this one. I really liked its smoky spiciness [still don’t get any floral-fruity notes, though].
But over time it has turned so synthetic, I can hardly bear it…
    What a pity!

Nice! This smells like cinnamon spiced eggnog sometimes cinnamon spiced rice pudding on me. Creamy, sweet and spicy. Yum! Fades down close to my skin fairly quick though.

  33. :

A comforting creamy scent with a vanillic, steamed rice note that I also detect in Kenzo Amour. I also detect quite a bit of cedarwood. A lesser known gem worth trying out. Fairly inexpensive given the quality. Like another reviewer, I cannot smell it very strongly but my hubby notices and loves it!!

  34. :

    3 out of 5

Sprayed it 10 minutes ago, so it may be a bit early, but if the sillage is good, I know it’s going to be one of my top gourmands. Sweet, a bit anise-y, woods and balmy, creamy apricot at the beginning, and cinnamon is stepping into it just about now.I can detect sweet amaretto or eggnog, but it may be just the bourbon vanilla, not sure. Something I’d want to wear in the winter night out or dark cold November day. I’m hoping it won’t become too sweet soon as it’s developing. Nevertheless, it doesn’t project far away from the skin, so ok for indoors.

This is a strange one. It truly is silk in that it is so gentle and soft. My nephew said I smelled like cupcakes! I my husband woke me up from a nap and said “mmmm you smell good, your perfume is still on”. Weird thing is…I can NOT smell this on me! What I do get is warm and inviting directly after I apply but in 5 mins it’s gone (to me) but not to everyone else. This is an office/church perfume but a lovely one…..I think I am just used to powerhouse perfumes….but I have to say this is a lovely, sweet departure. ☺
P.S. This is labeled as a floral fruity…I smell mainly woods and vanilla.

I was always intriged to try Ted Lapidus fragrance for women as the men’s fragrance smells really nice to me. It is very woodsy and sensual so I recommend this more for nightime use but I’m not really impressed with the strength as I find it disappears after one hour of wearing it and this is supposed to be edp. One the whole it is a very warm and sexy smell but just let down by the lasting power.

I don’t get any of the gourmand notes ( apple, cream, vanilla) that most reviewers are getting.Tesstures review speaks to me more than the others about this perfume.
Aldehydes above all else( very soapy)and cedar are the most dominant notes to my nose.It smells classic and sophisticated, like a 50s/60s perfume.
    Very beautiful and classy.

Silk Way is a soft and subtle oriental skin scent that is perfect to warm you up on those cold winter nights.
Initially, this scent smells to me just like apple pie, hot from the over. Juicy, hot green apples with a hearty dash of warm cinnamon.
As it dries down, I get more of the deep, smoky incense and creamy vanilla, which is really a fabulous accompaniment to the spicy cinammon. It is rounded off with a touch of musk and amber.
The entire composition of this scent is very smooth and well…silky.
It doesn’t have huge sillage…it wears very close to the skin in the much same way that silk itself does. The lasting power is only around 4-5 hours, but I love to reapply this one often anyway, so that I get to experience the “hot apple pie” scent over and over again.
A great, inexpensive perfume with a cute bottle, and an excellent comfort fragrance for the brisk days of winter and the holiday season.

As my nose has a memory, a little jaded now as the years kick in, it took some time for me to remember what Silk Way reminded me of. It has now dawned upon me…If anyone out there remembers “Big Charlie Bubble Gum”, a very long piece of gum in a wrapper of pink, blue plastic?… correct me if I fail this wrapper, from the 70’s…. Rather something I was not allowed to buy, or could get my hands on easily…..lol….But when I did, I was in bubble gum heaven and I would portion out the gum stick in small amounts, with its pink, musky, floury appearance,(I don’t mean flowery) so it would last until I could get some more…. and that was rare….
I find this fume bringing fond memories of those days, it is a little unexpected luxury, not strong but not weak, kinda comforting and in no way intrusive to our sensitive nostrils.
Top notes last for about 3-5 mins, and the base notes emerge and mellow out like soft pillows of feathers….
Is really a heaven scent if you can endure something so light and fluffy…. Enjoy…x

I agree with mahanta it REALLY does smell like Barbara Bui Le Parfum. I’m not really getting the incense but rather cinnamon with cedar, creamy vanilla & a touch of citrus.

  45. :

I am personally really enjoying this fragrance!
Silk Way has nothing to do with floral fruity…it’s an all around oriental, from beginning to end.
I wonder if the notes are correct as well, because I am not getting any fruits. It reminds me of sweet fresh coffee with hazelnut creamer and sprinkled with cinnamon….just wonderful!
This is not a heavy fragrance,it doesn’t have that oppressive thick quality. Silk Way is a very smooth composition, it has that crystal clear, lucid scent of more expensive fragrances, no muddled notes here.
The sillage is great, it projects really well, and i can continuously enjoy it for a few hours.
Some people say it’s boring. I’m not sure what boring means in others’ eyes, but to me boring is something flat, linear, with weak sillage and longevity. And Silk Way possesses none of these traits, not to my nose at least. Yes, it’s a casual fragrance, but it does have a unique personality, and I have nothing to compare it to from my big collection at the moment. It feels a little bit like Trussardi Inside, but it’s a distinctively different scent.
The simple clear bottle looks very elegant too. Lovely blind buy, definitely a keeper for me!

  46. :

    3 out of 5

Surprising that no-one has mentioned that Barbara Bui Le Parfum and Silk Way might be twin sisters!? As the top notes are gone in a couple of seconds, the incense-y beauty appears and at least on my skin it is 1:1 with BB. However, if many people find similarities between BB and SR “Women not for men”, there are no big similarities between SR and Silk Way – SR is much more peppery and light-hearted. The longevity is quite decent. Rich, creamy, smokey – a wonderful comfort scent for long, chilly autumn evenings;)

Bought this one on a whim. Won’t be doing that anytime soon. This fragrance does not WOW me to say the least. Somehow I’m still waiting for something more to develop once applying it. Maybe I need to be more patient or maybe I’ll just be waiting for a very very long long time for something interesting to happen. Never knew just how boring Vanilla could get.
Edit: Tried it the second time around, sorry but just keep getting same results. Must be my skin chemistry. Even on just applying it I don’t get any fruity or floral notes. It’s as if the entire fragrance is made up of only the base notes to my nose. All I get from start to finish is amber, vanilla & incense. On a long awaited drydown it’s still incensy vanilla, which I’m not all that crazy about or maybe the combination of it. Sorry but to no avail this fragrance still does not like my skin. Awesome for those it seems to agree with.

Purchased this based on reviews. Not always a great idea. It is nice but at first it reminded me of the old Coty Wild Musk I wore in grade school in the 70’s.
It opens a little masculine with the cedar but that that quickly fades. It warms up to a sweet vanilla-y powder, nice and creamy, but that quickly fades. Then it’s powder, powder, powder, but that quickly fades. IOW, it doesn’t last long.
I do like it though. I can see it as an evening out scent. It might last long enough for that.
Oh, and it’s very strong. I will use it but only sparingly.
Edited to add: The problem with using it sparingly is that it is so short-lived. I found that when I re-apply it after lunch it goes sour on me. Not sure what that’s all about. I am using it and enjoying it in the mornings, but it is gone long before lunch. I may have to save this one for evening only.
ETA 8-20-10: Okay, I really do love this scent. I have found that there are times of the month that my skin chemistry goes wacko, and nothing smells good on me. I tested several things with my daughter last weekend, and all of them took on that sour “perfume-gone-bad” smell. Don’t listen to me previous review. Silk Way is a really fabulous scent. One of my favorite blind buys!

This one is for all the vanilla oriental heavy fragrances lovers out there. I don’t like it very much because sadly i find it a little bit boring and not too interesting, i don’t see how it developes into something deeper…

  50. :

After perusing the notes, which look devine, I purchased this one on a whim.
It’s probably one of the best perfume choices I’ve made. Simply stunning.
This is not a fruity floral…it’s a vanilla/slightly spicy oriental all the way. The peach and cedar dominate the top with a dash of cinnamon warmth. This quickly melds into the delightful vanilla and incense base which is creamy, smokey and sultry.
There is nothing light or casual about this one. It is deep and dark, made for the night.
Any brave and confident woman who loves incense scents should love it, no matter her age.

  51. :

I tried this on at a friend’s and was surprised by the complexity, as she usually goes for fruity floral fluff. It is what I would definitely term a formal scent, being a strongly Aldehydic Floral. It goes on with a sweet candy start over a powdery base, hinting of talc. The aldehydes impart the sensation of sparkling metal, perhaps jewelry, but somehow remain warm, like skin. There are fruit notes overall, but in an old-style French fashion, not as a sugared pink modern conconction. Elegant and yes, as mellybee says, decadent. It feels expensive and still comfortable at the same time. Lovely and layered, it smells like a glorious evening out in black silk and jewels, made up, looking great, escorted by a handsome man in a tux…it’s dream stuff. Unfortunately for me, it gradually takes on a note that I can only describe as ‘medicated foot powder.’ Other expensive old style perfumes have done this on me, En Avion to name one, and it’s always disappointing. Without that sticky mentholated powdery note–and it’s very faint, mind you–this would be a perfect scent. On others, it will be. On me, it’s only perfect for a little while, but it’s so very lovely for that short time.

I found Silk Way in my local perfumery lately and I’m quite surprised that this little gem is not reviewed yet.
Silk Way was an ancient trade route that linked China, India, Persia and the Mediterranean countries for over two thousand years. Silk was carried westward, while wool, gold, and silver were carried eastward.
The creator’s ambition might be to marry the most rare and precious materials, that have travelled the legendary road as the perfume’s notes are among others Italian citron, Atlas Cedarwood, Sambac Jasmin, Ceylon Cinnamon, Incense, White Musk and Bourbon Vanilla .
Silk Way opens with fruity notes but they bear no relation to the cloying synthetic fruity accords that embroider many feminin composition these days.
A dry note of cedar softens the sweetness of the fruits before the flowers reveal themself.
The entire composition rests on the vanilla-incense combination smelling as a vanilla flavoured cigar. (It seems to be my skin chemistry since every perfume with incense note turns into smoky on me.)
Honestly I was a bit afraid to try this fragrance as an another perfume of Ted Lapidus was an unpleasant olfactory experience for me, but Silk Way has a decadent feel of a silk dress and I so dreadfully want to add it to my collection.
