Description

“And what love can do that dares love attempt” William Shakespeare

Shakespeare in Love is a red rose composition and the most powerful of all three. The sweet freshness of juicy pear is generously sprinkled over the petals folded in the heart. They open up passionately soon after the first fragrant wave will be gone, shaking off cheerful sweet drops of the initial impression. The pear is still there, hidden in blooms while its cool moisture balances the edgy note of jasmine. The rose shines brightly and its whisper turns into a powerful monologue. Shakespeare in Love was launched in 2011. The nose behind this fragrance is Lynn Emmolo.

It smells exactly like it’s name, a dozen roses. It’s a nice fragrance but it’s my least favorite Usually when I smell a fragrance inspired by Roses it has that dirty, old rose smell to it but this smells like fresh, beautiful roses. I have a sample of it that I haven’t tested yet but on the card it had that fresh rose smell

Fragrance Review For Shakespeare In Love A Dozen Roses
    Top Notes: Pear
    Middle Notes: Rose Jasmine Gardenia
    Base Notes: Vanilla Woodsy Notes
This is a really nice floral fragrance. I’m not as impressed by it as other reviewers on here as it kind of reminded me of Rose de France by Historiae, although this scent lasts longer and has more pronounced vanilla as well as woods. I think its’ the woods that give it that Shakespearean vibe. When I think of Shakespeare and woods I think of the old Globe Theater which was all woods and easily caught fire. This smells like an old Tudorian house made entirely of woods. But there are flower vases filled with English roses. It’s definitely a big rose perfume but it’s also layered with vanilla and additional flowers namely a gardenia and jasmine. If you like rose plus white floral notes this should satisfy your craving. It’s as much a white floral as it is a rose. It’s very flowery very womanly mature romantic and elegant. Formal. I can’t imagine anyone wearing this to a PTA meeting. This is a wedding perfume a Valentines Day perfume, romantic dinner date perfume. I like it but I was not blown away. I wish there had been more flowers and more aromatic touches. I don’t think it smells mysterious, nor even Elizabethan, just a very nice rose perfume. There is also a sweet very detectable pear fruit scent.

Absolutely beautiful. This was a gift and it’s a gift that keeps on giving. It’s a glorious rose perfume. Luxurious, plush, velvet, smells like a huge long dark blood red colored drapes inside an English manor house. The curtains are embroidered with red roses. This is all about red roses. The fragrance starts with some aldehydes (not listed) but they are not too strong, just sharp. The pear in the opening notes is giving it this sharpness or spiciness. A beautiful red rose scent permeates throughout the heart of the fragrance. It’s accompanied by an equally strong gardenia and jasmine. Have you ever smelled roses gardenias and jasmines together in one bouquet? That’s some powerful stuff. It can wake the dead. But have no fear. There is enough vanilla and soft woods in the base to keep it from becoming one of those obnoxious perfumes that wears the wearer. You have total control over this intensely floral perfume. Don’t spray too liberally. I spray on my neck and just over the neckline of my blouse to get the scent to project. It’s an evening perfume, a Valentines Day perfume, romantic dinner date, and maybe just maybe if I come to love it enough, my wedding day perfume. This is a rose and white flower combination that smells very expensive. It perfectly captures the spirit of the movie Shakespeare In Love and even evokes the Elizabethan period. It wears like one of Shakespeare’s sonnets, it’s Juliet’s perfume. It’s a romantic vision of that mysterious Dark Lady in Shakespeare’s sonnet, a woman out of the long ago in a dark veil who walks slowly and gracefully with a floral bouquet in a mansion, but we don’t know anything about her. She is a ghost but she wants to come back to life and finish that love story that Shakespeare could not finish himself. The fragrance I feel is a bit too on the romantic and floral side to be Goth, but yet it has a slightly Gothic vibe. It’s also like something that could have come out of the late 90’s around the same time as Vivienne Westwood’s Boudoir. It’s rosy, strong, white floral, elegant, mysterious and haunting. I’m in love with this perfume. I wonder if the guy who gave it to me as a gift is sending me a message lol

This is roses on acid. I don’t find it subtle, dusty or musky. Just amped up and psychedelic. I do like it, find it uniique. Not much like Lola or Nanette Lepore, both of which I also adore.
Update: Softens after 15 minutes, then becomes sweet and cozy, just like my beloved Caron Nocturnes.

I got it in a swap for some stuff that I was happy to get rid off, fully concious that it is for sale for 10$ in TJMaxx.
The bottle is nice and heavy and made in France. The top reminded me of the top on my YSL Cinema.
I am not a rose lover but recently decided to be more curious and try more rose scents. This one on me does not smell like much rose, mostly I smell juicy pear. Longevity is not bad, it’s been 9 hours and it is still very much present. My DH however detected the rose right away and said that it smells on me like Juliette Has a Gun Miss Charming which actually awakened my curiosity about rose.

As the previous reviewer stated the bottles are gorgeous from this line. Definitely a conversation piece and would look gorgeous on a bathroom shelf.
I also must concur with her thoughts on the price tag for these fragrances is somewhat absurd.
I have tried the Amber one and also Angel face both of which are not bad at all. This one however is another story. While I dislike leaving a negative review I must say this particular scent is not pleasant at all to my nose. I am trying to decide what it reminds me of and sadly I must say room spray. It does not seem appropriate for the body? Something is very strange with this one. I must say however the bottle is fantastic and I will hang on to this strictly for the display of the lovely bottle.

Do you love the smell of dryer sheets? I know I do, and “dryer sheets” is the first thing I thought when I sniffed this perfume. It’s very clean and pleasant but still warm. I get a juicy note from the pear (although not a distinctive pear note if that makes sense) and a combination of florals and cedar that combines perfectly into Bounce dryer sheets. I think this would be lovely after a workout and shower, it feels very clean and smells very nice. However, this is not anything mind-blowing or special. I definitely don’t get rose from it. I’ll be keeping the little decant I have, but am glad I didn’t buy the full bottle. I like it well enough, but it would take up space I’d rather use for more special scents. It would work really well as a laundry spray or room freshener though!

The rose in this fragrance reminds me so much of the rose in Elizabeth Arden’s True Love – there’s a powdery, makeup smell to the fragrance as a whole. It’s classic, romantic. I smell the pear and the rose in equal amounts at first, then the powder factor grows in prominence. I am going to guess that it’s the vanilla combining with the rose and pear even though I don’t recognize the note as actual vanilla.
I had to have this perfume because of the name (I adore anything Shakespeare) and the bottle… The fragrance is nice, but I like other offerings from A Dozen Roses much better.

Shakespeare in Love by A Dozen Roses smells extremely similar to L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani. To me this smells like vintage roses, a little dusty with a very distinct pear note. I do not get any vanilla or gardenia, but I can definitely detect the woody notes and the jasmine in the dry down. This is just one of those fragrances you have to wait for the dry down to really appreciate the full complexity of the scent. The bottle is beautiful and the Romeo & Juliet concept is charming, but this fragrance just does not suit my taste. Fortunately I was able to swap it!

This is a very soft, light rose. On the drydown I smell jasmine which is reminding me of Alien. Lasting power is really short on me, maybe only two hours. It smells similar to the mini roses growing in my yard, light yet noticeably a rose.

I just found this in Marshall’s for $10 and figured I’d give it a twirl. It’s very light, very basic, very linear with just roses to my nose and not long lasting at all. The bottle is gorgeous so I’ll it give it that but that’s about it.
I cannot see paying that $125 price tag and feel it’s a shame to even charge that – I feel this should be a powerhouse and I should have to scrub it off the next day – not have it wear it off in 3 hours.

I’m not getting any distinct rose at all. In fact, on my skin, it seems to be a rather generic floral musky scent.

It smells like when you re in a rose garden. It s a nice fragrant, but I wouldn’t use it on a long term. It s not really my style, my dressing style is not compatible with this perfume. It has a vanilla aroma in it, I think this aroma is unique. I ve never smelled anywhere else similar vanilla aroma. It was good for trying it out, but that’s all.

It s pure rose smell. Maybe too simple. I didn’t feel other nuances in it. If you re obsest with roses, than this is for you.

This scene is rather light on my skin. On initial contact, I get a nice rush of pear blasting me that transforms into a beautiful red rose. think of tea rose, but much much lighter. i dont pick up much of the jasmine or gardenia in this, but if i smell hard enough, i can pick of the vanilla

This brought to mind a gummy bear rose. It starts off very sweet, yet more rose then fruit. The drydown is a soft, still sweet but no longer candy, bouquet of roses. This is young and innocent, fresh roses and sunshine. The longevity is amazing, 10+ hours and I can still smell traces of it on my wrist. The sillage is good, a couple feet for the first few hours. Not a loud fragrance but present. In my 40’s, this is a bit too young for me. Still, it’s a pretty, happy scent. Juliet before the tragedy.

This smells exactly like it’s name. A dozen roses. Red Roses being twirled around in a brook or the water somewhere. It’s a nice fragrance but it’s my least favorite of the line and probably the only one I don’t want to purchase :/. I’d still say this is a really nice rose fragrance. Usually when I smell a fragrance inspired by Roses it has that dirty, old rose smell to it but this smells like fresh, beautiful roses. I have a sample of it that I haven’t tested yet but on the card it had that fresh rose smell
